Audrey Wood studied art and drama at the Arkansas Art Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. She has owned an operated a book and import store, taught chldren's drama and art, and traveled throughout Mexico and Guatemala studying Indian folk art. She now lives in Hawaii with her talented family (husband Don and son Bruce, who have both collaborated with Audrey by illustrating some of her books).
This comic-strip-style book allows children to practice their colours and describe pictures in the books, since there are many pictures of Balloonia that do not have words on them. It's a very comical book that I'm sure any child will appreciate. It's also a great way to start off an activity. For example, a great way to end the school year would be to allow children to write their name and date on a balloon, go out into the playground and let go of the string. It will be a fun way to bid goodbye to this school year and enter the next! This book got me very excited to get into the classroom- as you can tell :)
This book was one of Mom’s favorites as a kid but it sure was a lot weirder than she remembered and the illustrations are a bit weird too, except for Balloonia which is rad. Not sure about the message of releasing balloons into the atmosphere to choke fish and so on. Still cool though.
This book was great, although apparently my oldest little brother liked it mare than I. A tale of a bratty kid who doesn't want to let go of an experience, and ends up realizing that you've got to let things leave in their time.
The concept for this book was great but the illustrations are bad and the main character is horrid. She's very bratty and remains so even at the end. I usually love Audrey Wood but this one wasn't great.
a simple, entertaining look at where balloon's actually go when they fly up into the sky. I would say this is a great story to give the little one's who freak out when they lose a balloon to the wind!
This is my favorite book as a child growing up. I always thought about it before I went to bed at night and was always jealous of the balloons going to Balloonia! The pictures made it look like such a fun time.
