Jeremiah Tully lost his sister when a shifter attacked them while camping with friends. He blames himself…and rogues, believing they are a danger to society. When he finds a group of like-minded people who call themselves hunters, he joins up and spends three years helping them hunt, capture, and sometimes even kill shifters and vampires. Then a few new guys show up, telling tales of demons, and how they want help capturing some. Jeremiah doesn’t believe their tales, but when the demons attack, Jeremiah quickly turns into a believer. He flees the building, but then is chased down by one of the monsters when he crashes his dirt bike. When he wakes in some kind of clinic run by gargoyles, he thinks he’s a dead man. Instead, he learns that some humans live side by side with the gargoyles as mates, and one of the gargoyles, Grateman, is claiming him. While Jeremiah realizes he does have an odd attraction to Grateman, can a mating between a gargoyle and a hunter really work?
Ugh. We barely learned anything. Can we have people that talk and stop focusing so much on the sex or getting distracted? Is that too much to ask?
Lately I've been feeling like Richards books are getting shorter and shorter and she's just putting words on the screen. Books just aren't the same as the beginning of the series Wolves of Stone Ridge.
This is the fifteenth book in this series, but can be read as a standalone as there is enough information to understand the relationships. Grateman and his fellow gargoyles are after a group of hunters that are going after shifters and other paranormals. After one shoots Vane, another takes off on a motorcycle chased by Grateman, but crashes and is seriously injured. Grateman recognizes the man, Jeremiah, as his mate by scent and takes him back to the hunter’s compound and the doctor to save him. After everyone is stable, both Jeremiah and Quinn – the other hunter who shot Vane, are taken back to the gargoyle compound to recuperate and hopefully provide information about the hunters so that the gargoyles and the rest of the paranormals can stop them. Jeremiah is afraid at first, but then he realizes he feels an odd pull towards Grateman. He’s not gay, but he feels comfort and strength and affection from Grateman and he likes that. He’s in pretty bad shape and the doctor and Grateman are doing their best to keep him comfortable so that he can heal. He’s a bit freaked out by the pregnant gargoyle mates however. When his fellow hunter, Quinn discovers that Jeremiah is there as well, there is trouble. But Jeremiah is still in bad shape and he’s not so sure that he doesn’t want to help Grateman and stay with the gargoyles. He’s not a bad man and he’s really been trying to do the right thing. I really liked Jeremiah in this book. He’s got his own story and he’s evolved even before he’s taken in by the gargoyles. Grateman is patient and kind – both to Jeremiah and even to Quinn. I liked the two of them together and I’m really looking forward to see what happens with the next episode of this series. And honestly, I want more gargoyle babies to hatch! Come on Charlie – we need more hatchlings, not just eggs ;-)

I really enjoyed the two main characters in this paranormal romance. I usually hate hunters in my fiction, however, Jeremiah, at least, had a guilty conscience for trying to kill just any paranormal just for being paranormal. Grateman is a gargoyle (and I just love gargoyles) who realizes that Jeremiah is his mate, and after Jeremiah crashes on his motorcycle, Grateman takes him to the infirmary to get him medically treated for a broken rib. They are both cute and funny, and my favorite part of their mating (or any of the gargoyles) is when Grateman goes into molting and becomes human. It's truly fun to see how the gargoyle's appearance will change. Yes, I'm glued to this series and I'm onto the next book.
On a major re-re-read of the Stone Ridge world. I usually enjoy Charlies' short stories and novellas (the occasional one is a clunkier) but I have found that the best way to read them is to series binge and read them in the recommended reading order for the 'world' instead of by series. This gives a much more satisfying read with a more consistent plot line and world. Even the clunkers become acceptable as a small part of the whole. The characters are still good, and as usual Charlie uses stereo types with skill and develops characters indirectly. The only characters that develop depth are those who appear and then reappear frequently. As individual reads? 2 or 3 - though 3 is more common.
Same old, same old. I liked it but the romance is as always simple and the ending more often than not rather abrupt. This time, still recovering from injuries, with an imminent threat hanging over them and the prejudice of the clutch an issue, it ends immediately after the bonding. I mean, I do enjoy this series and am still reading it, but there isn't really a big story throughout the instalments and ending a story that abruptly without having solved anything is just lazy writing.
Was glad to get back to this series! As always, an entertaining read... you gotta love those gargoyles! Looking forward to more of them in the near future!
This time around, rather than being someone who mistakenly was helping hunters and would help the gargoyles instead, we have a gargoyle whose mate actually is a hunter. However, he's a hunter with morals who really believes that some shifters must be killed, the ones who are killing humans. He ends up with the hunters and so finds himself in clutches of gargoyles when they raid the facility.
Jeremiah never knew about gargoyles, so he is shocked and afraid when they come and attack his facility. When he wakes up in their care, injured with a gargoyle tending to him, he is terrified that he is a prisoner who will be thrown in a cell and tortured. As he learns more he knows he needs to help the gargoyles. Meeting his mate, Grateman, he is astonished that the gargoyle can love him even with his scars and his past, and commits himself to their cause.
I wish we could have seen a bit more of him getting to know the rest of the clutch, but otherwise I enjoyed this story as I did the others.
This is a great story of Jeremiah who turned a hunter after his sister was killed by a demon. In a group now he's set to destroy these beasts, But when the group gets attacked they all have to flee. Jeremiah runs on a motorbike but meets with a tree with the monster behind chasing him. Grateman has been ages looking for his mate and finally scenting him on the bike. For him and his mate the hunter is not going to go down well with the others. But he must save his life first. Can the hunter accept being a mate to be his mate of a gargoyle. This is a great book. I'm totally getting the rest of the series. Recommended Book
Other than the usual over used catch phrase, this time his human, this wasn't too bad. Didn't learn a whole lot about the group Jeremiah was with. He had an interesting take on things being a hunter and all, but I guess that explains why the biggest block was his partner being a male for the first and last time.
I have been reading this series for some time now and I continue to look forward to the next installment. This one has a couple cliff hangers so hurry Ms Richards.
Grateman was involved in the raid on the hunter compound. A couple of hunters were taken one of these was his mate. The other turns out to be another's mate. But the war is coming
Grateman finds his fated mate in a raid on a Hunter facility. Luckily fated mates trump everything and they get their sweet moments, sexy times, and their HEA.
