Ethan Artair lived his life happily in Willow Creek. Living among shifters, he was able to live free and allow his bear to do the same. Everything changed, the day a reporter came to his little town and made everyone’s life a living hell. As mayor, he had no choice but take a human wife to disprove the reporter’s claim that no outsiders are allowed their town. Disgust filled Ethan when he met his new wife, but his disgust quickly changed to something he never thought he could feel for a human, lust.

Amelia Calder is forced to live with the scars of her parents’ death. While growing up in foster care, her only desire was to see her younger sister be happy. Knowing her minimum wage job would never be enough to care for her sister, she made the only choice she could. She decided to move to a town she had never heard of and marry a man she had never met. Fear filled Amelia when she finally met her new husband, but her fear quickly changed to something else, something she's never felt before, lust.

Can lust turn into love, between a human and a bear shifter?

Ethan isn't just the mayor of Willow Creek, he's the leader of the shifter community that lives there. The small town became known to the outside world when a reporter decided to do a story on the secluded town, questioning why outsiders aren't welcome. To get the reporter to leave them alone they come up with a plan - marry an outsider, and show the world that others are welcome.

Amelia works two jobs to support her and her younger sister, who's still in foster care. When she comes across a mail order bride site she decides that getting married is the best way to help her sister when she ages out of the system. She sure wasn't expecting for her husband to be a good looking, bear of a man.

I've never read a book with a plot like this so when I read this blurb I needed to get my hands on this book right away. I liked the strangeness of a story about a mail order bride, and I certainly wasn't disappointed when I went looking for a unique book.

The book is a fast and sexy read, so we didn't get too much into the shifter world. I didn't have a problem with not being told the exact details of how these shifters worked, since most PNR books have different facts about them, but what we did get was really interesting. I liked Ethan's character, he was so sexy and Alpha! Amelia was okay but she wasn't anything great, for me.

Overall, a good, short and sexy story. I really enjoyed this one, but I do wish that it was a little longer. There were a few things that I think needed more time in the book to focus on, instead they just happened super fast. If you're looking for a hot read, this is your book!

Contains Spoilers! !

3.25 stars! Quick Instalove read! This was a good read. But for some reason at times I couldn't connect. lol Some hot sexy times. I liked both hero and heroine. hero was all alpha! I will read next book:)

safety: heroine was a virgin (of course)lol. Hero's past wasn't mention much at all. I don't know if he was a manwhore or when is this last time he had sex. we just know he is not a virgin. two things bothered me a bit. seriously this is me being picky, One being when he was kissing heroine he says she tasted very different from other women he had tasted. Yeah don't need the visual... Other being when he told heroine that he wanted to take her behind he told her don't worry I'll make you feel good, it will be and feel the best experience you have ever felt. that just makes me wonder has he done this before and if so how many times. haha. Really though he was wonderful besides those two comments. I liked him. there is ow who doesn't like the fact that he is going to marry a human. she has always wanted him. he can't stand her and never did anything with her, she tries to cause drama but it is handled. I only wish heroine allowed the punishment she deserved. lol another time they go to eat and a hostess is obviously very friendly with hero. hero has been the several times before .heroine gets jealous thinking maybe they hooked up. hero right away tells her no! I would say this is a pretty safe read. there is no one else.

☆ I received an ARC via The Hype PR in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!! ☆

3.5-3.75 stars!!

This moves at a really fast although the two main characters don't meet till the 30-40% line. It's easy to read, easy to get into, but sadly it finishes sooner than you can blink. I mean, wow, I wanted, MORE quite frankly and wanted to see more character progress and development between Ethan and Amelia. It felt very short and rushed.

For Ethan, who is a bear shifter and the leader/mayor of Willow Creek, his small town is placed in jeopardy after a reporter threatens to unravel it. To placate the situation, he (reluctantly) orders for male and female shifters to integrate themselves and find a human mate, him being the first.

From there, he meets Amelia, a girl trying to escape a broken homelife, while working herself to the bone with two dead end jobs and trying to keep her and her family structure of her and her younger sister intact.

Amelia, does not know what to expect when she signs up to be an online bride and gets selected by Ethan. She knows nothing of shifters, nothing of their ways or their mating tendencies, nor of what she's about to be be brought into in the town of Willow Creek.

But, like Ethan, something sparks in her after their first meeting and for Ethan a primal urge to claim, cherish, and protect.

For all those who love paranormal romances, this one is for you. You'll definitely eat up every single bit of it.

I really can't wait for the next book in this series, as it looks to be on Ethan's second in command and a gamechanger that personally I did see coming but still surprised me nonetheless. Can that other girl that Amelia saw in the ad as a bride get a HEA as well? For some reason I just formed a soft spot for her and really would like to see her involved in this shifter goodness as well.

Anyway, see you all for bk2!

It was okay for a quick read. I think it had the potential to be a pretty decent story with a little more fleshing out. I would have liked to see more characters in the town and how things ran being an all shifter community. Maybe we'll get some of that in future stories. It definitely had some hot moments.

I have to say, I was very aggravated in the beginning with Ethan's attitude as much as Eli's. Their attitude sucked. And, the whole thing of if they accept/marry someone NOT their true mate, they would be "lonely" (their word, not mine) the rest of their lives and basically wither away?....I realize they are basically settling for someone else who is not their mate, but it was made to sound like it would be a miserable existence....so why bother? I didn't quite get it. Ethan was going to basically "take one for the team". If I hadn't know Amelia was going to be Ethan's mate, I would have felt sorry for her after all that talk about being with someone not their mate. I can't imagine anything worse than being in a permanent relationship with someone and not having the feelings returned or running the risk that the true mate would show up and you would lose the person you've come to love. Anyway, all that talk depressed me...

I am interested in reading Eli and Liza's story. Hopefully, it will have a little more "oomph".

If I'm being totally honest I was first drawn to Rough based on the cover and title alone... And once I read the blurb? I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book! For the most part I really enjoyed this one but it wasn't exactly love like I was expecting it to be.

Ethan and Amelia are both in a situation where marriage can help them out... Ethan because he has to keep his shifter town safe from discovery and Amelia because she needs to have a place for her and her sister to live when her sister turns 18... And it's by luck alone that they both happen to find the mail order bride website that'll put them on the path to finding each other.

Of course they both have their reservations but it's lust at first sight and let me tell you... Ethan's growly "mine" as soon as he sees her?! Smoking hot!! And the bathroom scene seconds later? Even hotter! Personally, I need erotic shifter romance like I need my next breath and Rough did not disappoint in that regard but if you're looking for a book with more story and less sexy times you might wanna skip this one... Of course that's just my two cents!

I really liked Ethan and Amelia and being a huge fan of insta-love, Rough was right up my alley. My issue with this book comes from the writing alone. I had a hard time looking past a few things which made really getting into the story a little difficult... I think if I could have connected with the writing a little more or I could look past the grammar that was driving me crazy, Rough could have been a four star read for me.

That said, I will definitely be checking out the next book in this series as well as other books from these authors!

I liked Ethan, he’s a hot bear shifter mayor who had to find a human wife so that a reporter will stop digging into the secret shifter community. He signed up for an online mail-order agency and he found the profile of the heroine which intrigued him and made him pick her for his bride. Upon their first meeting, he realized she is his destined mate but she doesn’t know anything about shifters and some shifter also opposed the mating.

Overall, the writing is ok and the dialogue is snappy. Has some cheesy parts but to be expected with shifter fated mates

If you're into instant-lust paranormal romance, then go for it.

This book began with marriage of convenience: H had to marry a human because a reporter said their town accepted no outsiders. h chose to find a husband for money because she had to work two jobs for giving her sister a better life but still couldn't afford a descent apartment. When they met, the chemistry was so hot that they couldn't keep their hands off each other.

3 stars but only because its too short!

Warning: A rant is about to happen.

I loved this book! Loved the story, the heroine, the hero, the town, the sex, the supporting characters... EVERYTHING! But goddammit this was too short! If the authors would have give me... I dont know.. 50 more pages? Most likely it would have gone up to 4 stars. 100 more pages? It would have been a 5 star read. It ended too quick!

I get that it's a novella but when you are writing a good shifter story why stop the story short when it could be a GREAT full length (200+ pages) shifter story?!

So much more could have been written in the second half the book. SO. MUCH. MORE. There was no reason to stop writing. When I looked at my Kindle and saw that I had less than an hour left I was mad and flabbergasted and in denial. Surely this book wouldn't end that quickly?! Oh, but it did. And I was left feeling sad. I was left feeling like I missed so many parts of the story.

So I beg Emily Minton & Julia Keith to give me a FULL length AMAZING shifter story because I KNOW they are completely capable. Of course, I will continue to read the remaining novellas they have written and will write in the future, but I will always be on the lookout for the full length amazing read. :)

End rant.

Ethan is the mayor of Willow Creek. It means more to his shifter community then being a mayor, he is their leader. He has decided to take a human as a wife so he can show the world that they welcome outsiders in their town. He is loathed by the idea because now he will never find his destined mate. Unbeknownst to him, the woman he has chosen is his mate. How will she react when she finds out that he can shift as a bear? Just read and see, trust me, you'll enjoy it just as much as I did.

Call me old fashioned but I love the whole mail order bride (online) concept to save the town. None of them want it but most understand that is has to be done. I love Ethan's whole attitude about it. I'll sacrifice my happiness to do it, acting like a grumpy bear (yes, pun intended!!) But once he meets her face to face, BAM, thats all she wrote. I love Amelia. I felt bad about her scars and how she viewed herself. She is completely overwhelmed with what she has to do to make a better life for her and her sister but once she meets Ethan, she was a goner.

Yes, it was an insta-love book but I love shifters and get the mate thing so it made sense to me that it was an insta-love book.

It was a quick, cute, sexy and satisfying read. Good development with the plot and characters. I cant wait to see what they come up with next!

This is the first book in the Bear Chronicles of Willow Creek. Ethan Artair is a bear shifter, he is Mayor/Leader of the small town of Willow Creek. A town whose residents are all shifters and has been for several generations. A nosy reporter asking questions about the town not letting in outsiders has caused problems for them. So as their leader Ethan suggests that some of the single residents marry humans so that the reporter sees them allowing outsiders in. Since Ethan is the leader he says he will go first so he places an ad online for a mail-order bride. Amelia is 21 years old, her parents died in a fire when she was little so her and her younger sister, Liza grew up in foster care. She works two jobs to save money for when Liza ages out of the system in a few months when she turns eighteen. Amelia hears about the online mail-order bride website and posts all her info thinking this is the only way she can help Liza. When Ethan is looking at potential brides on the website he comes to Amelia's picture and his "inner bear" starts going wild, meaning he wants her. As soon as he sees her at the airport he knows right away she is his mate and cannot wait to claim her and make her his.

“I’m gonna lick your pussy, until your taste is the only flavor on my tongue.  Then, I’m gonna pull out my cock and come all over you.”

He says that within a minute of their first meet and married a couple hours later. Insta-lust to the max. Liked this short little romance read with a hot possessive alpha male.

It doesn’t take long, before I’m coming all over her bare legs in thick long ribbons.  As soon as the last of my cum is on her, my hands are on her thighs rubbing it into her skin.  “Shit baby, that was so damn hot.  Now that I’ve marked you, everyone will know you’re mine.”

I was slightly disappointed with this story as it could have benefitted from being fleshed out more. While I liked the idea for this and the characters with so few pages it just feels so rushed. It's especially important IMO when an author is writing a shifter story and laying out the world building. I'm not sure whether I'll continue on with this series, a shame as I've enjoyed this authors work before.

This book was extremely "short and sweet" of course a lot of corners where cut but it was actually quite impressive how a full story was able to fit into less than half the normal expected page count. Beginning the book I was a bit skeptical of things and some of the things Ethan did was jaw droppingly surprising, appalling, and steamy as heck. He was a pure animal which was definitely intriguing and eyebrow racing. I didn't find the whole him being a bear thing hot. The book was an enjoyable read though it was definitely a bit rushed and could have use additional edited (ie originally its said that the heroine eye's are a striking green then its referenced as only blue with no explanation) I'm assuming that was a mistake. Overall, it was a good worthwhile read and I will actually be checking out more from these authors. The love scenes are out of the box and definitely blush worthy and steamy. Worth reading for that alone.

The shifter clan from Wood (something) is facing problems, people are being aware that there's something with their town because all of the people in there are from that place too (originals) or something. The Town Mayor, also Alpha of the clan, Ethan, proposed to bring humans in their midst.
Amelia needed something stable and so she applied to be a Bride in an online site. Ethan picked her and now they will meet.

Well the story was simple but there was a lot of points that it needed improvement on. Some explanations are missing plus plot wasn't really properly made. I think this IDEA could've been great if it wasn't so fast and probably thought through. With the ending, I expected it too much and that made it cliche. Damn it.

Sex scenes though are hoootttttttttt though some lines I cringe. Haha. I don't know why but yeah, the sex scenes made me blush.

A quick and dirty light weight story. Not a lot about the lore just the H & h drawn together.

Amelia puts herself on a mail-order-bride website and is chosen by the bear-shifter leader of a small town in the south. She's struggling to make ends meet and needs to support her sister when she turns 18 and ages out of foster care. and this seems like the solution.

Ethan hates the idea of a human mate but he's doing for the town. A reporter is nosing around and questioning why there are no "outsiders" and he feels the only option is for some of them to mate with humans and hope the interest dies down.

The story is fluffy and the sex is hot. Good for a quick freebie.

That was really amazing read. I love shifter world. And this wasn't an exception. I loved Ethan. He was all alpha bear. I loved Amelia. She was sweet, loyal. What Ethan and even the town needed. I liked that, Amelia pretty much took the news of shifters existence fairly well. They both together were explosive, incredible and sweet. Yes, theirs love was insta. But I didn't had a problem with that. Not to mention, we are talking about a shifter, and they are blessed with possibility to recognise theirs mate instantly. I so can't wait for the next book it will be something interesting.

Oh my. How much I loved Ethan and Amelia's story. Mix a bear, a girl, and some insta-love and I was totally hooked.

Ethan needs to get a mate. A human mate. So what's a bear to do? Well order one on line of course. Amelia is looking to change her lonely life and is the one Ethan chooses which definitely shakes things up for her. I loved these two together. Both lonely. Searching and found. They are scorching hot together and I so enjoyed their story. I can't wait to read more in this series.

I give Rough 5 hearts!

So I love Emily Minton books! I haven't read a book by her that I haven't given 5 stars. This is no different. I'm not usually into shifter books actually I think I've only ever read one and just wasn't crazy about it. But I absolutely loved this one! Sometimes you need an Insta-love read and this was it. I can't wait to see what she comes up with in the second one in the series I will definitely be keeping an eye out for it!!

A quick, insta-love shifter read that's set in a truly unique world.

Loved how there was more than one kind of shifter in Willow Creek, how hot the sex was between the main characters & how the evil b*tch bear ended up being assigned the task of bringing humans to town in the end! *rubs hands together while smiling maniacally*

I only wish it were longer & went into more detail about EVERYTHING! There is so much potential with this world!!

Looking forward to the next book in this series, Hard, featuring Eli & Liza. With the insta-lust already hitting them hard at the end of book one, it's bound to make for some smokin' hot scenes in their book!

Side Note: The word "cream" &/or any variation of it, should NEVER be used to describe a woman "down there" in sexual situations. It is NOT sexy. It only makes the woman sound like she has an infection in her nether regions. #barf

Quick Insta-love shifter story. I liked this book. It was similar to the general idea of most shifter books. Great read for something quick.
