My books are not "safe reads". You've been warned.

Surviving on caffeine most days, Tracie Douglas lives in Louisiana with her husband, two children and fur baby. She spends her days chasing children and the fur baby, all while maintaining the illusion of sanity.

Her nights are spent toiling away at the keyboard, creating a world filled with hot men and strong women. She loves to read and write all types of book but tends to lean on the darker side of the spectrum. She’s pretty handy with a crochet hook too.

Tracie loves to hear from her readers!

TITLE: Lost in Silence
SERIES: (The Lost Series, #1)
AUTHOR: Tracie Douglas
GENRE: Contemporary Romance
RELEASE DATE: January 19th 2016

MY RATING: 5 STARS

What an astounding debut novel and an awesome start to this series by Tracie Douglas, she's created an intoxicating intricate web of captivity, new found love and inner strength..Definitely an author to keep an eye on..This had me racing through the pages, I loved her strength but he melted my heart..

The beginning is a wee bit confusing, I'm guessing it's giving us a wee look into each of the main characters lives before the day they meet..But once you catch up to the story you get hooked, it's borderline dark, gritty, keeps you racing through the pages to see if they get hunted down, the demons they both face and fight, the struggle of their attraction all make this for a riveting read..

Bad things happen to good people

I stretch my body, feeling the heavy chain anklet weighing me down, the other end attached to the bed, reminding me of my prisoner status,

She has no voice

My inability to form words was caused from something much deeper, much darker. A moment I would never forget.

Chapter One, Jane Doe has escaped from where she was being held, later we find out her name is Alice, like a puzzle piece as you move further along into the story you slowly start connecting the dots up..She's been on the run for five months. later we out from whom. She's holed up in a hotel room, hiding, laying low, when she's tracked down she makes a flee for it and hides out in her neighbors closet.

I'm not sure why I made it my mission to protect a complete stranger. ~ Hudson

People in general frighten me. I don't trust anyone anymore.

I knew she was running from someone or something the moment I laid eyes on her.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

For some unknown reason Hudson protects her, keeps her from harm, takes her to his place where she will be safe until they can figure out their next step.

Lost from her family, friends and the life she once lived.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I wanted something more from her. I wanted to feel her legs wrapped around me, hear her moans in my ear as I make her come apart at the seams.
These were dangerous thoughts
Dangerous wants
Dangerous needs.

He makes me feel safe and protected. He makes me feel like I am worth something. He's slowly waking something deep inside me. Something I thought died years ago.

He's more than i deserve.

So, I’ve been left a little conflicted with how to do my review for this one. See, the idea and bones of the story is fantastic but somehow this didn’t always work for me. I got the hot but sweet alpha, the damsel in distress, the evil villain (and my goodness was he ever evil), suspense, an interesting cast of side characters. But, I wasn't getting the feels. Ugh, I’m not explaining myself very well.

Alice had spent years of horrific sexual, physical and mental torture (this was beyond abuse) at the hands of Erik, her husband. She manages to escape and is on the run which is how she meets Hudson. Now this is where it gets and stays sketchy for a while. I got an idea of what she’d been subjected to, but it’s not until way later in the book that she just blurts out what actually happened to her, this was done in a paragraph. This was too much all at once. Hudson is working a case, we never really find out what it was. Hudson had an ex-wife and PTSD issues, these were so briefly touched upon they didn't even really impact on the story. For me this needed a lot more fleshing out. This all wasn’t helped by a fair few typos.

I’m coming across like I didn’t like this, but in fact I did! It kept my interest all the way through, and I will definitely read more from this debut author. I’m intrigued with Missy (Hudson’s sister) and King (Hudson’s boss) and look forward to their story which is up next.

Promising start, but overall the dislikes outweigh the likes~

Dislike The Prologue

A somewhat odd, perhaps out of place, and certainly unnecessary prologue: "Somewhere in the world" and "Somewhere in the Sandbox."

Like The Immediate Emo Connection

By the beginning of chapter four, I want to jump through the pages of this book and shake Hudson's hand before I help him slay every monster that's ever even thought about Alice. I immediately connect with her and empathize with her plight.

The FMC's state of mind is utterly heartbreaking to watch. She's painted as a very traumatized woman who's intelligent but also barely able to function when presented with a stressor. The distress over food. The cowering in a closet. <<< all palpable moments for readers.

Hudson's kind hand is the kinda shit for which fist-bumps were invented.

Like The Bones Of The Plot

How many times do we wish we could go back and listen to the advice of friends and loved ones? One decision can monumentally change the course of life. For Alice, that choice was her husband.

She escapes and has been running, hiding from him for months. She doesn't speak and behaves like a lab rat that's escaped captivity. When dear old hubby is about to catch up with her, Hudson is there to save the day.

Hudson is a broken soul himself. He's haunted by demons that cause him to close himself off emotionally and fill him with a sense of unworthiness. We know he's former military and that he works private investigation with other ex-military friends.

When he sees Alice in trouble, his conscious won't allow him to turn his back on this fragile woman even though he has a lot on his plate and at risk related to his work. Yes, he finds her attractive. But, I enjoyed how his motivation wasn't insta-love/lust and instead was because he's an honorable man.

He brings her home where he, his partners and sister all rally to protect her and get her back on her feet.

What neither expect is to find a kindred spirit bringing to life feelings long dead and buried.

With both having so much to lose and both finding trust a very difficult task, is there hope for a romance?

^^^ The bare bones of the initial story are excellent.

Dislike The Development Of The Characters

There are a number of problems as the author develops her characters once they arrive at his home...

• The switchbacks between broken Alice, feisty Alice, afraid Alice, submissive Alice, and confident Alice are too drastic, too quick to happen, and too frequent. It's simply not authentic, believable of a woman that's spent six years in captivity. It's too big of a leap for her to cower in a closet one minute and bravely slap a book out of Hudson's hand or call out Hudson's boss on his business practices the next. It's a huge, glaring character hole.

• The transition from mute Alice to talking Alice is glossed over. She doesn't have a big climatic moment of rejoice, which one would expect after years of being mute. She has no difficulties in the assimilation process; it's just a matter of she was mute one moment and the next she talks at will freely. It feels forced and inauthentic.

• Inner thoughts get unintentionally spoken aloud several times by both characters. Once.. Okay. But, this happens multiple times as a lead in to angst, revelations, etc pivotal to the plot. It's not only silly, but it blinks brightly as a copout on both the author and character's parts.

• Part of Alice's inner thoughts are repetitive and extensive. Alice's mantra of self-depreciating inner thoughts are at least in tune with an abused woman, even if the extent and frequency of the replay each time is annoying to readers when it comes to pacing and flow. We CAN get the concept without multi-paragraphs each time.

• Other times, her inner thoughts and voice stray from her character's persona completely. For example, she was sheltered as a teen extensively, claiming to have zero friends and zero outside life. She goes to college and a year later is then held as a sex slave captive for six years with no outside life at all. So, of her lifespan, she basically has one (and that's even questionable since she was dating her husband) year of living normally. Given those circumstances, her constantly saying cultural/social-relative things like 'sex on a stick' and not in any way being socially awkward is a voice and trait that's just not believable given her bio.

• Hudson's inner thoughts are also repetitive and self-deprecating. I understand his sadness, worthless feelings, confusion, and need to fight all the above with distance... I do. But, this line of thought is so overplayed, so over dramatized, so extensive, & so frequent as to become a distraction. His character goes from steadfastly heroic to wish-washy coward.

Like The History Presentation

I enjoyed how the past for both characters is woven in bits and pieces at a time into the current timeframe. Very well done in the revelations and character responses.

Dislike The Secondary Plot Lines

He leaves for two weeks for his job. The angst over why he doesn't call is forced & overdramatized. The job itself is lackluster and just page filler with no purpose other than a) to leave the FMC open to being kidnapped and b) give secondary characters screen time.

The plot line concerning her family feels like a half-ass after thought.

The chick he call up to 'fuck Alice away' and ends up standing up has a big huge diva moment and then is never seen on a page again. So, wtf was the point of all the drivel?!?

Dislike The Editing

The author sometimes falls into poor phrasing choices and sentence structure.

It takes several swipes over a sentence like this to comprehend its thought:

I've barely escaped not once but twice. The first time took six years and it was a complete accident.....

The way the above is phrased, it's unclear if she barely escaped her prison two times - or- if she barely escaped recapture two times. Same with taking six years. Did it take six years for her to escape -or- six years for him to find her. The sentences that follow clear the confusion up, but I still had already paused to read the above two sentences three times before moving on.

There are a lot of typos like these:

"I need my brain to shut done but it isn't going to happen."

"We took this job weary of how intricate it would be..."

Like The Resolve Of The Husband

This actually played out okay, quickly... But okay.

I Think I Like How Hudson Handles Mom's Advice ... But Then He Fucks That Up

Her mom is a selfish tool... Just saying. The fing nerve , ugh!

I like how Hudson approaches his relationship with Alice at the end concerning her choices.

But, then he goes and demands babies and marriage five seconds later.

Like wtf? What happened to he'd be by her side as SHE worked her past shit out and figures out who she is, where she wants to be, etc.. ?!? Maybe we could like wait five minutes after she's almost raped and killed before we go to demanding babies, huh?

All In All

The dislikes just overpower everything I like about the story. It's kind of like a loosely crocheted blanket when it's -20 degrees out and you want a tightly woven sleeping bag:( This is a new author. So, my advice would be to tighten up the plot and do away with dead-end roads and fluff, pay more attention to character consistency in both voice and action, and have the entire thing edited.

Can't say I'd recommend as it stands:/

Wow, I can’t believe I just casually stumbled across this book on Goodreads! It’s the perfect angsty, suspenseful, and dark book that I was looking for!
Both Alice and Hudson are running from their pasts, but in different ways. They’re both equally damaged, broken from something that happened to them, and they just might be what the doctor ordered for each other (awww cheesy, but true). This book is heartfelt and sweet, but it doesn't pull its punches. Go into this read with a casual trigger warning (it’s not nearly as bad as others like it that I’ve read, but a trigger warning is still necessary).
Alice starts off as a shell of the person she once was. She’s weak and fearful, and very, very fragile. I absolutely LOVED her character development over the course of the book. The author did an incredible job of having her heal in a realistic manner, and it nicely complemented Hudson’s own character arc.

WOW! That's all I can say about this book right now! When I read this blurb, I knew that I HAD to read this book.
From the first page I was hooked. Alice called to me in a way that not many characters have. The way she was so broken but at the same time fighting to stay alive—even if it was in her own way.
My heart thumped so hard in my chest several—no scratch that—A LOT! Tracie had me hooked from the first page and I will be reading every single book she publishes.
I don't like to review and basically sum up what the book is, because that is just counterproductive. So I will say this, if you're going to take a chance on a new author, let it be with this book!
I'm so glad that I read this debut author and look forward to all of her other books!
For now... it's on to book 2!

Tracie Douglas' debut novel Lost in Silence is fantastic.
Not normally a dark romance reader, I highly enjoyed Alice's heartbreaking story of escaping the clutches of a mad man and into the closet of an amazing one.
Alice has basically been held hostage and sold to strangers by who she thought was her husband, but was able to escape one night. On the run, she's been careful but her captor is hot on her heels. Luckkily for her that is when Hudson Rivers and her paths cross.
Hudson is a badass ex-military man who had a darkened past, ghosts from war and losing friends haunt his dreams. He is captivated by the tiny woman who enters her room and hides in the closet of his motel room. Something about her calls to him and captivates him. She sparks a need to protect and shield her he hadn't felt before.
What I enjoyed was the way that Tracie Douglas wrote Alice, who by the way had been trained not to speak by her captor. Douglas does an amazing way of letting the reader know whats going on without getting lost in Alice's inability of verbal communication.
The moment that Alice breaks through her training and finally speaks breaks your heart and gives you hope for her to find her bit of happy.
Overall a great read. I will make a warning that it does hit on dark themes and might be a trigger for some. But the twists and turns and the way that hudson and Alice fall in love, is amazing!
I can not wait for the next book in this particular series!!!

I am so thankful when I am given the opportunity to read a new author. It is always like a treasure discovery for me. Throw in a 5 star rating and I am one happy reader.
There was no feeling of novice with this storyline or characters. Very impressive with all grammatical elements and themes.
Unique and entertaining plot. I stayed entertained and involved from beginning to end. I read quickly so I consider that to be lost in thought. Which to me is what I want when reading.
What does every good storyline need? Roles! Those secondary and primary characters that are placed perfectly. Wow!! Talk about bringing words to life. Loved them..Each one. Now I might not have liked everyone. But--there were attributes to be appreciated for every individual.
Grab some Kleenex. So many emotions fill this one. The writing and storytelling just bring the feelings to the surface. The connection is so real.
I absolutely can not suggest this one enough. An overall magnificent book. I guarantee I will be reading the next. AndreaGAH ( ARC)

“Every night before I fall asleep, I make a wish to never wake up.”

Twenty-five-year-old Alice Michaelson didn’t have a conventional childhood. Growing up as the extremely-sheltered, musical-prodigy offspring of a famous violinist who was determined to mold her into an improved version of himself, she had no childhood experiences that didn’t involve her violin. Lonely, desperate to spread her wings and experience life, she took off for Juilliard at 18 against her parents’ wishes. Finally on her own, it was there that she met and fell hard for the first man who showed her any attention. Despite dire warnings about him from her friends and family, she eloped with him at 19. Her nightmare began on the second day of their marriage, when her husband morphed into the monster that her friends and family told her he was. Years of captivity confined to a closet, or, worse, a bedroom ‘entertaining’ her husband’s sadistic clients, she has endured unimaginable physical, psychological and sexual abuse at the hands of her husband, Erik Scott, that has left her weak, haunted and unable to speak. Now, six long, hellish, horrific years later, Alice has escaped her captor. A shell of her vibrant, former young self, she has been on the run for the last few months, and it looks like her luck may have just run out – Erik has found her.

“…if anyone in the world could understand the self hatred and disgust I feel for myself, it would be her.”

Hudson Rivers, a retired Navy SEAL turned special-ops private contractor, has his own darkness and demons to battle. It seems that the people he loves leave him, and he’s decided that he’s not worthy of love – what’s the point? – so, he doesn’t let anyone get too close. He’s been deeply undercover on a huge case for the last two years – a case that’s this close to resolution – he cannot afford any distractions right now, too much is a stake. Returning to his run-down hotel room one day, he has an altercation with a man who instantly rubs him wrong way and is claiming the room next door is his. Hudson knows that it isn’t his room; he’s seen the small, fragile, frightened woman looking over her shoulder as she comes and goes. It is moments after this altercation that he meets Alice for the first time when she ducks into his room seeking refuge from that man. Seeing the terrified woman scurry into his closet, Hudson decides to enter the fray and help her.

“Don’t be afraid to live, brother. She’ll be worth it.”

Back in Oregon at Hudson’s home, the attraction between the two of them simmers. Both believe they are unworthy of the other, both have much to overcome. Hudson pushes Alice to let go of Erik, to fight, to speak, and Alice humbles Hudson with her bravery and manages to sneak past his his walls. His feelings for her take him completely by surprise, and he doesn’t initially handle the realization well. Alice is trying not to fall for Hudson, she is certain that someone as good, as heroic, as handsome as him couldn’t want possibly want someone as damaged, as ‘used’ as her. Just when they are both starting to come to terms with their feelings, Hudson’s case heats up and he’s called back into the field. Will Alice be safe back in Oregon without Hudson watching her? Or will she slip through his fingers and back into Erik’s grasp?

“You love me?”
“I love you, Alice. …You’re it for me.”

There were a lot of things that I really liked about this book. The writing was great, the premise was fantastic, and I loved the main characters. I adored them together and most especially the genuine gentleness and care that Hudson showered on Alice. But there were some inconsistencies that took away from the overall experience for me. We saw none of Alice’s childhood, it was only very briefly mentioned, and this was problematic for me as her entire childhood experience was the set up that allowed her to fall victim to Erik’s initial charms. We also did not see any of Alice and Erik’s early relationship. The biggest problem I had was that aside from a very rushed paragraph or two where she essentially blurted out a glossed-over, Cliff Notes version of some of what she endured, we don’t really know the full extent of what Alice experienced. Instead, hints were dropped, vague statements and inferences were made, but we didn’t get any detailed glimpses into her six years with Erik, and I think that because this is being billed as a “dark” read that a much more in-depth look into that was essential. Most importantly, we didn’t see – nor do we even know – what exactly what happened to Alice to cause her to stop speaking, we just know it was “bad.” This incident was the reason behind the source of what ultimately became book title’s inspiration, and it should absolutely have been explained in detail.

I also realize that while this is a dark tale, it is also a romance between two broken souls. But after all that apparently happened to Alice, I really struggled with how quickly she felt sexually attracted to Hudson. Her inner dialogue in her first scene alone with him was a significant problem for me, and I can trace my skepticism back to that. I had a hard time accepting, that after six years in captivity where she was essentially raped viciously and repeatedly, that without any sort of professional intervention, that she could actually have the thoughts about him that she was having, let alone actually have sex with him without incident. I wanted to believe, I really did, because I loved Hudson and Alice together – LOVED them! But something wasn’t working, it didn’t feel authentic, and the pieces of the puzzle just didn’t come all the way together in this book for me.
This is not an author I am writing off, though. No, I’m intrigued, she’s definitely peaked my interest, and I will read more from her. The potential is absolutely there, I can see her raw talent, and I think that with a little more experience, perhaps some more seasoned beta readers, she could develop the enormous potential I clearly see in her writing into true talent. I’d definitely read more from her in the future, and I plan to read the next book in the series, especially if it is King’s. A dark read like this is a tough nut to crack for a seasoned author, so I am impressed considering that this is Ms. Douglas’ debut. So, while this book was certainly not an epic fail for me, Lost in Silence needed some tweaking, a bit more development of the dark portions of the plot and a slower pace (and trust me, I can’t believe I’m saying that) for it to been a higher rated read for me. This was an all-around good showing for her debut, though, and Tracie Douglas is definitely an author to be excited about.

Suspenseful and gripping from beginning to end

This book was full of suspense and instantly sucked me in. I am talking heart pounding from the get go seeing Alice trying to hide from her captor.
She's escaped his brutality and is on the run. Alice oh my gawd she was soooo strong even when she appeared weak. My heat broke for her I mean how much can a person endure before they break. I'm in awe of her.

Enter Hudson the hero he had me melting so patient so understanding. A fierce protectiveness that made me giddy with a gentleness that made me Fucking SWOON !!!! Simply watching the two of them together, him wanting to keep her safe and her trying to battle her way out of her shell had me soooo engaged I couldn't get enough of the two of them.

So many moments that had my heart rate beating out of my chest. And when things take an unexpected turn for the worst WOAH !! OH NOOO OH NOOOO !!!! My heart sank literally dropped praying that Hudson could save the day.

And this just from her debut Novel. She's now on my one to stalk list.

DNF @ 75%.... not worth finishing

This was my first book form this author and I really wanted to finish it, but I didn’t care about the characters enough to want to. The h was such a huge contradiction. She’s gone several years of intense sexual abuse and tortured enough into being silent. So when she finally has that moment when she finally speaks and opens up the H it was very underwhelming. She also seemed to get over her trauma too quickly. For someone who’s super afraid of men shes super brave with the H. There was also an instance when she approaches one of the H’s friends and touches his face immediately after meeting him because she could sense his pain. It didn’t make sense for someone was too afraid to look people in the eye. She also had a bitchy side towards the very people that were looking out for her. Considering the life she came from she came of very ungrateful. The H was boring and never saw himself as worthy of the h for some reason. He was a bit too emotional for me. There were a few times he cried which had me rolling my eyes.

Another major problem for me was the editing. I can honestly say I’ve never read a book with so many errors before. I can understand a couple here or there, but it was consistently throughout the whole book. It really throws me off my pace and prevents me from really getting into the story.

Unfortunately this one was a major miss for me, but I’ll probably try something else from this author in the future.

Alice has one heck of a dark past. A lesser woman would have broken, and not had the will to live. Hudson is a broody, sexy former navy seal. He sees Alice running, cold, hungry and tired and saves her. Can he get her to come out of her shell? can they repair each other's broken pasts? read the book to find those answers! I loved reading this book and had the honor of reading it before it was released. This author sure knows how to make you feel the emotions she has written within.

Captivating.. I went into the book blind. Tracie Douglas is a new author to me and hot damn I am hooked. I didn't know what to expect from Lost in Silence but I am so glad I found this book. The story captivated me. I was intrigued with the prologue and was very curious as to how the story was going to play out. Chapter after Chapter got better and better and drew me in further. I couldn't put the book down.

Hudson is to die for. I think after each book I read I claim the leading man as mine. Well Hudson, I'm giving you notice now that I am claiming you. His need to protect and help even when facing his own demons never failed to amaze me. Total swoon worthy.

Alice, a lost soul who has been through the unthinkable. A woman who doesn't realize her own strength. A woman who took a chance on a man that she didn't know. Alice ended up being my hero and I fell in love with her time after time. With Hudson's support she was able to see the person she used to be and overcome so much.

Hudson and Alice go on a journey through trust, fear, love, friendship and more. The end result is perfection. This story takes you through ups and downs and in betweens and you learn what strength and weaknesses both Hudson and Alice have and how they overcome them.

I truly loved reading Lost In Silence and can't wait to read what's next by Tracie Douglas.

DNF @ 44%

Love the first 20%ish but after that things with the characters just started to make no sense. Like at all. Especially considering the amount of physical, sexual, emotional abuse the female main character when through for 6 years to the point where she was terrified of everyone, particularly men, and was conditioned to not speak. The things she starts doing and thinking contradict all her trauma and it all happens way too quickly.
If I told someone about this chick at the state she’s in at this point in the book they would not believe me when I say that the same chick slept in a closet at the start of the book because she was so terrified.

There are some tender moments between both characters as well as some moments where I literally fanned myself with the intensity between these two.

A ton of secondary characters that I also loved and can tell you without a doubt that I am praying that they all get their own books because I WANT THEM !!!! I NEED THEM !!!

So many moments that had my heart rate beating out of my chest. And when things take an unexpected turn for the worst WOAH !! Screaming to myself OH NOOO OH NOOOO !!!! My heart sank literally dropped praying that Hudson could save the day.

WOW! This story had me in silence. Well done to the author for expressing herself in such a way that I felt totally connected to the characters. The story felt 'real' and you can't help but be drawn into the chaos. I highly recommend this read, as much as it touches on the dark realities of the sick monsters out there, it also focuses on all the good, the silver lining.

“I love you, Alice. I didn’t know how to say it.”

Wow! This book was incredible. Kudos to Tracie Douglas for the AMAZING job she's done with it.
Alice Michaelson is such a very strong woman. She was stripped of all she was and still didn't give up.
Hudson Rivers is a man who's given up on all things that have to do with love.
Put these two together and you're in for one hell of a fecking ride.
At every turn this book surprised me. The author did such a magnificent job with each character present in this book. Even those who were a part of the story for a short while. Her characters were developed so well. I loathed the bad guy. I loved all of the supporting characters... I hope t see more of them in future books.

This book turned out to be something totally different than what I though it was going to be. It really surprised me and that's a good thing. It had me angry, sad, happy, sad again and back to and ending happily! Hudson and the boys are definitely a pack I'd love to have around, Missy is amazing and Alice had my heart from the very beginning. She's an amazing woman and definitely deserves the amazing man she's grown to love. It's certainly a book I'd recommend to all book lovers! You won't be disappointed!!

I really enjoyed this book! Hudson was super Alpha and sweet and I loved how he was with Alice. She had been through some very horrific things and my heart broke for her but the chemistry and the feels between the two characters was intense and I loved the development of their relationship. The suspense was nerve wracking and kept me glued to the pages. Great debut book, I am impressed by the her writing and can't wait to read about the other brothers. I'm hoping all of them get books!

I saw the description of this book and I really enjoyed the fact that it was going to be on the darker side. The heroine escapes from who she was kidnapped by and from there she eventually meets the hero and I was super excited to see where it would go.

Alice was very headstrong character. No matter what she went through she still far and try to escape from the prison and move forward with her life. I found her determination very inspiring.

Hudson was great. I was so glad that he took it upon himself to help Alice even though in the end it wasn't the safest choice for him to make. He was just totally swoon worthy.

This is a very intriguing and mysterious read. I was drawn in to by what Alice had to go through and I was totally sold because of how amazing Hudson much.

I really like the secondary characters and I can't wait to see him if and when they get their own stories. I am totally wanting Bear to have a story soon!!

Overall, the author did an amazing job of keeping me on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen. I look forward to seeing what else this author can write. Her writing skills were amazing with the dual point of view and her descriptions were detailed enough but not overly detailed. 4 stars #2OCCJD

This is the first book in the series and the first book by this author that I've read and I definitely wasn't disappointed one bit. This is a dark romance read. I was sucked into the story from the first page. I'd have the tissues at the ready as they are some tear jerker, touching moments in this book. I cant wait to read more from this author in the future.
highly recommended

A beautiful, touching, emotional and disturbing story rolled into one.

This book really pulled on my heartstrings, not the usual type of book i would read but it got me. A struggle a lot of women/men face at the hands of an abuser. It was written in a beautiful way and to tell you never to give up hope. Your happy ending will eventually find you.

A truly must read

I would give this 10 stars if I could. It captured my attention from the first chapter. Ali and Hudson will weave their way into your heart. A little Dark but filled with love and light by the end. Absolutely loved it.

Alice is lost, locked away by someone she thought she could trust. He thinks he has broken her but he is wrong. She has given in just to survive but when she gets her chance to run she takes it. Scared and hiding, it is hard to break free of her tormentor and the lessons he has forced her to learn. When she sees Hudson there is something about him that pulls at her and has her seeking him out for help.

Hudson has his own heartache and vows to guard himself against more. While on a job he spots Alice and is intrigued by her. He can tell she is running from something. When that something comes knocking he steps in to keep her safe. Fighting against his thoughts and feelings he takes her with him when he leaves. Hudson must get her to trust him if he is to set her free.

I was drawn into this story from the beginning. The struggle Alice was going through, Hudson’s heartache. Despite the torture Alice has been through she is a strong woman. Alice gets stronger as she gets over her fear. Thanks to Hudson she has found a safe place to heal. Hudson’s friends and family also help and except her as one of their own. Hudson can be a rough talker at times but he is a big sweetheart. There is lots of suspense and a little darkness mixed into this story. So if that is something you enjoy you’ll love this book.

Lost in Silence is Tracie's debut novel! This was quite a fantastic start to her writing journey.
I was immediately pulled into this story by Alice and her heartbreaking story.
Alice was a talented violinist that fell in love with a very tortures and twisted man. Once he had her he held her captive for his own pleasure and that of others. Alice's traumatic experience has physically and mentally made it impossible for her to communicate verbally.

Alice is not so broken that when she sees and opportunity to escape she takes it. She knows that she needs to cover her tracks and travel in the shadows. She is running from the worst thing that has ever happened to her and as chance would have it runs right into the life of Hudson, a man that could change everything the good!
They are both broken and damaged in their own sad way but together they may be able to heal. Will Hudson and Alice be able to weather this storm and come out on the other side together and in one piece . It will not be easy but anything that is worth the blood sweat and tears never is !

I was gifted this book for an honest review.

I was honored to be able to read this book. It is very dark. Alice has endured things that no human should have to go through. She finds a way out with a complete stranger whom she is unable to communicate with by speaking. The book is told in alternating viewpoints which is my favorite way of story telling. The two main characters Alice and Hudson are so real. Listening to them tell their histories and how they are feeling about the other is so touching. I had to swipe away tears several times while reading. I felt like I was in Alice's shoes and I could feel what she was feeling. I read this book straight through. I couldn't put it down. Hoping to read more stories from this author, I really enjoyed it and I hope you will take a chance on it too.

This book was incredible! Tracie Douglas is a new to me author and I’m so glad I got to read this book. It’s a completely different story and dragged me in from the very first page, her writing and the way she came up with this story line astounds me. I cannot wait to read about the other brothers.
"You shouldn't define your self-worth based on bad things, that have happened to you, especially when you have no control over them."

I love a dark romance, and after finished When the Dark Wins,( brilliant book) I didn't think I had it in me to read another one for awhile but I obviously did cos' here I go again, I went into Lost in Silence thinking it couldn't get much darker than what I have already read, Well, I was wrong Lost in.Silence is just as dark Lost in SilenceLost in Silenceand I am afraid loved every second of it also, I am seriously starting to wonder about my own depravity
Poor Alice is literally lost in silence. She lost her voice a long time ago due to her abusive ex, and found the courage to escape him and his tortures. And I'm SERIOUSLY warning YOU ALL HERE, Her ex is one nasty piece of work the things she is put through.
Hudson feels a connection to the silent beauty, though he tries to ignore those feelings. It's obvious that she's been through something that broke her, but he doesn't know what. So he vows to protect her. What neither of them suspected, though, was that Alice was perfectly capable of protecting herself.
With these dark romances, it must be extremely hard for the author hard to write strike the right kind of balance between a heroine who isn't afraid to save herself, but also recognizes that she sometimes can't, and doesn't have to do it alone. Balance between the main male who wants to protect the fuck out of his woman, but also to respect her enough to allow her to go out by herself.
This author found that perfect balance, while adding some humor which the story needed as a break from such darkness. The strength she has placed in her characters, as individuals and as a couple, astounded me and just made me want more, this is book 1 of a 3 book series which are all available, The way the story is weaved makes you almost forget the fact that REALLY REALLY, bad stuff happens to this family and you want to join them anyway.
Poor Alice's demons were very real and very awful (I can't think of a word worse than that), but demons are demons. We all have them, and we all fight them. Don't let yours win.
This book touched me in a way I can not explain, it hurt me emotionally as well as mentally
BUT BOY THAT EPILOGUE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"You fight those demons back and you let the light in."
