One month ago, Zara didn’t know aliens existed, and now, she is not only one of them, but she is their royal; standing at the front line, fighting against the slavery of the human species. Half-breeds are a delicacy, and those in charge will do anything to stop the Lomazzos from ending their reign and the chance of owning a half-breed of their own. Lives will be lost, and others used as bait; the Lomazzos will discover a secret that none of them saw coming—A secret that might be the end of Zara and Jett, or might be the very thing that gives them the ability to cripple the alien species.
I thought this entire series was really amazing. So much so that I could not stop long enough to write an individual review so I am going to have to sum it up here and post it for every book in the series. I love Carrero's spin on the YA/NA mob romance. Trust me, you will be like WHAT? Her writing is interesting and steamy in many ways. Her descriptions of bonding really made feel what being one would really feel like. Now human trafficking is one of my big no nos that I usually do not read about and am a volunteer bringing awareness about this in SC, but I can say this...Carrero does something I have never seen before. She uses fiction to make a stand. She shows the people in power making a stand to make a change. So, I applaud Carrero on her approach to this very disturbing and sensitive subject matter
This is an intriguing idea and Carrero has such an interesting concept that I can't wait to read more of her books. New fan here! Now beware that this series gets seriously gory as it progresses so weak stomach beware. Also, Americans please make sure you are brushed up on your British slang or your gonna be a little confused.
I've read the other series by Kelly and found similarities about how either the mum or dad doesn't portray a good example. It's disturbing and an easy excuse for the author to get the teenager to be on their own (true to the severed wings series) and avoid further complications so that the characters can stay focus on the new life they're destined for.
The above statement is based on the idea of the story's beginning before we finally get the explanation. As for a review of this book, this one is my favourite. It's action-packed, full of surprise and new revelation. Just one request tho, to have a prologue and find out more about Zara's father.
Well thank God the 4th book was better! I'm happy that Zara got her happy ending which included finding out who her mother and father were and they stopped the human trafficking was a great bonus. It was also so refreshing not to have Zara and Jett having sex as much or making googly eyes at each other like they did in book 3. That was exhausting and irritating when Carrero could have written in more substance. Instead of 4 books, there should have only been 3. The couple got their HEA although a bit rushed.
Just finished all the series re-read. Think it's better after the first time. Zara is so much more special than most. Jett loves her more than anything. That kind of bond is to die for. Loved the whole Alac part wish there was another book so we can see what happens with her having a family. Would love a follow-up book with the rebuilding, Jett taking over as boss man, Alac, and what happen now that the humans aren't to be treated like they were. Loved the books.
Okay, for the most part, this book was alright. The storyline was good and the action was AWESOME, but there were some elements that again, stopped this book from getting 5 stars.
What I liked: - The action; boy was the action good. - The storyline; I liked how the storyline progressed, and it is clear that the author had this whole storyline in mind when she first started writing the series. The whole take on Earth actually being the actual aliens planet and Humans came from another planet was actually quite interesting.
What I didn't like: - OMG! The constant need to for the main character to jump into her boyfriends pants. It's like this author thinks that, that's all young adults think about - SEX, SEX, SEX. It got the the point where I was about to delete the book off my kindle just because of that. - The romantic interactions where also VERY repetitive. Like, they would always slap each other on the ass, or they would always think of each other in a certain way. Clearly writing about romantic interactions is not where the author's strengths lie. - The inappropriateness of the sexual thoughts. If it weren't for the AWESOME rescue - I would have given this book a 2 star rating, just for this point alone. Like for F#&* sake...do people really think about having sex when they are trapped in a dark room fearing for their life....???! I'm pretty sure that wouldn't be the first thing on my mind!
- I also didn't like the development of "Humania", nor the planet name. I feel like this part of the story was not well thought out. While it was a good concept, having humans come from another planet, I couldn't resist an eye-roll when I found out the planet was called Humania. I mean come on?! Seriously...the author couldn't have been more creative? - I also felt as though Jett and Zara's visit to Humania was too easy. Like the author just wrote about their visit for sh*ts and giggles. Nothing really happened on this planet while they were there and I felt that this part of the storyline could have had so much potential, but it was sadly left undeveloped.
Overall, I gave this book a 4 star rating because I did enjoy the action and the overall storyline. However, there were elements of the story that definitely stopped it from acheiving a 5 star rating. I don't know if I would recommend this series, and I'm not sure if I want to see another book in this series after this book. Now that is how you wrap up a series nicely. I wasn't sure how this was going to play out but even though I was left wanting more, this finale tied it up with a nice bow. Even though the whole series only spans a short timeline, a lot was packed into the books and even more packed into this one alone.
