Deadpool (2012) (Collected Editions)

Deadpool. Tom 1. Martwi prezydenci

Rate this book
Deadpool to jeden z najpopularniejszych w ostatnich latach bohaterów komiksowych.

~~~~~~
في خلال الست قصص الاولي من السلسلة دي عندنا مايكل -او زي ما بيتريق عليه ديدبوول، بمبلدور- اللي شايف ان المجتمع الأمريكي وسياسة الدولة في انحدار، لذا قرر بكتاب سحري عمل تعويذة لإعادة إحياء الرؤساء الأمريكيين العظام القدام
وطبعا لا يخرج من المقابر سوي أجساد الرؤساء لكن بأرواح شيطانية
ويقرروا تدمير أمريكا كلها وقتل الامريكان اللي افسدوها وبناءها من جديد
طبعا منظمة الدفاع لم تحب ان تخاطر بظهور الافينجيرز -زي كابتن امريكا- يصارعون ويقتلون الرؤساء الزومبي لانهم مهماةكان رموز أمريكية مهمة
لذا بتستدعي بريستون ديدبوول، سوبر -مش هيرو- بالأجر ليخلصهم من الثلاثين وشوية رئيس بأقل ضجة ممكنة
وبمساعدة من شبح بين فرانكلين الذي لا يراه احد سواه
وايضا زيارة خاصة لدكتور سترينج
وتبدأ ملحمة قتل الرؤساء
من حديقة حيوان مع تيدي روزفلت
للتنكر في زي مارلين لكيندي
وصراع في الفضاء مع نيكسون
وملاكمة مع لينكلون في فيجاس
وصراع دموي مع الاب المؤسس لأميركا
كل هذا في تلك القصة المقسمة ل6 اعداد كوميكس للسلسلة الثالثة لديدبوول
ولنتعرف عليها ومن وراءها
سلسلة ديدبوول الثالثة
~~~~~~~~~

Tony Moore

There aren’t a lot of comics on my TBR because (1) I am poor and the liburry selection tends to be more than a bit limited, (2) I have old lady brain so I mix up all the character’s origin stories, and (3) I have the attention span of a flea so continual storylines and I are probably not going to play well together. But then I found Deadpool. He’s my lobster and everything about him makes me go . . .

(Ha! There is no end to the power of the sploosh joke.)

Dead Presidents is about – you guessed it, dead presidents. Seems a necromancer took it upon himself to stir up a real hornet’s nest of undead former Chiefs of Staff because he felt ‘Murica was going right down the ol’ pooper. Wonder why anyone would think that?????

Anywho, the dead presidents are wreaking havoc all over tarnation and it’s up to one person to save them. CAPTAIN AMERICA! Unfortunately, the press has a field day with the Cap’n offing our founding fathers so Tom Selleck Agent Gorman calls in Deadpool to save the day instead . . . .

Things go about as well as can be expected with quite a bit of this . . .

Now, you might think things would be a little long in the tooth because there are JUST. SO. MANY. of the undead to work through. Good news is, Deadpool doesn’t believe in filler . . .

The bad news is, when I saw Brian Posehn’s name as the writer my expectations were more than a little high. While there was some of the classic Deadpool humor . . .

This one relied heavily on the gore and not so much of the funny ha-ha I expected . . .

Good news is, there’s another new Deadpool later this month which I anxiously await. Until then . . .

Supposedly that's about Deadpool, but if you're a comic reader here on GR, you'll know it might also be about a certain Hulk fanatic who has developed a recent obsession with the Merc with the Mouth. My turn for this title FINALLY came up at the library and what do I discover? He hasn't even read it yet. Jeebus!

Eh.
I didn't hate it, but I'm glad it wasn't longer.
My teenage son loved it...if that tells you anything.

So a necromancer brings all the former (dead) American presidents back, in a misguided attempt to make the country...better. Yeah, it didn't work. They came back without their humanity, and now they're just a bunch of gross corpses with crazy character flaws.
It was pretty silly, and I was only mildly entertained.
But.
If Deadpool is your super-duper absolute favorite character EVER, then you'll (probably) want to read this one.
However, if you only have a passing interest in him, skip it.
Unless you're a teenage boy, then this is a must-read!

I did think the ending was cute, though.
Are you allowed to say a Deadpool comic is cute?

Yup. Sue me. I like juvenile humor when its done right and I thought this was done right. :)

I mean, you've got everything your Civics teachers in American Public High School would want in an educational comic! We get to name ALL THE PRESIDENTS! We even get a little treat with them, such as little tidbits that made them real people...

... as they were resurrected as evil incarnations of themselves bent on destroying America and of course we get a smartass Wade to dispatch them because Shield doesn't want to be seen doing *this* kind of really dirty job.

Make America Great Again! Was taken up by a Shield-sponsored necromancer who's misguided attempt to Save this country by bringing back all the Founding Fathers and the old presidents. That's funny as hell, but even better is Ben Franklin as a skirt-chasing ghost who gives Deadpool a lot of sage advice.

But best of all was journey. He got to kill all the presidents, AGAIN! I gotta say, it's a toss up between killing Lincoln and George Washington and Reagan as to which is my favorite. :) REAGAN IN SPACE! STAR WARS! :) lol

This is solid fun, imho. :)

Duggan and Posehn have found the perfect mixture of humor and action rarely found in any form of media. Think Ghostbusters in comic form. It reminds me of Giffen and DeMatteis great run on Justice League International. I'd love to see what they could do with Spider-man.

In this book, a necromancer raises all the dead presidents and they decide the only way to save America is to kill all Americans. It's balls out, crazy, insane...in a good way.

One of those regrettable situations where something designed to be hilarious does not even bring a weary smile to your face. Several friends whose opinions I respect and usually share like this book a lot, which is a good reminder of just how subjective humor can be.

It’s not that I generally dislike over-the-top violence or political incorrectness in fiction - I tend to enjoy Garth Ennis, Warren Ellis, Johnny Ryan, etc. Still, this did not click with me for some reason. Part of it is probably the fact that I am not comfortable with Marvel/Disney putting a well-meaning, likable, amusing, dude-next-door-type (if super-powered, ultra-violent, and a little dumb) face (that of Deadpool) on the government’s alleged need for certain people to do their dirty (but necessary, of course) work in secret: "You're not the hero we want. You're the scumbag we need." War mongering, institutionalized torture, and illegal global surveillance systems immediately come to mind – not the best context for what is presented as gory but light-hearted, ultimately hilarious entertainment.

The covers by Geof Darrow are obviously fantastic, but they just made the whole enterprise feel even more shallow and cynical to me.

Deceased US presidents have been resurrected and are wreaking havoc. To protect their image, S.H.E.I.L.D. refuses to dispatch The Avengers. I mean, can you blame them? You can’t have Captain America running around lopping off the heads of George Washington, Abe Lincoln and John F. Kennedy - what a P.R. nightmare! As a last resort, they look to someone who could care less about their public image; Deadpool! Can Deadpool defeat the former heads of state before America falls?

Brian Posehn & Gerry Duggan bring the funny as the new head writers for the Marvel Now Deadpool series. When I say be brings the funny, I mean it. This trade was damn hilarious. Just picture Deadpool battling the likes of Ronald Reagan, FDR and William Taft - who travels in a flying bathtub - while cracking some pretty hilarious one-liners and various witty remarks. The story flows well and while the humor is the central focus, it doesn't distract from the overall story.

I should also point out that Tony Moore's artwork is perfect for the series. It gives off a cartoony vibe to match the humor while also holding up strong for the intense violent scenes. I can’t wait to read the next collection!

Forget that Daniel Day Lewis movie or that other flick where Honest Abe hunts vampires - this is Lincoln’s finest 2012 appearance!

The run-up to the Deadpool movie saw a lot of sales on Comixology and for this reader, it was a deal that I couldn't ignore.

I finally patched up some missing chapters in the last volume of the Deadpool monthly comic. That comic launched with this story as the opening arc and I read it when it came out originally as floppies. I think I liked the story better reading it as a trade. One could really wallow in the manic energy of Deadpool rather than have it dissipate at the end of every month.

The writers made Deadpool live up to the character's "merc with a mouth" moniker, with dialogue that discharge a joke a minute. The artwork blended well with the writing, with artist Tony Moore's cartoony figure work appropriate for the comedic tone of the book. It was also cool that editorial managed to get Geof Darrow to provide the first five covers of the series and for the trade. The absurdity of the cover images both capture the gist of the story and the intention of the writers.

If you're new to the character because of the movie and from word of mouth; this would be a great entry point into the crazy world of the Regenerating Degenerate.

This isn’t bad but... maybe disappointing.

What’s it about?
A necromancer wants to fix America’s problems by raising dead presidents and having them fix everything. Seems like a decent idea until you remember that bringing people back from the dead is a bad idea that almost never works out well.
So now these dead presidents (also, side note: zombie presidents... President Evil would have made a much better title for this volume!) are hell bent on destroying the country because... uhh... well, we need a story somehow and SHIELD is trying to stop all the chaos. They happen to find Deadpool and figure that it would be a good idea to have Wade take care of the job.

Pros:
The art is very good and fits the tone of the book.
The characters are fun and interesting enough for a story such as this.
There’s a lot of exciting action throughout. With Deadpool you can expect some of Marvel’s most over the top action and that is especially true here! Oh, and there’s one scene where Wade suggests listening to Five Minutes Alone by Pantera while reading this particular scene, I tested it and he’s right (also Deadpool has good taste in metal 🤘).
Fans of blood and guts in their comics will be happy to see the lots of gore. This might be the most gore I have seen in a Marvel book that isn’t Punisher MAX.
The humor here is hit and miss, I’m putting a note towards the good humor here because there are some great jokes that made me laugh quite a bit.
The ending is pretty great.

Cons:
The story is kinda dumb. Mostly because the dead presidents trying to destroy America is random, there’s no reason. That unfortunately makes this story nonsensical and while I get that superheroes and such aren’t realistic, many stories about them still make sense within terms of fantasy, not the case with this particular one.
This book is fairly predictable. There’s one twist at the end I didn’t expect but for the most part it’s predictable.
When I said the humor is hit and miss, there are some jokes that are not funny at all.
The villains are kinda problematic. Many readers including me will have some problems seeing American history figures (especially Washington and Lincoln) done as undead villains. This story does put emphasis on it being because they changed when being resurrected somehow but still.

Overall:
There are some great things about this and I will be reading more of it, especially since I’m pretty sure it’s a few later single issues from this run that got me into Deadpool, who is now my favorite Marvel character! The art, gory action and such are great but the story is so nonsensical and the villains are so problematic that I would only recommend this to people who are already fans of Deadpool.

Updated Review: So this was better upon re-read. Few more jokes landed and I really dug the art this time around, some awesome bloody fight scenes. I think the problem with Deadpool works so well Rated R that the PG-13 version in the comics doesn't work as well for me. But I did enjoy Ben Franklin being a funny dude.

But yeah reading the entire Omnibus, hope it goes deeper into Deadpool mind to get a more down to earth story.

Original Review: Man, I guess Deadpool comics just don't work for me. I can never finish a whole volume. I really tried to get through this but came back with being extremely bored. Basically it's just Deadpool going around killing dead presidents who have come back as ghost. One or two funny jokes aside, nothing really hits. The art is somewhat decent atleast. However, another snoozer for Deadpool comic. A 2 out of 5.

I don't remember the first time I read this run but this remains my favorite run of Deadpool!

Most people love Deadpool for the jokes but he's much more than that! He has a pretty damn tragic history and Duggan and Posehn never shy away from that. We get a Deadpool story with depth on top of hilarious jokes. I'm not sure if their senses of humor just mesh well with mine or what but no one's Deadpool books make me laugh as hard as these. I love this series!

So, a necromancer called Michael (who Deadpool refers to as Bumbledore) wants to return the country to its former glory and brings dead presidents back to life. Cap tries to handle it but attracts too much attention because he's Cap. Deadpool encounters one of the zombie potuses and takes them out. SHIELD Agent Preston, who I love, hires him to finish the job. What ensues is a hilarious series of Deadpool trying to find the presidents and take them down with a mythical sword named Nancy.

Agent Preston is an amazing character! I remember being surprised at how much we got of her and her significance because she's 1) a female character 2) a black woman 3) (probably) not a love interest and this is a series from 2 white guys. I wasn't expecting anything great but Duggan and Posehn created (?) a well rounded, important, self assured female character who doesn't exist solely to serve Deadpool. Bravo!

Anyway, Deadpool describes her as "one of the few people to ever really believe in him" and that really got to me. I couldn't think of anyone else in that category but yes, throughout this book Preston actually thanks Wade for protecting people. She tells him he did a good job and asks him if he's okay. She cared. So, when the time comes for Wade to repay the favor, Wade's dedication is earned. I understand why he feels the way he feels and it' was very well done.

I love the art in this book as well! It's perfect for Deadpool. I adored ghost Benjamin Franklin, too! I don't always love Dr Strange but Posehn and Duggan poke enough fun at him here that his portion was entertaining.

I planned to just re-read this one volume but I'll probably keep going. I really missed this series!

Sometimes I think I exaggerate about how much I love Deadpool and then I reread Deadpool comics three or four or five times and I realize I'm probably under exaggerating how much I love him. I gave this four stars the first time, but I'm changing it to 5 because it's just so fun and enjoyable and Deadpool.

Storyline: 3-3,5
Artworks: 5+

Not best Deadpool storyline ever, but artworks were good, Deadpool-Marilyn Monroe vs Dead Kennedy was hilarious, the two (too short) cameos of Cap America made me laugh so much that I really wanna read a Steve Rogers' run by Posehn & Duggan and the reference to Ben Franklin bedding Clea in the 70s was funny but not true: it was the evil wizard Stygyro in disguise seducing her, and Strange quickly destroyed him for that. But it seems that Doc and the authors forgot that.

As a longtime Deadpool fan, I feel like my desires are pretty simple. If I read a Deadpool story, I'm looking for humor, silliness and over the top violence. In all three categories, Posehn and company more than deliver. The idea of some necromancer bringing the dead presidents back to life for Deadpool to have to take out because it's too embarrassing for Captain America was just too perfectly Deadpool. I read this right before watching the movie and turns out that that was a wonderful choice. If you like over the top silliness and violence, this series should be on your list!

Asi začnu počítat kolikrát Deadpoolovi vylétnou střeva z těla (nebo komukoliv jinému, když už jsme u toho).
Škoda, že tomu nešlo věnovat víc prostoru, protože někteří prezidenti zemřeli aniž bych si toho všimla :( . A někteří otrapové ne a ne umřít.

My first experience with comics, and I'm glad I started with Deadpool. After watching his movie, he quickly became -almost- my favorite Marvel character (after Spidey). I loved his sense of humor, his background, and the Reynolds portrayal. I can't deny that I read these comics with Ryan Reynolds in mind!

In this issue where Deadpool fights the ghost of former US president, a mission which S.H.I.E.L.D entrusts to him instead of the Avengers because they don't want their image ruined, which sets the tone and tells you what to expect in upcoming volumes. Deadpool is the guy with the bad reputation, even if he saves Earth.

I loved seeing other Marvel characters in here, and I was expecting it to be gory but I was surprised with how gory it was! Yikes!

this wasn't exactly BAD, i just don't think it's the kind of deadpool story that *i* want.

it's a fun enough story and it's ridiculous enough for deadpool.

where it falls short for me is how deadpool is... kind of..dumb? all he does is rattle off oneliners and popculture references while constantly getting impaled and guts everywhere. it's supposed to be funny but to me it's boring, it's flat and it's pointless. there are a few attempts at meta commentary which doesn't really work because it's half assed. there's two or three breaks of the fourth wall which are also completely random and pointless because it's not done in a clever way, just a 'right this is a thing deadpool does so let's just put it in here'.

this is really, really not the deadpool i like or want to read about. and maybe i'm spoiled, having read only cable & deadpool and some of the dark reign stuff, but this stuff doesn't have any depth. it's not cleverly done.
deadpool is really, really good when done well, but also really, really bad when the writer who's writing him doesn't know what they're doing. >.< and i feel like the writer has no idea what he's doing with deadpool here, or at least fundamentally misunderstood the character and the great potential in him. so some people want the quippy deadpool, that's fine. but i want something more than that, and this isn't delivering. <.<

This was really funny. Of course it would be, though. It's Deadpool.

The artwork was awesome. Dialogue was great too. As a history buff, I really loved the American presidents in this. Posehn threw in a lot of really accurate jokes about quite a few of the presidents (Nixon and Watergate, Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe, etc.). I thought that was so awesome. And also there was a Pantera reference, so gotta love that.

Overall, I really enjoyed this and can't wait to read the next one.

"You're not the hero we want, you're the scumbag we need"

I ain't 'fraid of no ghost. With dead presidents wrecking havoc upon The United States of America after being resurrected in the hopes of saving America, there's only one person that can save the country. Well, actually, there are quite a few people, but the job lands in the hands of Deadpool. Can he save everyone, or will he end up doing more damage than good?

Humorous, action-packed, full of gore, and plenty of fourth wall breaks. This story isn't going to be winning any awards for thought-provoking dialogue or a mind-boggling plot, but it's still a ton of fun. Deadpool is such an out there character that it doesn't even seem weird to see him slashing his way through evil, zombified ex-presidents. Everything about this is ridiculous and over the top and I had an absolute blast. However, I'm glad that this doesn't break the 200 page mark as I feel like, after an extended period of time, it could become a somewhat tedious read with the juvenile humour going from fun to overdone.

*this review is from 2015 not 2022*
So get this - this is the first Deadpool trade I've read! Not only in the 5+ years of rating books on Goodreads, but EVER!

The closest I've got until now was that volume of Ultimate Spider-man that he was in (which wasn't very good) and him appearing in some team books.

He's just never appealed to me that much. Even less so lately now that I'm seeing more and more memes of him on Facebook and Twitter.

So, I thought the Marvel NOW relaunch title would be a good place to start.

I'm still not getting much of the appeal? It's probably because I'm becoming old and boring and jaded, so violence and pop culture jokes aren't all that appealing to me if there isn't a good story behind it (I think I counted two Star Wars jokes in here. One of which was quite good). Speaking of the jokes, they have to be funny. Writing good jokes, especially in comics, isn't easy. These two writers come from a comedic background (I think?), so like I said about the Star Wars joke, there are some good ones in there.

Honestly, what I liked most about this was the use of obscure presidents that I've never heard of, because it felt like I was learning a little bit about American history (even though I've forgot their names now already). But them coming back from the dead as zombies is a cool idea, which is why this gets 3. And Tony Moore is also good at drawing zombies.

Also, does Deadpool usually spend this much time without his mask on?

Maybe that Deadpool binge I went on awhile back was counterproductive, because I think I'm getting tired of one of my favorite Marvel characters. Sure, I still appreciate him as comic relief, but when it's his own book, what is the comedy a relief from? This story in particular is almost painfully silly: zombie dead presidents, because reasons. Which leads to a lot of clunky one-liners that are vaguely related to to presidential history. A lot of action, though, and a lot of violence. There were some really fun scenes, especially at the beginning, but I feel like maybe the story outlived its usefulness after a few issues. Great art, though.
