Trapped by his own hubris, Endrance was humbled by his failure. But he can't let Valeria remain free. While his companions fought to find him, Endrance needed to find a way to escape a prison capable of holding an almost godlike Mercanian.
Endrance had been manipulated and led to that prison, and that meant that beyond the Bastille, his captors had no further plans for him. It meant that, should he escape, he would have a freedom he never experienced before.
This seemed like a significant step in the right direction for the Spellscribed series.
What I liked... - A return to the focus on Balator. - Elven role in the story has been wisely minimized. - Does a lot of much needed Character and Plot remodeling.
What I didn't like... - Endurance's madcap wizard charm is still MIA to some degree. - Wasn't able to make much time for being fun.
I have to wonder if the working title of this wasn't Spellscribed: Redemption because that's what this book really came across to me as. Admirably, it seemed like the author took a long hard look at all the elements that didn't work in the third book, of which there were many, and worked hard to change them into something more palatable, sweep them aside, or walk them back entirely.
Much like your average remodeling project, it isn't a completely smooth process. It involved plot devices and deus machina galore but, in the end, the story ends up in a nicer place because of it. I feel a whole lot more optimistic about the prospects of book 5 in the Spellscibed series than I did coming into this entry.
That being said, I wouldn't go in expecting a book as good as Provenience or Ascension. It came in carrying too much baggage to be that. It's exposition heavy and isn't able to make time for nearly enough humor and camaraderie. The story isn't really able to completely focus either since it uses multiple POV to deal with things that need dealt with but seem somewhat unrelated.

Overall, I'd say if you liked book 1 & 2 but didn't like book 3 Resurgence is worth giving a try. At the very least I think you'll be more pleased with where this book leaves the story than the last one.
I found it a little bit short and rushed in a lot of places. Also, i feel that Endrance is a little bit too overpowered. I normally do not have a problem with that but come on the levelled a city alone.

Really liked the series :D Though I would have liked mc seeing through at least one ambush. If this was dungeon story, he would have tripped every on every damn tripwire. I mean he got smarter and stronger but I felt like he learned only to deal with the aftermath, not avoiding tripwires.
In this book of the spellscribed series we have more magic and definitely more action. Our main hero is definitely also more powerful and wise than before. Overall the book was fantastic and we also are informed that there will absolutely be a sequel to this book so the series continue and we are all waiting to read about the first big battle as the elf told Endrance. I personally give this book 4 stars because I found it a bit forced, I mean that it had only 19 chapters and prologue and the epilogue. It needed expansion. Somebody will think that all the time the author took to finish it, it would have had more material than in the book . Nevertheless i am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
