Ava has always played it safe, but after a midnight run-in with a handsome stranger, she discovers that perhaps fortune favors the bold. Can she find the courage to seek the ultimate treasure?
Laura Sheehan grew up in Las Vegas but currently lives in Los Angeles with her husband, a thoroughly-spoiled cat, and a handful of fish who keep her thoroughly-spoiled cat entertained. When not working at her day job, she can usually be found in a dance studio, writing at her computer, snuggling with her amazing husband, or eating chocolate. Sometimes she can be found doing more than one of these at a time, although when doing so she has to be careful not to get chocolate on the computer keyboard (or on the amazing husband... although now that she thinks about it, that might not be such a bad thing).
Laura writes romantic suspense, fantasy, and paranormal romance.
Ava is being challenged to be a bit less inhibited, and she starts off with a skinny deep on an empty private beach. Turns out it's not so empty; studly Mitch lives in a guest cottage with two large Newfoundland dogs. (That may be repetitive - is there such a thing as a SMALL Newfoundland?) Sparks ensue.
Disclaimer: I am personally acquainted with the author.
Mitch provides the incentive for Ava to climb all the way out of her comfort zone - but she also has some puzzle solving skills HE needs. Nancy Drew book knowledge comes in as a bonus.
I have a thing for fortune tellers. That is... the ones who make predictions in romance novels. It's the ultimate romance isn't it? A connection two people can't deny or escape—a love that is destined to be no matter what. Fortune teller romances are hard to find, and I'm glad I found my way here because this is a good one. This little novella is from an anthology that can't be found anymore, so I'm just lucky Ms. Sheehan has released it again.
This is an unusual story. Plenty is packed into these 84 pages—the predictions, the meet cute, the developing connection between the well defined characters, the cute Nancy Drew mystery, and the resolution. Ms. Sheehan expertly walked us through the evolution of this relationship so that it was fully believable and engaging. I was thoroughly entertained from beginning to end.
So, unless this author is writing under another pen name, it doesn't appear that other works by her are available, which is a real shame because I'd love to read more of her stuff. I think she's really talented and I will be following her just in case something else shows up. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys steamy, cute, mysterious stories with a hint of fate thrown in. Random combination I know, but that's what makes it so great.
This delightful well-written novella is sweet, funny, and has a couple of well done erotic scene. It also has a treasure hunt and a mystery. Ava is a lawyer who doesn't take chances - in life or in love. But one summer night at a carnival, her best friend makes her promise to do something spontaneous before the night is over. And she does. She visits the Carnival's fortune teller, whose words send her on an adventure she could never have imagined. I loved it.
