MINE Part 1

Rate this book
Ashley

He’s gorgeous and wealthy and wants to take care of me – but is he even capable of love?

Ever since he left me and flew straight back to England (with no explanation at all, the douchebag), my life has been a total disaster. It’s not Luc’s fault, of course, that my mom died and my dad took off, leaving me to take care of my little brother. It’s not his fault that I have to work two shitty jobs, or that ten-year-old Ben is such a little monster he’s scared off every babysitter and might get kicked out of school, or that I’ve gotten too sick to even work.

But that doesn’t mean I want to see him ever again. For whatever reason, he left me and went back to his life of fast cars and faster women, or whatever rich British assholes like him get up to. So that’s that.

Imagine my horror when I find out he’s technically my boss – and as hard as I’ve tried to forget him, he certainly hasn’t forgotten me.

Lucian

I’ve worked hard to keep my cold heart locked away, and I won’t let anyone in – especially not the most beautiful woman I’ve ever laid eyes on.

I’ve thought about Ash for seven long years, almost wishing I could tell her the truth about what happened and fix things up between us. But I’m afraid the truth might spell the end for us, and I’m not about to let her go.

Now that I’ve found her at last, I’ve decided that she will be mine again and mine alone. I want her back in my life, in my arms, happy and healthy and taken care of. For good.

Oh, I don’t love her – I don’t love at all – but there is something about her that draws me in, intrigues me...stirs me…

Synopsis:

Imagine my horror when I find out he’s technically my boss – and as hard as I’ve tried to forget him, he certainly hasn’t forgotten me.

Lucian

My thoughts:

MINE is a three part series by Kristina Weaver.

The synopsis pretty much covers everything in book one in the MINE series. I would have given this book a single star just for the sheer absurdity this book is. A second star is for the occasional humor from the dim-witted characters and the potential this book had. Seriously, this book is a brainless muddle with no emphasis on the storyline.

What does a book need to have to make it through?

An idea

A storyline

Characters

Chemistry

A pinch of drama

A dash or more of humor

And HEA (Yeah, I’m a sucker for those)

Does this book have any of the above mentioned traits?

Answer would be a big NOOOOOO.

The idea behind this book was good enough to have a strong plot; if only the author could have done some justice to it. The story had a lot of potential but weak characters that had no chemistry whatsoever and the idea that was lost somewhere in the pages were its downfall.

So, coming to the plot..

Ashley met Lucian (again), when she fell in front of his office. She was sick; he wanted to take care of her and to be back in her life… Completely understandable. But the author’s approach to this was terrible. Ashley despised Lucian and did not want to breathe the same air as him. But did she act like it? Obviously no.
She let him take complete control of her life including moving in with him the very next day (although he blackmailed her for that, I am not counting that). They move on with their “so-called relationship”, have sex (the next day itself) and God, get married… Can you believe it? I mean the woman hated that man.

And Lucian is another story for that matter. He is a controlling, arrogant and paranoid bastard who thinks he owns the world and definitely owns Ashley. It’s ridiculous how he left her seven years back and all of a sudden he is all up for his plan on having her. Now he is all over her hoo-haa.

What was he doing till then? Sleeping? But now he wants to own her and take care of “his baby”.

Add to that, Lucian’s faulty brain wiring and it seals the deal. In the whole Book one in Mine series, he was plotting to make Ashley fall in love with him. But the moment she does, he bolts. I mean..What the crap?

I am all for romantic stories and the usual crap but puh-lease I want a touch of reality every once in a while.

The side characters in this book were more interesting than these bubbleheads.

Ms. Weaver tried to add some drama in the book but it didn’t work too well. The story felt a little rushed to me. I could not connect with the characters or their choices. I could have loved the whole alpha thing, if there was more emphasis on the character build up.

A book needs a storyline. The author needs to stick to that storyline. Characters ought to have some chemistry. Drama is supposed to heighten the interest and overall growth of the book. Readers should connect to what they are reading. MINE lacked some of the most important elements a book should have and therefore, could not do it for me.

This is so difficult... I want to give this book a higher rating because this series seriously has so much potential.... The problem, it feels rushed.. a little more narrative would have gone such a long way!
I found myself really cheering for Ashley as she was truly doing her best to raise her little brother after the death of their mom, and her step dad just bailing on them. She worked herself ragged unfortunately at the expense of her brothers feelings and emotional stability. Then, in swoops billionaire gorgeous man to save the day! (Now there is some back story here about how they met in school and he had to go back to the UK..... but honestly a little more narrative to tell their previous story and the circumstances and things that happened in between, would have made this so much more believable and would have allowed the readers to actually connect with the characters) So, this guy comes to her rescue out of seemingly no where, and is super possessive of her.. And although its supposedly been 7 years and she was so sad and torn apart about him leaving, she just literally right away moves in with him.... (Let's be real here, attraction is one thing, up and moving right on in with someone you barely know and dragging your kid brother who you are responsible for along with you... really?) Again, this could have been a great plot and could have really made the readers fall head over heels, IF there had been more of a connection drawn by giving more detail or at least giving these two characters a moment to sit down and hash out the last seven years, instead of her jumping in head first without knowing anything about him, his life, or even caring about him being ridiculously possessive... Alas, she moves in with Lucian the next day... yes THE NEXT DAY! And now belongs to him. I want to root for this couple... i WANT to love their love story, but I am left wondering if this woman has a brain because no one in their right mind would be jumping in so quickly, when they are supposed to be responsible for a child, and said child is already struggling with behavior issues and school. And so the book goes on and while I will say it is completely worth the read and does get rather intense with the cliffy at the end, go into it knowing that you will be left craving so much more from the story. I did read the rest of the series to see what happens to Ashley and her brother, but even with the other books there just wasn't enough of the characters stories told.

This did not work for me, but it may work for you.

I hate when I am told how to feel instead of allowing me to make my own assumptions. The inner dialogue was a bit weird and obnoxious.

It has been a pretty entertaining book. I am amused by Luc's possessive attitude and how he appropriated their lives. Shocking the end of this first book.

I was absolutely in love with this book and this series. Once I picked it up I could not put it down! As the series went on a few characters became near and dear to my heart. I absolutely enjoyed many parts of the first book as well as many others in the following series. I just know you will too!In MINE 1 by Kristina Weaver we meet Ashley Munro and Lucien Jasper. She's working two jobs make ends meet since her mother died and her father skipped town. He's come back just in time to watch Ashley crumble into a exhausted and sick mess.

Throughout the first book as well as through the series Ms. Weaver displays a humor that is absolutely fantastic. The snarky, quick witted comebacks that Ashley displays is fantastic. Lucien has his moments but his intense nature makes Ashley lead the way in the humor department.

After Ashley becomes extremely ill from walking to work (her second job) in the rain she is rescued by none other than her first love. I didn't catch it the first time but the name of building that her second job is working in is called The Jasper building...and the last name of her first love is, yup you guessed it, Jasper.

To quote Ashley, Lucian Jasper is an "angel". Well to her sick and fevered brain he is but in the light of a non-sick brain he is just as hot with looks that are fit for a GQ cover. He's also from England so he has the fantastic accent to boot. Last but not least he's rich. He's not dot com millionaire rich, he's old English money rich which is two completely different things. He is single minded in his determination and relentless in reaching his one true goal. To make Ashley his. Hence the name of the book, Mine.

Overall this is a fantastic read from start to finish with the subsequent series books being just as good as the first. There are some specifics that I would have like to of seen explained more in book one as well as through the series but at the end of the day all of the lose ends are tied up and all mysteries are answered. It is very well written and an enjoying read. I highly recommend it!

This book seriously blows my mind. How anyone can read this and think it's in any way romantic is beyond me. The "hero" is disgusting. The things he says is truly unbelievable. I mean the audacity of this bastard. I had to laugh because I couldn't believe what I was reading. I mean he referred to her as "his philly," and "his possestion". It was so gross. And then the "heroine" is the doormat of all time. She just blindly follows everything he says with little to no assertion of her own wants, feelings, or thoughts. He says wear this and she wears it, he says sit down and she sits, he says give your whole life and decisions over to me and she does it. And then she expresses how much she loves him. What a joke. There is nothing about this book that says romance and I see nothing of love anywhere within these pages. He says he owns her...really? This is a three part serial and I'm going to read the other two for three reason. One, there is another serial by this author that I wanted to read instead of this one but only the first part is out, so I read this one first while I wait for the other two to see if this is an author I'd be interested in continuing to explore. Two, they are super short, less than 90 pages, so I want to see if there is anything to redeem it. And three, they're free through my Amazon Unlimited subscription, so what the hell? If I had to pay though, I'd be finished after part one.

I'm not one to read romance novels with kids in them. I read to escape, I have kids I don't want to read about them.

Needless to say, I continued to read this book.

I don't get this book. She can't really stand this guy. She's been taking care of her brother on her own for 5 years. This guy is from her past, 7 years ago. He left her broken hearted.
He's kind of a jerk to her. He's bossy and demanding, which doesn't typically bother me but she doesn't like him. He's condescending to her at every turn. The only thing, from what I can tell, keeping her there is she's a virgin and wants to sleep with him. Then she thinks he's going to kick her out. So, I'm just not getting the attraction.

I'd say if she thinks he's going to make a quick exit. Like he did the last time. And she's hanging on by a threat, why would she trust him at all.

Plus, she's American. All American. Born and raised by American parents. She spent 1 year as a foreign exchange student but she talks like she's from the U.K. I was over half way through the book before I discovered she's from Chicago. They implied she was from the US but the way she talked and thought made me unsure.

Ashley Munro is a young woman with the weight of the world on her shoulders, after her mother dies her father abandons her leaving her with her 10 year old brother to look after. She struggles to make ends meet and care for her sibling, but she does the best she can... Then Lucian Jasper enters her life and the domineering Brit takes control over Ashley's and Ben's lives. He nurses Ash back to health and helps to calm Ben down and insert stability into both their lives.

But holy cliff hanger!

Anyway... Did I like this book? Meh.. Not so much. I enjoyed Ashley's fighting spirit even in illness but Lucian that's a different story. Don't get me wrong I love a sexy dominant alpha male but Lucian is not my cup of tea. He's much too dominant and the fact that he says he's not in love with ash bothered me. We get glimpses of the back story but it's not really clear why he left in the first place... Curiosity getting the better of me is making me read the next book...

I'm learning that the kind of books this author writes are very fictional. Yes they are not your common fairy tale, but it feels like a list of long wishes that will never come true on real life. "introduce here the millionaire stud that will fix all your problems". Though they are not bad, they are very fast, very superficial. I feel like with a little more narrative they can be soo much better! there's so much potential.

Loved the H, he was super obsessive and protective of the h. I was disappointed that the story never addressed why the H left the h when they were teenagers. Also, the h never asks the H about it which was strange bc that was the reason she resented him. Will definitely continue to read this series.

Mine 1 has tenets of Fifty Shades of Grey without the BDSM elements. However, you will find a very dominant alpha male who comes into the struggling virgins life at the very right time. Luc definitely comes into Ashley's life like a wrecking ball and she gives him her heart...again. The story ends in a cliffhanger and you'll need to download book 2 (part of a 3 part serial).

I liked the book and the characters. Ashley was trying really hard to hold her life together and take care of her brother after her mom dies and her dad just walks out. She is working two jobs, and gets sick on the way to her second job. After nearly passing out, she is rescued by an old boyfriend, Lucian. He ends up taking in her and her behavioral brother. But he has some ulterior motives.

Omg omg...

What the check happened. I am so into this story that the pages are flying by. I love this man's attitude. I know some people call it pushy and bossy, but I think it's so cute- the way Luc takes care of his "woman". Any woman would want to be treasured like that. BUT omg, the ending!! Blew my mind. Can't wait to start Mine2...

Wow...Lucian is a force not to be messed with. What Lucian wants, Lucian gets. Now as for Ashley, she is on the weak, wimpy and naïve side. The control that Lucian has is intoxicating and just what Ashley needs. This series is off to a great start. Starting book 2 now.

There's definitely more to this story Anson hands a cliff hanger ending! So far I'm very much enjoying it! I loved Luv and how arrogant he is one minute and sweet the next! Ashley definitely deserves to be loved and cherished

I only just found this author out so this is my first time reading this series but so far it's enjoyable. I'm now on to book two after the first book ended on a cliff hanger.
