Best-selling author Robert Munsch has created this humorous story about Amy, a little girl reluctant to get out of bed, even when her mother stands her on her feet!
What will get sleepy Amy out of bed? Not her brother's yell. Not her father's stern command. Not even her mother's trick of standing Amy up on her feet! So they do the only thing they can--they tuck her back into bed! Amy's father picks up one end of the bed and Amy's mother and brother pick up the other. They lug it out the door, down the street, around the corner, through the school yard, and into the school. Amy's classmates spend the entire day trying to get sleeping Amy through her school activities.
Robert Munsch was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Fordham University in 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and from Boston University in 1971 with a Master of Arts degree in anthropology.
He studied to become a Jesuit priest, but decided he would rather work with children after jobs at orphanages and daycare centers. In 1973, he received a Master of Education in Child Studies from Tufts University. In 1975 he moved to Canada to work at the preschool at the University of Guelph in Guelph, Ontario. He also taught in the Department of Family Studies at the University of Guelph as a lecturer and as an assistant professor. In Guelph he was encouraged to publish the many stories he made up for the children he worked with.
Munsch's wife delivered two stillborn babies in 1979 and 1980. Out of the tragedy, he produced one of his best-known books, Love You Forever. This book was listed fourth on the 2001 Publishers Weekly All-Time Best selling Children's Books list for paperbacks at 6,970,000 copies (not including the 1,049,000 hardcover copies). The Munsches have since become adoptive parents of Julie, Andrew and Tyya (see them all in Something Good!)
Munsch has obsessive-compulsive disorder and has also suffered from manic depression. In August 2008, Munsch suffered a stroke that affected his ability to speak in normal sentences. He has recovered enough that he is able to perform live, but has put his writing career on hold until he is fully recovered.
Introducing another generation to the wonders of Robert Munsch, Neo and I began this curious journey together. After a night of television binge watching well into the early hours, Amy makes her way upstairs to go to sleep. When she does not arrive for breakfast, members of her family try to wake her, but are unsuccessful. Since the world does not stop for a sleeping child, Amy's bed is wheeled to school, but no one there can rouse her either. After sleeping the entire day and through the night, Amy wakes, feeling refreshed, but confused by a number of strange dreams involving those around her. Neo laughed about the idea of being wheeled into his classroom, asleep and in bed. Still, as I told him, if it meant not being marked absent, why not?!
Get out of Bed! by Robert Munsch and Illustrated by Alan & Lew Daniel is a book for primary readers. This book is vertical in shape because the pictures are all about humans. There is a verity of colors on the pages, but they are all bright and cheerful colors. The parents, brother, and school principal all try to wake AMY up to no avail. The pictures are mixed full bleed and bordered by the white space for the words. The rising action in this story is that Amy won't wake up, and if she will wake up at all during the day or is she going to stay asleep all day. When she is at school "asleep" the students and teacher still involve her in the daily activities, by using her as home-base during recess, painting on her and her bed during art, and using her as a table during lunch. When Amy finally wakes up the next day, she seems to no realize that she slept an entire day, and feels like it has only been the one night. What will happen when she gets to school? Will her friends tell her about their day with sleeping Amy or will they decided a full day of sleep is needed?
Get Out of Bed is about a girl named named Amy who stayed up super late on a school night. In the morning each one of her family members attempt to wake her up, but do not succeed. Instead of leaving her home they take her bed with Amy in it to school. Once at school all the kids and principal tries to wake her up in many different ways, but they all fail. Amy ends up sleeping through the whole day and night. the next morning she wakes up and did not know what happened.
A theme in this story is persistence, because everybody is very persistent to wake her up from her deep sleep.
As I read this I found myself being humored by it, because they tried so many methods to wake her up. When her family took her whole bed to school it was so funny that they actually thought to do that.
I recommend this book to anybody looking for a good read and wanting a feel good story. This provides a good laugh and can put a smile on anybody's face. It also shows persistence and different ways to get woken up.
I think everyone should read Get Out Of Bed. The illustrations and the surprise ending are fun. The first reason to read this book is the illustrations are amazing. The illustrations are funny. For example, when Amy is watching all of the shows. The illustrations will keep your eyes peeled on the pages. Another illustration is when Amy is sleeping in the middle of class! Another reason to read this book, is it has a surprise ending! For example at the end, all of Amy's class mates are sleeping And she is watching all of the shows again! I believe Get Out Of Bed is the book for you! I think you should buy this book
I feel like this story was inspired by my uncle. My uncle can sleep for a whole weekend and not even be bothered.
Amy must have been tired if she slept for a whole day! Nothing at all worked to wake her up either, I mean, they pretty much have tried everything they could think of.
They brought her to school in her bed, and she didn't even wake up!
It was funny to read though, just a silly little book that isn't supposed to make any sense at all, just for the laughs.
When Amy won't get out of bed, her parents don't know what to do. Amy's brother comes up with a wacky solution that gets Amy to school on time. But will her school ever be the same? This is Fun story.
A silly book about a girl who stays up late and the escapades that ensue when her family tries to wake her up the next morning! This is exactly what it’s like trying to get my own kids out of bed every morning…
Picture Book - I️ don’t feel like this book had a very cohesive ending. However, the illustrations were fun and helped tell a story about a very tired Amy.
Get Out of Bed! by Robert Munsch tells the story of little Amy who sneaks out of bed and stays up very late watching TV. The next day, she doesn't wake up for school. The book uses Munsch fun repetitive writing style as her parents, her sibling, her principal and all of her classmates desperately try to wake her up to no avail.
This book is cute. Alan and Lea Daniel illustrate Amy as coming from a mixed Asian and White family (I think) which is good representation and the story line is fun, silly and engaging.
In the middle of the night , when everyone else was sleeping , Amy went downstairs. She watched the late night show and finally went to bed she was feeling very tried . Next morning everyone was waiting for at breakfast table but she still sleeping .. it's good book and some part of the was really funny .
This book I found kind of quirky. This book mainly is about Amy and how she can’t get out of bed. She is constantly tired and no matter how hard her brother and parents try to wake her up she just snores and snores away. I kind of liked how it ended how everyone came to class in their beds. She thought that she was having strange dreams about being in bed. I don’t quite know what to make of the ending. I can only assume that she was dreaming the entire time but either way it was a fun book to read.
This is a fun story about Amy who decides to sneak out of bed late at night to watch TV when she should be sleeping, and then can’t wake up for school the next day. What follows is a very interesting day, as her parents and brother drop her off to school in her bed. :0)
This story was illustrated by Alan and Lea Daniel and they did a pretty good job with the bright pictures, but I have always preferred Michael Martchenko’s illustrations when it comes to Robert Munsch’s stories.
This is a story about a girl who stays up lat at night and watches many late night T.V. shows. She finally goes to bed and sleep through an entire day (24 hours). Her parents are not able to get her up, nor is her brother, so they decide to take the entire bed to the school with her in it. At the school, even the principal is unsuccessful with waking her up. Her parents pick her up at the end of the day and the next morning she thinks it was all one weird dream she was having.
Amy won't wake up on the first day of school. Everyone in her family tries to shout and rustle her up, but it's just not working. How will they get her to school? Move her bed into the classroom, that's how! And so the events of the school day carry on around her, as she dozes through. What will happen on day 2? Her classmates have the last laugh - that's for sure! Cartoony watercolor illustrations and a repetitive story pattern make this fun for kindergarten through grade 2.
Amy stayed up late watching TV. The next morning her mom, dad and brother try to get her out of bed. When they can’t they carry her bed to school. She sleeps through school all day and they take the bed back home. The next morning she wakes up and goes to school and all of her classmates are at school asleep.
I read this book to my 4yo boys and they loved it! They are big Robert Munsch fans. Get Out of Bed is about a girl that stays up late one night and sleeps through the entire next day. Her parents take her school asleep and she goes through the entire day asleep.
Definitely a winner, especially before bedtime. Had my boys in giggles!
A story about a girl named Amy who just won't wake up. She stays up too late and sleeps through the whole next day. Her brother and parents do everything they know how to get her up, and eventually just send her to school in her bed. Then the teacher, principal and students try to wake her up and can't do it. Nothing too great about this book. It was okay.
Get Out of Bed was another adorable story written by Robert Munsch. He really knows how to write books that relate to children! All of his books bring back memories. Get Out of Bed is self-explanatory. Kids in this book don't want to wake up and get out of bed, even when their parents are yelling at them. This story was very funny, and I enjoyed it.
The over-the-top antics of the characters dominate the plot, as is the case for all of the Robert Munsch books that I have read. The scene right at the end is quite humorous, which might lead me to consider granting this book one and a half stars.
This book is a gem. With school starting soon in Canada (next week - yikes!), I think most parents will relate to this humorous book. I played the book, from Robert Munsch's website (with Robert Munch reading it) to my 16-year-old son and even he thought it was spot-on.
