For readers of Sarah J. Maas and of Marie Lu’s Legend trilogy comes Disruptor, the sequel to Traveler, the thrilling conclusion to the Seeker series.
Quin has spent her life as her father’s pawn. She was trained to kill and manipulated to guarantee her family’s power. And now that she’s broken free of that life, she’s found herself trapped again, hostage to a plot that has been centuries in the making.
It’s taken generations for the pieces to come together, and finally all is in place. Her best friend Shinobu’s mind has been corrupted, the Young Dread has aligned with her enemy John, and the bloodthirsty Watchers are being awakened and gathered. Now there is nothing that can stop the force of time.
But Quin will no longer be a pawn. Quin is a Seeker. She stands for light in a shadowy world. She will face the vengeance of the past and its enemies and save herself and the ones she loves, or she will die trying.

What I Liked:
***SPOILER-FREE REVIEW***
(Unless you haven't read Seeker and Traveler - there will be spoilers for those two.)
I've enjoyed Seeker and Traveler, for the most part, and I'd been eagerly awaiting Disruptor for about a year (exactly so, actually!). I am so pleased to say that I enjoyed this conclusion novel, and that it wrapped up the series perfectly. All three books have been good, but Disruptor is easily the strongest novel of the series.
This book picks up pretty much where Traveler left off - with Quin trapped There (the in-between, no-space), and Shinobu controlled by his focal. John is training with Maud, the Young Dread, and he is beginning to see that to become a real Seeker, he must take a different course than he was previously on. Quin meets an unexpected ally in the in-between, whereas Shinobu meets a dangerous foe. Quin, Shinobu, and John are worlds apart, but their paths will collide one more time as shadowy secrets are brought to light and history unfolds.
Finally, FINALLY, we get the whole story. Finally things start to fall into place. This conclusion brings everything to light - the history of the Dreads, the history of the Seekers, insight to the medallions, why the Seeker tech is so advanced even though it appears that Seekers came to be in the Middle Ages. I love how all of the pieces of the puzzle came together. I'm the type of person that needs and demands explanations, especially when it comes to a sci-fi/fantasy world - and Dayton definitely delivered.
As with all of the books in this series, the world-building is flawlessly crafted. I personally think that this world of the Seeker series is unique, in YA and otherwise. The idea of the athame and the magic might not be, but the world, the constructs, and the bizarre history are incredibly different in comparison to other "similar" YA books. Plus, the setting is mainly in Scotland, which was awesome. How many YA novels are set in Scotland (and don't have to do with fae)?
This book is told from many different POVs - which could be a good or bad thing. I thought this aspect worked for this novel (and the entire series), but other readers might not love multiple POVs. But Dayton does a great job with this. The story isn't just about Quin, John, and Shinobu. Maud is a very important character, as is Dex (new to this story), and Nott (recurring character).
Quin has a bit of a different role in this book. She is stuck in the in-between (There), so she isn't in the thick of the action. She isn't trying to take down this person or that, and she isn't running for her life. Rather, she is trying to get out of the in-between and find Shinobu. But to do so, she needs Dex's help. Dex is a man who rescues her in the in-between. He's a little unstable mentally, but he has a wealth of information and is very important in the story, especially towards the end. But back to Quin - while her role isn't as primary as it was in the other two books, it is critical to the story. We learn so much from Dex because of Quin's persistence.
Shinobu gets the worst end of the stick, in this book. His mind is controlled by the focal, and he can barely remember if he saved Quin, or if he left her, or if she ran from him (he left her). And then he is taken in and deceived by a dangerous enemy, who tortures him to keep him in her control. But Shinobu is strong both mentally and physically, and in bouts of clarity, he knows that he needs to find Quin in the in-between and protect her from the one controlling him.
John... John changes the most, in this novel and the series in general. Remember how he was out to get Shinobu, and almost killed Quin? He is not that guy anymore. He has been training with the Young Dread and he has been saving Seeker children. He isn't trying to destroy Seeker houses anymore - he is trying to save them. John is no longer a villainous character; I like how Dayton turns his character development around, and molds John into a better, redeemed person.
And he really earns that redemption, towards the end of the book. John used to hate Shinobu, but John is the one that tries to rescue Shinobu from the true villain of the story.
There are two romances in this book! Quin and Shinobu are separated for most of the novel, but they each spend the entire novel trying to fight their way back to each other. I usually hate that romantic separation but it really worked in this book, for some reason. I like those two together (the reunion was sweet). There is another romance, between John and Maud! That was more subtle and barely-there, but it's sweet.
The ending of this book (and series) is very, very satisfying. I felt like all of my questions were answered, and I loved where all of the characters ended up, in terms of development. I felt like each character also ended up where they needed to be physically (the epilogue! Gah!). I love it when an author doesn't feel the need to have a heartbreaking ending to the series.
What I Did Not Like:
Overall I thought the pacing of the book was good, but I will say that the beginning was a little slow. I didn't remember a lot from Traveler, so it definitely took me a few chapters to get back into the story. After a while though, I was zipping through the pages. I couldn't put the book down!
Would I Recommend It:
If you've made it this far in the series, or even if you've just read Seeker, finish the series! It's a series that gets better, and doesn't really suffer the sequel slump. There wasn't anything too disappointing about the series, except maybe the love triangle scare from Seeker (which disappears immediately, in Traveler and after, and looking back it was quite a harmless "love triangle"). If you like science fiction and fantasy, this series combines both in an intriguing and thought-provoking way.
Rating:
4 stars. I'm interested in seeing what new projects the author will share with us next! I would love to read more of the sci-fi/fantasy blend, but I also think the author would do well with either genre alone, or something completely new. No matter what, I'm here for it!
Let me tell you this, to be honest, I found the final installment of the series above average but not to the point I'll get a book hangover or something. However, due to my overflowing love for this series, I decided not to pay any attention to the things that don't sit really well with me in this book.
Usually, I loathe it when two lovers get separated but boy, I am a bit okay with it in this book because I trust the both of them. That I know, no side bitches will get in the way which always happens in YA novels.
One thing for sure, I am a huge fan of the epilogue. It's just so perfect, I cannot stop smiling just by thinking about it.
Disruptor. The final book in the Seeker Series. A series that I have followed closely, and have felt very protective of. It holds fond memories for me, being one of the first books I was extremely excited to receive as a reviewer. And it's now coming to a close. With everything in shambles after Traveler we pick up a little bit later, with a new character.
This new character really threw me for a loop. But honestly you learn to love him no matter what. Quin, Shinobu, and John are still the characters that you love. And they grow into characters that you respect more than you did. They have each been separated from one another, so they are learning to be their own characters without each other. We're use to at least Shinobu and Quin being together. So to see them off on their own really excited me.
This story is one that I hold close to my heart - as I've already said previously - and so when a series comes to an end there is always apprehension with how it will end. This one ended perfectly and honestly in a way I didn't expect. But I loved it.
If you haven't read any of these books in this series I say start. If you have prepare yourself to say goodbye to some of the best characters we know.
Jeeeh!
4.5 Worth it! Finally a trilogy that lives up to the original potential! We get real resolution for Quin, Shinobu, John and Maud, and most importantly, find out the origins of the Seekers and the Dreads. Really original and one I can safely say I highly recommend through the whole series.
I' m glad to say that I' m finished with this serie books, because I ' m just not a fan of these books. There are not my cup of tea. I get tired of trying to image what is meant by example the energy around people , the bridge in Hongkong or the flying ship. I just don't t get it, although the writer does bescripe the way those things look like, but the discriptions are vage and boring. The positive things about this book is that there are no more lose ends, like there were in part 1 and 2. From those 3 books , this one was the best. Maybe it would have been beter to explain some things in part 1. The scène where a 2 year old todler came to her mother and said " mama mama, daddy let me hold a knife...really? I have three childeren and my youngest child is almost three but no way a todler would talk like that...a todler would have said...mammy...a knife. I didn t like the books that much, boring and a lot of the time I feld like I mist a couple of pages...But it is just my opion and not a fact..
Review to come. I feel pretty horrible that it took me this long to finally finish this series, particularly since "Seeker", the first book had a lot of potential and dialogue surrounding it but never executed in a way that made it stand out among other YA Fantasy trilogies. This was a decent conclusion, probably among the better of the series offerings if I had to wager how readily I followed events from it, but it still didn't stick with me for being a series I'd return to. I will need to refresh my memory on the previous two books before I do a deep dive into this one. But I think I'll settle with 3 stars.
I really loved the first 2 books in this series but, oh my gosh this last book was tough to get through. I started to get annoyed with every character having their own chapter pov, it started to get mundane. At one point I didn't care what other charterers thought or what they went through. I also started to get really bored with the story line & just couldn't wait for the book to just be done. It started to feel like a chore to read. Which is to bad because the first book Seeker, was amazing!
I never read a trilogy that actually got better and better . So many surprises. What an extraordinary ride this was with such rich characters: Quin, John, Shinobu, and the Young Dread! I didnt expect how things unfolded in this last book. I couldn't put it down.
I would give it a 3.5 stars. I really liked how to book wrapped everything up so nicely. I liked how the characters personalities changed from the first two books. All three had matured and were desirable characters.

*My Thoughts*
Disruptor is the third and final installment in author Arwen Elys Dayton's Seeker trilogy. If you've read the previous installments Seeker and Traveler, do go on. If not, I'll do my best not to spoil anything in my review. If I happen to put something in my review that is spoiler-y, please let me know.
I read an advanced copy and couldn't put it down. I am so sad this series has ended. I had no idea how this would end and how things would end up, genius! I fell in love with so many of the characters, the good and even the bad ones. So much happens in this book, I really think it's my favorite. A MUST READ!
Actual rating- 4 and a half out of 5 (GR really needs to do half stars. But I digress).
For me, Disruptor was the best book in the series and I know I'll miss it now. Definitely a recommendation from me. But yay for re-reads every now and then- when I have the time...
Since it only came out a couple of months ago, I know not everyone will have read it yet. So below are some of my personal highlights, without anything too spoiler-y:
- The origins of the Dreads. - John and Shinobu having to work together to save the Seekers. - Quin’s journey back to the others. - The Young Dread training the other Seekers. Plus, I just really like Maud. - Maggie being really evil in this (more than in Seeker) - and not being afraid to show it. - Dex as a new character- yes he was a little crazy, but that wasn’t his fault. The travelling between places as usual was fun. - John’s journey and progression in this book made him a lot more likeable to me than I found him in the first two books. - I really loved how all the characters have connections to each other and it comes together in this book. It’s been a really thought out world.
Many will certainly disagree ... but for me the main characters in this series of books are John and Maud. They are consistent characters since the first book. Quin and Shinobo, I don't know ... they did not have appeal... chemistry. I liked the way the author put the origin of the Seekers and Dreads. The ending was somewhat romantic, I would say honeyed, but to my liking. Anyway ... although I disliked some characters in the first book, I think the story evolved and the author redeemed herself. Well... I liked it ... hence, my note.
Disrupter is the thrilling conclusion to the Seeker series that started with Seeker and continued with Traveler. Everything comes together in this final book and it’s well worth the wait. The series starts with Quin, Shinobu and John attempting to finish their Seeker training... and learning that being a Seeker is not what they thought it would be. Instead of protecting people, righting wrongs, and avenging evil, Quin’s father has perverted the sacred Seeker training and created a team of assassins to murder other Seekers. The young Seekers revolt but cannot even trust each other. In Disruptor we learn the true history of the Seekers and the Dreads and the only way anyone can be saved is if they work together.
I loved this entire series and Disruptor is no different. It was written perfectly, alternating chapters with the different characters, slowly revealing the secrets and mysteries set up in the first book, and keeping the reader riveted the whole time.
I read the first two books in this trilogy a few years ago, tried to read the final book and could not for the life of me get through it. I picked it back up this year for the sole purpose of finishing the series and it was a hard time. Especially because I didn't remember a lot of the story line from the other books (though I also only moderately enjoyed them too). I don't really have much to say about this book/series. It was okay, but there are definitely better fantasy series out there that feel more coheiseve and rounded out. The Seeker series felt like fantasy crossed with sci-fi and a bunch of other random elements; it didn't work for me. It felt like the author was trying to do too much and couldn't just pick one genre to stick with. Also can't get behind the third cousins romance...when I read the three year time jump at the end I physically cringed.
This is an adventure filled attention grabber, the setting is based everywhere around the world, that would leave you on the edge of your seat throughout the whole book and puts you in a whole other world. It's truly an amazing book with no cons and all pros. It has an amazing plot and an even better ending. I recommend this book to adults, but mostly teenagers and the gender doesn't quite matter but I feel as if this book would appeal more towards girls, because of the fact that the main character is a girl, Quin who is confident and outgoing and not afraid of anything. But it really doesn't matter if you are a boy or girl, it will be an amazing book no matter what!
