Acts of Honor #3

An Act of Obsession

Rate this book
She’s beautiful yet scarred beyond repair.

He’s powerful and lethal, in and out of the ring.

One act of kindness brought Sophie Parish far more danger than she could have ever imagined. Now she’s on the run, leaving behind her family and the only dream she’s ever had.

Retired EFC fighter Kolan Slade’s life has been one endless battle after another. He has a dark past with an even darker desire—the only one he’s ever known.

Until he meets Sophie.

Intrigued by her raw beauty and the secrets she’s trying to hide, Kolan craves to know who she is and what she’s running from.

Protecting her becomes his obsession and he’ll sacrifice it all to save her. But in the end her love will have him questioning himself and everything he thought he knew.

***

This is book three in the Acts Of Honor series, the spin-off series to Men Of Honor. Kolan and Sophie’s story is told in dual POV, has an HEA with no cliffhanger, and can be read as a standalone. However, I recommend reading prior books in both series, as characters play recurring roles throughout.

Warning: Due to mature subject matter, such as explicit sexual situations and coarse language, this story is not suitable for anyone under the age of 18.

K.C. Lynn is a small town girl living in Western Canada. She grew up in a family of four children—two sisters and a brother. Her mother was the lady who baked homemade goods for everyone on the street and her father was a respected man who worked in the RCMP. He’s since retired and now works for the criminal justice system. This being one of the things that inspires K.C. to write romantic suspense about the trials and triumphs of our heroes.

K.C. married her high school sweetheart and they started a big family of their own—two adorable girls and a set of handsome twin boys. They still reside in the same small town but K.C.’s heart has always longed for the south, where everyone says ‘y’all’ and eats biscuits and gravy for breakfast.

It was her love for romance books that gave K.C. the courage to sit down and write her own novel. It was then a beautiful world opened up and she found what she was meant to do…write.

When K.C.’s not spending time with her beautiful family she can be found in her writing cave, living in the fabulous minds of her characters and their stories.

3.75 STARS

You can never go wrong with K.C. Lynn. I don’t know how she does it but despite the formulaic nature of her books, she still keeps me glued to the pages and leaves me completely satisfied. Every freaking time.

Story. The author delivers another winning fallen fighter meets damaged girl story with a perfect mix of romance and suspense. The story is intense, emotional and off the charts HOT.

Hero. Beside being a fallen fighter (which is hot by default), a yummy possessive and loyal alpha with a touch of vulnerability and darkness to him.

Heroine. Despite being a damsel in distress, she’s actually not annoying (Thank god!). She’s strong and likable.

Writing. Great. It makes you feel all the emotions right alongside the characters.

I highly recommend it to all NA romance lovers!

5 NOT WHAT I WAS EXPECTING STARS

Right, so what can I say about this book?
IT WAS AWESOME!
Well I will start by something that surprised me the most, The music and dancing.
I am often found dancing and singing as part of my daily life. So when you have a book that put those two things together, well you have...
AN EPIC STORY GUARANTEED TO SATISFY ME

description

Songs included here are:

Uptown funk by Bruno Mars when Sophia show her moves.
Thinking out loud by Ed Sheeran when they dance together the first time.
Enter sandman by Metallica when Kolan enters the ring for a fight.
Crazy train by Ozzy Osborne when his opponent enters.
I touch myself by the Divinyls when she dances sexy for him.
Lose yourself by Eminem when Daniel escapes again and the hero is mad.
These are just the ones I remembered here. There may be more.

This story is about healing and trusting even when it's next to impossible to do so.
Sophie has been left to die by her longtime stalker Daniel, who decides that "if I can't have you no one will." She must run from her family, her life, her dreams, in order to protect her loved ones. She will not allow them to be a target. Therefore, she moves and changes her name to Lia.

The hero Kolan has been abused as a child and was only looking to control everything in his life including sex with his Dom behaviour in the BDSM club called Annihilation. He is a heavy weight champion and he was accustomed to calling the shots.
Btw we don't get any of his past sexual encounters here in this book at all.
He was not looking for "Lia-Sophie" when she came into his gym hoping to get some self defence courses in order to gain some control over her life. It was not long before this happens...

description

Now here are a few quotes from the book to give you a taste of the content here.
“So responsive,” he murmurs, pressing a kiss to my inner thigh. “The things I want to do to this body of yours. The pleasure I could give you with barely a touch…” The sentence is left unfinished; his head dipping lower as he spears my flesh with his hot tongue.

His strong hands move to my hips, pinning them in place as he sucks and licks, consuming every single preconceived notion of what I thought pleasure should be. I’d never known anything like this. Something so beautiful—dark and perfect.

“I’m glad you did. Otherwise, I would have never met you. I would have never got to see you dance. Never know what it was like to touch you. To taste you, Meeting you, Soph, was the best fucking thing to ever happen to me. I’m not sorry for any of it.”

Generally this book rocked but it did not have what I consider a "real epilogue." This is small detail here and we don't really get HEA more of a HFN ending. This is no doubt due to the fact that this is a series.
I totally let that detail go here because THIS BOOK WAS AWESOME!

Worth a read and maybe even a reread.

Safety: for those who care, it's totally SAFE. With no triggers and only one spanking. No condoms but hero always used them in the past and she was a virgin and he was a man whore so this may not be everyone.

Every time I think this author can't give me more beauty than the last she proves me wrong. I've wanted Kolan's story it seems like forever. He had this air of danger yet loneliness and that always calls to me. I was worried about his past with his "tastes" but this author wrote him and Sophie's story with absolute grace and respect. Nothing bothered me and I adored how he cherished her and worshiped her. This strong warrior fought so many battles against danger to her but also the scars inside and out. He showed her the true beauty she would always possess. K. C. Lynn really knows how to weave a tale that has you hungering for each page, anticipation flowing and building. Then the sweetest and most emotional yet explosive unions are created. This story had everything I come to love that is a part of her signature style. Great friendships, passionate lovers, true faithfulness and of course charming kids who make you laugh. Can't wait to see where she'll take us next.

This is a book I've had for a while and just kept putting off reading it. Now I'm wondering what in the hell i was thinking.

Kolan and Sophie were both a little damaged from past events in their lives. Sophie's been on the run for a long time on her own never making friends or forming any type of bonds. She goes to the same gym that Kolan works at to get self defense lessons. Kolan agrees to do private lessons because Sophie isn't comfortable in crowds. This begins a beautiful friendship. These two want each other from the beginning but build a relationship after they have a solid friendship.

Kolan's kindness, generosity and protectiveness make Sophie feel safer than she has in years. It was amazing to read how these two care for one another and have a soul deep respect for each other. Neither of them have ever felt this way.

There is an underlying suspense storyline that is intertwined throughout that comes to a satisfying conclusion. There's a nice epilogue that of course I wish was a little further into the future but this is definitely an HEA. There's no doubt that these two will go the distance. There's also a great cast of secondary characters, especially Benny. Loved that kid so much. He was hilarious. I definitely need to read more from this series.

4.25 satrs.I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. I thought both hero and heroine were great! They make a great couple . I loved the hero more than heroine though:)

Benny was hilarious love that kid!
Cute epilogue but not nearly enough for me. I want more:)

Safety:
hero was Into Bdsm at a club. He quit months before he meets heroine.
only a few slight mentions of it .
it did bother me at times and I did think about how he must of spanked and tied the sub's up before but heroine is special. I really truly felt it.
he only ever had sex that way. he never made love and never had sex outside that place I think. never brought anyone to his home. he always used condoms before h:) He really is amazing!
heroine is a virgin but not because she was saving herself she has been through a very terrible incident .
Some om drama and a tiny bit ow drama.
some violence and death.

K.C. Lynn like always never disappoint and just like all her other books this one grabs you from the very beginning and hold you hostage until the end and it takes you to this magnificent journey of hurt, secrets, pain but above all that there's healing, forgiveness and a whole lot of LOVE.

I know I said this before and I'll keep saying it because is the freaking truth K.C. Lynn's kids characters are the best they completely steal the show and Benny Santiago wasn't the exception I loved that little guy hope she pair him with one of the MOH kids in the future.

After I finished An Act of Salvation it just wasn't possible to not start this one right away. I needed to know more about Kolan and how he was going to move on from so many betrayals in his life. And the story that I read was beyond what I even imagined it would be.

Kolan and Sophie were wonderful characters that I loved reading about and getting to know everything there was to know about. Sophie really intrigued me with her past and I loved seeing her with Kolan and how he helped her open up some. They both had trust issues for obvious reasons but they didn't let that stop them from exploring the attraction they had, which was smexy as all get out.

Overall, I highly recommend this read. It can be read as a standalone with no problem but there will be many side characters that are going to make you want to go on a reading binge of K.C Lynn.

Plenty of reviews out there so I just want to say I loved it! This is my favorite type of troupe where there's a damsel in distress and the white knight rides in to save the day.

Kolan was such a great hero....that OTT possessive alpha that I love. He was a amazing brother and friend and so much more than what people made him out to be. But he was absolutely awesome with Sophie. He was everything she needed. Plus he was a dirty talker ;)

I loved little Benny. He was such a great kid and hilarious. I hope he gets a story! I was really glad the author didn't write him with two shitty parents and he at least had his mother who was good to him and took care of him. And I loved how Kolan stepped in to help out.

So far I have loved every single book written by this author, which includes this one !!

I think this one may be my favorite ...eventhough Cade's book was pretty awesome as well.

I really liked Kolan. He was hot, possessive, sweet and an amazing dirty talker ;) He is definitely one of my favorite characters in this series and the previous one.

 photo PrepareYourOvaries_zpslvpvs8ee.gif

The heroine wasn't a tough as nails chick, but she was sweet and she went through some really horrible shit. She never once annoyed me, something that doesn't happen often.

The steam was great, the storyline interesting and I had some great laughs. Which brings me to another character that was in this book.
I was gonna rate this one 4,5 stars, but I have to give half an extra star to Benny, who made me laugh out loud more than once. He was awesome !!

Let me start this review by telling you that if you have not read any K.C. Lynn’s book you are missing something huge here. Her stories not only give you all the feels while reading them but she also has the ability to create such awesome characters. Ones that reach out of the pages and pull you into their lives, and they stay with you long after you close the book.

I have been waiting for An Act of Obsession from the moment I met Kolan Slade. It was like love at first read? Yeah, something like that. You see, I have a thing with broken-broody-dark-male-heroes and Kolan ticks all the boxes. I can say without any doubt that he is my favorite K.C. Lynn’s hero so far.

Like with almost K.C. Lynn books, I read it in one sitting and couldn't get to sleep after I finished it. They are usually the type of books you just can’t put down. They always have a good balance of heat, romance, and danger. I loved every second of it

Kolan Slade hasn’t has an easy life. He has endured a lot of pain since he was a child. Protecting his sister, the only person to ever love him, is one of his purposes. Being a fighter is the other one, so after some people tried to destroy his career as a fighter, he decides to retire from the EFC and started teaching self-defense classes at the gym.

Sophie Parish is running for her life. Staying away from the ones she loves for fear of putting them at risk, is the only way to protect them. A twist of fate makes her end up in Sunset Bay where she meets Kolan, who became her self-defense instructor.

When these two meet, there is an instant connection. The sparks immediately fly. But trust is not something Sophie tossed around lightly. Can she trust Kolan enough to share her secrets? Can be the Dark Warrior able to protect the love of his life?

As previously mentioned, K.C. Lynn has a way to create the most amazing characters, and this time she gave us Benny. This boy, he stole my heart. I LOVE YOU Kolan but this book wouldn’t have been the same without Benny. I hope he gets his own book. *Please*

Packed with some angst and enough suspense it had my eyes glued to the kindle, An Act of Obsession is the story of two damaged souls coming together to mend the other. With a smoking-hot chemistry, Kolan and his dirty mouth has me literally on my knees the whole book. This couple right here, is hands down my favorite so far.

Thanks again for another great read, KC Lynn!

I flove this book! Kolan is definitely a good addition to my book boyfriend list. All that alpha male deliciousness makes me giddy. :) This is my first read by this author, by the way. A lot of my safety friends loved this. Hence, I gave this is a try.

Basically, the story is our heroine Sophie/Lia has a psychopath stalker. One act of kindness in high shool has her saddled with a deranged man. She ran away and changed her identity when her roommate and boyfriend in college were killed by said madman. She worked in a police station and the sheriff invited her to attend a class on how to defend herself and it is where she met the H Kolan Slade. Now, Kade is very alpha male with lickable abs. A retired heavyweight EFC fighter who is misunderstood by many. I f*cking love him *sigh*. I also love the suspense in this one. Kept me hooked from the start.

Leggetelo!! 🖤

2.75 stars.

This wasn’t half bad as I first thought it would be.

There was some things that bothered me.
1. Like hero calling OWs whores. This pissed me off!
2. Few mentionings of hero sex’s life, how he loved control and how he used to go to a sex club to get his kinks, how he tied women, how he could pleasure women for hours to no end, how one of the women there accused him of rape, that’s the main reason why he stopped going there. He called himself a dominant but compared to many dominants in books, this hero was pretty tamed. My fear was that he was going to whipped her, tied her and do some other things but nothing like this happened.
3. Virgin heroine.
4. The end, why does every heroine in CR has to go to the hero when he leaves her? Why does she has to beg him not to leave her?
5. Weak heroine, I understood why she was the way she was. I wish she would’ve been a bit more stronger specially when it comes to the H.

Things that I liked.
1. He was very protective of her.
2. Benny, that kid had me laughing of the stupid things he said.
3. No OW drama.
4. That’s all.

An Act of Obsession
KC Lynn

I gobble up Lynn's books! Seriously, they are usually the type of books I simply cannot put down. They always have a good balance of heat, romance, and danger. I have been looking forward to Sophie and Kolan's story and I wasn't disappointed.

Sophie has a crazy stalker. Like-a legit psychopath. You will get the backstory in pieces as you read and its crazy scary because its so believable. If you read the previous books in the series, you already know Kolan's back story (shitty parents, framed for rape). Sophie meets Kolan when she comes in for self defense lessons. Their relationship is a bit of a dance-Sophie is obviously skittish; Kolan has a need for control and previously spent a LOT of time in a BDSM club. So, they are attracted to each other but unsure. It was great to see Sophie slowly open up and trust people to help her. It was also great to see Kolan let his guard down a bit and let go of some of the anger that has been eating him up.

Every time I said "Oh, I will stop here for the night" I didn't. I couldn't stop. You know what will happen-its pretty obvious-but you don't know exactly HOW it will all go down so you are still engaged in wanting to know. Kolan kind of does something dumb at the end as well, which pissed me off and diminished my love of him a bit. Its resolved quickly, but I still wanted to choke him.

POV: Dual
Tears: a few when hearing Sophie's story
Trope: on the run
Triggers: Stalkers
Series/Standalone: Series (while you could read this as a stand alone, you won't really understand the dynamic of all the characters if you haven't read all the books)
Cliffhanger: no

An exciting read. Both H and h were great, although H did act as a jerk once, he regretted immediately and apologized. He didn't have ex show up or anything like that, a bonus.

h underwent was sad and horrible, fortunately she met H and many nice people here.

Wish there's an epilogue with babies. Ok, I got she just found her life back, she needed more time to build her future. But the epilogue could be several years later. A wishful thinking for me.

5.0+ "I.LOVE.THIS.BOOK.TO.PIECES"STARS!!!

“Some secrets, Kolan, are best left unknown.”“Not between us. The day will come when there will be no more secrets between us.”

What a great story from great a author!

Once again I am rendered speechless and don't have any idea where to start with my review. Seriously, this is usually what I went through every time I finished reading a book from K.C Lynn. If I'm not a blubbering mess or turned on tho the zenith, laughing out loud or swooning I am a combination of the four blended with a heart warming and gut wrenching feeling. Seriously, K.C Lynn's writing is OFF THE CHARTS!!!Roller coaster of emotion will be ASHAMED because she writes a good story where emotions are a jumbled mess but a beautiful jumbled mess leaving you a beautiful feeling, tears of joy and a smile in your face.

Kolan and Sophie's story is one I am really afraid to dig in. I do not know but I have just this gut feeling that K.C will be tackling another issues I have no inkling if I can take. However though, because I am a book whore of K.C Lynn's works through and through, I did not let this story pass! Why would I??? This is KC Lynn for fuck's sake and her stories is just written with attentiveness and great heart. And she did not disappoint with An Act of Obsession. Right from the start I was pulled right into the story turning the pages with enthusiasm but wanting it not to end. Since I met Kolan from the previous books, I am very eager to know his share of the story. Who wouldn't? This commanding of a man really just got me. His past and what he went through form they were kids up to the point in his career is just so much that I wanna know him more deeply. There is just something with him that made you feel so curious and will gravitate you. I was so glad though that he gets his own book and from what I have read, K.C Lynn gave him a life that feels so damn real and just so happy he met Sophie. Now this woman is another story, we haven't met her before but her history and issues were worth reading and worth my sleepless night. I will not go deeper though since the blurb will give you a hint and a background of why this then confident and full of life woman is in Charleston and how/why they met. How everything is stolen from her and how she get it back. All I can tell you is that I.LOVE.THIS.BOOK.TO.PIECES!!!

"No pain.
No Fear.
No Past.

...Nothing in this moment but US."

Kolan and Sophie's journey of love is something so beautiful. The suspense is great and I was on the edge wanting to know what will happen next. The emotions were all over and this is clearly shown the moment you started reading the book. Lines per lines is heavy and excellently written, one you cannot let your eyes blink or shut off afraid you'll miss a single word. The scenes as usual is fantastically described vividly you have no difficulty of imagining or dreaming everything. And of course, the main leads. Oh damn! The chemistry of these two is undeniable. Sure enough the author could write his ALPHA MEN so deliciously dangerous... HOT in bold capital letters but so damn sweet and worth swooning. The heroine is not far from it though, she has her own character one you will love so much that just blended so well. Plus with sex scenes that are scorching hot leaving your knickers wet. Damn! What could I ask more?

All in all, this is a great book one you don't want to miss. Another hit from K.C Lynn that will be forever etched in every readers mind and heart that if read over and over, there will be no dull moments. I enjoyed it so much and I highly recommend it.

I knew this book was goin to be good. Kolan hasn't had it easy so I was dying to see what woman was goin to break down his walls. Kolan is really closed off he has his reason for being that way. The only person who he lets in is his sister Katelyn. He is so protective of her she means so much to him. So if anyone even tried to hurt her then he would just lose it. The guy is big, scary and intimidating. But he is a fighter and the best there is. He has retired now after some horrible things have had. So now he was working to help kids learn to fight and help at the gym. It's not fighting but he enjoys it in a way. Kolan's life has changed a lot recently and he is learning to cope this is until a gorgeous girl comes into the gym wanting self defence lessons. There was something about her that had him wanting to protect her. He wasn't use to these feeling but he couldn't seem to get this sexy woman out of his head.

Sophie God where do I start. This girl is a brilliant character my heart went out to her from the very beginning of this book. She has really been through the worst time and she is at breaking point. She is living in fear so the time. All she wants is to be safe and finally live her life the way she wanted to. But when she comes face to face with a big sexy scary guy at the gym she was looking to do self defence lesson things changed. She hadnt been looking for a guy or anything like that until spending time with Kolan. She could see through him and see who he really is. There wasn't many people who could but she could and she finally she start feeling safe with him.

This story was just brilliant I really didn't think this series could get any better but it does with every book. I couldn't put this book down Kolan and Sophie had me hooked. I as on the edge of my seat from the start. I was dying to know what was goin to happen between them. Sophie and Kolan had bother had to deal with so much crap in there life. But together they were perfect Sophie was what Kolan needed and Sophie needed him just had much. I know I say this all the time but it's alway great to get more of the other characters in this series and the Men of Honor series. There just great character and they just get better and better. I would highly recommend this book. Everything about was great the story character the drama had me hooked. It was just brilliant I can't wait for the next book.

I loved this book, I have read many DNF, and some books I stopped so soon I didn't even mark them, some ok books and some that I was just glad to be done with. I'll be honest for awhile there I wasn't sure when I would find a book I liked and get into, and I spent more time than I want to admit trying to find a book to read. Then I saw this book. I haven't read this series but the title caught my eye and I decided to give it a try. What can I say I was hooked right away, and when I say right away I mean the first page.

On the run and afraid Lia only wants to survive and keep the people she loves safe. When her boss, the town sheriff tells her about a self defense class Lia is interested but knows she can never be in a class with tons of people. Stoping by the gym Lia hopes that they will offer private lessons. Seeing Kolan Lia is speechless, and Kolan feels the same way. Now meeting each other Lia finds herself opening up more and enjoying her time with Kolan. Kolan can't get Lia out of his mind and wants nothing more than to help her heal and be with her.

Even though she knows it's wrong Lia can't deny her feelings and loving the town she now lives in, and running becomes something she wants less and less. As Kolan and Lia's feeling grow Lia finally finds the strength to open up about her past and Kolan is shocked but more so vow's to keep her safe. Now that Kolan knows who Sophie really is she feels freer than she has in a long time but the threat is still very real. But Kolan will stop at nothing to protect the woman he loves.

This author does an amazing job pulling you into this book and getting your attention. Not only have many of my books laltey been just ok or not good at all but I have found myself skimming and I didn't at all with this book, not at all. The first chapter really sets the story to this book. From that first chapter I loved Lia/Sophie everything about her was great she went through a horrible ordeal and yet she was still strong, even though she was damaged. When Kolan first shows up in this book I knew I would like him and I did but not only like him I loved him. He has been though a lot but he's a fighter in and out of the ring but there is so much more than just that to him, he's caring and kind and those who he loves he loves with a fierceness.

When Sophie come into Kolan's life Kolan has had his fair share of knocks also and her trust in him floors him, and also shows him that people can love him. Kolan was such a great hero, he faced a lot but made a better life for him and his sister and when Sophie comes in his life and cares for him, it makes him love her more. The stars of this book of course are Kolan and Sophie and I loved them he really is a great stand out hero but this author does a great job creating more than just them. The story was great I had fun trying to guess what would happen next and the way she introduces the villain was not something I guessed which made it even better She also adds some really great charters in this book that aren't just filler but great additions making this book stick out even more.

I didn't want this book to end, really from beginning to end I loved this book. There wasn't anything I didn't like about this book. Would I have liked to see them way far in the future? Yes but I'm guessing that happened in future books with other characters. I loved the epilogue in this book it's so sweet and just cements how wonderful Kolan is and how in love he is. I haven't read any other book from this series and I had no problem following along, but I will say I will definitely be checking this author's other books out. I can't recommend this book enough.

A resounding 4.5 stars...I absolutely love this series...these characters steal my heart each and every time...the story of Sophie and Kade was no exception...heartbreaking and heartwarming this book allowed me to experience all the feels...a story of courage, strength, and healing...I fully immersed myself into this story and experienced all the action, suspense, and love...KC Lynn has a beautiful way of incorporating characters from her past books allowing the reader to revisit their stories and see how they continue to grow...I think my only complaint of this book is that I wanted to see a little more of the girls bonding with Sophie and giving her the love and support they are known for...however, in the end this was a great read and I look forward to the next installment in the series!

Very sweet read from this author. The sex was hot and I loved seeing all the old crew.

My main issue (not really an issue and it's probably just me because no one else has said anything) was the male character's name. I pronounced it in my head as a unfavorable body part. Maybe it has a different pronunciation but it was a little too close for me.

Also the chick giggled a lot. After 18 giggles don't happen that often.

Overall I really enjoyed this one.

There hasn't been a KC Lynn book that I haven't devoured. An Act of Obsession continues the streak of fabulous reads from her. Kolan Slade is Katelyn's brother. He is the heavy weight champion of the EFC world, but over the last year, his life has been hell. Not only was he falsely accused of rape but his sexual preferences that he fulfills at Club Annihilation are public knowledge. He's retired from fighting and just wants to live a quiet life. Hanging around, working at the Men of Honor Center with the rest of the guys suits his needs. He has more than enough money to keep him comfortable and besides, this town is where Katelyn lives.

"When she decided to open her salon here, I followed, because where she goes I go."

Sophie Parish's life is good. She has a nice place to live, a wonderful family, a great roommate and is dating a guy she really has feelings for-but all that changes in an instant. She comes home one night to find her boyfriend and her roommate in bed together. Dead. Coming after her is a man she knew years ago and defended from being bullied-Daniel. Apparently, when she helped him out he fixated on her and she became the object of his obsession. He brutally slashes her throat with every intention of killing her. She can barely hear sirens in the background as she is fading fast.

Little did I know, that one act of kindness would bring me a dangerous obsession.

When she wakes up in the hospital life as she knows it will never be the same. She is horribly disfigured from the attack. But the worst thing is Daniel's escape. He wasn't caught and she knows that she will not be safe, nor will her family. So she leaves all that she knows and loves. Sophie Parish is gone and is replaced by Lia Kay.

Sophie Parish, the girl who loved life and had a dream to dance forever. I'm now Lia Kay-scarred beyond repair and fearful everything.

Lia lands up in Sunset Bay and gets a job working for Cooper McKay the sheriff in town. Cooper knows something is off with her. No matter how hot it is outside, Lia wears a scarf around her neck. Her mannerisms throw off a vulnerable vibe and he knows something terrible happened to her. He suggests that she join the other girls in their circle for a self defense class. Lia stops by the gym herself to ask about private lessons. And that's how she meets Kolan. Instant chemistry but lots of walls between them. They spend a lot of time together, both at the gym and just hanging around. Kolan knows something serious happened to her but he is so damaged he knows he's not what she needs. Lia has heard all about Kolan's problems in the past year but she isn't afraid of him. But she knows that Daniel will eventually find her and that means she can't stay for long. The thought of her leaving makes Kolan crazy.

"You better not ever fucking leave without telling me." My heart kicks up at the way his jaw ticks with fury. "I mean it, Lia. Promise me."

Secrets have a nasty habit of coming out, especially When there's danger involved. Both Kolan and Lia have had to isolate themselves from everyone else because of the damage done to them by others. But can they open themselves up and take the risk that they could be hurt again? Kolan is one gorgeous alpha and there's no way he won't risk everything he has to keep Lia safe. But when he learns the truth and sees how physically scarred she is, and the danger she could bring to his life, will he still want her?

Sometimes the most selfish thing we can do is to stay with someone. Knowing that if they stay with you, they may be giving up the dreams they have always had, just to be with you. Can you let them go?

When the dust settles, will they each be able to fill in the cracks of their broken souls? Would being with each other mean they will have to give up their own dreams? Loved this latest installment of the Acts of Honor series!

I never intended to give her up. It was only nights ago that I was buried in her sweet body, confessing how I would never let anyone take her from me. Yet, here I stand. Alone.

I almost didn't finish this, I considered quitting at 50%, but I have had a lot of DNFs lately and didn't want to add another one, plus given all the high ratings I kept waiting for the book to get better. Spoiler alert: it never did.

The pacing felt slow, but most of all I didn't feel the connection between the main characters. It was very instalove-ish, which especially didn't make sense considering the heroine's past and bad experience with men. The reader is more told of the supposed development of their relationship, rather than shown, so it felt even weaker.

Another reason why I couldn't like the main character or be into the couple (and why I'm rating the book low) is the slut-shaming and misogyny. There are not many scenes with it, but those that are there were very uncomfortable to read:
- The very first chapter from the hero's POV talks about "gym whores". He concludes that the heroine is not one of them because "she’s not dressed like one and she’s too … pretty". Um, okay then.
- The hero, who used to be very active in a BDSM club (!), refers to women who partake in BDSM and enjoy pain as "pain whores". Now, I'm not the most knowledgeable person about BDSM and its clubs, but that seemed extremely hypocritical at least, if not unethical.
- The hero was apparently falsely accused of rape in the past. I hate this kind of plot in general, because false accusations of rape are relatively rare and victims of sexual abuse/assault are already not given enough belief/trust as it is, we don't need books perpetuating that, especially as a cheap part of characterization with no development whatsoever. What made this even worse here was the heroine connecting the accuser's dishonesty and false accusations with her looks: "She looks as fake as her bleached blonde hair and big boobs splashing out of her too tiny top."
- The hero gets hard at the sight of the blood after having sex with the (virgin) heroine for the first time and it makes him "never want to wash his fucking sheets again". WTF?

All in all, this was a rather bad read and I will definitely not read any other book of the series.

An Act of Obsession is Sophie and Kolan’s story. Sophie’s life is changed forever when an act of kindness towards a kid at school leads to his obsession with her. This leads to a horrific event that leaves her with scars on the inside as well as the outside. Sophie is no longer the girl she was before and is just surviving day to day.

Kolan has spent his life fighting constant battles. He is a retired fighter who is currently working at the Men of Honor center when he meets Sophie. Sophie is curious about taking self-defense classes but asks for one on one training and Kolan steps in to help.

I really loved this story and I think it is probably one of KC Lynn’s best. I liked the progression of Sophie and Kolan’s relationship. They build trust and a friendship while he is training her and this is definitely needed because Kolan is dying to help Sophie and hurt the person that broke her. The suspense, villain, and resolution to this part of the story was done really well. I had a hard time putting this book down even though I kept saying only one more chapter. If you have read Ms. Lynn’s books you can expect a great flow to the story and a great hook in the beginning. The only area where I needed more would have been Kolan and his lifestyle through Club Annihilation. I think it was a big part of him but it was brushed over a bit and wasn’t weaved in to his current relationship with Sophie enough.

This story can be read as a standalone but of course you get to re-visit characters from her other series and it is always fun to hear their voices. You can expect Kolan to be one sexy alpha male and Sophie to be a heroine that is stronger than she thinks. If you are a fan or a new reader I think you will love this book. Well Done!
