Hybrid #5

Silkash

Rate this book
The tough, good-time girl persona Silk had developed to protect herself from the people who had tried and often succeeded to make her life unpleasant was serving her fairly well on the tropical paradise Island of Teora. A warm, comfortable place to sleep and people to flirt with and entertain was her life’s ambition, the occasional lie or thirty to achieve that wasn’t a problem.

The web of lies she had hidden behind for months starts to unravel as the important people, the ones that mattered in the universe left her without even bothering to say goodbye. Left at the mercy of the handsome bar owner Rustek, who is and has, everything she has ever wanted, makes hiding her identity even more important.

The girl who was once unwanted by the universe finds herself top of the wanted list of two very different men. Rustek, the green-eyed bar owner who risked his life and murdered to save her worthless life and the bereaved, blackmailing father of her abuser.

Both believe that she is the upstanding, twenty-something, daughter of a businessman on her frozen home world of Berellia and that the baby she is carrying is their relative. Keeping her secret will ensure Rustek’s and Chesara’s safety, but it will also cost her the child growing inside her, and the man she loves.

Contains graphic M/F scenes. It is intended for a mature audience only.

This book contains only humans. For the continuing story of Panaya’s hybrid children, move to Hybrid 6: Gladiatrix.

Word count: 55,000 plus 10% excerpt from Hybrid 6: Gladiatrix

A bit of a detour from the main series to follow a couple of the new characters we met in the last book, still great though!

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

(Spoilers for books 3&4)

First lets kick off this review with me saying this is now my favorite book of the series, I will explain my reasons in a little bit. (This review might be a little more personal)

We get to meet the lovely red-head Silk in the third book (Flight). Upon meeting her we learn that she has some health issues. Issues that Chesara was able to heal and make her healthy on top of kidnapping (not really kidnapping, but they take her with them) her in that book. Then we see the character again in the fourth book (Fight), in that book she is kidnapped by a nasty man (not even worth mentioning his name~ Ew). Anyways after Chesara finds herself healing Silk again and saving her life again, Silk offers up a Thank You orgy with the gang (Tenset, Conner, Dorin, Chesara, and Rustek).

Now that I have caught you up on what is going on with Silk, I can start talking about her in this book. (Sorry had to put those spoilers in). In this book we get to see more of her past and learn more about the planet she came from. I am happy to say that we get to read this character grow. She was already a strong character when we first read about her, but in this book we get a peek at more of her back bone and the things that she went through. So to me that is a big thing, to read a book about a character that has been to hell and back, yet she is still standing on her own to feet. To me that speaks volumes on how amazing this character truly is.

We meet Rustek in the third book as well, he is the adoptive brother to Dorin. What we mainly learn about him is how the two survived the attack and him growing up. So it was fun to read about him from an early age to an adult who is madly in love with Silk and would do anything for her. He grows as a character as well in this book, he learns a lot about our Silk, but doesn’t bat an eye at it. It doesn’t change the way he feel about her. I can truly say that this character is good for Silk and he has a heart of gold.

(Slight Spoilers in the next paragraph, skip if you do not wish to know)

Do we want to talk about how this book became the favorite in the series. If you really want to know I will explain, first, I will start off saying that I avoid reading any books with children, pregnancy, or motherhood. Main reason for that is because I want to be a mother my self (one day). So when I read things like that I get all giddy and have a slight baby fever. I like to consider myself a tough cookie, but if you talk about babies you pull my heart-strings. Emma Jaye was playing my heart like a fiddle, when she hit me with that special brick bat (spoiler not telling). I was jumping in my chair with excitement (seriously, reading books with babies will be the death of me).

Moving on from that, another reason I have liked this series so much is the POVS!!!! Yes, yes I am picky when it comes to that topic. But just like the books before this one, Emma does a great job with the multiple povs. She has a great flow to the story. I wasn’t bother or agitate about it at all.

The surprising bit is this book HAS NO ALIENS, That right I said it no aliens. Even though this book is chalk full of humans (in the middle of an alien series) it is still great! You guys know I how much I love all things non-human. Going into the book I was very iffy about it because of the humans. But I am so GLAD that I read it, I truly loved it and the book. Looking at the word counter this post is almost at 1k words and my hunny is waiting on me to join him to sleep.

Ending on that note, I loved this book. Dang Emma has my heart resting in her delicate hands. Don’t crush it to hard darling or I’ll be upset. This book is one that could stand alone on its own two feet if it had a brief summary prologue.

I was excited to start this story after cat clan 2. Then I was badly disappointed.

After being recently abused by a rapist, the hero forces seduction on the heroine. Not a hero I want to root for. The heroine is hurting, but gives the go ahead? Disaster! Of course he feels bad and struggles with his behavior afterward. The heroine's likability crashed for me after she decides to seduce him back while tricking his mother. Sexuality doesn't equal maturity.

More drama and abuse ensues; I prefer my sci-fi to be less soapy and seedy. The best part about this is the HEA.

The heroine's nickname isn't capitalized more than once. Some sentences don't make sense as wrong words are used but the reader can get the idea.

In this book The main characters change to Silk and Rustek. Silk was introduced in book 3; Rustek in 4th book.
Events from book 3 were hard for Silk and There is no way I can imagine what she felt, but as we get to know Her origin it gets easier to understand aby she is who she is. Well written character That will engage you to herself.
Rustek is a Guy That for sure was know for his morals (not at First, but later), and I came to Like him very much.
Great story, That Would get 5 stars id There were Chesara, Connor & Tenset

While this installment is a bit different from the rest of the series; being an all human cast, the story of Silkash needed to be told and I was so happy to read it!
This character piqued my interest earlier in the series. Silk is definitely a complex character that has had it pretty rough, but through the tough-girl façade, and the many lies she’s told and lived, her heart is in the right place.

I enjoyed this book. Following secondary characters from the first few books in their own featured story does wonders for my mental picture of this world that Emma Jaye has so carefully painted.

This is the fifth book in a series of 8 that I have been reading, but it is a slight departure from the previous 4. This is a stand alone book, following up on the story of Silk and Rustek, and their growing relationship. As usual, Silk manages to get herself into some kind of trouble, and Rustek is there to bail her out. In this story, Silk isn't who she appears to be. She has been very deceptive. On a visit to Silk's home world, Rustek finds out the truth about her.

This story has a "Who's the father?" plot about it when it is found that Silk is pregnant, and it leaves you guessing right up to the end. Again, it was a page turner, and again, it was a well conceived plot, with a witty dialogue.

This story ties up the Silk/Rustek story quite nicely, leaving me satisfied with the outcome. As with the other books in the Hybrid series there was a certain degree of sex, but more along the lines of BDSM.

I highly recommend this book, and as with the others, if you are into Sexy Sci-fi, you'll love this. series.

Although part of the hybrid series, the main characters of the series, Chesara, Connor, and Tenset only appear by reference. This offshoot is Silkash story, the passenger they pick up in Hybrid 4. A traditional romance in that it features a monogamous, heterosexual couple, it has the same dynamism, suspense, and excitement of the rest of the series. I loved Silkash as secondary character and she rocks as the heroine of her own story.

I just love this girl!! Silkash...or is it Silkara, Silkette, etc. She is a hoot!! Loved the group scene (yea I know it was in the previous book)...had no idea how that was going to go, but you wrote it well. Loved the fact that you called his mom "Mother" almost all the way through. You introduced her name at the perfect time.
