In the quaint town of Mercy, where whispers of saints and angels are passed down, Rosalynn Young's religious conviction isn’t deep. She has no interest in winged creatures painted on the ceilings of churches—that is, until she meets Victor—turns out he's a Grigori: not a cute, chubby face angel like Cupid, but a human-hating, dark spider veins angel. But Victor is drawn to Rose despite his distaste for humans, and she's equally drawn to him despite how vicious he is towards her kind—she knows he'll never hurt her. When a millennia-old Grigori threatens Rose's life, Victor will do anything to protect her... even if it means killing her in the process.
The two find themselves at a crossroads and Rose must choose a path that will change the course of her life forever—will she choose life or death?

The Story Goodreads' Blurb
This will be the summer of love… and death.
When seventeen-year-old Rosalynn Young pictured her summer vacation, she didn’t think she would be spending it working as a maid at the Millennium Hotel. She imagined painting and gardening. But soon, in spite of her disappointment, she meets Victor Gregoire. Wayward and enigmatic, he sends a chill up her spine. Everything about him feels foreign–unearthly.
Dangerously drawn to Victor, Rosalynn willfully ignores his volatile mood swings. When she impulsively enters Victor’s room, she finds a journal dating back to the 19th Century and a photograph of him from August 14, 1874.
He’s hiding something sinister and she’s desperate to find out what, even if it means risking everything. But Rosalynn fails to realize that her attraction to Victor comes at a price and she soon learns some secrets are better kept hidden.
She’s in for the summer job of a lifetime.
The Analysis Just remembering that those were my impressions and opinion as a reader :)
This book was so disappointing in so many levels. I felt the risk when I first read the blurb, as it has a strong Twilight appeal, but I decided to give Falling Light a chance. I loved Twilight, I could love this one too, right…? Wrong. Oh, boy, I was so wrong… You see, I first read Twilight when I was 12 or 13 and, as the next books were released, I saw that I only liked the first and decided it was an excellent standalone by itself. I’ve never re-read Twilight since then and I’m not sure I will someday, as life is short and there are tons of wonderful books waiting to be read for the first time. But I digress, sorry. My point is that this book is too Young Adult for me, in a bad way. Everything was too obvious, the main character was insufferable and the hot guy didn’t even gave me butterflies in the stomach. Maybe if I was 12 or 13, I’d have loved this book as much as I loved Twilight. As a 21 year old with the mind of an old lady of 80, this book only annoyed me. The twist in the end was mildly interesting, so I end up giving it two stars.
The narrative is first person styled from Rosalynn’s point of view and we didn’t got along… At all. So my problems started there. I absolutely hate not getting along with first person narrators, it makes the reading so unpleasant. That’s why I generally prefer third person – less chances of the main characters annoying me to death, haha! But I hate to say that Falling Light in third person would still have a bad effect on me.
The plot was exactly the same as Twilight’s, with a different paranormal creature that won’t be mentioned due spoilers. And there is a huge instalove on it and I’m not a fan of instalove. Not even on mating cases, like it happens with werewolves and other shifters, for example. Desire, lust? That is instant. Love? Not. At. All. Anyway, despite a nice twist in the end that had me arching my brows (I wish I could do the cool lifting only one eyebrow thing, but I sadly can’t), everything was predictable and in a very boring way. You know I don’t mind knowing how things will end, but being able to predict it in detail… Oh dear. I was so bored.
The characters weren’t able to hold my attention or even to make me care. Also, did I mentioned the amorous-square? Because you know, triangles are not bad enough, let’s add another end to it! Sarcasm!
I really hate to say bad things about a book, so I’ll just wrap up this review earlier by saying that I was the wrong audience for it and that if you like mysterious guys, paranormal creatures, love squares triangles, beautiful covers to adorn your shelves and haven’t read Twilight, you’ll love Falling Light :) And, if you decide to pick it up, I honestly and sincerely hope that you like it. All books deserve to be loved by someone :)
Thanks for reading my review and I’m sorry for the shortness, but I regret nothing :)
This book follows Rosalyn who takes her first job cleaning hotels for the summer. During this time she meets Victor a guest at the hotel. After meeting Victor her life completely changes. Rosalyn was adopted after her parents where killed, but not before spending some time on foster care. Rosalyn has a great caregiver who is doing the best that she can do for her.
Things I really enjoyed in the book was the friendship that we could see between Rosalyn and Derek. He seemed to be wanting only the best of Rosalyn. He was her best friend and tried to always be there for her. I loved the way he would look out for her. When I was first reading the book I thought that Rosalyn had feelings for Derek, but as the relationship between Rosalyn and Victor took off I wasn't sure if she ever had feelings for Derek. In the end of the book though you could see that Rosalyn was very important to Derek. This relationship in my mind was written very well and it made a lot of sense to me as a reader.
Other aspects of the book that I enjoyed was the ending. At some points I wasn't 100% sure where the book was going, but towards the end everything fell into place and made complete sense. I think the ending really picks up and makes you want to know what is going to happen Rosalyn. Also, I wanted to learn more about what Victor was and the author did a great job explaining things to the reader so that it made sense.
Things I didn't love in the book was certain parts of the story. Some parts of the story really dragged along and could be cut out and other parts of the story developed way to fast. For an example Victor drove her to a friends wedding, which didn't really make sense since she honestly just met him. Also, during the trip we didn't learn that much about Victor except that he was a little strange. I felt like this whole section could have been cut out, we did get to learn a little about Rosalyn as a child, but that didn't really effect the book. In my opinion that section could have been cut out.
Another example was that Rosalyn and Victor became close way to fast in my opinion. It felt like there relationship just sort of took off and there was no background given to the reader. It was like one moment they met and then she is digging up his past trying to learn about him. I felt like way to many key details where left out on how the relationship developed. I love when as a reader you can get the same feelings the author had while writing this relationship and I just didn't see this come through.
I would suggest this as a nighttime read. It was easy to follow along in the book so it was easy to pickup and putdown. The plot gets a lot more intense towards the end of the book since you want to know what is going to happen to everyone.
I was received a copy of this book from the YA Bound Book Tours for the purpose of providing an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Rosalynn has hada hard life, moving from foster home to foster home after her parent's death when she was 7. She found herself employed during the summer as a maid at a hotel, where she finds an intriguing boy. Rosalynn makes it her mission to find out more about this mysterious boy while trying to battle the drama that is high school, a place where she just does not fit.
I was really excited to read this book. When I started the actual reading part, I was a little let down. I don't want to give too much away because there were a lot of mysteries that book built up to that I don't want to ruin so my review will be a little vague. This was not a bad story, it was just not very engaging for me. Also, the romance (which was the focus of the story in my opinion) was terrible! There was no build-up, it was pretty much an instant fascination which therefore equals love, and I hate that. Rosalynn sees said love interest, can't speak because she is nervous, he is rude to her, and that instantly starts the path to love. She finds out secrets about him but nothing about who he is as a person, but it's totally fine because she loves him. Male interest smelled her and knew he wanted her, despite his intentions to stay away. Arggh, I need my relationships to build (based on communication and real interactions) not an idea.
I not going to lie, I found some correlations between the story and twilight. Girl finds herself in a situation with a dangerous guy and male interest saves the day. Girl is curious about male interest and he refuses to answer, so she takes matters into her own hands to investigate the situation leading to a big reveal encounter. Girl realizes that she is in danger being around male interest, but refuses to give him up or stay away. Yes I lot of the scenarios I described have been featured elsewhere in stories, but there was a Twilightish feel to this story. I can't put my finger on it exactly, maybe the girl's awkwardness/loneliness/innocence, the fact all the guys want her and she is SO OBVIOUS to it all, the crazy devoted obsession with a guy she knows nothing about and was rude to her the one time they talked (and smelled her), one girl befriending her and just happens to be a make-up/clothing fashionista to style her when needed, guy sneaking in to hold her at night while she sleeps yet still very PG, the simplistic writing style. The plot was not the same per se, and I love that the supernatural element was different, but it just felt similar.
All my ranting aside, I liked that the author took a new and different direction for her supernatural world that I never predicted. The plot had a few twists that also kept me on my toes (when I was not fuming of the love). Anyone who likes a teen paranormal romance and enjoyed Twilight would probably really enjoy this story.
Falling Light was an interesting book, but had too many similarities to Twilight to stand on it's own. (Now, don't get me wrong, if you look back at my reviews of the Twilight Saga, the ratings are high, but keep in mind that when I initially read the series, I was 14, and I haven't read the books since, so I don't actually know if I still like them, though I won't deny I did enjoy them at the time). To sum up my opinion - Falling Light, at it's base, has a good mythology, but lets itself down by having too many plot points identical to Twilight. I discuss these below, so there may be slight spoilers for the book as I explain my rating, so don't read on if you hate spoilers. ...... ..... ... .. .
My fault with Falling Light boils down to two key points: 1. I wouldn't mind if the book had the same VIBES as Twilight, if they didn't share exact plot points, such as an almost rape scene, having a lunch (in Twilight, this was the dinner) and the reveal in a forest - sorry, but if one of these had been dropped and the other two altered a little more, I wouldn't even compare. 2. The insta-love in this book borders on ridiculous. I don't mind insta-love, sometimes it's fantastic, but in general, I adore the slow burn loves. The heroine, Rosalynn, falls for Victor INSTANTANEOUSLY. Perhaps I could have overlooked this, if Victor was an arrogant, stuck-up prick, who prances around spouting that angels are better than humans, than insists that he loves Rosalynn back? Sorry, but I believe love should be based around respect, and he had no respect for humans, and therefore, in my mind, Rosalynn. Further, the guy kept secrets for no real reason, threw random tantrums, and when he put Rosalynn in danger, did a really lame job of actually protecting her (she loses her SOUL people, what sort of boyfriend allows that? Figure out another way, jerk) - at least Edward always put Bella first and didn't think humans were pieces of crap. AND, a lesser point is that Rosalynn has one friend (who is awesome by the way) and I feel that relationship should have been explored more.
So, I don't know what to say. I can see hints of great mythology and a book hiding in Falling Light but at the moment, if you've read Twilight, you've read Falling Light.
*Thank-you to YA Bound Book Tours and Dayana Morancy for this ARC. I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review*
This book just had WAY too many similarities to Twilight for me to enjoy it that much. I will explain but fair warning this review DOES contain spoilers so don’t read this is you don’t want to know.
****SPOILERS****
Okay so here are the reasons that I am giving this book such a low rating: 1.Okay so here are the plot points that are exactly the same as Twilight: •Almost rape scene •Having a meal (In Twilight it was a dinner…but just changing the time doesn’t matter) •AND having the reveal in the forest
Seriously if those had been gone or written a different way than it wouldn’t be so bad…but they weren’t. Then there is the insta-love….I HATE INSTA-LOVE!!! It’s really just a ridiculous thing. I enjoy the slow burning romances that get you in all the right feels before the True Love happens, because that’s just more believable and enjoyable. Victor is also an ASS, I mean, he didn’t even like humans so how could he possible care for Rosalynn and he kept secrets that were unnecessary and threw A LOT of tantrums. My own children don’t even throw tantrums that ridiculous. Seriously. He doesn’t even do a good job of protecting her. WORST BOYFRIEND EVER!!!!
So in conclusion, it may have a decent mythology base but I don’t recommend reading it if you have already read Twilight. If you haven’t then this book will be great for you.

Falling Light by Dayana Morency was a pretty fast paced story, unfortunately there were so many Twilight similarities, it was distracting. I don't know why, but I thought this was going to be about vampires. It was actually an angel story. So, that was a pleasant little surprise. I like some of the angel lore that was brought in. These were a different kind of angel, not your people loving protector angels, at least not all of them. They were pretty vicious. I didn't get the romance. At all. What was the appeal for either character? Victor took a very long time to grow on you, and I'm still not really sold on him. I like Rose's bestie better. Rose didn't strike me an as overly intelligent young lady. I kept asking myself "How can she not know that?" or "Why in the world did she say that?" She was a little quirky though. So, there was that. The story had some promise. I really wish it didn't parallel Twilight so much though. That's what really hurt the story for me.
Falling Light by Dayana Morency was kindly provided to me by the author for review. The opinions are my own.
Pros: Great story idea, great characters Cons: ran a bit fast, not always easy to follow Overall rating: It was good, but it edges on something I might not recommend.
Review:
I was given this book on the condition that I would given an honest review. I think this book has great potential. The story line is great and the characters are good. I just struggled at times with the book as a whole. I think that there were times that things got rushed. I also think that some parts moved too slow.
The characters were good, but I think that there was something lacking between them as they interact. I just did not feel connected to Rosalynn at all. And her relationship with Victor seems rushed and doesn't feel right to me. I think that it needs to be draw out a bit, explain things better.
I think with the right changes this could be the start to a great new series. I don't know if the author wants to make it into one, but there is potential here with the right work. I think changing up the flow of things and rehashing the story would make it flow better, and not feel as rushed. It has a great base to work with but I think that the execution was just lacking. Nothing that can't be fixed.
I dunno how I felt about this story, I mean it was an interesting different story and I had fun reading it, but nothing stood out to me, it all kind of felt rushed and random and I felt like it needed more of an overall threat or something that everything came back to and just more twists and surprises it just for me felt a little too easy and like nothing was really happening, like I didn't feel like she was in danger or he was a threat or anything, I dunno I'm rambling now, it makes sense in my head haha. Otherwise I had fun reading this, I flew through it and enjoyed it for the most part!!!
This book is free on Amazon with the kindle unlimited program so I decided to download it. It’s a YA paranormal romance, although, in the beginning, I initially thought the main character (Victor) was a certain paranormal creature, I won’t say which in case of spoilers, but turned out, he’s something totally different and totally unexpected. I loved the twist and the ending had me on edge! This book reminded me a lot of Twilight, which in my case is a good thing because I really enjoyed Twilight. Overall, it was a fun, easy read.
I first read this on Wattpad. This is such a great book! I've read it again on kindle (I received a copy from the author for an honest review) and I absolutely love it. Can't wait for the sequel!
