The man Camilla now knew to be the Honourable Ross McKeown, the man she had taken for a shepherd, seemed to appreciate the joke more than she did.
From the moment they met, sparks flew between them. Camilla thought he was the most contemptible, ill-mannered man she'd ever4 met. Still she had come to Castle Crannach to photograph the Celtic jewels there and was determined to remain professional despite his provocation.
Only she certainly hadn't expected to find amoung the Scottish Highlands something far more preciaou than jewels.
A trip that started on the wrong foot; Camilla couldn't be more humiliated - nor frustrated. She was late - in the wrong - and lost her temper.
She almost took out a flock of sheep - too. This is how she first met Ross Mckeown - only she didn't know it was him.
She was late - flustered - and to top it off - she almost ran over a - flock of sheep. Flock not "Herd" - as Ross Mckeown pointed out to her one fine day.
She was part owner of Focus - the photography studio where she worked. She was assigned to cover a collection owned by Ross Mckeown.
Ross was an arrogant - rude client - and Camilla was not happy when she found out - she was working for - him. But - Camilla had even worse things about to happen.
Ross was falling for her, and he wasn't too subtle about - it. Camilla, on the other hand, wouldn't admit she was attracted to Ross.
Her main reason was that she was going to marrying - Eric - supposedly. Her other reason was, she couldn't stand Ross - but that was because she was in love with him.
But, did she really want to marry Eric - or was he just - safe. Ross showed Camilla adventure and risky behavior.
Eric was - safe - boring - never changing. He would never dream of being in the wild - nature - forest. He was a city - guy.
That wasn't a bad thing - but it made Camilla hate Ross even more because she found herself wishing that she had someone like Ross.
She didn't really want to be with Eric. She was - settling - something that Ross would not - do. He was even bold enough to tell her that - it made her stew even more. How dare - Ross!
Ross was falling in love with Camilla - but she didn't know that. In turn - Camilla - was falling in love with Ross - but she wouldn't admit it to him.
They even went on an overnight trip together that was work-related. Camilla knew it was a fatal mistake on her part, but she didn't know how bad it would truly hurt her.
Ross didn't lose. He wasn't a man that got the short-end-of-the-stick. One way or the other - he would have Camilla.
After their trip together, Ross won. He just had to wait for Camilla to follow suit. She became distant and cold toward him after they returned from their trip - together.
He did the same to her, but only because they both had feelings for each other. Eric - Camilla's - Boyfriend didn't miss a thing, and he knew in the end that Camilla wanted to be with Ross.
Eric told her so. Did Camilla concede and go back the Ross?
She did, and Ross couldn't have been happier. He finally won and had his one true love. Camilla gave up her share of the company - Focus that she previously owned with Anni and Sue.
But, she still kept in touch with them - as friends. Eric married someone else, and he and Ross became friends. Everyone had their happily ever after - and Ross - Camilla had a son.
A light-hearted quick read. It's set in Scotland though its image is a bit outdated. Has some cliches, but the author's breezy tone avoids making them seem too belabored. The characters aren't that memorable.
