A man like him should come with a five-alarm warning…

Vivacious and bubbly Melissa “Missy” Thornton is a career-driven lobbyist on top of her game. She is sent to convince eccentric billionaire Henry Parker to lease out his oil-rich land in Alaska. Before she could meet him, she gets into a car accident and stranded in a snowstorm. She would’ve frozen to death if a handsome stranger hadn’t helped her.

Henry “Hal” Parker likes solitude. As a polar bear shifter, he prefers to live in the wilderness rather than the glamourous life he left behind after his fiancée died. When he helps a trapped Missy from her car, he wonders if it’s a sign for him to finally move on. He can’t get his eyes off her and their attraction is instantaneous.

It doesn’t take long before Missy falls hard for him. Does it matter when Hal forgets to mention he’s a werebear? Uhm, maybe. Regardless, fur or no fur, a guy like him is perfect to curl up with in front of fireplace waiting for the ice to melt…

Lizzie Lynn Lee was a guitarist, receptionist, executive assistant, tarot reader, boutique owner, and graphic artist before she discovered that writing is her dream job. The advantage is that she can do it in her pajamas and socks.

She's an incurable chatterbox, heavy metal aficionado, bookworm, digital enthusiast, and a night owl since most of her stories were done in the wee hours of the morning because of her caffeine-induced insomnia.

These days she still plays her guitar whenever she gets bored staring at her computer's screen or plotting the most elaborate scheme of world domination. Fortunately, she has a chronically short attention span.

Nice and lovely.

Since this was my first read by this author, I really didn't know what to expect. But after reading the first few pages, I was hooked. Despite the slow pace in the middle of the story, I had so much fun reading it.

Henry “Hal” Parker is a sexy, solitary polar bear shifter. He refused the offers from the oil company and told them that he would never lease out his land in Alaska. As a former businessman, he knew very well that a number of people would benefit from this oil investment, but as one of the bear guardians, he and his clan had a duty to protect those who couldn’t speak for themselves.

Melissa “Missy” Thornton is a smart and successful lobbyist. She was sent to convince Henry Parker to lease out his oil-rich land. On the way to Walapusk, her car skidded off the icy road. It became apparent that she stuck in the middle of godforsaken nowhere alone. After hours of sitting in the driver’s seat, someone finally spotted her car. This attractive man introduced himself as Hal. He helped her out of the car and then took her to his place which wasn’t far from there.

They both didn’t know each other’s real name but it didn’t matter because they were busy having marathon sex all night. But when the morning came, Hal finally found out Missy’s business in Walapusk, and at the same time, Missy realized that Hal would not make her job easy.

Anyway, Hal felt the strong bond with her and he knew that she was the one for him. How could he convince her to quit her job and spend the rest of her life with him here? But then again, there was one big problem. She still didn’t know what he really was.

I enjoyed both main characters. Hal is strong, sweet, considerate, and caring, and Missy is lovely and independent. In my eyes, these two were the perfect match for each other.

My actual rating is 3.5 stars but I rounded it up to 4.

By the way, I could consider this one a pleasant read, a nice way to spend an afternoon.

Hot Like Fire, Cold As Ice: Lizzie Lynn Lee

Reviewed by SFF Dragon

A car stranded in the snow brought them together, but love sealed the deal in this short, sweet paranormal romance.

I love Lizzie Lynn Lee books, have been reading them for a few years and I was given a copy of 'Hot Like Fire, Cold As Ice' by the author in exchange for an honest review. Like a lot of her books, this one is short, hot and sweet. It can be read in a couple of hours and like all the books I've read by her, it's overflowing with steamy encounters and erotica, but please don't be mislead, they are never just about the steam and there is always a whole lot of substance to go with it. In this case, it's the very real plight of Alaska's wildlife and the sacred grounds of the native tribes versus the power and money of the petrochemical industry, but true mate love wins the day. I absolutely loved it.

Oil company lobbyist Melissa 'Missy' Thornton has worked hard to get where she is in the business, but she's a desert girl and she really doesn't want to be in the freezing wastes of Alaska, going to a town in the middle of nowhere to try to persuade a reclusive billionaire who's already said no, repeatedly, to lease his land to her employer so they can drill for oil. Even worse, she's never driven in such treacherous conditions and is scared witless when she thinks there's polar bear looking in through the window of her crashed car. When he turns out to be a man coming to her rescue, she's more than relieved...

Henry 'Hal' Parker, polar bear shifter, member of the Inupiat Clan and billionaire owner of the oil rich Kanoshak tundra is on his way home after checking his fish traps when his bear diverts him and he comes across a car, off the road and half buried in snow. The scent of the occupant is what lured his bear and now he needs to take her home to his cabin and keep her....

It's only the next morning when they exchange full names that they both realise who the other is, but they're drawn to each other and need to find a way to deal with the situation they're in. Fortunately, Missy has a brain and a lot of contacts...

I loved this wonderful paranormal romance about two people who come together through misadventure and lust, but find love and a happily ever after as well as a way through the quagmire of greed created by others and come up with a way for everyone to get what they want, except the oil company.

This was a fun little novella full of hot steamy romance. It would have benefited from more background on Hal and Missy plus a longer story to make their connection a little more believable though. Double it with another 80 pages would have fleshed it out nicely. I liked the humor Ms. Lee injected into the story as well as the backstory. All in all a nice quick story for when reading time is scarce.

I've read a lot of books by this author and enjoyed them. Unfortunately this book fell short. I think it ended abruptly and the romance was a little off. The story just ended in the middle without a conclusion.

Disappointment. Just, really, didn't work at all for me.

I read plenty of shifter stories, and plenty of stories that have what is pretty much mate bond insta-love. Sometimes it works, sometimes it can be overlooked, and sometimes it just fails. This was one of those times it fails.

Missy is a lobbyist working for Texaoil and she has been tasked with going to Alaska to negotiate the use of land up there for the company from a reclusive billionaire. However, as a city girl, she is not so great at driving in the snow and finds herself off the road, stuck, and without any cell service. Lucky for her, a local man Hal helps her out and brings her home out of the cold. Then they have sex. Woohoo! Except it was some pretty poorly written scenes and some very rushed sex (literally spells out how he didn't want foreplay and just pushes into her. Nice.) that I found the chemistry for rather unconvincing. Then, after this night of lots of sex, Hal decides he is in love and wants her to quit her job and stay. When she isn't immediately positive about that he leaves for some air. She decides to scope out the land while she thinks about the fact that you know, she's probably in love too. Yup. Just couldn't buy it.

It felt clumsy and rushed in this whole story. From our desert girl adapting to the cold in 24 hours to our do-it-all man continuing to say how 'good' she is to him, this story really never worked for me and was more of a chore to read than anything.

A cute sweet read. Hal...or should I say Henry is sorta a recluse and prefers to live in the wilderness. However, he protects something thats been in his family for generations. He's recently taken over and is a billionaire to boot. Melissa or "Missy" she likes to be called is there to convince him to let her company build an oil rig which would benefit everyone. However, before she gets there she gets into a bit of trouble and gets stranded and rescued by Hal. She's not liking the cold a whole lot and lives in Texas and grew up in Arizona. She meets Hal and sparks fly. Neither one knowing who the other is. I must admit that they got together pretty quickly. She doesn't know shifters exist...so that should be interesting right? Man I tell you the sex scenes were HOT....I was breathin heavy y'all! She's got some decisions to make. Will she stay with Hal or go back to her warm Texas sun? Can she save what he protects?

I actually enjoyed this quick read and it was a fast one. I enjoyed it. The only thing I wanted to know was more background on Missy and I wanted them to spend a little more time together to develop their relationship.

Missy is a lobbyist for an energy company. Her company wants oil right to some land in Alaska and sends he to talk to the owners. On the way there she has a car accident. She is saved by Hal who brings her back to his cabin. Due to a big storm the two are stuck together in his cabin fighting a strong attraction. Missy doesn't know that Hal is the man she has come to see.
Hal is a great hero but I felt that maybe he deserved better than Missy. Of course I don't like lobbyists or people helping companies destroy the environment. I did appreciate her behavior change in the end of the story.

A short steamy romance and with a moral message. The story had a good theme but I felt that in the hands of a good editor it could have been polished up a bit more. I appreciate that the author tried to bring attention to preserving one's heritage and not selling out for what one thinks as a good deal.

Was okay with the instant love Hal 'Henry Parker' fell for Missy when she was trapped in her car when he came across and saved her. The only bad part was the description of rotten birds in the seal carcass that is fermented, the way is was described did make my stomach turn.

I found this book for free on InstaFreebie (now Prolific Works); this is my honest review. Missy Hal
-Editing is to cringe for. It needs a serious pass.
-Unprotected bedroom scenes.
-I loved how Missy decided to bat for the other side - not the way you think; keep your head out of the gutter.
-I loved how Hal was aware of the weight on his shoulders. His ancestors made a pact and he's keeping it.
-I love the bunch of facts about survival, the North and its habitants and the rest.
-The HFN is there but there's no definite ending to the story. We are not sure where they go from there and what will happen to the land. It's missing an epilogue.
-I'm surprised nobody cared that Melissa left her rental car with the window opened and a storm coming. Her briefcase, suitcase, etc. were in there without protection from the elements.
-The book finishes at 82% where you get the author's salutations. At 83%, the bibliography of the author is listed until 85% where a special preview awaits you.

This was a quick read that I enjoyed saved by the plot alone. The story was filled with cliches, incorrect word usage, unrealistic situations, a reference to Seinfeld that added absolutely nothing to the story and lets not forget about a complete halt of an ending. It was not a cliffhanger...it just ended instead of adding as little as 2 more pages.

This was a fun read, only downside for me was that it ended too soon, I was left feeling there was more to come.

This is exactly what it is, A SHORT STORY. Only 84 pages.
Therefore everything that happens is rushed and not on what most would call a normal timeline. Could have had a bit more depth and length then would have been 5 stars.
Interesting story and liked the heroine & hero. Just found it strange they have sex nearly straight away with no discussion about safe sex. Not sensible in this day and age. They each knew they were ok but the other didn't.
Sex scenes good but a bit strangely worded. The author didn’t keep using the same words, basically I think every word possible for body parts and functions was used. I like continuity and this broke the flow for me as I kept thinking “huh! Why call it that.”
Loved the nature versus oil controversy, so true to life nowadays. Trying to find the balance between the good of the local people and keeping an area of beauty pristine.
Not sure if there will be more or if this is a one off but I would love to see John Etoke get a story. He seems very brooding.
All in all an enjoyable read apart from the above word usage.
This is my honest review of this book.

This was a good quick read. I enjoyed the premise of the story about the polar shifters and how they started and all they did to protect them. Hal and Missy make a cute couple so it was nice to see how they get along. I also liked that she didn't play games about the fact that they had known each other for such a short time and decided that he was what she wanted. I could have seen this story with more background on Missy and there were some other things like the rest of the shifters that could have been fleshed out a little more but I like the story overall. There are times when you just need a quick read and this fir the bill for me. Quick read, good story, hot sex, alpha male male and strong female.

I was given a complimentary copy for an honest review by author Lizzie Lynn Lee.

Melissa Thornton, Missy to her friends, is on her way to talk to a man about letting then drill on his land but when she has an accident she is saved by Hal who just happens to find her. Henry Parker finds a driver in a blizzard on his way home but he never expected her to be so curvy sexy and they enjoy being trapped in his home. But Henry Parker is adamant about not letting drilling wells go on his land but can he do that and not loose his mate who works for the enemy.

This is a really good read by the author and I hope there is another book.

Missy meets Hal after he rescues her from her car after an accident. He falls in insta-love with her as you find in a lot of shifter stories. I don't have a problem with the instant love thing, I just feel like I didn't connect with the characters enough to really appreciate their connection. I did enjoy the book and thought it was a good quick read. I liked the characters and the plot. I just wish the story was longer and more flushed out and that we got more background on the characters.
3.5 stars for me

Thank you to Lizzie Lynn Lee for another great read and this review copy. The story takes you to Alaska and the descriptions of this wild and beautiful country are wonderful. Makes me want to visit , but not so much in winter. Unless you had a furry companion to keep you warm. A Polar Bear shifter and a human lobbyist who would have thought that they would be mates. The story is fast paced and you are rooting for a happy ending for all people of Walapusk including Missy and Hal.

This was a quick humorous read. I love the fact that they used humor in such intense situation. The only issue I had was I wish we had more background on Missy, things between her end Hal escalated so quickly I would have liked for them to get opportunity to spend more time with one another. Overall a good read looking forward to see what else is in store for this series.

I was given an ARC for an honest review. I really liked this story and the progression of the story. I was wondering where it was going at the beginning but it picks up pretty quick. I like the chemistry of Missy and Hal. The beautiful scenery and imagery the author presented was beautiful. I loved the playfulness of the den and the leader ;) good book and would recommend!

Love the King Bears! I was wondering how Missy was going to save the day and hoped it would go this direction. Living in San Antonio Texas, I don't really agree with fracking (sounds like a cuss word, doesn't it?), so I'm glad Lizzie Lynn took the story in the direction she did. Here's hoping this turns into a series!

Once again a short story of 5 chapters. Maybe I shouldn't have read this one so soon after the tiger story by Lizzie as it wasn't like the first book, which is a good thing but I was looking for a laugh with this one too. I'm not saying I didn't enjoy the book just that it wasn't what I thought it would be.
