Bonnie MacDonald lives on the wild and beautiful Scottish Isle of Skye. Her life is peaceful enough, apart from the ever-simmering feud between the McDonalds and the MacLeods, who live to the north. But now her father is going to die, and it is not to be a Highlander's glorious death in battle, but an underhanded assault in the dark by a traitorous servant. That same treacherous fiend had once come after Bonnie, but at the last moment she was rescued from violation and murder by the one man she cannot show gratitude to, the son of her family’s sworn enemy, Rory Mòr MacLeod.
And yet she falls in love with her rescuer, and he with her, and there never were two more star- crossed lovers. Neither family will readily accept a union between them, but Rory does not give up on making her his own, though Bonnie often misconstrues his intentions. Matters are further complicated when they discover that Bonnie’s guardian harbors a secret passion for his beautiful young ward, and soon claims her for himself.
But everyone’s plans are foiled when another suitor for her hand kidnaps and whisks Bonnie away to a lonely house in the north of Skye. Her only chance is to flee her captor and seek sanctuary in Rory’s castle at Dunvegan. But while Bonnie fights for her own survival, the battling clansmen bring their families to the brink of war, and all for the love of the same woman.
Hold Fast is a historical romantic suspense novel; it is also a sweet romance with no illicit sexual liaisons. The story is based loosely on real events leading to the Battle of Coire Na Creiche, also known as the Wars of the One-Eyed Woman, fought on the Isle of Skye in 1601.

SOMETIMES LOVE HAS TO WAIT; IT MUST BE PUT ASIDE FOR THE GOOD OF OTHERS I loved this book and was drawn into the story, the characters, and the multiple tragedies. It is about two warring Scottish clans, the McDonalds and the McLeods. They have been at war for more than a hundred years, and to the point that no one alive even was sure as to what or why, just that it was still taking place. What happens when Bonnie McDonald and Rory McLeod fall in love? Will they be allowed a union or will the battles continue? The plot kept me captivated and the pages turning with so many emotions, a deep abiding love that is torn into by war, add deception, plotting, murder, kidnapping, and arranged unions and the story will keep you in suspense. The dialog is emotional, at times heartwarming and other times makes you want to cry and scream at the injustice to women. Note to Blushing Publication readers, this story is a historical romantic suspense that is completely clean about two clans and two people who love each other. It contains no DD, D/s, BDSM, sex, etc.
his was a frustrating read in there were so many people and circumstances working to keep the hero and heroine apart. At one point I even gave up and thought she should just be with the other man who wanted to marry her. Bonnie went through so much turmoil and dealt with everything with strength and resilience. I really liked her, even when I wasn't on board with her decisions, or actions. The hero tended to bother me more with the things he did and failed to do. In the end I was rooting more for Bonnie to have a happy ending in general than specifically for the couple to end up together.
This is not a spanking/Ds/dd story as you would expect from Blushing Books, also no sex, but well worth the read.
I enjoyed this historical story of warring Scottish clans very much. The heroine, Bonnie, is strong-willed and feisty, and has to endure heartache and deprivation in order to be with the man she loves. For in those days women were often expected to marry for the benefit of the clan, or at the whim of a parent or guardian. But Bonnie is not the sort of woman to accept her fate without a struggle.
The story is extremely well written, with lots of emotion and excitement, as Bonnie faces one problem after another. The story keeps you in suspense all the way through and I could hardly put it down once I had started to read. A wonderful book, and I look forward to reading more by this author.
Escape to medieval Scotland in this tale of romance, tragedy, and spirituality that kept me in suspense until the last page. I enjoyed every moment of reading the modern descriptive prose intermingled with the medieval Scottish dialogue. The depth of the characters and the way Bonnie told the story had me there with them the whole time. The plot brought me joy and tears, but through it all I had faith that I would find peace at the end. I look forward to reading more from this author.
I really enjoyed this story. The characters were well written and the plot, thoroughly engaging.
This was different than the stories I usually read, and I found it refreshing and wonderful. It kind of reminded me of Romeo and Juliet. romance, tragedy, action...
Bonnie was a wonderful lead character- I loved her strength and resilience, even after everything that happened to her. And I adored Rory. Wonderful story.
Author Heather Hart takes you on quite an adventure through the Scottish Highlands. Wonderfully descriptive and excellent character development! I felt like I was right there with Bonnie and living her experiences. Be aware, it's for adults only! Well-written…lusty and erotic, with some exceptional twists and turns. I highly recommend and give it 5 out of 5 stars!
