Monsters Within

Rate this book
A long-lost father. A world of nightmares. And sorcery. Let’s not forget the sorcery...

Tooth & Claw, Book 4.

Randall Carter lost his father when he was ten. Not to accident or to crime, but to nothingness. Randall’s brother Kieran swears dad left mum for another woman, but the truth is he disappeared and not even the police could find him.

Ellis O’Neill has everything he never wanted: power; responsibility; guilt. A seat on the Council, a fledgling under his wing, and the crawling fear that in fighting monsters he may well have already become one.

As vampires across London disappear one by one, Ellis’ power becomes a sought-after commodity. But when the visions he receives are too much like his nightmares, facing the darkness might fall to Randall alone...

Amelia Faulkner was born in Thame, Oxfordshire, and sprouted upward in short order. The ground around Thame is reasonably mucky, especially in the winter, and she can’t be blamed for wanting to get away from it.

Raised on a steady diet of Star Trek and Doctor Who, Amelia stood no chance in not becoming a grade-A geek. She has sat on the board of the British Fantasy Society, contributed fiction and fluff to various published roleplaying games, and written non-fiction for SciFiNow and SFX Magazines. For every positive there is an equal and opposite negative, and Amelia is forced to admit that she loves Wild Wild West.

In her spare time she enjoys travel, photography, walking her Corgi, and trying to convince her friends to replay the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game with all the Goblins decks.

After a month of lukewarm to meh books, I have hit it big! Two for two! Monsters Within #4 in the Tooth and Claw series by Amelia Faulkner is a win, win, win for me. The vampires, werewolves are all just trying to make it through the day and exist when all of a sudden out of nowhere comes trouble. I've got to say I was so freaked out I almost went to the last page to make sure my boys were going to survive. I didn't. I absolutely enjoyed the way Faulkner kept me dangling on a string. I adored the ending and I enjoyed every character new and old. To be honest, without giving any spoilers away I really enjoyed this entire book. Two for two people, two for two! I hope this isn't the end of the series but if it is I can live with this. If I must!

I really enjoyed this installment in the Tooth and Claw series. I loved the fact that Ellis just didn’t get over his attack from the last book and was struggling to come to terms with it. Seemed a bit more realistic than just going on like nothing happened. I loved how Randall was with Ellis and how he refused to let Ellis push him away. I feel so bad for Ellis. He has gone through so much and he is such a good character and doesn’t deserve all that has happened to him.

I think my biggest complaint was the ending. It felt a little rushed. I wanted to know more about what happened after the events in this book. Hopefully we’ll get more information in the next installment. All in all, it was a really good book. I highly recommend it if you are a fan of series. It is definitely not a standalone. In order to fully understand everything that happens in this book, you should start with the first book in the series and work your way to this one.

Great

4 ⭐️

Great addition to the series
I really enjoy Ellis and Randell. I liked that the actions of the last book were still being dealt with here. They weren’t automatically ok, there was a process to dealing with them.
I also enjoyed the storyline and the resolution to this one. I liked how it all tied in.
I’m looking forward to the next one especially considering it is from other characters POV

They keep getting better. Gotta love some magic thrown into the mix. It's so obvious about vampires, and yet, I never really considered it. Also, yay for people getting all horny in the most inappropriate situations.

Intense

Fear, trust, acceptance, responsibility, self-doubt, family, ... Many changes, many emotions, and the impact of traumatic events isn't glossed over.
Ellis must face what he has done and what was done to him, while also deciding what he is and is not willing and able to do with his too-corruptable new power. Can he and Barb actually start working toward changing vampire society for the better, dragging it out of the controlling past? Still, he has to avoid sharing his secret discovery of how to gain another vampire's "gift", sure that it would lead to deadly chaos.
Randall refuses to let all of that divide them from each other, while facing his own unexpected revelations about his long-gone father, and growing into his own leadership position in a pack with a very different background from his own.
Han takes an analytical approach to his new state, but Jay fears his experimentation will go too far.
"Magic" becomes a topic that has to be taken seriously, when something or someone is able to take out the strongest vampire with ease, but no one seems to have real answers. Ellis winds up with new cause for nightmares when he finds the answers the hard way.

8/14/2018: She finally wrote more: Han & Jay's book! *cheers* I'm rereading this one to remind me where we left off.

To many feels

I absolutely love this series. I think I like book four a lot more ,but whenever a new one comes out it seems it gets better. The thought of magic made me excited to read this book.just the thought of more crazy magical discovery that Randall and Ellis get to discover is fun. they are kinda new to the supernatural world when they suddenly get confronted by something they have no idea about. they take you the reader on a trip with them. I kept on laughing when Randall did something in his wolf form to antagonize someone. It's weird how the author makes Ellis so human, when his far from one. his having a war inside himself about what's wrong and what's not.I do think that Ellis and Randall's relationship could be stronger,I get this feeling that they aren't always 100 with each other, even when they are. I enjoy this series so much because it's letting me discover this new world that has its hidden secrets you get to do it with the main characters,I always have this feeling that this world is just getting bigger and more awesome has it expands. Can't wait for more!

Best one yet in this series

These books have hit better as the series has gone on as nd this is the best one yet.
There's still some room for improvement when it comes to ending the particular plot thread running through each book as opposed to the general world story.
However, the world building has been excellent, there is a definite British voice to these stories, annoying Yorkshire dialect misuse aside, and an interesting twist on the normal vampire mythos.

Barb and Aaron are brilliant support characters, adding to Jay and Han, the streets of London come to life on the page and this mysterious world lives and breathes with believable customs and rules.

There's also a lot of great humour, some highly erotic sex, loads of heartfelt emotion and whoever designed the smoking hit covers deserves a medal.

I hope this series hasn't ended as I'd love to continue reading about this bunch of supernatural beings and their world.

Another superb story

Randall and Ellis I love these stories and the ongoing storyline.
Constant problems for this couple but their love is profound throughout and how accepting they are for each other and those around them.
We delve deeper into Randall's past and his missing father. Vampires are not arriving at their yearly check ins and it is apparent that something's wrong.
I love each of these stories I've been drawn in from the start and adore the strength and resolve embodied in Ellis.
Eagerly awaiting the next story thank you Amelia
