Jennifer Blake is back and her sleepy little town just got a whole lot noisier. When fishermen find a dead body in the water, Ben gets tossed head first into a serial murder mystery that stretches back entire years, and he’s not happy. Add to that the fact that Jennifer is now heavily pregnant with twins, and the killer seems dead set on taking her out of the equation, and you have one explosive combination on your hands.

This novel started out a bit slow and very much in the vein of Blood Eagle, but about a third of the way into it, the story took on a fast-paced life of its own and had me reading late into the night. I will be the first to admit that I am not usually a fan of police dramas, but Mr. Chambers has  a way of crafting an engaging story rich with action, emotional turmoil, with just the right amount of supernatural elements to form something unique.

Fair warning: this book is meant to set up future novels in the series and ends on a “to be continued...” note. However, it does it so masterfully, I didn’t mind at all. Fans of Jennifer Blake will be happy to know there seems to be a lot more to come for the heroine and her growing family.

This book doesn't disappoint. If you've read the rest of the series than you know Jennifer Blake is kind of a badass. You also know she is a magnet for trouble. Poor Ben is gonna get an ulcer one of these days, haha. A lot of book series lose me around the 4th book but this one proves to be every bit as edge-of-your-seat-nail-bitting-good
