Audrey Wood studied art and drama at the Arkansas Art Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. She has owned an operated a book and import store, taught chldren's drama and art, and traveled throughout Mexico and Guatemala studying Indian folk art. She now lives in Hawaii with her talented family (husband Don and son Bruce, who have both collaborated with Audrey by illustrating some of her books).
Superb! DELIGHTFUL! A beautiful anytime story for all, but especially wonderful for bedtime. x) Amazing illustrations! Mystic and magic and imagination like real! This husband & wife team have done it again! They never cease to amaze me with their talents. ENJOY! :D
One of the first things we noticed was that there are no illustrations on the end pages (my daughter is keen on them!) However, the book was beautiful enough that she now forgives them.
Though this book is an older picture book, both in publication date (1980) and intended audience (probably k-2) we had a lot of fun looking at the illustrations and reading the story together. The story line is a bit of nonsense, but very well written and beautifully dreamlike. I definitely suggest this to anyone with children that are old enough to appreciate and enjoy a good story and good illustrations, and to kids who are musical or don't sleep easily.
Moonflute is a story about a young girl named Firen and how she struggles to sleep during a full moon that shines brightly in her window. Accusing the moon of stealing her sleep, she goes out to chase the moon down to get her sleep back. In the process she gets the moonflute which helps her on the way to getting her sleep back. A very original story that comes across as part myth, party fairly tale. Nicely written and beautifully illustrated, this is a book of magic and wonder.
This book is both beautifully illustrated as well as magical. It puts an innocent and curious protagonist in an array of settings in the tangible world, accompanied only by her magical flute. Not any pressing lessons were learned from this book but it was a joy to read.
