Well that story chewed me up and spat me out the other side a complete emotional mess.

I love the way Elle McKenzie writes. Her style, and the way she plays with words, is so rewarding, although this time it was also emotionally brutal. With her words came a beautiful story but one that, from the outset, was hard to digest as we get to meet Saffy as she’s writing a goodbye letter to her husband and the only man she has ever loved.

I really enjoyed the way the story meandered its way through the paragraphs of Saffy’s "Dear Darling" letter. With each line, came a flash back to the memories that are cemented in her heart. From Saffy’s first meeting of Eli at University, right through to the birth of their children and more other painful memories, we ride the emotional roller coaster that is their life.

The meaning of the letter is clear right from the beginning but the reasons behind it are not revealed until the end of the book. It's hard to believe that Saffy would ever leave Eli and their children especially as you relive the tragedies and hurdles they have faced together over the years that they have been in love with one another.

This story is written by a British author, it is set in Britain and it is written in British English, which I personally enjoyed, especially the local references. Whilst I enjoyed the story, immensely, I did find it an uncomfortable read at times with painful references and facets to turn your stomach. It portrayed a number of difficult subjects all of which didn't go into graphic detail, which I was pleased about.

So, all in all, this was a wonderfully written and thought out story that packs an emotional punch and will leave you feeling drained but with a smile on your face at the same time.

I can honestly say I don't think I can fault this book, the writing was perfection, and the beautiful story flowed well - so well that I couldn't stop reading it until it was finished. This is the third book from Elle McKenzie, and each time she writes it just's gets better and better.
This is a love story between Elias and Saffy, the book starts by her writing a letter to Elias to tell him she is leaving him and their children. Instantly your interest is piqued because your dying to know why she is leaving this life they share and their beautiful children, you yearn to know the reason why. Your pulled into this delightful story and I was immersed with total fascination into the lives they lead and why she had come to this decision. It is obvious she is totally in love with her husband and children but you will have to read this amazing book to find out for yourselves.
Be warned, you will be taken on a roller coaster ride of emotions - love, passion, hope, despair, sadness, hate - BUT the reward is great !!
The characters were well developed and I loved Elias so much, he made mistakes, but don't we all. Great secondary characters too enhance this book even more.
I loved how Elle combined the letter that Saffy was writing with periods of her going back to the past to give us an insight of how herself and Elias met and the road they had taken to get where she was today -writing that all important letter.
A really enjoyable beautiful book that needs to be read and experienced. I can't wait to read more from this author who delights and suprises me with each new book she writes.

Hmm....Well........ I'm absolutely flummoxed as to how i'm meant to review this book.
How do you review a story which is so beautifully written that the emotion on the pages jumps off them and pulls at your heart ??
How do you review a book that gives you not just an amazing love story but also does it whilst dealing with tragedies and heartbreaking situations too ?
How do you review a story that has such an important message in it ??
This, for me, is one of those stories that i don't feel i can convey properly in words just how amazing it is !!
When i finished this i felt as though i'd watched a friends life play out before my eyes, with me watching their every move and thought in the background. That is how well written this story was. The characters will definitely capture your heart and as i say the way Elle has written this will definitely have you feeling so many different emotions you will be both angry but heartbroken at the same time.
This is a definite MUST READ !!
Absolutely AMAZING !!!!

I was sent an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This story definitely had all the feels and it certainly didn't end how I expected it too which is a good thing I might add.

Saffron is writing a letter to her husband, she's leaving him and her children. From what she's writing it sounds like she still truly loves this man so the reason for her leaving must be a big one, an affair perhaps?

"Every smear of punctuation becomes a joy shared by lovers who were always meant to be. Every heartache drowns in the blank space, which tells a far greater story than her pen ever could."

As Saffron writes her letter we delve into her past. How she comes to meet Eli all those years ago and how she has ended up where she is right now, twenty years later penning this letter.

"Our lives aren't written in the stars, we make our own future. We may never touch those stars but if we follow them they'll lead us to our own destinies"

It really is a beautifully written story, some of the paragraphs read like poetry, flowing so simply but of course it is one that comes with a few ups and downs, but then whose life doesn't come with a bit of baggage?

I think I connected more with this one because the places she mentions like Maidstone, Kent are ones that I know well.

There is so much emotion that comes with every word that is to be read and each turn of the page reveals just that bit more detail, allowing you to really connect with the characters, not only the protagonist but the secondary characters too.

Like any good book there is a twist which I won't spoil for you but I will say it was not what I guessed it to be when I'd begun with the prologue.

"how quickly life can turn around in an instant"

Dear Darling is definitely heartfelt and is certainly for all you romantics out there to read!

Where do I start I love Elle’s writing and this book draws you in from the first page, it is a beautiful love story,

Every smear of punctuation becomes a joy shared by lovers who were always meant to be. Every heartache drowns in the blank space, which tells a far greater story than her pen ever could.

We start with Saff writing a letter she is leaving her Husband and kids,

As she starts to write the letter we get her memories from when she first met Elias till present day she has had a great life there was a couple of bumpy bits where you thought they wouldn’t make it but….

They did and all the while I was guessing as to why would she leave her Husband and kids, I couldn’t figure it out... then Bam we find out and it broke my heart,

They are soul m8's I didn't want Saff to leave.

I loved the connection they have Eli really does love her…

Loved the secondary Characters they are great….

Eli what a sweetheart yes he made Mistakes and he regretted them.

He had a horrible Childhood Till his Brother took him from his mother and Father His father was a Horrible man ….

Such a great read Heartbreaking but great... I can’t wait for Elle Next book really do love her writing.

I was provided with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Dear Darling by Elle McKenzie is a heart wrenching look into the previous experiences a couple has gone through in their relationship and present day at the same time. The way Elle does this is through a unique letter from Saffron Vale (Saffy) to her Elias (her husband, Eli) and kids. The story is so beautifully written it flows and captures the reader right off.

Have Kleenex ready, you may need periodically for various emotional jolts. The reader will keep wondering why the main female character is saying goodbye after everything that the couple went through. Don’t worry you will find the answer before the story end. There are some surprises in store for you while experiencing this fantastic love story.

The way Elle McKenzie writes makes you feel the emotions of the characters as if they are your own. I am rating Dear Darling by Elle McKenzie 4.7 stars! I would happily read it again and again along with recommend to any book friends! Exquisitely done Elle McKenzie!

Where do I start. I'm at a loss as to how to put my review in to words in all honesty.

The book starts with the prologue telling us that Saffy is writing a letter to her family and that she is struggling in how to put in to words the fact that she is leaving them.

The book goes on by not only providing us with snippets of the present but by giving us Saffy's memories, both good and bad. Saffy loves her family and doesn't want to leave but can't find any other way out either.

Elias, he adores Saffy and the children, with everything he is and would do anything for her. He makes mistakes but doesn't everyone. He isn't perfect and that's one thing that made me fall in love with Elias.

I'd love to go into more detail but I can't say what I want to without spoilers. Just know that it's a tough ride for Saffy and Elias but it's well worth making the heartbreaking journey with them.

Wow, where do I start!!! This book absolutely blew me away.
At the beginning we have Saffy writing a letter to her husband Eli and children stating that she is leaving them. I am not going into details, as I personally detest spoilers. You really need to read this for yourself to find out what the reasoning behind the letter.
Elle writes an absolutely beautiful love story, and at times I felt that her writing was like poetry in motion. This book overflowing with emotion, such as heartbreak, passion, desperation, and love! The secondary characters are a great compliment to the story.
Elle has her readers enthralled throughout. I highly recommend her work, and I am so looking forward to reading more from her in the future. In my opinion this read is worth so much more than the 5 star rating.

Dear Darling by Elle McKenzie

A rollercoaster ride of emotions that makes you keep turning the pages I couldn’t turn the pages quick enough with this one.

A beautifully written story that tells the beginning of a soul mate kind of love that can withstand just about anything life throws at it from joy, pain, tragedy to the ultimate heart breaking situation. I truly loved this book and would definitely recommend it, I shed a tear or two and I just love a book that can pull at every emotion possible.

Wow! This is Elle's third book and for me her best book so far. Don't get me wrong the other two were also five star reads but this one you can tell how much Elle has progressed with the way she writes. I don't want to sound patronising as I could never write a book; I feel Elle McKenzie has come into a league of her own!
This is an emotional roller-coaster of a story about Saffron (Saffy) and Elias's life/relationship together, the ups and downs, the good and the bad, the happy and sad times and I felt them all!
Dear Darling is a letter that Saffy is writing to her husband Elias but whilst writing this heart breaking letter she reminisces about all these times and you feel like you're on that journey with her. I had a feeling what the letter was about and my heart ached instantly!
There was a time when I could have punched Elias, I called him everything from a pig to a dog, I'm not sure I'd be so forgiving as to see faults on both sides, but Saffy did and it was something that they got through together. This felt like a real life story, and because of this it had me sucked in all the more, I could have been reading about someone I knew.
As Saffy is recollecting you can feel the happiness, sadness and anger for all sorts of reasons, and I love a book that makes you feel all these things with the characters! I completely understand why she wrote this letter and to a certain extent understand why she wanted to save her family from heartache, but couldn't help feeling she was a bit selfish in doing it this way!
I definitely recommend this and urge you to one click to join Saffy and Elias on their journey!
5 Emotional Stars!!

WOW this book gets you in the first couple of pages and keeps you glued to it, to the end.

The love that Elias and Saffron have is what everyone could wish for.

They meet at University and it was love at first sight.

They have been through there up and down like all marriages, but something happens to Saffron and she thinks the best thing to do is leave her husband and 2 children so they don’t see her suffer.

She starts writing a letter to her husband and start reminiscing about their time together and what happens through there 14 year together. She also tells him to take care of the kids and himself.

But she never gets to give them the letter.

Loved the book, when you start you just can’t stop reading it.

I recommend everyone to read this book, you will laugh and you will cry, well I did.

Not what I was expecting at all! This is a story about REAL love, not the fantasy sparks, and googly eyes, and HEA. Thats not to say this book doesnt have a great ending. Just NOT your gooshy story.
This book is written in British English, which personally I often like, but I know some can be bothered by it.
Saffron (Saffy) and Elias' story is some what typical if not in detail, in the big picture. After so many years together are things fizzling out? Or is there still enough of a spark to keep things going. All it takes is a letter the make Saffy look back over their lives. All the big and little things theyve all lived through together. As she writes her "Dear John" letter she is reminded of everything over the last 14 years. The good and the bad. This is definitely an emotional ride.

A beautifully written, raw, emotional love story! Saff is writing a letter to her husband and kids letting them know she's leaving them. That, in and of itself is a huge deal, especially as she writes the letter, she starts to reminisce, and their life together was pretty damn loving. So why? Sometimes we make decisions that we think are the right ones because we want to spare our loved ones from added anguish and pain. Is it wrong?
The reason she wrote the letter is nothing I expected, but I totally understood her reason. This made made a strong heartfelt story and another great read from Elle Mckenzie!

Make sure you have tissues ready because you will sob your heart out!

Dear Darling is a beautifully heartbreaking story that is so real in day to day life and a lot of women can relate to.

Saffron has decided to leave her husband and while writing him a letter, she takes you back on her relationship with her husband and the ups and downs of the life they have had together. It all comes together at the end of the story and you find out her reasons for having to leave. This book will open up so many emotions in you, you may struggle to read because of your tears.

This is an amazingly written story and one I believe everyone should read.

Dear Darling is the first book I have read by this author and now I'm kicking myself that I haven't read her before. I loved the authors writing style and found my self not wanting to put the book down . I went through a whole load of different emotions while reading this book but loved how sensitively parts were written but still giving full impact of the story. For me this is a brilliant five star read.

I read this in one sitting because I just had to keep reading to reveal Saffron's reasons for leaving her husband, Elias, & their children. I liked the characters & was pulled into their lives from the start. I liked that the author didn't reveal Saffron's reasons for her "Dear Darling" letter until the end, she kept us guessing until the last few chapters & I loved the ending too. Lovely story, well written with a few ups & downs & some suspense along the way.

**SPOILER FREE**

Beautifully written with a smooth flow. Was surprised that I would fall in love with this book as I have since I don't read a whole lot of books in this area. But this book will captivate you right from page one. I can't say any more without doing spoiler... and spoiler, I don't do. But I can say that I would strong recommend this book!

Hmm freebee via Facebook and I am in a quandary with this one. Yes I enjoyed it BUT....the book is told in reverse as Saffy writes a goodbye letter to the man and family she loves for their own good!!!!
It's not until the final couple of chapters, when you have the "light bulb moment" and finally understand the decision she is making and why ...my first thought ...."wow, just how cold and selfish can you be"

I liked Eli, Aaron and Cam but Saffy she just got on my nerves (every single last one) on one hand she writes and reminisces about the ups and downs of a 20 year marriage wher she really had everything she could need or want but still she blundered through life oblivious and seemed to withhold a part of herself.

I have two other Elle McKenzie books to read so I am off to try those.

heartbreakingly beautiful love

A journey of insta love turned soul mate, love and life and all the ups and downs inbetween.
While I didn’t love this story and I struggled to feel connected to the characters I thought the story itself had great ideas . I’m
Thinking maybe my lack of connected is more to do with myself then the story .
