Amos Decker, the memory man, 22-year-old and NFL rookie was hit so hard on the field that he died twice, and it ended his football career. The injury induced hypothermia and synesthesia and for the rest of his life he becomes a different person and will forget nothing. After some help at a special rehabilitation institute for those like him he becomes a cop and then a detective.

Years later his wife, daughter and brother in law are brutally murdered in his home. He can’t continue as a cop and becomes private investigator. He has hit bottom, grossly overweight and in his own way grief stricken.

Sebastian Leopold walks into the police station and confesses to the killing of his family. While he is being held in jail a mass shooting takes place at a local high school and Decker I pulled back to working with his old partner and the police department to solve the killings A surprising link that connects the school killings with those of his family open up the plot with twists and turns leaving questions that are only answered at the very end.

A well-done story, the first in a series for the Amos Decker character

I just finished reading this amazing book for our book club, and I can't wait to discuss it with everyone! The storyline was so captivating that I couldn't put it down. The characters felt incredibly real, and the twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat. I highly recommend it for our next book club pick.

This is the book that got me hooked on David Baldacci! I have finished the Memory Man series and am currently reading the fifth Will Robie book. All have been outstanding. Now I understand why patrons at the library where I worked insisted that every new David Baldacci book be purchased.

Except for the constant references to height and weight I thought the book was really good reading. Different mystery; surprise ending.

Our book club really enjoyed the book. We have read several Baldacci books and this was a favorite. Characters are well written and suspenseful. The head injury and the results are very interesting. All agree that this would be a truly hard thing to live with. Most definitely keeps you guessing to the end!
