Out of the Darkness is the second novel in the highly addictive Untwisted series that begun with The Darkness Within Him. Businesswoman Stella Marsden has put her personal life on hold to further her career. But all work and no play leave Stella realising that she misses a man. Deciding to seek out a no-strings attached relationship, Stella joins Club Twist with the aim of finding some stress-relieving fun. What Stella finds is the sexy, cool and domineering Nathaniel Jackson. Nathaniel appears to have it all together, but under the surface, he’s struggling to deal with a past he’d rather forget.
Where to start? I’m really a lot more boring and normal than my books might suggest. It may disappoint some to know that I’ve never had an illicit affair with a domineering pianist, nor have I ever met or dated a man who frequented sex clubs in London. I have however always had an overactive imagination, which may in part explain where my stories come from! My books may be fiction, but the setting of London was a deliberate choice, I was born and raised in London and as such it holds a special place in my heart which I hope comes across in my writing. Some of my best times have been spent with friends wandering the markets of Camden or sipping beers in Covent Garden.
I moved to Manchester to study, where I ended up living for over ten years. Originally I qualified as an archaeologist, but I soon realised that jobs in that sector were minimal and decided to put my enthusiasm to use by becoming a teacher. Now I split my time between teaching, and engaging my wildly over active imagination by writing. Currently I’m living abroad spending my days exploring, teaching and writing. Where ever I find myself I live with my ever suffering, but hugely supportive husband, our dog and a crazy half-wild cat who keeps the whole household on its toes.
Music is a huge influence in my writing, I listen to everything from Snow Patrol and Linkin Park to Evanescence and REM, in fact, those of you with a good memory for lyrics might even spot one or two lines popping up in my writing as you read. I enjoys writing a wide range of genres including comical real life stories and youth paranormal fantasy, but my first published novels are the adult themed trilogy series 'Untwisted.'
Quick read but I liked it more than the previous one. The best thing was this waiting and all arrangements between Nathan and Steela. I like it for 3 stars.
Another tough one to review. My main issues with this one are:
*I didn’t get Nathan as a dom *I didn’t get Nathan and Stella as a couple (they had no real chemistry between them) *Didn’t care for Rory Carter’s narration (I don’t know what a real dom should sound like, but I don’t envision he’d sound like Rory’s depiction)
I was very disappointed with this one, especially after being interested in finding out more about Nathan’s character from the first book. At this point, I have no idea whether I’ll continue this series.
Enjoyed slightly more than first book. Didn't like introduction of the brother and his relationship. So much so, could't get into third book at all, so never bothered finishing it.
I loved Stella and Nathan’s story and the journey of discovery they make together. The added of bonus of catching up on Rebecca and Nicholas’ relationship was the icing on the top.
Book 1 was more about Nicholas, this book is more about Nathan and his relationship with Stella. My heart went out to Stella at times and I love Nathan’s relationship with his brother.
Books 2 of the Untwisted Series, “Out of the Darkness”…wow. Written from a dual POV, we are introduced to Nathanial Jackson, Stella Marsden and Club Twist.
I really enjoyed “The Darkness Within Him” and the burgeoning relationship between Nicholas and Rebecca and prior to reading volume 2, was a little disappointed that I was leaving them. However, despite a circumspect start, I think that Nathan has thrust his way past Nicholas and firmly taken residence in my heart, as only he could. The main protagonists are extremely well written; frustratingly human, fragile and volatile but overwhelmingly likeable and believable.
Out of the Darkness answers some of the questions raised in The Darkness Within Him like where was Nathan first introduced to the lifestyle and begins to answer what happens with Nicholas after the cane incident? It also allows the reader to use their intelligence to hazard a guess as to why Nathan’s firm is being undercut by 18% precisely, but that is jumping ahead slightly.
Somewhat like their relationship, the book gets straight to the heart of the story without too many frills or distractions. Having had limited experience of domination in her previous relationship and being overloaded in her career, Stella decides that this may be something that she would like to try and so she walks through an unassuming front door and her life changes.
Nathan and Stella are introduced, well more like a meeting is orchestrated, by the co-owner of Club Twist after Stella works up the courage to take the plunge in to the world of the dominant/submissive relationship. Nathan a true Dominant in every way is slightly thrown by his reaction to Stella and loses no time in ensuring that they begin that relationship. Equally Stella is taken aback by her reaction to the indomitable Nathan and is likewise keen, though apprehensive, to enter a relationship with Nathan.
Used to an ordered world Nathan demands control in all aspects of his life and that includes this new relationship with Stella; except he finds himself with this walking contradiction on his hands. However, he decides that for some reason he likes and admires Stella’s contradictory and brutally honest manner and despite his predilection for regiment he finds this behaviour challenging and arousing, which he find confusing and ultimately concerning.
The dual POV enables one to understand the dominant/submissive relationship from both points of view and as such is an extremely good illustration tool. It also aids the hidden revelations that both parties may be viewing this as more of a relationship than a very pleasing contractual obligation.
Unearthing the inner workings of both at the same time as they make those discoveries is enthralling and insightful. Observing the ripple effect as Nathan’s belief that he cannot do a relationship is called in to question by Stella, himself and finally, and with disastrous effect, Nicholas.
The book concludes with a distraught Nicholas turning to the man who normally saves him, only this time the blame is being directed at Nathan. As Nicholas vents Nathan does his utmost to comfort his little brother at the expense of Stella. But as he realises this, he finds himself wondering if his behaviour has driven Stella away and Stella finds herself deliberating her future with Nathan and if she will arrive at his apartment on Friday. I can’t wait for “Into The Light” to reveal what becomes of Nathan and Stella.
Me he informado por curiosidad.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
The relationship between Nathan and Stella is as explosive as that of his brother and Rebecca. Believing himself not capable of love,he dismisses the intense feelings he finds himself having towards Stella and is confused about the guilt he feels in certain situations, being his sub he should be guilt free about his actions towards her and not be as emotionally invested as he seems to have become, it has never been an issue for him in the past, which indicates to us as readers that he has genuine feelings for Stella but does not recognise it as love as it is something foreign to him, being as the only person he has ever had genuine feelings for is his brother. I cant wait to start book 3 in this series and see where it takes Nathan and Stella.
I did enjoy this book. It was nice to see Nate's point of view. I am not sure if I enjoyed it as much as Nicolas's book but I did enjoy it and read it in one sitting(6 hrs).
I find it hard the understand how Nate can still idolize his dad. His dad showed no love, no emotion, beat him and his brother and was a bully. Neither he or his brother are. They have love and emotion or they wouldn't have the guilt or the remorse.
I have faith that these two strong, intelligent and good look men can over come all that they have been through and live a normal love filled life.
omg love this series so much, nathaniel is dominating, possessive, jealous he doesn't believe in love, hes father made sure of that,Stella he's sub,he needs to dominate her in out of bedroom, hes brother comes distraught he's done something he regrets blames Nathaniel for giving him advice on his brothers relationship when he can't sort out his own.
I'm really enjoying this series. The story picks up with Nicholas' brother, Nathan, and Stella. Both are looking for a no strings attached relationship but as the story progresses things from Nathan's past began to unfold. Definitely entertaining. Can be read as a standalone but much better understanding if read after book 1.
Not as enjoyable as book one. Nathan and Stella's story was interesting but the narration from Stella's point of view read like a diary entry or quite a young girl. Not a businesswoman! Too many exclamation marks for my liking. However, I will be reading the end of the series.
This series of books by Alice Raine is actually really good. Dark and deep, brothers Jackson are falling pretty well in Christian Grey's footsteps. If you enjoyed '50 shades' you will definitely like this ones. Waiting for next instalment.
this series just keeps getting better and better book was was great but book two is even better !!! these two brothers Nickolas and Nathan have servived theworst !!!! can they move on from there past!!!1 i cannot wait to find out !!!!
AWESOME!!!! I like how Nathan wasn't sure that he was capable of loving someone but decided he wanted to try with Stella. I love Stella's rebellious nature and love how she controls Nathan as much as he controls her.
I did not think that the second book could compare to the first, but I was pleasantly surprised. I love both brothers and Nathan's story is just as good as Nickolas's.
