Christian needs what Peter has to give him, but will he let himself have it?

With Toby’s stalker behind bars, Damon and Toby can relax and enjoy their relationship, sinking into basking and revelling in each other.

Things are just heating up for Peter and Christian, though. A former soldier, Christian still hasn’t found his subspace and he’s worried it either doesn’t exist or he’s simply doing it wrong. Peter has as much patience as he needs, though, and he slowly pushes Christian to the edges of his limits, doing everything he can to help Christian grow and flourish.

Christian’s training and the café they’re opening create good excuses for Christian to keep from submitting, even though, deep down, it’s what he really wants. Peter’s perseverance will have to work overtime to overcome them.

Will Christian ever give in to the things he knows he needs? Only time will tell.

Often referred to as "Space Cowboy" and "Gangsta of Love" while still striving for the moniker of "Maurice," Sean Michael spends his days surfing, smutting, organizing his immense gourd collection and fantasizing about one day retiring on a small secluded island peopled entirely by horseshoe crabs. While collecting vast amounts of vintage gay pulp novels and mood rings, Sean whiles away the hours between dropping the f-bomb and persuing the kama sutra by channeling the long lost spirit of John Wayne and singing along with the soundtrack to "Chicago."

A long-time writer of complicated haiku, currently Sean is attempting to learn the advanced arts of plate spinning and soap carving sex toys.

Barring any of that? He'll stick with writing his stories, thanks, and rubbing pretty bodies together to see if they spark.

This is a short, sweet story about Peter and Christian. Christian can’t seem to find his subspace but Peter has all the time in the world to help him get there. I love how patient and kind Peter is and at times insistent with Christian when needed. I loved the truth or dare scene with Damon and Toby too. If you want a quick read with no angst, this is the story for you.

The addition of Christian and Peter, friends of sculptor Toby and bar owner Damon from previous books, has provided some interesting, hot, and fun additions to the ‘Beer and Clay’ series. This fifth volume focuses on them even more than the previous book, and it becomes clear exactly how difficult it is for former soldier Christian to submit to his Dom, Peter. His battle is mostly with himself, and that makes everything super tough.

Christian is a tough guy, he’d have to be as a soldier, but he also has issues, like so many who have served. Feeling useful is one of them, but now that the café is opening, that is no longer a problem. Letting go and relaxing remains hard for him, and no matter what scenes Peter has tried, Christian never quite seems to get there. Of course that increases the stress and makes everything worse. The one thing Christian is sure of is that he loves Peter, and that makes the struggle worth it.

Peter is a great Dom, able to vary the scenes he does with Christian until he finds what works better. He has enough patience for three men, but he also loves Christian to distraction, and that means giving up is even less of an option than if he were in this just for the fun of it. I loved how Peter can be “distracted” from his goals by Christian, but always comes back to what his sub really needs.

If you want to know what’s happening with Christian and Peter as well as have a peek at Toby and Damon, if you enjoy watching two men figure out what actually works for them in the BDSM lifestyle, and if you’re looking for a very hot read with some touching moments, then you will probably like this novella.

I was given this book for an honest review by Inked Rainbow Reads.

I have not read any of the previous stories in this series. I would recommend that you read the previous books, as I was not re-introduced to existing characters, relationships, etc.

Overall, I tend to enjoy Sean Michael stories and this one didn't disappoint, in terms of the story. Because I had not read the previous books, I was lost as to the back story and how the couples fit in to each other lives.

Christian and Peter are still finding their rhythm, so to speak. They have a unique relationship that involves Christian trying to draw along Peter's limits - to stretch his limits, mind and body to receive the ultimate pleasure through their BDSM relationship. It seems that Peter is having a difficult time truly trusting Christian and all that their relationship could offer. However, I don't really know why that is.

Then you have Toby and Damon. Their relationship is not as heavily focused on, but they do seem to have an exceptionally close relationship with Peter and Christian.

The chemistry between Peter and Christian was very hot. And, while the chemistry between Damon and Toby wasn't as burning, they still posed a formidable hotness.

Overall, this was an interesting story, but I definitely recommend reading the previous books in the series if you don't want to feel lost.

The fifth in the series - and I would recommend that you read them in order, they are good reads, and each builds on the storyline, although this would be a hot snapshot, if you are impatient!

Christian is very bad at letting go and just enjoying. His past as a soldier demanded that he never lost control, and now he is about to open his new business, things aren't any better. However, we watch as he has every attention lavished upon him by Peter, his very generous Master. It is very sensually and insightfully written. We also get to catch up with Toby and Damon, who are in a much better place that previously. Enjoy!

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

The Beer & Clay series continues with Christian's business taking off and Peter continuing to struggle to get Christian to let go in the bedrom. This story has some delicious erotic scenes and lots of loving. We also get to spend a little time with Damon and Toby as well. I particularly like when the four of them get together. It is always fun.

Fermenting was enjoyable but the story has run its course. This is a series I've really liked and I'd recommend.

In this 5th book of the series we see both couple settling in and getting more comfortable with each other and themselves. Building trust takes time and and really letting go isn't always easy.

This is the second time I’ve read the Beer & Clay series. It’s classic Sean Michael. If you like sexy M/M BDSM with lots of sexy and not much plot this series fills the bill.

In Fermenting, Sean Michael gives Christian and Peter a chance to be center stage. Up till now they have been supporting characters in Damon and Toby’s storyline, so it’s nice that we get a chance to better know these two men and their love story. This is book five in the series, and it is not meant as a standalone book—you could read it as such but there are many aspects to these men you wouldn’t get which are explained in earlier stories.

Christian is a broken man. His service in the military has left him with wounds that go deep in his mind and his body. Peter is his Dom and lover and is determined to put Christian back together again. Christian has a real problem with submission; he loves and craves the peace it brings him but has trouble giving up the control. Staying hyper-vigilant has kept him alive too long for him to be able to quit—so far he has never hit the elusive sub-space he craves. Frankly, he is starting to think it doesn’t exist at least not for him.

“He wasn’t sure that Peter would ever understand how difficult it was to reach out, knowing that they were going to learn lessons that didn’t come easy to him. Peter waited, though, patient and quiet. That hand was steady, Peter not giving up on him, not at all.”

Peter’s only wish is to give Christian peace. He knows that what he can offer Christian will go a long way toward healing the wounds the man carries around inside of him. The café they open together gives Christian purpose outside their home, and the submission Peter demands gives the man purpose at home. Helping Christian find his sub-space is a challenge Peter is more than up for.

Getting to know Christian and Peter better was great, and finally reading their love story and getting glimpses into their lives was interesting. All in all, Fermenting is a nicely written and fast paced short story. I have enjoyed all the books in this series and would recommend them all.

Finally, this one is mainly Christian and Peter. The Cafe is about to have the soft opening, Toby is sorted and we can concentrate on the other two.

Although Toby and Damon are in the book this is Christian story.

Peter and his boy, still are having the internal war with dominance, which secretly we all love to watch. Including them.

And I loved watching Christian, give up more and more control through out this story. Learning more and more about himself, as he learns about the cafe.

This story, unlike the last couple but not unlike Sean Michael’s books has a lot of love between these characters. Not to say we don’t get a wonderful story as well, but we are back to basics of teaching bedroom/playroom in this one.

I just love that all four also have grown to be a well rounded unit.
