There is just not enough Petopher as far as I am concerned.
So, imagine my overwhelming joy when this morning I discovered not only a new Petopher but one written by Lisa. Who knew today was going to be such a good day?
This was heartbreaking and hearthealing. It was painful and beautiful. The past and the present written in a way that just flowed and carried the emotional feel of two people the same but oh so different.
The Petopher I've been waiting for - not that I'd have said no to the longer smuttier story this was originally intended to be! ;)
Two strong men who have come through a great deal, connecting. I loved how the strength of both characters comes across and how much they've both been through, how it's shaped them. The road to disaster clashes of their start and then the surprisingly gentle reunion. Peter is still dangerous and Chris is still a hunter - but we're left with the feeling of them each being a stronger and better person for having the other. Lovely.
You guys, you guys, you guys... this is Petopher, and it's set in the same universe as some of DW's other TW fic, and it fits right in. You don't necessarily have to have read those before venturing here, but why wouldn't you? Why?? *side eyes*
Innyway, this one here: I like how the past is interwoven with the present, something DW has deftly done before, and it works to heighten the emotion and my connection to this Peter and this Chris.
Chris tells the story but knows Peter so well, providing excellent insight into him, too. Chris reaches deep down inside, grabbing Peter's dank innards, seeing them for what they are, wrenching them into the light -
.... wait, wot? Light? Insight??
For Petopher? By DW??
Yyyyyyyyyyyyup.
Giddyup, fellow wranglers, yer in for an unexpected ride with these two. Years of knowing someone leads to unavoidable... everything.
I would have liked more of them together in present day, but I'm straight up freakin greedy.*
*that means I want mo'.
“I’m wounded, Christopher,” Peter says.
Chris tests the resistance of the trigger under his finger. “Not yet, but you could be.”
"Later, he wants to pretend it took him a while to go inside, but that's a lie. He's drawn straight to the door, straight past the juiced-up bouncer, straight into the darkness and the stench of beer and the discordant twang of whatever shit Country music is blaring from the jukebox. Straight to Peter Hale, like he's being pulled into his orbit. Like Peter is the sun and Chris has been spinning for too long in the darkness."
"They're not the hunter and wolf in this moment. They're two men carrying more heartbreak than they should. Two men carved out and torn apart by loss and bitter experience. They're lonely, Chris thinks. They're lonely."
Petopher!!!
Most excellent Petopher.
This was absolutely brilliant. I want to quote the whole thing. I also want to reread it right away. The sexual tension?? Jesus!!!
No one has mastered the use of the flashback quite like Lisa. Every inclusion is perfectly placed, perfectly pitched, to add context, poignancy, and purpose.
It's not necessary to have any prior knowledge of this pair to appreciate this journey.
How did I miss this when it came out? Oh well, that was rectified this morning. It's a short read, but it sure packs a wallop, especially in dealing with Chris Argent's unbelievable losses, which the show glossed over like TV shows always do. And now I really, really wish that the writers would pair Chris and Peter, because more than the most popular TW ships, these two just MAKE SENSE.
Another excellent book by DiscontentedWinter. She added a new perspective to Peter and Chris and their relationship, really making me feel their pain. But with a happy ending.
And my unapologetic crush (really it's a shameless addiction but shhh) on DW's stories grows ever larger. *sigh* This was a wonderful fix...errr, addition to her collection.
This unexpectedly made me cry. Damn it, Lisa! I tend to only read Sterek in this fandom, but since DW wrote it, I figured It would be good. It so was, and the feels just snuck right up and I was crying.
I hadn't read any Sterek for ages, then Tara rec'd this, and it was so lovely, sad and uplifting at the same time, every time I read DW writing I am blown away. I still haven't read any Sterek though
