Legal Wolf’s Mate is by Eve Langlais. It is currently available in the Growl (Feral Passions #1) anthology along with stories by A.C. Arthur and Kate Douglas. This will be available by itself on October 4. This book was generously provided to me in exchange for an honest review by NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press, and by the author.

He doesn't wear a suit very often, but if he did, this is what he'd look like;):

Gavin is a successful lawyer who always wins his cases, no matter what. He was turned into a wolf against his will by a crime lord hoping to secure his very own lawyer, Fabian Garoux. But Gavin is a lone wolf. He refuses to follow what Fabian had planned for him and has his own successful clientele. Gavin had been told stories about Fated Mates, that once you see “the one” that everything shifts inside you and that one person becomes your world. But he didn’t believe any of it. He liked his life as a bachelor. That is, until he saw her!

Megan is a secretary for one of Fabian’s enemies. Suddenly, her boss turns up dead and Megan is arrested for the murder with incriminating evidence found in her apartment. She can only afford a public defender until an acquaintance takes her to Gavin’s office for a meeting. He is annoying, arrogant, and devilishly handsome. She can barely fight the attraction she feels towards him. But if he is to be her lawyer, that means hands off. But Gavin states his intensions right from the start. He plans to pursue her, so she better just get used to the idea.

Running With Wolves....:

“So you’ll take me on?” The flutter of her heart now had more than one reason to stutter fast.
“Oh, never fear, little rabbit. I fully intend to take you.”

“You make it sound so ominous. As if I don’t have a choice.”
“You don’t. Don’t you remember what I said? I’m a wolf, and I always get what I want.”

Women with guns.. Badass and sexy at the same time.:

This was so much fun to read. It’s a bit of a who-done-it! These two characters bicker and butt heads but boy is there chemistry between them. There are a bunch of surprises and kept me guessing right up to the end. It was just over 100 pages so it is the perfect length for some quick entertainment. I love Eve Langlais and this book did not disappoint.

3.5 She’s MINE Stars

The last thing Megan remembers before waking up to the police busting down her door and arresting her for murder was coming home to her apartment, Thai food in hand, with the hopes of some serious chillaxing time. How the hell did she end up in jail for a crime she has no recollection of committing? Who could want to frame her for her boss’ death? And what the heck happened to her takeout?

When sexy mofo and badass defense attorney, Gavin is asked by a friend to help Megan out of her little quandary with the 5-0, he’s not sure what to expect. That all changes as soon as he lays eyes on the curvy beauty waiting to meet with him. Is she guilty? Who cares! He’s finally found his mate and he’s not letting her get away. So what happens when Megan finds out Gavin’s calling dibs? Oh, and that he’s a shifter to boot?

I don’t venture into the realm of PNR reading very often, but when I do Eve Langlais is a favorite of mine. I love the humor and irreverence she brings to her stories and Legal Wolf's Mate is no exception. Gavin and Megan bring on the snarky humor and the heat as expected and overall I had a great time reading it.

So why the 3.5 star rating instead of a 4? As much as I enjoyed it, there was something missing. A certain spark or something I can’t quite put my finger on. I found myself skimming through certain sections which, given the length of the book, should’ve never even entered the equation.

I’d recommend this for loyal fans of Ms. Langlais or anyone looking for a little fun with their PNR read.

Legal Wolf’s Mate by Eve Langlais
Hilarity in the prose and situations plus twists for the fated mates. Silly and fun lines like “Mess with my woman, mess with me. Apparently, wolves like cavemen had a lot in common.”
Sexy and comedic romance that leaves me asking who’s next. And then the author clearly tells you in the epilogue.
Love this author.

Told in 3rd person and dual POV, this book was the tale of successful attorney and werewolf, Gavin (who was extremely hot), working to exonerate Megan of murder. It didn't help that she seemed to be framed and that he didn't have all of the facts of the case. It also didn't help that someone out there was out to get her. Or that he was extremely attracted to her. Or that she was his mate! Did I mention that Megan was human? And that she was reluctant? Not to mention that her looks were quite deceiving?

Follow these two on a race against time to figure out who really did the killing. This was short, sweet and steamy with a quirky HFN.

Legal Wolf's Mate-- a paranormal quickie that's full of entertaining characters. The basic gist is that Megan has been set up for her new boss's murder and our dashing hero, Gavin, just happens to be a lawyer and intrigued. And a little knocked back on his ass since it turns out his new client...totally his future mate.

This was a pretty fun read at first. I really enjoyed Gavin and Megan. She's a little fiery, he's a little alpha. He makes demands. She's like pfft! There's an instant attraction but everything's set up nicely world building-wise to deal with their insta-relationship and her finding out he's a wolf so it doesn't leave one rolling their eyes. It was a good time as they tried to keep her safe and figure out who was not only behind framing her but kept trying to attack her. And, of course, dealing with pesky attraction. lol

But then there was a very abrupt plot twist that left me feeling like I'd been duped by a main character I'd grown to like. I'd started to fall for them and they turned out to be what I'd consider a fake character who'd just been putting on an act. It might have worked for me if this had been a longer read but being a novella I just wasn't able to get back on solid ground with them. It was like brakes had been screeched and I was whipped around going wait, what?

In the end Legal Wolf's Mate was a decently fun read but in the end not my favorite from Langlais.

Three and a half from me
This story by Eve Langlais is also available in an anthology called Growl so if you own that book than this story will not be new to you. I've loved her purple aliens so finding out her take on wolves was something I was very keen to do and must admit it was quite a surprise !
Gavin is a lone wolf and I was very intruiged by his relationship with the wolf who turned him but alas it's a short story so I'm left wanting more information about that. When Gavin is asked to take on a pro bono case he gets way more than he bargains for as the woman accused of murder is his Mate! Is she guilty ?
It's a unique set up and this story was full of surprises with a heroine that is much more than she would appear to be at first. I'm not sure if this will become part of a series but it certainly has scope for more.

Legal Wolf's Mate was a good fast read. Gavin is a lone wolf that enjoys being alone. Everything changed until he was asked to represent a woman with a murder case. This story was a bit mysterious and involved some god action scenes.

This is a lovely, fast, paranormal read. It has great characters and plenty of surprises along the way. Gavin is a lawyer and a lone wolf. A friend asks him to take on a pro bono case defending a secretary who is accused of murdering her boss. As soon as he sees her he recognises she’s his mate. Is she really innocent? Can he defend her - and resist temptation whilst doing so?

This story has some highly original twists and is full of surprises. The characters are well developed and they have some hidden depths that are only revealed as the story progresses. With more murders and evidence against Megan that can’t possibly be true, there’s definitely a conspiracy against her. Can they discover who is behind all the murder and mayhem and keep Megan safe? I really enjoyed it and hope it is the start of a new series.

“You’re my lawyer, or maybe not. I’m really beginning to rethink this whole idea.”

“Ah yes, because you’d rather take your chances with your public defenderre, who has advised you to what? Oh, that’s right, plead guilty.” – Eve Langlais – Legal Wolf’s Mate

Fabian Garoux absolutely, positively, without a doubt, is not a sucker for a sob story. No. Really. After all, he is an attorney . . . (Argh!!! Run Away! Run Away!!!!) But when the best friend who found you running around naked in the woods after you were changed against your will, (And ate a rabbit. Raw. Eww.) asks for your help, well, it is hard to say no. Especially when the guy who is apparently framing the ‘Damsel in Distress’ for murder is the very scumbag who turned you against your will!

After all, revenge really is best served up cold with a side of “Got’cha!”

Set-ups, betrayal, revenge, and the most deliciously wicked ending, evah! made “Legal Wolf’s Mate” an actual thrill ride rather than the formulaic Paranormal Romances that are so common today. Oh, and don’t forget the Bounty!

Megan starts out seeming like a downtrodden simpleton, and I pretty much went “Huh? Who wrote this again?!” but as the story progressed, she became more and more interesting. Then more interesting. Then . . . well, you are going to have to read it to figure things out!

I received this book from Eve Langlais in exchange for a realistic review. All thoughts are my own.

You know I was actually enjoying it up until the plot twist and it just ruined it. He's kind of an asshole domineering alpha wolf which worked for him. She was funny and sassy and wasn't taking his shit. She could give right back. and then....

It went from funny and sassy to this stupid plot twist that was just threw everything off. I don't mind a strong female character, in fact I love them, but this just felt way off. I was enjoying the characters as they were and then there is an abrupt change and we don't have enough time to settle into a new norm. In the end I just felt disappointed that what was a pretty good story ended up disjointed and mearly ehhh ok. This was my first Langlais novel and I'm not inspired to try another one.

This was by far the strongest story in the Growl anthology so I'm rather happy it's been released by itself.

Cocky, super lawyer Gavin is blindsided by his mate who may or may not be a murderer. Lots of steamy goodness on the way to unraveling this who done it.

Legal Wolf's Mate is part of the Growl anthology but it can be purchased as a standalone here.

I was rather excited about Legal Wolf's Mate: the blurb seemed right up my alley so its the only reason I read this anthology. I've not read a lot of Eve Langlais lately as the last few books by her that I've read have been more miss than hit for me.

I was really, really hoping that Legal Wolf's Mate would change that for me... It did and it didn't at the same time.

In fact, I enjoyed most of the story...until we got near the end. The end kind of ruined the story for me: I would have been ok with the story as it ended if the text had have been more forthcoming. I disliked not being in on the joke and [as a reader] I felt

By the end, I was disappointed but the read WAS entertaining and I did laugh out loud a few times.

Review courtesy of All Things Urban Fantasy:

There are so many fun surprises in LEGAL WOLF’S MATE that I was grinning the whole time I was reading it. The characters are fun, the mystery is just weird enough to be interesting, and the romance is smoking hot.

In a world where only men can be werewolves, the women who they love need to be strong. Gavin isn’t sure that Megan is strong enough to deal with being a wolf’s mate, but as soon as he sees her sitting in his waiting room, he knows he has to have her. She admits that she feels the same electric attraction to him, but since she’s the one being framed for murder, she really thinks they should stick to business… At least until the trial is over.

The fated mate motif can be super cheesy, but in a novella, it definitely works. It makes it easy to get rolling and explains how quickly the characters feel a connection. It’s the supernatural equivalent of getting back together with “the one that got away”.

As Gavin and Megan dodge murder attempts and fall into bed together, the plot gets thicker. Her apartment gets broken into and vandalized, another man turns up dead, and it turns out Megan may have had the strength needed to kill a man in the first place.

The surprises are too fun to spoil, but they were well set up enough that I never felt like it was completely sprung on me. As I was still digesting the twists, little things I had read came back to me, now clear. The writing is tight and there were almost no lulls in the story. It’s easy to get into and satisfying to read.

LEGAL WOLF’S MATE is a nearly perfect novella, with just enough world-building to give a taste of the bigger world without being frustrating.

Gavin is a very successful lawyer and a werewolf. A werewolf that doesn't really believe in the idea of "the One" and prefers instead to play the field. However, when he meets his newest client, Gavin realizes it is not a myth. Now he must get his client acquitted of murder and convince her that they are meant to be together. But Megan has a few secrets of her own that may or may not conflict with Gavin's plans.
This was a steamy paranormal novella that was full of surprises and humor. Megan's relatives were quite entertaining!

Holy plot twist Batman!! I didn’t see that coming.

Legal Wolf’s Mate is a short entertaining read. Originally published in the Growl anthology, this short novel is now available in stand-alone format. Gavin, a high powered attorney, takes on a pro bono case for his friend Broderick. Little does he know, the woman accused of murder is actually his soulmate. He didn’t believe in the existence of a fated mate until his eyes land on Megan.

Here’s what went well - Gavin is instantly attracted to curvy girl Megan. I loved his swagger. He’s sexy and he knows it. Why bother beating around the bush, right?? He tells Megan flat-out that he plans to own her. Actually, he was completely honest and upfront with her about everything…including being a shifter. She just assumes he was being an arrogant ass. Megan was not upfront nor honest. She and her family definitely provided some WTF moments. I honestly didn’t see the plot twist coming, but I wasn’t disappointed. Loved, loved, loved, Gavin’s nickname for Megan and how he uses it!

Here’s what didn’t go so well – There’s no background information given on the characters. I don’t recall Gavin’s last name ever being mentioned. I know they’re characters and not real people, but I still expect that information. Gavin’s enemy and maker has a full name, why not the main characters. Yep…I’m a nit-picky bastard. I also expected a little more steam. Another small issue for some may be the lack of condom usage. They weren’t even mentioned.

Although short, this is a solid read. It’s what I like to think of as a quick little pick me up me. I’d recommend it to readers who enjoy bite size paranormal romances with sexy and sometimes deranged shifters. My steam factor rating for this book is a 3/5. My overall rating is 3.75 Stars.

DISCLAIMER: I RECEIVED AN E-ARC FROM THE PUBLISHER THROUGH NET GALLEY IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW. RECEIPT OF THIS BOOK IN THIS MANNER DOES NOT AFFECT MY OPINION OF THE BOOK OR THE CONTENT OF MY REVIEW!

I've read a few of the author's other works, and they were hit and miss for me, but it had been a few years since I had read one of her works, so when the publisher asked me to read and review this one, I decided to take a shot at it. Unfortunately, I wasn't that impressed with it.

I started out really admiring Megan and her convictions, even though she faced an almost insurmountable problem. However, the plot twist surrounding her really ruined her as a character for me. It felt like the author was trying to appeal to the urban fantasy audience by using this plot twist. It felt somewhat forced and cheap to me.

Gavin may have seemed like an alpha, but I didn't see him like that. He came across as petulant and clueless most of the time, though he did redeem himself by going after Megan when she had been taken to her grandparents' home.

The mysteries in this story weren't that complex, though I didn't focus on them to figure them out either. They felt ignored for the most part, save for when they were needed as a plot device. I would have liked to see them fleshed out quite a bit more!

What redeemed this story for me was the supporting character Broderick. He seemed like an interesting character, and references to his shifter form had my interest piqued. I like how his antics made me laugh, so I hope to see more of him in another book!

All things considered, I wouldn't recommend this book to others, but I did find it a bit of an entertaining way to spend a few hours.

Legal Wolf's Mate by Eve Langlais is a sexy paranormal shifter romance, wrapped with some mystery, and topped with a wicked twist to make this fun story completely irresistible.

At the insistence of his friend and fellow shifter, Gavin takes on a pro bono case for a woman being accused of murdering her boss. He has no problem trying to defend a suspected murderess. However, this wolf-shifting lawyer, is completely thrown for a loop when he realizes his new client is his mate!

For Megan, one day she was a normal secretary and then the next she is being accused of murder for a crime she didn't commit. Luckily, fate has lead her to Gavin and these two immediately begin to create sparks, even in the face of danger like someone threatening Megan and trying to prove her innocence.

I enjoyed these two characters. Megan is definitely not shy and she can definitely hold her own against Gavin. They had great chemistry. However, what I really loved and what I felt made the book stand out for me was the twist! You must read to find out more. Definitely satisfying and it all lead to a great ending.

I happily recommend reading Eve Langlais' Legal Wolf's Mate.

This was given as an ARC from the publisher.

This was actually a part of an Anthology of Eve Langlais Kate Douglas and A.C. Arthur.
It was pretty much of the same content but, reading it again brings back the humor the first time I read it.

I so love Gavin, and remembering how obnoxious he was brought the memories back. He wasn’t gullible, nor he was stupid, but, he is just in love and lawyer makes things a little bit dicey. I remember him being charming and demanding and how pissed he was. But mot off all, I remember the realization that he was able to find the “One” for him.

Meg? Oh I love her personality. An assassin that was set up for murder? Simply funny, and her I thought being a hired gun was great. But her? It was something altogether funny. I can understand her frustration, and also her anger. But mostly, I understood why she was reluctant to accept Gavin as her mate. A big shot lawyer has a an assassin for a mate? Fate really has a twisted sense of humor.

In the end, everything went well. What can I say? Mates, will always and will be mates. It’s up to the person if it will be accepted or not. In this story, all as well that end’s well…

However… Brody may seem to be in a pinch…

Legal Wolf’s Mate is an adorable shifter story by paranormal romance veteran Eve Langlais. At 113 pages, it is definitely a shorter tale, but this author knows how to work the length. First presented in the Growl anthology, this tale of lawyer meets client included shifter action and notorious crime bosses. Fans of Langlais know that she loves to use snark and humor in her work, and this was no exception. I will say that the heroine in this case seemed a little strangely subdued, but still managed to keep up with the alpha male. Short but sweet, and very typical for the author – overall a good read. 4/5!

Legal Wolf's Mate by Eve Langlais is sweet, sexy and full of surprises. Gavin is a successful lawyer and turned werewolf. Megan is a bad girl who is wrongfully accused of her boss’s murder. Gavin agrees to take the case as a favor for a friend. What he doesn’t expect is for the curvy bundle of trouble to be his one true mate. He isn’t happy and neither is Megan but Gavin loves a challenge and Megan is the sexiest challenge he has ever had. I love the interplay between these equally strong partners.

With Gavin it's not all about business 24/7, “I will, in a minute. First, I think we need to take care of more pressing business .” His business pressed against her lower belly." Gavin can do smart things...when it suits him, "he ducked as she threw the glass bowl of candy on the table. “I see you need time to process this, and I really should go get that paperwork done.” He just couldn’t help himself. He flashed her a cocky grin..." I really loved this book, and I can't wait for more to come in the series.

I have just finished reading this book and found it an entertaining read.

The characters are well developed, strong and funny. I found myself laughing on so many occasions and it kept me reading until the very end. I loved the two main characters and their interactions were awesome!! The story was well presented and I found myself trying to work out who the bad guy was, which tells you how well it was written.
