A successful businessman buys his dream house for himself and his family. He should have checked the attic - the man living up there has been there for 150 years.
This book needs a serious editing job! It was full of typos, grammatical errors and inconsistencies. The plot line is not bad, but it certainly does not qualify as a traditional ghost/horror story. It’s rather the story of a man’s struggles with his midlife crisis. The ghost is more of a moral guide, or perhaps the man’s own conscience trying to steer him right. I was distracted by so many mistakes, especially by blatant ones such as an inability on the author’s part to get the character names right. One of them was sometimes called Marsha, at other times Marty, and also Marcia. Another one was mostly called Seth, but also Joseph (I’m pretty sure Seth is not a nickname for Joseph). A real editor is badly needed to go over the whole thing with a fine toothed comb. Then, and only then, would this become a book worthy of reading.
THIS WAS THE WORST BOOK I'VE READ IN MY ENTIRE LIFE.
I don't normally write reviews, but I am doing so now to try to save anyone who is considering reading this book precious time and money. This book was ASTOUNDINGLY bad. Here's a list of bullet points explaining why:
- The outright misogyny in this book is disturbing. - The print is the size of ants and covers the pages from absolute top to bottom. - The author doesn't understand the basics of a plot or, apparently, know what contractions are. - The grammatical errors on this book are EVERY PAGE. If I would have used a highlighter to mark the errors in this book, I would have run out of highlighters. - The main character is abhorrent, and the author has no idea how to write women except to talk about how great it is when a woman is perfectly feminine, perfectly pleasant to men, and wears short, tight clothing.
The book is very evidently self-published, which isn't a bad thing, but you'd think the author would re-read what he wrote at least once to check for grammar, plot contradictions, making sure he got characters names correct (not even kidding), and has used proper spacing. It seems like he gave it one go and said, "Perfect!" and published it himself as no respectable publisher in their right mind would print such freakish piece of work. I would give the book negative stars if I was able to.
All in all, I think the author needs to go to jail immediately for crimes against literature. Do yourself a favor and stay far, far away from this monstrosity.
Very good concept for a slightly ghostly story - meaning it features a ghost, but isn't spooky in the least. This book doesn't belong in the horror category, as it's really not even about a haunted house.
This book, as it wraps up, belongs more in the religious category as when wrapping up it ends up being about faith and marriage vows and the importance of valuing family.
Being an editor, I was extremely turned off by the poor editing. The random quotation marks inserted willy nilly drove me batty, as did the overuse of the number of dots in the elipses (should only be 3, but there are anywhere from 4 to about 8), and the typos scattered throughout. All of this got a bit better in the second half of the book, so it seems either two editors were used, or only part of the book was edited. Strange that it would be the last part though.
The poor editing is the reason I didn't give five stars.
George was a wealthy businessman. He bought a three story house that he always wanted to buy. He had a lovely wife and three children. George always said that if it wasn’t for him they wouldn’t have all the things in life that were the best. He did not go to the kids events because he was always working. He paid no attention to them. In his house, on the third floor, he met a ghost. He talked to that ghost, a lot. Only George could see and hear him. George was thinking about cheating on his wife, but didn’t. His kids didn’t really have contact with him, like they should have. This story is a life lesson story.
I pride myself on finishing books I've started but this one was really difficult. It has repetitive dialog, and I kept stumbling on awkward phrasing/grammatical errors. I wanted to read a book with ghosts but I made a poor choice with this one.
Great read, I simply couldn't put it down. The protagonist has a lot of inner strife, like we all do so it was easy for me to relate to him. In many ways we all chase unimportant things, but this man is soon faced with a ghost that lives in the house and becomes his enemy and psychologist(it is certainly an interesting dynamic).
A man buys his dream home and soon believes he has everything he ever wanted. A beautiful woman at work catches his eye and soon this successful business man forgets what is important in life. A lesson is to be learned here! I like it when I felt I learned something valuable at the end.
A wonderful, unexpected read! This book really delves into the characters' minds and emotions, which I think a lot of people will be able to relate to, they're just normal people trying to better themselves and struggling with it all. You'll see someone you know in the characters. The writing and imagery is detailed without the plot getting lost in the description, as can sometimes happen. The book isn't scary, but there is some suspense and mystery. Recommend!
