Okay, but...

This was an okay story, the first I've read by this author. There were a couple of things that bothered me about it, first and foremost being that the hero is basically a jerk. In the opening scene he insults the heroine in several ways. He implies that she has no business being at such a prestigious, invitation-only event and then says that he's never heard of her new company, but admits in his thoughts that he'd pulled strings to get her brother to get her an invitation, all apparently because he overheard two players make remarks about her and her more attractive partner. He insults her business acumen and her looks, then makes a "deal" that he'll give her a makeover in return for a photo shoot. I don't buy that she would turn herself over to a baseball player for a makeover. Then at the makeover, he realizes she's a knock out and suddenly begins to pursue her. There were also some continuity issues with how much or how little her agency was doing for him--on the one hand it mentioned her setting him up for multiple interviews and that he was a natural and didn't need coaching, but then it seems as though all she arranged was the photo shoot, where she was, again, made to seem less than business-like when the photographer changes things up without her knowledge or approval. I also don't buy that they could sneak into a major league ballpark, turning on stadium lights and having sex on the pitcher's mound, without a security guard or anyone being the wiser.

I received this book for free from the author as an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Review may contain spoilers.

This book was different from Gatta's Honeybrook Love, Inc. series. But most definitely not in a bad way! It also had its similarities: the characters were well fleshed out and real, there was some humor involved, there was a HEA ending with no cliffhanger, and more. The big differences are in the plot and characters. And I'm sure you're thinking, "well, duh" right now, but let me explain. The Honeybrook Love series was centered around the dating agency. The agency played some role in all of the books. While each of the three books were vastly different from each other, it provided a central structure for which to play off. Since this is the first book in the series I can only postulate, but, considering the series title, I think it'll probably revolve around the Archer family (and probably sports/baseball - but that's not as clear, considering Derrick's current ocupation). The characters in the Honeybrook Love series and those in the Archer Family series are situated in completely different contexts. In the prior, they were in the northeast, near and in the city. In the latter, we find ourselves in and around San Diego, CA. That in and of itself dictates differences between the series (I mean, people do not live the same way in a chilly environment surrounded by concrete structures as they do where the weather is balmy and the beach is calling). Additionally, Honeybrook Love takes place in the corporate world whereas it appears the Archer Family series might deal more in the sports world (not to say that isn't a business, it just involves less sitting in a cubicle with a suit and tie for many parties involved). Again, this dictates a difference in the series and the characters' way of living.

Andy is a woman raised by men and not entirely comfortable in her femininity. She is much more comfortable in poorly-fitting, unfashionable clothes than she is in a simple dress. This is something Logan takes it upon himself to rectify. Logan is a headstrong, cocky, self-assured man. He is sexy and he knows it. He's had huge success in his baseball career. He went from being the big man on campus in college to a MLB heart-throb. He was the man she idolized, she was the wallflower he barely noticed. Their romance is an enjoyable one. Definitely one of the "she's been right in front of me all along" themes. It was sweet that he wished he would've noticed her sooner, but we have to remember, had they started dating in college, would they still be together now? Maybe they would've been too young and broken up? Regardless, it is gratifying to watch Logan realize what he'd been missing all that time. While wanting to go back and do things differently isn't possible, it's a really sweet sentiment and it feels real coming from Logan. My only qualm is that of Andy, it is not clear if he realizes he's loved her all along or that he only loved her after her makeover. While I certainly hope it's the prior and I think it might be, the book doesn't make it entirely clear. It's a doubt Andy had that was never really resolved. Overall, excellent book. Join Logan on his journey as he slowly wakes up to realize he's been an idiot. As I said before, there is no cliffhanger, so this can be read as a stand alone novel. I would recommend this book to any romance lover (as I would with any of Gatta's novels). Enjoy!

Logan is a sexy, star baseball player who has no trouble getting anything he wants--including the girls. We first meet Logan and Matt while attending college. Andy is Matt's younger sister. Andy was raised primarily by her dad and older brothers. She is a tomboy to end all tomboys. She is more comfortable in sweats and Reebox, than dresses and heals. While in college, Logan invites Andy to a Frat party, while also inviting her brother. Logan and Matt are best friends. Andy decides to attend the party only to be humiliated when she realizes Logan invited her because of her brother--not as his date.

Fast forward several years....Logan and Matt are in the Pros when Logan accidentally steps on Matt's wrist during a game and breaks it. Logan is bogged down with guilt that he may have ended his best friend's career. His game begins to suffer. Matt goes through rehab, only to be re-injured. In the meantime, Andy is trying to build their business as representative/managers to athletes.

Logan believes he'd feel less guilty about injuring Matt if he helps "transform" Andy. What he doesn't count on, is her being so gorgeous after her makeover. He didn't realize what was in front of him all this time. Meanwhile, Andy has had a secret crush on Logan since their college days. They become closer, but when Matt suffers a setback in his recovery Logan says a bunch of mean, hateful things to drive Andy away.

I loved this novel. Allison Gatta is a new author for me and I absolutely loved her writing! I can't wait to read the next book in this series. This novel ends with a HEA and NO cliffhanger! Yay!!!

I got a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. This is a short romantic story of geeky college girl who's in love with her brother Matt's hotshot bestfriend who thinks of her as a sister. Or so she thinks. This book contains only ten chapters but the author managed to squeeze in a funny, romantic, cute story.
It started back in college when Andy was a freshman. She was invited by her longtime crush, Logan, her brother's bestfriend, to a 90s themed party. By inviting her, Andy thought Logan also felt something for her. But a few minutes after the party, he became "busy" with his current girlfriend.Fast forward seven years after that incident, Andy just started her own business as a sports agent with her business partner Shay. She then met Logan in a sports invite-only party. After hearing that her agency is quite new, Logan offered to help her in the looks department including clothes and shoes and the works to help her attract clients for her agency. All of it in exchange for his publicity. The deal was sealed and so it goes... now read on to follow their story :)

How long does being his best friend's little sister make her off limits?
Andy was always the little sister tom boy tag-a-long. Logan and she played, teased and spent time together with her brother. Then they grew up. The guys went to the majors and she started her own sports related business.
Andy had drooled over Logan for all those years, never letting him know. She'd been raised “with the boys” and still hid her assets going for comfort rather than fashion. A dare, a bargain, a shopping trip changed all that! Little sis suddenly grew up into a woman, a gorgeous woman.
You will chuckle at Andy and her “make over” and get ticked off at guys being guys, soften when they wake up to reality and suffer their inner pain with them. I enjoyed this one. Ms Gatta makes us wonder if the characters deserve love, then shows us why and makes us cheer them on and on. She gives some steam, some character growth and a good story line.
Bring on the next one:

Not bad, not great

The heroine was a little too easily pushed around to believably be a sports agent. If she had the connections to set up photo shoots and interviews that were so positive for Logan, why was she so star-struck by the first celeb sports start she came in contact with at the first party?

Also, if Shay was her business partner, even if the heroine (I can't even remember her name) was the business end, Shay's sense of style would have/should have made h more professionally presentable.

So, while the longing for best friend is a plot device I love, the heroine just wasn't a character I felt like I could believe was real -or even someone to root for.

And, by the way, Logan was an idiot for only wanting her after he changed her wardrobe and made her all beautiful and womanly.

I'm all for the fun, 'here, let's do the hair and dress thing,' but for a single event, not a lifestyle. Not unless the girl asks specifically for that kind of thing. But that's me. I may have craptastic self esteem at points, but the way this was approached bothered me.

Anyway. 3 stars because I was intrigued enough to finish the book. I probably won't read anything else by this author, though.

I don't know what this mess was, but there were SOOOOO many issues here. Why did Andy think it was ok and what she wanted that Logan finally paid attention to her because she didn't look like a bum anymore? She needed more self esteem and should have instantly NOT wanted him with that quick 180 he did. Plus, where were the rest of the people in her life? Why didn't ANYONE - say her friend Shay - attempt to help her with her fashion choices? What kind of best friend was she?

And Andy was FAR too sensitive. She got invited to a frat party (insert blank stare here), A FRAT PARTY!!!??? Why she would think she was anyone's date when he went through the restaurant and invited anyone with a pulse is beyond me. She's kind of an idiot.

There were SO many half stories going on and nothing every really gotten into in any depth. And don't get me started on the whole baseball field thing. Really?? Ugh...

I bet the whole ugly duckling thing going on in this book. But what annoyed me was that her brothers friend took her shopping and helped her with a makeover because she actually had a close friend she’d known forever, so why didn’t that friend intervene with the clothing choices and helped her find the confidences to see herself in a new light..and when she puts on a dress she’s suddenly gorgeous and know he sees her as a potential lover / girlfriend. The story was short but although some thing annoyed me, it had its moments.

She should have knocked him on his ass

I loath the hero magically seeing the girl as a beautiful woman after her makeover. As if a little makeup and wardrobe change can transform a self conscious disaster into a poised princess. The physical isn't important a woman can be sexy and confident at any age or weight. It is a belief in one's own appeal that can't be purchased or manipulated.

A loose spin-off of 'Pretty Woman' with the man being more of a heel than the character played by Richard Gere. The entire story was shallow and the editing lacking, but there was one great and graphic love scene under the lights. After which, she could see the stars in the night sky. Doubtful. Overall, it came off light and fluffy and passed the time.

Meh. No rating cause I didn't get very far in before stopping. Normally I like the little sister/brothers best friend romance but basically Logan seems like a jerk and so her crush can only be about looks and Andy herself comes across as annoyingly pathetic and insecure. More understandable if she was in HS or it was at the time of the prologue (her freshman year of college). But she is an adult - graduate from college and starting her own business.

All’s fair in baseballs?

So they say... but not in love. What happens when childhood friends grow up to bean up an coming baseball star and his PR REP, and along the way, she’d always been in love with him but she was just one of the guys until he suddenly
sees the woman that has always been hidden under the jeans and T-shirts. Wowza!

Really superficial

I liked it BUT it was very superficial. No way just changing her clothes could change her appearance that much. I wish he could have loved her without changing her.

Ahh love.

Tomboy girl meets her kryptonite. When a girl is raised in a all male household, she doesn't see herself to be feminine. But the right person can bring all the female in her out. A delightful experience. Do read it is very well written.

I think one sentence about three quarters of the way through the novel will tell you everything you need to know about this book:

"Good God, not only did this man have the abs of an Olympian and the face of a Hollister model, but he also had ten more inches to offer than she'd known before."

Forgiveness

Such a heartwarming tale of two best friends and a tag along sister. Best friends make it to the major league. One seriously gets injured by the other. Forgiveness is a powerful thing. But can one forgive himself.

Omg read this book!

I read this in one day, it reminded me so much of my high school self. I can't wait to read the other books in the series. I love how they found love and Andy saw how beautiful she is and realized she is worthy of everything her heart desires.

Sweet

A nice, Sunday afternoon shorty to get utterly lost in 😳 I was expecting another reason why Logan felt so bad, but there wasn't. Still, good story

This book was a good read, if you like the from tomboy to bombshell type. I really wished Andy could have confronted Logan at the party instead of just leaving.

Easy reading

Potentially a great saga, all baseball sex addicts will love this surprising love story. I'd give it four but hated heroine lack of self esteem.
