Rate this book
In “Don’t Quit Before You Finish”, Jimmy focuses on knowing that God has designed for you to be in a position of leadership and identifying the role of a leader, addressing the principles of change and other challenges leaders face. Most of the failures in leadership are self-inflicted. Failing is rarely the fault of those we serve. This book is designed to help every leader examine their own lives and implement the tools presented in this book, with the character to sustain them.

I deeply respect Jimmy Draper and knew I would gain a ton of insight from this book. I was right. There are an abundance of practical nuggets of wisdom throughout this book that are helpful to all ministry staff members.

My only criticism is regarding the layout of the book. The chapters really do not seem to mean anything. The given topic really is not followed. The topic of each sub-section many times seems random. However, that does not change the value of the content, it simply does not flow logically.

This is an excellent resource for pastors. There is material for men just starting out and material for long time pastors and all points in between. Many of the things Draper discussed I have been doing, but in many instances, I have not stuck with it and I think it has made a difference.

As someone who is preparing to take his second pastorate, I found the last two sections very helpful. I found them so helpful I think they should have been front loaded and placed closer to the front for the pastor who just skims or does not finish the book.

Perhaps that is part of the inside joke in Draper's title, the best advice is at the back and so a reader truly should not quit before they finish. I place this book ahead of SPurgeon's Letters to my Students.

A very encouraging, practical, and helpful book. Experience is life’s great teacher and the experiences a faithful preacher like Jimmy Draper shares are a wealth of wisdom for those in any season of ministry.
