What is especially unique about this book is that it is filled with information and vivid color reconstruction of daily life in the days of the old West. The illustrations, captions and text show what life was like in and around the frontier forts of the old West. Moreover, the book offers details as to how Fort Laramie was constructed along the Oregon Trail and it also follows an average day for a soldier at the fort and the reader can also get a glimpse into what a woman’s day was like in a pioneer’s cabin. A few excerpts can be read and shared with students to provide students with a glimpse of what life is like for those that lived on the Frontier in this period in time.
