Former television meteorologist Sabrina Salter’s new life in paradise was idyllic, sprinkled with new friendships, romance and a successful villa rental business, which just landed Villa Nirvana, the newest and most opulent villa in the Virgin Islands. But island life isn’t all sun and sand.
During the villa’s opening weekend, Sabrina discovers the body of a bride murdered on the eve of her wedding to the villa owner. The case gives the police a new reason to scrutinize Sabrina and her business, which they suggest provides inadequate security for its guests and should lose its license. Unless Sabrina can show the bride’s murder was unrelated to her or her business, her life on St. John will be over before sundown.
In order to clear her name and salvage her business, Sabrina dives into the deep end of an investigation riddled with infidelity, fraud, identity theft, and conspiracy in Permanent Sunset , the second in C. Michele Dorsey's riveting mystery series.
C. Michele Dorsey began her professional life as a registered nurse, moving on to become a lawyer, mediator and adjunct professor of law. Always an enthusiastic reader, Michele longed to tell stories of her own. Joining a writing group and professional writers' organizations (SINC and MWA) provided her with the encouragement and support to write six different novels. Three were finalists in the St Martin Malice Domestic contest. In the same month Michele turned 65, she signed her first publishing contract with Crooked Lane Books for her debut mystery, No Virgin Island (August 2015), which is set in St. John, USVI. Michele is currently writing the second book in the series featuring Sabrina Salter.
Winning the book, Permanent Sunset: A Sabrina Salter Mystery, on Goodreads, gave me a chance to try a mystery by C. Michele Dorsey. Her book takes place on the island of St. John in the Virgin Islands. Sabrina Salter and her friend--Henry run a villa rental business. Before she gets the chance to supervise an expensive wedding, Sabrina ends up discovering the bride's dead body in the water nearby. Sabrina is insistent that the murder had nothing to do with her business. The possible suspects include the interesting members of the groom's family. As we learn more about them, we discover lies, secrets, infidelity, identity theft, and fraud. The story was entertaining and full of surprises. It kept me interested until the end. The secondary stories of Sabrina and Henry's personal lives added insight into their personalities. This is the second book in this mystery series. It'll be fun to learn more about Sabrina in future installments!
Sabrina and Henry have taken on a new villa, and the first event at this villa is a big wedding that they are helping coordinate. However, when family strife turns to murder of the bride-to-be, Sabrina finds herself once again playing detective to prove that she isn’t negligent in the murder of another customer.
I enjoyed the first in this series only a couple of months ago, so the characters were still fresh in my mind. It was absolutely wonderful to be back in their presence. The new cast are just as strong, and the conflict they provide keeps the pages turning until we reach the logical end. I read the book in two days, I just couldn’t put it down.
This is a Goodreads win review. This is an excellent mystery book about and television lady who moves to the Virgin Islands but she finds a body of a dead bride. She has to solve the case or her business could be done.
“PERMANENT SUNSET” IS ANOTHER ENJOYABLE MYSTERY NOVEL ON St. JOHN ISLAND.
(Verified Individual Kindle Purchase) FIVE SLEUTHY Stars. Picking up several months after the Carter Johnson matter In C. Michele Dorsey’s original Sabrina Salter mystery entitled “No Virgin Island”, the second novel in the series is “Permanent Sunset” and it is situated again on the island of St. John in the Caribbean. It kicks off with Sabrina having been convinced by Henry to take on an additional luxury condo, “Villa Nirvana”, against her better judgement. And they host an upscale wedding to help in advertising their newest responsibility. But things are about to get very crazy for Sabrina and all concerned, leading to as good a mystery as the original, with twists and turns, lots of suspects, and a surprise ending. Dorsey interjects enough information to bring the reader up to date on recurring characters, like Neil Perry and ‘Girlfriend’ the dog, as well as the details of Sabrina’s tragic past. Dorsey has given us an impressive, strong, somewhat vulnerable, and sleuthy protagonist in Sabrina, an interesting group of recurring characters, and some hidden evil characters amid the innocent ones. Highly Recommended. Five SURPRISING Stars. Kindle. 272 pages. (There are 2 more books in the Sabrina Salter St. John Island Mysteries)
This was a great mystery. Even better than her first one. Can't wait for another one. The descriptions of the island of St John is transcendent in that I felt I was there and could feel the breezes, smell the air and the food and especially the flowers. Ms. Dorsey does not over describe or minimize the scenes so that you feel involved and interested in finding clues and answers with Sabrina. LOVED IT!!! At only 264 pages--it's just right for a rainy weekend or snowed in weekend. Also get from your local library or ask if they can request it from other libraries in the area-it is called Link plus in the Bay Area.
- Very well written – language, phrasing, pace. - Both the physical and social descriptions of St. John are spot-on. - Intriguing plot and characters, especially Sabrina’s and Henry’s back-stories. And some truly funny secondary characters (you’ll know who I’m talking about !) - I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book; and after how good the first book was, I'm sorry that it took me so long to do so.
favorite quotes: “she had grown up next to a diner where bacon was considered medicinal” “living on an island doesn’t mean you get to go to the beach every day” [so true] [she] “had learned that when your own mother deserts you, you get your mothering where you can”
Against her better judgment Sabrina and her partner Henry take on the management of another villa on St John. The plans for a lavish wedding are ruined when the bride turns up missing, then dead. The wealthy family members are all suspects , but Sabrina’s own past keeps cropping up. An excellent adventure in paradise
Love St. John as it’s our families preferred travel location. Reading these stories teleport you right there. I love the suspense and the turns that although you feel you might know how the story will end, it never ends that way. The stories are perfectly fulfilling and worth a read. Bravo c Michele Dorsey!
Another winner for Dorsey with this satisfying installment of her series. The story is complex and fast paced, with plenty of red herrings, and a deepening development of the recurring characters. I once again enjoyed the author's descriptions of island life and the drama of the plot. I look forward to the third book.
I got a chance to read Permanent Sunset by C. Michele Dorsey by winning a copy from Kings River Life. Her book, the second in this series, takes place on the island of St. John where Sabrina and Henry run a villa rental business. They have recently added another villa and the first event to take place is an elaborate wedding. Things quickly go awry when Sabrina finds the bride's dead body in the water the morning the wedding was to take place. Unexpected plot twists and great dialog keep you guessing until the very last page. I enjoyed all the characters and the ending was not what I expected. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author.

I really enjoyed this book which I was lucky enough to win through goodreads give-away. I have never previously read or heard about this author but will definitely keep an eye out for upcoming books. I recommend this book for anyone who wants to read mysteries with a little bit of romance thrown in. The description of St John definitely makes you want to go there.
VERY GOOD. Better than I expected. I was also able to finish it quickly because it was such a weekend type of read. I enjoyed all the characters and the revelation at the ending was definitely not what I expected! I hope this author will continue to add more books to this series.
Murder of the week in St. John with Sabrina Salter and her pals.
Fast paced, interesting, light summer mystery with enjoyable characters. Good beach book for folks who are familiar with St. John or who like murder mysteries.
