In a world of infinite risk, the stakes have never been so high.
Beyond the pull of life and death lies the Immortal game. Edie Kramer has leaped back to put things right and save the boy she loves. Alone in the wrong timestream, she must reinvent herself and square off against dangerous Immortals determined to win this mortal match once and for all.
But righting past wrongs carries fresh dangers. As she navigates a new school and tries to put Kian on a different path, she also battles those will stop at nothing to keep her from derailing their deadly schemes. With few allies and her first love treating her like a stranger, Edie faces the most dangerous enemy of all―time itself. Yet she's come a long way from that dark night on the bridge, and when her back's to the wall, she'll go down fighting...
The conclusion of New York Times-bestselling author Ann Aguirre's Immortal Game trilogy is thrilling and unforgettable.
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Ann Aguirre has been a clown, a clerk, a savior of stray kittens, and a voice actress, not necessarily in that order. She grew up in a yellow house across from a cornfield, but now she lives in Mexico with her family. She writes all kinds of genre fiction, but she has an eternal soft spot for a happily ever after.
So this is NOT a spoiler because you can guess by the blurb on the book that Edie travels back in time to try to set things right. So, every bad person that was killed or good people that died are all alive again in this book.
Edie is going to the same school Kian went to before the shite hit the fan and he became immortal and all of that jazz. She's going to try to help him and change the future. But being in school again is not so fun, although she does meet some really cool people and helps Kian so I reckon it's all good.
By third period, everyone was calling me Nine. Which was weird, but I figured it was because of my hand, until I heard some guy say, "She's totally a nine, all good except for that missing finger. How do you think--"
His friend covered the dude's mouth when he realized I could hear. I raised my brow."The answer is, obviously, that I crammed it up somebody's ass so far that it broke off. Probably because he was objectifying me, but I forget."
Hehe, I liked that one!
Edie sort of makes Kian be her friend and gets him out of his funk and turns him into a person that has friends etc.
But, then the old immortals and such start to find her slowly but surely and want her dead again for trying to mess things up. Or they want her on their side again and blah and so forth. They can get so droll sometimes. :-D
Harbinger is back of course because they are bonded. They have this weird relationship, he's evil, but he was made to be that way by humans. He's very fond of Edie and well I just love it. I can't even say without giving out spoilers.
I love the Harbinger btw!
And ole Buzzkill is back trying to kill Edie again. I liked it better when they were on each others side for a bit. But he's still creepy and sarcastic. And Edie, Buzzkill and Harbinger have to duke it out.
"Funny how much trouble your pet gets into," Buzzkill observed. "Though from where I'm standing, you two sure play some twisted games. Jesus. And I thought I was messed up."
His arrival meant all manner of terrible things, but I still choked the urge to laugh. The killer clown had always struck me that way, all carnage and inappropriate humor. Honestly speaking, he'd made an awesome ally when I could trust him not to murder me in the most gruesome manner possible. I froze, sensing that this encounter wouldn't stop at clever repartee.
The Harbinger morphed into the appearance I'd grown accustomed to, when he wasn't pretending to be someone else. At this point, I had been exposed to his aura so much that I only shuddered in discomfort. Or maybe it ws more that his strength had been so depleted fighting into that warded warehouse that he didn't have the juice for a powerful display.
"You have an unprecedented fascination in my business," the Harbinger said.
Needless to say a fight ensues after that. . ..
I really enjoyed this last book in the trilogy. The ending was wonderful on two different levels. Edie ends up living in two different worlds but I can't tell what or why. It was just pretty awesome!
Infinite Risk is the third and final installment in author Ann Aguirre's Immortal Game Trilogy. Edie Kramer has learned some valuable lessons after making a wish on a monkey's paw. Since then, she been dealing with immortals who see humans as paws in their deadly game. While she's had some heart breaking losses to go along with the fact that she now has a weapon that can easily kill any immortal, including one Buzzkill the clown. Edie knows that she has to do something to Kian Riley before it's too late. This sends Edie to a time stream where she's actually 18 pretending to be 16.
Much better than the 2nd book! Harbinger ended up being my favorite character of the series. I had no idea where this third book would go, and how series would end. This book was different, it was about redemption, in so many ways and for more than just Edie. I have to say this is one of my favorite endings. Maybe it's an overstatement, given I wasn't very intrigued about reading the final book in series. As well as, after book two, I felt as if the story was kind of over. I had no understanding of what would, or could happen in book three. Regardless, Book 3 was my favorite by far. The Epilogue, while brief, was important to me. Very glad the author included.
“Beginnings are fun. Middles are sometimes slow, but the finish is always a pain in the ass."
Accurate. This book toyed with my heart until it broke, then threw it away. And now the series is over.... So that's great, my heart will forever remain in a trash can.
Whoa. Mind officially blown! I’m not sure how I feel right now! I just finished Ann Aguirre’s Infinite Risk, the conclusion to the Immortal Game trilogy and I’m left with a mess of emotions! Seriously, I’m a mess right now! LOL! If you’re not up to date with this trilogy, note that I will be mentioning spoilers from the previous book, so be forewarned!
Edie made the ultimate decision at the end of Public Enemies, Kian was dead, her mother was dead, her father had been kidnapped and returned a different person—metaphorically speaking, he’s still her dad—and things are just nuts and unpleasant. So Edie decides she will go back in time—honestly where she got that idea was a little lost on me, even after reading Public Enemies—and basically change the entire timeline so that Kian wouldn’t die. And she makes other changes too.
Edie knows better than to “meet” her younger self and give out dire warnings, so she goes back to before Kian would make his ultimate decision that would muck up his life. When she meets him, she nearly falls in love again. He’s still her Kian in some of his nerdy, lovable ways, but he lacks confidence. It’s almost like she’s helping herself in a way that she wished would’ve happened. But she decides she must befriend Kian and basically give him a life worth living. And so begin Edie’s path and making changes that ultimately change the world.
This book was pretty awesome! I mean the whole time travel thing was a little sketchy to start with because I couldn’t remember why Edie thought it was possible, but naturally, some things must be rolled with! Since she was only going back about five years, she had to catch herself a few times on things she said, like not wanting to mention books that haven’t been published yet and the like! It was kind of funny in some ways! I had to admit I loved watching her help shape Kian into being more confident. She wasn’t trying to change him per se, she was merely trying to get him to see life differently and to take the plunge when it came to friendships and other social interactions. Advice I sometimes wish I knew back then too! LOL!
Oddly, Edie had to prevent herself and Kian from falling in love all over again, because she knew that she couldn’t stay in this timeline that she was in. It just wouldn’t work really. Plus her younger self was still out there, and there’s a certain time when she decides to help herself very subtly. I almost missed what Edie was trying to do for her younger self, but by the end it makes sense! But yet I was still a bit confused too! Time paradoxes will do that to you!
There was quite the bit of action in this one! Namely, all Edie’s enemies from her future are basically alive and kicking in the past! So things get dicey! The only constant in this time is the Harbinger. He’s the only one who knows Edie from the future and past. As I said, some of these things get a little complicated with the whole time traveling deal, but trust me, when you’re reading it, it’s easy enough to follow. I apparently don’t remember the Harbinger well enough from the first book to truly gauge his character development, but I do remember feeling his changes coming about in the last book. And in this one, that idea is strengthen to full force!
Despite not grasping the overall flow of this series, I truly did enjoy it! This final book was amazing! Though it does leave me feeling flummoxed as Edie’s time traveling does make changes and it makes you wonder what was the point in the end? But I’m kind of ignoring that voice! The ending was superb!! And the little epilogue at the end left me with all the feels! Though again, some involved confusion with the time paradoxes! LOL! But overall, this was definitely an incredibly amazing series that was filled with a variety of relatable life lessons. I felt like I could really connect with Edie on a number of levels. I am happy with the way this one ended!
Not at all what I expected, and this final part was probably the one I enjoyed most. Edie is determined to fix her errors, so she travels back in time and ends up enrolling at the high school she recalls Kian mentioning. She goes all-out to befriend the 15 year old Kian, and to do all she can to prevent his future panning out as it did. They have a quirky friendship, and there’s no hints of their attraction in this. It was like Back to the Future with knobs on! Edie is the loner who draws people in and helps them to move on to be a better version of themselves. Unfortunately her presence in this time doesn’t go unnoticed, and the immortals of the game are determined to stop her ruining their fun. Edie ends up getting help from some unexpected quarters, but she is more determined than they give her credit for. While seeing an alternative story for Kian and Edie was rather weird, the best part of this was the relationship between Edie and the Harbinger (ranked up there with Pratchett’s Death and Lockwood’s skull as characters I most love). Not a story that could be predicted, and certainly different.
The Immortal Game trilogy is seriously one of my favorite series of all time. My love for it goes beyond words. It is literally one of the greatest pieces of writing I have ever read, and I’m sad to see it’s over.
It had been probably over a year since I’d read book two, so when I dived right into Infinite Risk I wasn’t too sure on what was going on. Yet, I managed to catch up fairly quickly. I got this gist of what happened; the only thing I struggled with was the names. I definitely remembered Edie and Kian, but I was iffy with a few others. But that didn’t really matter because this book mainly focuses on another group.
It’s book three so I’m just going to tell you what happens at the end of book two. If you’re interested in reading this trilogy, which I HIGHLY RECOMMEND, go check out my review of Mortal Danger.
BEWARE! SPOILERS AHEAD! I REPEAT, SPOILERS FOR THIS SERIES ARE AHEAD!
At the end of Public Enemies, Kian dies so Edie makes the smart decision to travel back in time to save him from ever signing the contract and becoming part of The Game. There, that’s really all you need to go going into this book. Infinite Risk starts off when Kian is a freshman in high school so he’s not really the Kian you’re used to… yet.
Edie pretty much spends the entirety of Infinite Risk to create a better future for Kian where he doesn’t join The Game. She wants to make his life better. But a big part of this book is that Edie can’t change the future so Kian’s dead in her lifetime, but she can create an alternative timeline. It’s actually really interesting to read.
Kian transforms before your eyes from a kid that never talks to anyone to actually someone who becomes pretty confident in his own skin. Kian is one of my favorite characters, so it was pretty cool to see how he was before Edie met him. There’s a lot of extremely well written character development for him which was awesome!
Edie was an 18 year old in a 15 year old’s body, so it was uncomfortable for her. Plus watching Kian and only being friends was rough. I don’t think I would be able to do it. Again, this shows just how strong she is. Fighting off immortals while protecting her first love. Plus she deals with some backlash from the time travel. (Can I just say that I was on the edge of my seat because I did not think she was going to make it?!)
The Harbinger plays a bigger role in Infinite Risk, and I honestly love him. There are so many different layers to him; it was amazing being able to see them all. I liked him in Public Enemies, but I love him now. Edie’s good for him.
I have nothing bad to say about these characters. I love each and every one of them, and I’m incredibly sad to see them go.
When it started winding down, I had no clue what would happen. The falling action didn’t seem as if it was leading to an ending. Except for the inevitable thing to Edie, but I never really accepted that as an ending. It didn’t really go to the resolution until the point where there was a few pages left. Like I said, I had no idea how Aguirre was going to end.
The ending was probably my favorite moment throughout the entire series. I absolutely loved it. Aguirre could not have chosen a better ending. I almost cried because I loved it so much. It was perfect. I loved how they talked about what happened in the alternate timeline. I have tears in my eyes whilst writing this review because it’s beautiful. I am also completely in love with how Aguirre ended Edie’s actual timeline. Perfect. There’s no other way to describe it.
Read this series just so you can read this ending. Please.
I loved this book. I cannot wait to purchase it and add it to my shelves. Speaking of which, I just bought Mortal Danger and I will be purchasing Public Enemies soon from Book Outlet. If you’ve never heard of it, they have super cheap books and shipping is low too. Go check it out.
I feel like a happy, content sigh would describe this book really well. Don’t look at me like I’m crazy, just hear me out. This series is over yet it ended in the best possible way. You get answers and aren’t left hanging. This journey is over, but they are living such amazing lives.
I can’t even right now.
I loved Infinite Risk, and I will love it for a long time after this.
As always with any series from Ann Aguirre, I get sucked in and wrecked from the astonishing plot twists she fabricates! Immortal Game's first and second instalments come close second to The Razorland Trilogy character-development wise, which is a big deal for me as TRT is my utmost favourite trilogy.
Of.
All.
Time.
Unfortunately when it comes to Infinite Risk, I felt like it dragged toward the last quarter of the book. It put me into the most intense reader's slump—as the timestamp shows that I started this book in August and just finished it in December!—Reading about Edie's, or Nine's, desolate thoughts about her situation and her boring days spent in her apartment was like walking through mud.
When comparing this final instalment to the first two books, it cedes this strange mundane vibe that oddly doesn't feel right. Somewhere along the way I lost track of Edie's goal, and I stopped feeling sorry for her. I think what I needed to see was more action from the other characters as well, and less thinking from Edie.
Overall, the entire series gets a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5 stars from me. Excuse me while I get over this book hangover and drown myself in my tears.
Ok, I can now review this whole series. I really enjoyed all 3 of these books. What a cool idea this is! Legends become real based on people believing in them......brilliant!
I really liked all the characters in this book series. It was also fun to see the characters in different timelines. Obviously, the Harbinger is one of my favorites, but I really enjoyed everything in this last book. I think I enjoyed Kian even more in book 3.
I thought the action was great in this book and in all 3 books. I'm not seeing the parts where other reviewers said the plot dragged. That never happened for me. I was just glad that I had all 3 books and I could just plow right through them. I really enjoyed this series and I will definitely be recommending it to my paranormal readers.
4.5 Bittersweet. I loved what she did. It was unexpected and totally satisfying. Though I wasn't a huge fan of the middle book, this ending to the trilogy is perfectly executed and thought out! Loved it. I couldn't put it down. I think il leave to reread it all again!
Actually, it’s more like 4 1/2. I couldn’t give it a 5 for a couple of reasons. The ending itself made it bounce up the 1/2 point because sections in the middle tended to drag. I also have to admit, the backstory of the entire trilogy is a bit of a rip-off of Neil Gaiman’s American Gods. Although I like the way Aguirre added layers to the story, the idea of Gods living as immortals in our world…..losing a lot of their power because the humans quit worshipping and sacrificing to them, is straight up Gaiman. But Aguirre also added urban legends and other mythology to the mix. I mean, where else will you find an immortal Killer Clown named Buzzsaw??
The trilogy is definitely worth a read if you like to picture time travel and multiverses, gods and legends, and a worldwide “game” that involves gods making bets and twisting humans as pawns to play. All in all, it kept me entertained and reading long into the nights. And once I started, it was hard to put down!!
Definitely my favorite book, Just hurting for kian and Eddie!
Anyone understand how the post script would turn out? I'm shook by it.
I want both kian and Harbinger.
I don't think I fell so hard for a book boyfriend in a while, then when you met 15 year old kian my heart grew even more. Its definitely not the perfect ending for them, but the post script really got my butterflies going.
On the other hand Harbinger got me falling for him, but not as hard and kian. Definitely a nice realistic aspect that you don't always end up with the first love of your life. Just sad haha.
Definitely an great series and the this book really wasn't what I was expecting. Going to miss reading this series ❣

I just love what she did with the ending to this series. So far I have loved everything I have read from this author and this series was no exception. As with time travel things got rather messed up and I really hated that she was right there with him and couldn't be with him. The new relationship was a surprise to me, but it shouldn't have been after the last book, but I just didn't see it coming. I was so surprised by the ending and then jumped up and cheered. YAY!!! I so didn't want to happen what it looked like was going to happen and it didn't! Such creative writing! She really knows how to make her readers happy. I highly recommend this series.
This book was nothing like I expected. It was a finale to a wonderful series, that I rushed through as fast as I could. It had its moments. It kept me up all night terrified, and it had me smiling trough to the end. It had me rooting for some of the “bad” guys, and booing some of the “good” guys. Overall it was an almost perfect series. My only complaint would be that the series was longer. It’s going to be sad to say goodbye to Nine, Kian, and the Harbinger. It is absolutely worthy of 6 stars.
It's been awhile since I read the first two books, so I was a little fuzzy on the details. This book did a pretty good job of bringing back the majority of them, though.
My only real complaint was there was a heck of a lot of teen romance drama instead of a focus on changing the future and saving lives. Love triangles everwhere! Though I saw the end coming, it was satisfyingly well wrapped up.
My power was out in my neighborhood today and happend to have today off so I decided to start a different book since the one I’m currently reading is on my phone... anyway, loved this series! Loved this book! I’m so happy with the ending, it worked out perfectly and was just amazing. Would definitely recommend this entire series!
