AWESOME! Returning to these characters was like meeting old friends again! I'm so happy that the ranger gets his story! I absolutely LOVE how Mary writes, and the action scenes?...EXCELLENTLY done! All of my favorite characters come together again to fight side by side against yet another bothersome villain! And boy is this guy a piece of work?! I LOVE how Mary gives us a look at where all of these well loved characters have ended up after their stories, bringing in families and remembering to even tell us about sub characters outcomes! This is one of my favorite stories and one of my all time favorite series! I highly, HIGHLY recommend it all!

*I requested and received this book in a collection from Bethany House for the purpose of reviewing it. This in no way affected my opinion and the above are my true thoughts and feelings about Runaway Bride. ~ASC
This was a well written and entertaining Christian romantic suspense novella with great characters. I enjoyed meeting Audra Kincaid's younger sister and brother. Watching Carrie and John fall in love and deny it the whole time was hilarious. It was a great addition to the Kincaid Brides series although it definitely proved to me that I needed to read the Trouble in Texas series because there were a lot of characters who the protagonists were introduced to that I didn't know at all and that I wanted to.
Great read, and it was awesome how she tied the Kindcaid Brides Series and the Trouble In Texas series and got readers caught up on the characters in those books
Mary Connealy's books are a treasure! She writes Christian Cowboy Comedies and she does it very well. Such a dry sense of humor this woman has. I never miss one of her books and this novella is wonderful. We get to meet back up with the Regulators in Broken Wheel, Texas. This is Big John Conroy's story. I just loved seeing all these familiar faces again! That was one of Mary's best series, in my opinion.
Loved every minute of it and I think you will, too.
I felt that the purpose of this story was to give the readers a curtain call of sorts, bringing back a multitude of characters from two series for one final bow. Not a bad thing for devoted fans, and I do enjoy Mary Connealy (I think it's incredible the way she connected so many stories), but it left the actual plot rather shallow.
Beautiful story and wonderful way to complete the Trouble in Texas/The Kincaid Brides Series. I was so excited when I heard this was Big John's story. And to pair him up with Audra Kincaid's sister? Brilliant! I could barely put it down and was sad to see the ending, even though the ending was very sweet.
Wow! What a tale! Wonderful, fast-paced tale of escape from a cruel father willing to marry his daughter off to settle his gambling debts, while training his son to be just like him. The 2 siblings sneak off in the dead of night only to run into a Texas Ranger sent to help them make their escape. Their escape quickly turns far more dangerous than they could possibly imagine, but along the way John & Carrie find themselves drawn to each other. Luckily Big John's friends have some ideas concerning Carrie's safety.
Originally released in the book With THIS Ring? – A Historical Romance 4 Novella Collection but also available as a separate download. Gifted by a friend. My opinion is my own.
Some of the sentence structures were very repetitive. At times because of the format of the sentences it was hard to follow and understand what the author was trying to say. Also, there were soooo many secondary characters! If just John’s four main friends were introduced and their wives I feel that would have been plenty. But there were also in-laws, friends of in-laws, and mentions of random grandparents. Finally I just stopped paying attention to any character other that the three main ones and the villain. I assume all the other characters have their own novels which is why they are mentioned. Maybe if I had read the other novels with those secondary characters first it would have been easier to keep everyone straight.
When I added this to my to-read shelf months and months ago, I only knew I wanted to read it because it had Big John Conroy as the hero, from the Trouble in Texas series. I was completely and pleasantly surprised to find out that Audra Kincaid's sister was the heroine. It was extra special because I've just re-read the Kincaid Brides series.
I thought this story was just right, no more and no less than I expected, really. It's unfortunate that large families have to live so far apart from each other, but such was and is life.
I really enjoyed this novella and first read by Mary Connealy. A story of a young woman being forced into a marriage with really a gangster to pay off her father's gambling debt and her escape with her younger brother into the arms of a Texas Ranger sent to rescue her from her fate. The story built from the ground up into a great ending that made me want to read the other books in her Kincaid Brides series and Trouble in Texas series. She did a marvelous job introducing you to the characters and their comradery.
The story starts out with Carrie and her brother on the run. Her father lost at gambling and he promised her hand in marriage to a very bad man. Her sister in Colorado had reached out to her family by marriage to rescue her. They didn't realize that she was running away and bringing her brother with her. As they run, they are being hunted by the horrible man she was promised to. They come up with a plan and after implementing it, they wait.
This story moved really fast and keeps you wanting to see what is going to happen next. It's very well written and kept me involved throughout the story. I highly recommend this book to anyone who lives mail order bride books or historical western romances with a touch of intrigue.
I wanted to make sure I remembered that I read this story! I have almost finished the Kincaid brides and now I'm starting to look forward to reading the Trouble in Texas stories. It was great to read what happened to Carrie and how she escaped her father's unpleasant future for her and came to be together with a Texas Ranger. good story.
It was nice reading about familiar characters. I really enjoyed Runaway Bride and like all the books I've read from Mary Connealy's, it was very entertaining, adventurous and just fun to read. I recommend this novella to all fans of The Kincaid Brides and Trouble in Texas series.
Mary Connealy has knack for tying all her books to each other. I loved this novella, simply for that fact. It can stand on its own for sure, but having read most of her other books I was already aware of most of the characters. Really enjoyed this one.
From buying Runaway Bride. What a delightful story filled with romance and adventure. A great read for a sleepy Sunday afternoon. Loved this novella. A great segue into the Kincaid series.
I felt that this book was too short. I was able to read the entire book in about 3 hours. I also thought that there could have been more character development as well as some exploration of the history of the characters...who are they and what motivates their decisions.
TERRIFIC!!! I couldn't help but laugh! The story was gripping and even though I haven't read the other books in the series for years I wasn't lost. The right amount of action, humor and inspiration for a quick read.
I love these stories of adventure, family loyalty, and love! The women are strong and courageous and I so appreciate the Christian values and wholesome and honorable depiction of love-
Story draws you in quickly and if you love a good Christian romance, then this one is for you! Definitely a great sub book to the Kincaid family of stories.
I love reading books by Mary Connealy. Her characters are lively and believable. This story melds right into her Kincaid Brides stories and wraps up some things.
