Ryohgo Narita (成田 良悟, Narita Ryōgo) is a Japanese light novelist. He won the Gold Prize in the 9th Dengeki Novel Prize for Baccano!, which was made into a TV anime in 2007.[1] His series Durarara!! was also made into a TV anime, which began airing January 2010
There are two traits found in most of Narita's works: * Narita writes extremely fast, one volume a month if he wishes - with tons of spelling errors and missing words as a tradeoff. The editors like to leave them sometimes just for fun, though. * His work titles often have an exclamation mark at the end (i.e. Baccano!, Vamp!, Durarara!!, etc.).
I love Narita, I love Durarara, but I don't love this volume.
I get that he wrote this while sick, ok. It's just that it didn't feel worth reading at all. The story is a mess even for the usual chaos in Narita's work. The POVs in this story are just boring and it takes like 50% to differentiate them. The mystery is not really a mystery, because we understand everyone's actions (and that's not necessarily wrong since we could enjoy how the paths cross, but most of these crosses are random or happen off-screen). It could've worked if it was longer and had an Awakusu-kai, but we got a rushed & boring story.
Now it's time to grieve the teased 5th volume that will probably never come. Sad, because the last page of the novel makes it sound interesting.
A new group arrives in Ikebukuro, and a old foe makes a new appearence. The gift shop run by Anri is robbed, and Celty tries to solve the issue. Typical of Ryogho Narita novels you should pay attention to all the various plot threads and characters, from previous novels, in the series. It makes me wish I remember more from the previous volumes. The action is pretty good, and there are plot twists and new characters to follow. THe climax could have been better. I wonder what comes after this.
