The Substitute Fiancee

Rate this book
Agreeing to pose as her glamorous twin sister while the bride-to-be "found herself" one week before her wedding, Jessie Taggert wasn't prepared for all the strings that came attached to this innocent ruse. From the final dress fitting, to the office party, to the rehearsal dinner -- oh, and that weak-in-the-knees feeling she kept getting around her future brother-in-law...

He was about to marry the woman of his dreams -- or so he once thought. But spending time with gentle yet passionate Jessie opened Mac McKenna's eyes to a marriage that was less business arrangement and more love of a lifetime. Would the top-notch lawyer adhere to his well-thought-out plans...or follow his wayward heart?

This book is about two twin sisters named Jenna and Jessie. So far, the story is about Jessie, the younger sister, helping Jenna to substitute her wedding preparation. Jessie was annoyed but she had to help her lovely sister, Jenna. Unfortunately, Jessie loves kids but both Jenna and Mac does not. So when Jessie and Mac went to a donation service event. Mac noticed how close Jessie was to kids, which was unusual for Jenna. Jenna does not like kids and does not want any.

Continuing from yesterday, Mac and Jessie(substituting)had a fight because Mac was confused why Jenna was so close to kids at the donation service event. But Jessie, Mac thought Jenna was a Market Genius since making the kids happy helps her own career.
Jessie was extremely worried about Jenna because Jenna did not give any calls or etcetera. Jessie could not take it anymore and Mac realize the woman next to him was no Jenna. Jessie then told Mac that Jenna has to leave town because she was stress out about the wedding. Jessie did not understand why her sister would not fall for a man like Mac. Mac is so perfect, he has the looks and the intelligence any woman wanted. Hanging out with each other, Mac and Jessie does start to have feelings for each other.

When Mac and Jessie starts helping out the garden, their feelings lushed out! They kissed each other after a round of dirt fight. Unfortunately for the two, they need to split up again. Jenna has came back to town and decided that she wanted to marry Mac again. Mac then spoke up and told Jenna that he wants to call the wedding off. To me, I think that Jenna is very selfish because even though her sister did so much for her; she would not forgive her for stealing Mac. Right after the wedding cancel, Jessie did not want to hurt her family because of Mac so they both did not get together. But the chemistry just pulls them back together, nothing can make them forget about each other. At the end, Mac and Jessie decided to be together and everyone was happy for them. As for Jenna, she forgave Jessie because she remembered how Jessie has always give in when she wanted something.

Tropes: Twin Swap, Forced Proximity

I came to this book for twin shenanigans, and found a book that was more sweet than chaotic, but still enjoyable.

When Jenna Taggert plays hookie a week before her wedding, she asks her soft-hearted, quieter twin Jessie Taggert to pretend to be her. Jessie goes along with it, even though she finds it torturous that her soon to be brother in law, Mac McKenna, is not only hot, but also kind of a sweetheart. He gets let in on the ruse pretty quickly, and is shocked to find that he might prefer Jessie over Janna.

Both Jessie and Mac were affable characters. He's got hangups around love and children due to past trauma, but those hesitations don't keep him from being pretty nice to Jessie. Jessie, meanwhile, feels like the underachiever of her family, a teacher and not a hotshot lawyer like her sister. She blossoms with Mac believing in her and not dismissing her goals.

There was absolutely some mess from the twin swap, but not as much as I would have preferred. Instead, this is just a sweet book with two nice people falling in love with the mother of all ticking clocks.

I wish that Russell had written Jenna's book, because I do vibe with an antagonist redemption arc.

This is a super cute, clean, sweet romance. I used to love this book back in high school when it first came out, and I reread it now for nostalgia. But I still found it adorable. Unlike a lot of Harlequin and Silhouette romances, this one doesn't feel weirdly old fashioned or have the women written as fainting flowers.

Not bad, I actually kind of liked the story and characters. Not my favorite, but not the worst one either.

I Really Enjoyed Reading This Book

I liked Mac's mom. I didn't like the his mom wasn't at the revelation at the end. She should have been there.
