Quick study on the emotional and physical aspects of recruiting for a cult. Was this what Bruce Springsteen referenced in his song? Is L.O.W. really just "low"... seems like the cult was selling the drudgery of poverty as a means of control.
I clearly remember picking this book out of my school library. It was the title. It reminded me of a song that had once been on the radio a lot. I had no notion of what the book would be about. Turns out it was about a cult; a sister trying to get her brother out of it, while getting very involved in it too. The whole idea of a cult was very eye-opening to me...religion twisted outrageously. Anyway, it's one of the few books that really stand out from the ton of other books I read while growing up, and it seemed like I had read nearly every book in that library.
My rating is purely based on the fact I remember the book so many years later. Whether the writing or story was good enough for me today to rate it as 4 stars is unknown (unlikely).
My opinion of this book is I didn't like it. It is a book I thought was not the best. Well, if you like it, is your opinion. But, I didn't like it. It was confusing and weird. But, at the end it was pretty interesting. Well, I suggest you don't read it.But, you should if disagree with me.
The characters in the book sound like they hate there father. There names are Gail and Jim. Well, I guess Jim wanted to go and join there father's religious cult. And Gail is just worried about her brother and his saftey. And hers. But, at the end it ends pretty good. If you like mysteries or solving puzzles.
A family is crushed when their oldest son is sucked into a religious cult during his final years of college. When his younger sister is accepted to the same universsity, she makes it her mission to find her brother and bring him back to the family. What she is not prepared for is having to do undercover work which could result in family losing yet another child to the "Light of the World" cult.
Kinda good... I wanted to know what happened and stuck with it ... Perhaps too short to flesh out characters and develop a bit more about the cult's doings, but a solid 3.
