Lucius Vinemont has spirited me away to a world of sugar cane and sun. There is nothing he cannot give me on his lavish Cuban plantation. Each gift seduces me, each touch seals my fate. There is no more talk of depraved competitions or his older brother – the one who’d stolen me, claimed me, and made me feel things I never should have. Even as Lucius works to make me forget Sinclair, my thoughts stray back to him, to the dark blue eyes that haunt my sweetest dreams and bitterest nightmares. Just like every dream, this one must end. Christmas will soon be here, and with it, the second trial of the Acquisition.

Full disclosure: This book is a dark romance with elements of slavery, violence, BDSM, and super-hot sex. It is the second book of a trilogy and ends on a cliffhanger. If you're good with these caveats, enjoy.

★★★★ ½! Magnate, book 2 of 3. The Acquisition game continues as Stella uncovers more thruths & is caught between two brothers!

Books in Acquisition series should be read in order:
Book 0.5: Sinclair
Book 1: Counsellor
Book 2: Magnate
Book 3: Sovereign

In Counsellor (book 1) artist Stella Rousseau’s surrendered her life to the eldest Vinemont brother for one year in order to save her father. Counsellor at law and businessman Sinclair Vinemont, Sin is an heir to a dark legacy, a game called The Acquisition that he must participate in with Stella as his plaything.

Set amongst the glamorous, old-style Louisiana elite Stella found herself is caught up in a clandestine, deprived game of power, sex and BDSM with sinister undertones.

Magnate (book 2) opens up after book 1’s shocking ending. Stella is given a brief reprieve from the game, but now finds herself caught between two brothers while more details of the game are revealed and lies and betrayals are uncovered that puts Stella’s life into a tail spin….

Seven words to describe Sinclair Vinemont: Sinister, conflicted, private, elusive, possessive, depraved and ruthless.

Seven words to describe Stella Rousseau: Dutiful, naïve, caring, reflective, determined, strong and spirited.

Magnate told from dual POVs offers a mixture of suspense, violence and erotica in a depraved game for power still shrouded in mystery. Ending leads right to book 3, Sovereign for the conclusion of their story.

Sinister and complex plot! Swoon-worthy hero! Excellent story-telling!

“Seven rules to see you through. Seven rules to live by. Seven rules to make it hurt. Seven rules to kill by.”

“Magnate” is the second installment in Celia Aaron’s newest series entitled “Acquisition” and picks up two weeks after the first installment “Counsellor” ends.

Even if Stella has now a new captor, Lucius, Sinclair’s youngest brother, she still dreams about her old captor.

“You made me weak. From the first moment I saw you, you were a fucking poison.”

She still craves his touch, but she’s determined to keep her emotions at bay. She feels Sinclair feels more for her that he admits, but she can’t do anything about it, since he continues to torment her in every way. She believes Lucius can save her, but as the story unfolds she realizes that he’s worse that his big brother. She knows one thing – she has to survive the upcoming trial. She would do anything to be safe, even use Lucius against Sinclair.

Sinclair is pissed that Stella chose his brother. He wants to hate her, to see her only as an acquisition, but he eventually admits to himself how much she means to him.

“Even when she wasn’t in my presence, I saw her. More than that, I felt her. She’d taken up residence inside me.”

However, he’s determined to win this sick game. They have too, because everything will be lost and everyone will lose something if someone else wins. He wants to keep Stella away from him and the only way to accomplish that is to be cruel with her.

Well, this one was better than the first installment for me. The plot was more developed, the story was more intriguing and maybe a little darker too. I liked the new revelations and how the mystery was built. Once again the story was told from both MC point-of-view. Both Stella and Sinclair were well developed in this installment. And not only them, a couple of supporting characters too.

Stella was strong here as in the previous installment. She’s determined not to give up, to fight for her life and not only. Sinclair is still feeling conflicted. He tries to fights his feelings as best as he can. He is definitely more likeable in this installment, more human. At some point he actually helps Stella when she needs it and at times he is sweet, caring and protective with her. Needless to say I liked him more here. In this installment like in the previous, the dynamic between these two is done well and the attraction is stronger than ever.

The supporting characters were intriguing, engaging, especially some female character. The story ends with an interesting cliffhanger, so I’m anxiously waiting for the third and final installment.

Overall, a great, entertaining read!

Building in intensity, 'Magnate' picks up where 'Counsellor' left off, continuing the sordid tradition of the Acquisition trials. Stella has now chosen to be owned by Sinclair's younger brother, Lucius. Sibling rivalry is taken to a whole new level as these two brothers fight for the rights to Stella's body and soul.

It soon becomes apparent to Stella that Lucius is not just the kind-hearted savior that he portrayed himself as. Like his older brother, he is a wolf, dead set on ruining her. She is determined to best the brothers, turning them against one another and destroying this family from the inside out.

As the Christmas trial comes to pass, Lucius finally realizes that he has bitten off more than he can chew. Stella faces unimaginable horrors at the hands of the entitled elite of the South, while the brothers are powerless to stop it from playing out before them. Luckily, there were a few saving graces for Stella which helped her escape, in part, the terrors of this trial.

Following the Christmas trial, nothing will be the same. Stella's relationship with the two brothers has been forever changed. When she finally meets the hidden matriarch if the family, what she learns forces her to view the brothers, and the trials, in a new light. She comes to realize that she is not the only victim of the trials in this household.

With each installment, this series continues to get more intriguing. I am torn between love and hate as I struggle to come to terms with the actions of Sinclair. My heart goes out to Stella with each horrendous act that she is forced to endure. Yet, my sympathy now extends to Sinclair as well, now that I understand why he must continue down this path. This story is twisted and addicting!

I must start out and say I LOVE THE DEPRAVITY AND DARKNESS that the mind of Celia Aaron weaves. Magnate was Absolutely Gripping, Mesmerizing, Wicked and Addicting. Magnate picks up two weeks after the Counsellor ends. Stella has escaped the eyes, the hold, the attraction, and the hatred of Sinclair Vinemont. But in her sleep he is never far. She has traded one snake for another; Lucius Vinemont is now her captor. But no matter the captor, Stella must continue in the Acquisition Trials.

 photo Tight 11_zpseebnl3c5.jpg

As the story unfolds, more secrets and expectations are revealed. Playing the game, being the player and being the pawn all become more intertwined with feelings. But feelings cannot be part of the Trials for feelings can lose the game that can’t be lost for the Vinemont’s. Stella and Sinclair have a connection and every now and then, Sinclair’s external shield comes down. But Sinclair has many responsibilities and Stella is not here as an accessory but as a sacrifice. There are times he forgets but the REAL meaning of The Acquisition Trials is always present. I will say that The Christmas Trials are not for the faint of heart. I will warn you that it is debauchery at its finest but I loved how it unfolded and progressed.

This story is laced with darkness, demented desires, betrayals, longing, lust, hatred……..every dark emotion under the sun. But it also has a glimmer of hope, redemption and love. When they all mix together, it creates a story that is heart wrenching and engrossing. The writing is Simply Brilliant!! Counsellor and Magnate have managed to infiltrate my mind and my soul and I can only imagine what Sovereign will do.

Stella finds herself deeper in the twisted games of the Acquisition trials. In this second part of the trilogy, I felt the depravity of the series turn up a notch as this addictive story kept me on the edge of my seat. The heroine plays the game of her life whilst the families of the acquisition demonstrate their antiquated community as they battle to reign supreme. I relished the thrilling nature, the twists and turns, the suspense running through, the anticipation of what may come next and the exhilaration of the darkness. It's violent and sexually depraved in areas but I could not tear my reading eyes away.

The motivation driving Sinclair is laid bare by the end of this middle part of the series and oh my goodness! I must say that the pace of this three part series is set to perfection revealing just what we need to know at exactly the right times to keep me highly engaged as a reader. I saw more of the relationship between the three brothers; their dynamic is really interesting and adds to the tension of the piece. There’s animosity between them but equally they share a kinship, a kinship that will no doubt play a strong role in the angst of the story as it progresses further.

I had a small issue with the previous book and my concern was completely answered in this second installment, perfectly addressed whilst enhancing Stella's story. She's a survivor but there are moments that I felt a little frustrated with her dialogue and thought process, she complained about something that really was her doing. Having said that.... Stella is courageous, feisty and strong making her a great heroine to take centre stage in this story.

Once again Celia Aaron has produced a compelling read. It's a dark romance that, at times is fantastical and there are elements that are a little farfetched but this is fiction and I totally bought into the acquisitions dark and twisted world. It felt like the very best kind of dark fairy tale ensconced in realism with a dose of fantasy. A beauty and the beast type story meets the hunger games, all set in the real world. I was seduced by the tale weaved by this author and found myself addicted to the pages... and the ending???!!! OMG!!! The ending gave me what I was craving in a very twisted way and sealed the deal of a solid 4 star read. The plot has thickened and I cannot wait for SOVEREIGN, the third and final part of this dark and twisted story.

Note: MAGNATE is the second part in the three part Acquisition series told in the alternating perspective of Stella and Sinclair. The series should be read n order.

My suspicions are confirmed. Stella is truly a masochist and Sinclair is definitely a sadist. And that is the best part of the book! (…just being sarcastic here…)

Well, this was a painful to read book.

I was tensed while I was reading, just thinking the torturing that Stella has to endure during the Christmas trial. It is not a big secret among the family members anyway.
I was scared thinking what Lucius, Sinclair's younger brother, is going to do to her now that he owns her.
And I was absolutely sure that Stella’s lovely stepbrother is going to double-cross her.

Thank God the outcome is not as bad as I expected – even if it is pure torture to watch. But still it could have been much worse.

Sinclair Vinemont. Sin. Hmm. I cannot say that I finally like him. Let’s just say that he has taken a step to the right direction. There are seven rules that the participant families in the games need to follow. I kind of understand Sinclair’s desperate need to win when I learned the first rule – although I do not understand why someone and his family participate in the games in the first place. How much power-starved they have to be...

Stella Rousseau. Hmm. Still I do not understand what she is doing there. But I am expecting to see some more common sense from her in book 3, “Sovereign”.

She promised actually:
“I would come out the other side. And when I did, I would burn the entire Acquisition to the ground.”
And I hope that she keeps her promise.

"Was strength always born of fire, of torment? I nodded at the silent question. I would have to suffer to survive. But I would come out the other side."

I love this author’s writing. She is one of my favorite authors. I’ve read four of her books just in this year so you can guess how much I like her books! She is really talented in Dark romance and this series is one of her dark works. This one wasn’t as dark as the first installment but it still was dark! It’s a page-turner and I assure you it holds your interest till the last page! I really loved Stella, she is a fighter, she didn’t accept anything without a fight and she is so brave and smart. She didn’t let her love/lust/attraction for Sin made her go soft on Sin and forgive him for what he’s done. And Sin! I loved him for one minute and the next minute I wanted to kill him with my own hands! He does something so nice one second and the next when he opens his mouth he ruins everything! But still I couldn’t hate him, I tried but I just can’t! At least, he showed some emotions toward Stella. The writing was so perfect and the characters were well-written. I really liked Sin’s brothers. Told in dual POV, 1st person, and well-paced. It’s the second installment in the "Acquisition" series and it should be read in order. Looking forward to reading the third and final installment! Overall, I LOVED it and I hope you enjoy it as well!

No no no no … that Cliffhanger, I didn’t see that coming … no!!! I’m so sorry sweet Stella but I’m on Sinclair’s side now! He just has to do this and you’ll just have to survive … damn!

I loved this book even more than the first one. Stella has chosen Lucius as her owner and wants to go to the trials with him. Will Lucius still want this when Sinclair tells him the truth about what will have to be done? What will the brutal Christmas trials do to Stella? How will this affect the 3 brothers? I’m not telling more about this story since I don’t want to spoil anything…

In the first book I had huge problems with Sinclair but this book changed my mind. I still don’t really like Lucius but then there is sweet, young Teddy… I really adore that boy and hope he’ll get the chance to continue his rather ‘carefree’ life …

As for Stella … wow her strength and compassion for others! I really admire her for this. I also love the attraction between her and Sinclair.

I’m really looking forward to the third book and am so glad it’s planned for April 2016 :)

Magnate opens with Stella's choice of a Vinemont brother and with the possible looming repercussions. While her heart still craves the man she believes Sin truly may be, he continues to keep his emotions closely guarded. With upheaval within the Vinemont family business, the man Stella least expects arrives to reclaim her and they return to the Vinemont estate.

“You don’t want me to put you on your stomach, slap your ass, fist your hair, and fuck your tight pussy until I make you come on a scream? Tie you up, make you come again while I’m deep in your ass until you beg me to stop?”

As the second Acquisition trial is approaching, Stella still doesn’t know what to expect but she is determined to survive. The question is whether she will irrevocably change once her fate is in the hands of her captor. During the trial, Stella proves she is a worthy competitor and stronger than was expected. An interesting turn of events occurs, and at the time, I was relieved.

“His words were a dark promise that sent a thread of electricity straight between my thighs. I was in his web again, caught and cocooned as he slowly sank his fangs into every bit of me.”

With the remaining two Acquisition trials looming, tension at the Vinemont estate is escalating. There are so many family secrets and the seven rules of the Acquisition have yet to be fully disclosed. It isn’t until the Vinemont matriarch reveals the first and most important rule when the game instantly changes for Stella. Now, there really aren't any other options for Stella or the Vinemonts. Winning is everything.

“I would gladly take your place if I could. But I can't. And I need you to get through this.”

While the tone of Magnate continues to be ominous and mysterious, all of the elements at play are slowly coming together in Magnate. From the beginning, Sin advised Stella that the less she knew about the trials, the better and being the oldest sibling, Sin must bear this burden. The dynamics between the brothers and the family business are also coalescing, as they could not be more different but as a unit they are complimentary. With such growing attachments to the brothers, the outcome of the trial is worrisome.

For me, this series just keeps getting better! The revelations provided add more to the mystery of the plot and it is certainly keeping me intrigued. Additionally, the alternating POV’s between Sinclair and Stella reinforce their experiences and allows for thoughtful character development and empathy. All I know is that I want to read more!! With the cliffhanger revelation and ending, I am counting the days for Sovereign’s release!!!

5 "You will never break me." Stars

First the essentials:
Yes, I freaking LOVE this book, this series.

Yes, the Acquisition series is dark Erotica.

Yes, it's told from the dual, first person points of view of the hero and heroine.

Yes, this is a series and you must read Counsellor first before starting Magnate. I'll tell you why you MUST read Counsellor here.

Yes, the ending makes you want more immediately. NO, this should ABSOLUTELY NOT deter one from reading the book.

If you want a wickedly depraved, thought-inducing, captivating plot and you enjoyed book one of this series don't stop there. Magnate once again captures the beauty of Celia Aaron's exquisitely dark, intelligent writing. I told my reading buddies that I'd love to be in the mind of this author for a day to see how it ticks and where this plot came from within the recesses of her psyche. I love a good romance especially those with unbelievably well-written prose and dark, twisty elements. So descriptive the writing painting a morbidly vivid picture always highlighting the depths of depravity encasing the story. The sordid, sick tale of Sinclair Vinemont and Stella Rousseau left me reeling page after page. A tortured, cold anti-hero paired with a fiery, bold, and brave heroine makes for a perfectly heart pumping read. Magnate checks all boxes from the writing, the plot, the characters, and the depth of emotion and passion.

Additionally, for me, it's a perfect showcase about the balance of control and what it means to give it up or have it taken from you. Dichotomies are rich in this book and all surround that balance of control. Interesting contradictions elevating the writing to a level of distinct brilliance. Explicit anguish heightening our awareness of rich vs. poor and good vs. evil. While equally both represent two halves of conflict being fought between Sinclair and Stella. Who has the control? And what does it mean to give it rather than having it stripped from you? What do the darker points of our sexual nature say about strength and control? And who gets to decide where the line is drawn? It's an intriguing and beautiful concept here between Master and slave. One in which we see both Sin and Stella suffer the consequences from time and again. The psychology of control and strength in this book is vast and beyond interesting to read. I'm joyful in the dark with how Celia Aaron presents this distinction of erotic writing with a story that shows both the beauty of relinquishing control and the ugly of having it taken away.

The love is in the pain - I kept thinking this line over and over while reading. I'm huge supporter of cliches such as nothing comes easy or you can't find light without experiencing the dark. I'm sure it's why I can get so deeply invested in dark romances. Celia Aaron illustrates romantic and dark with control looming about just perfectly.

From the beautifully, well-crafted plot, the secondary characters, the underlying themes, the psychology, the thought provoking prose, to the extreme shadows of Sinclair Vinemont's life that now shroud Stella's soul - Magnate will seduce and hypnotize you. I most assuredly cannot wait until the grand finale of the series. Bravo, Celia Aaron.

At the end of Counsellor, we see our Acquisition changing hands. Stella thinks Lucius can save her, that she would be safe in his hands. But little does she know, that Lucius, will harm her and walk away without a backward thought. While Sinclair lurks in the background, waiting and silently staking his claim. Stellar may be the means to winning the Acquisition, bearing the savagery of a secret aristocratic society, all in the race for supremacy. But, she is the one woman that softens his heart. His cruelty towards her is the only way to remain strong and objective in order to win.

Suffice to say, Celia Aaron takes us on an in depth journey into the Christmas Trials. The second trial of the Acquisition games. One that will make you gasp in horror, while praying for mercy. Crying because of the pain and sorrow, that the loser will have to bear because of the seven rules.

While Stella nervously awaits the Christmas trials. The one trial that a former Acquisition mentioned was most brutal and takes hold of a person's most savage inner beast. And unleashes it upon the sacrificial lamb. Her fight was tantamount to a raging bull. I have no idea how she did it. But Stellar fought every step of the way. She truly proved Sinclair right, when he said she would be the Vinemonts victor.

I loved that even though this book shared the spotlight with Lucius, Sinclair was there every step of the way. His strategies played a prominent part of the story and proved that he was right. He was the only one who had the strength to carry the family's burden.

Vinemont thought he needed to break Stellar to win. To treat her as those same monsters, he had to become a monster himself. He was wrong.

Stellar's own plans to turn Lucius against Sinclair are foiled when she realizes that the Vinemont brothers are fighting for something greater than her. Someone, that she herself, may just as willingly lay down her life for.

Such another great instalment by Celia Aaron. The characters, were all detailed and well developed. Especially Cal's portrayal, along with Rebecca's loony bin antics. Well heck! Delicious!!! It was dark, animalistic, appalling, and yet, so gratifying.

Can't wait for Sovereign. I need to know what happens, especially after than cliffhanger.

If you're a dark romance lover, that loves an anti-hero, and an enigmatic and mercurial main character. With loads of suspense and depravity. Then you'll love this series. Recommended to be read in order - Counsellor, Magnate and soon Sovereign.

Somehow I'm suppose to articulate into words just how good this was without sounding like a broken record. That's like saying please don't show that rerun again. Maybe my picture art will go all hells bells about screwed up family values, traditions, lies and deceit and most importantly betrayal.

So as I part my advice and suggestion to you before reading, is (A) if you don't have book three Sovereign (Acquisition, #3) pick it up now before you even start Magnate. You will be itching to continue as I'm jonesing to do right now but instead doing this review.

Secondly brace yourself, you're in for one hell of a ride. This isn't for the feint of heart even tho I'm willing to give Sinclair a second chance doesn't mean I'm all lovey dovey towards him. I..... might of been hasty when I said he didn't have a redeeming quality. So I'll leave with this.

1. Run
2. Don't look back. Either keep running or find a good place to hide.
3. Know they will find you. The main goal is to survive.

We go from a woman who wants to pit brother against brother: I would do what I had to do to truly turn him against his brother.”

To Stella having sex with Sinclair and wanting to break him: "I knew he wanted me as more than just his Acquisition. His twisted heart had a glimmer of love left and I’d touched it, felt it. Now I would use it to break him.”

To her falling for him, even though he would never choose her over the Acquisition win: l will do anything to win, to make sure Lucius wins, to beat the others. Anything, Stella. Even if that means that every fucking man in Louisiana rapes you a hundred times over. No matter how much that sickens me. Yes.”

I can vouch for an anti hero. I can even appreciate his darkness. But he needs to earn the love. Even a dark one needs to choose the girl over anything else. You can say that's my hairline trigger no matter the depravation in activity or theme. Even if he has beaten her, he needs to feel bone deep regret and perversion and obsession. Sinclair's past wasn't complete darkness, he had portions of light in his life. He was no Caleb (from Captive in the Dark) yet Caleb still chose Livvie over his revenge after his mistakes. I wanted Sin to chose Stella over Teddy. To go mad for her. I don't care if his younger brother's life is on the line. Essentially he was exchanging Stella's for Ted's. It was just a slower process of death for her: beatings, pain, demeaning behaviour, repetitive sexual assaults, permanent physical damage and emotional incapacitation.

It's hard to like an anti hero when even if the case of his girl, he always watches like a cowardly bystander. Men and women alike touch her, look at her, beat her, demean her and he contributes. When he's mad at his feelings for her, he tries to distance her by making the situation worse. I'd be okay if he was her ONLY abuser but the poor girl had multiple on her back and he was adding to his list of transgressions. Then Sin says he "feels" her pain too when they hurt her. Fuck off and choke on a cyanide cause you weren't getting maimed at and abused. If you love your brother, find the loophole for the girl. Because the chances of her death in this game was 99:1 and he just played it like a piece of sh*t.

And what kind of thick b*tch is she. Nothing wrong with a little selfishness. I don't care how sweet or kind Teddy is, the putz needs to know what he's in for. Stella sacrificing her life for him was bullshit. Dylan's sudden change was the stupidest thing I've witnessed too. There's just too much stupidity!

ARC kindly provided by Patchwork Press - Cooperative via Netgally in exchange of an honest review.

And the story goes on exactly from where it was left! And what a story! What a book! Fantastic! Really fantastic! The twists and the surprises just kept coming on! Every time I thought that I had everything figured out, everything changed! The darkness is still there! The writing is still superb and again congratulations to Ms. Aaron for it. This book is also written from a dual POV (Stella's and Sin's) like the first one and it still nicely done!

Stella changes in this book and I still love her! She still refuses to give up or give in and she still fights with everything she has. She has made some friends but she knows that no one can save her besides herself!

Sin is really fantastic in this book. He is still bad like in the previous one and he is honest about it! And I still don't know if I like him or not, but at least I know now the reasoning behind his actions. I can understand him in a way.

The end was brilliant once again and a cliffhanger! Everything was going quite well until the very last chapter, the very last page, the very last sentence! And then the story stopped and I couldn't believe it! I was turning the pages but there was nothing more....Brilliant!!!! And now I have to wait for the next one to come out....

I definitely recommend this book, this series to everyone who loves a dark, twisted, erotica book.

Now that's what I'm talking about.

better

This book gave me much more of what I expected from the series. It was raw, deep, a bit scary, emotional, tragic, etc. The connection that was lacking in book 1 was found here in book 2.

coolstory

Stella showed strength in the face of her oppressors (the Sovereign) and I was impressed by her moxie when she had to endure the Christmas trial. All the while she tried to deny how far she had fallen for Sinclair. As for Sin, I liked him even more. He definitely came through and redeemed himself, not only in Stella's eyes, but mine as well. And once again, these two were hella hot together.

I can't even imagine what's going to happen in book 3. Stella wants to tear the sovereignty apart, but she's going to need help. Can she count on Sinclair and Lucius? So exciting!!

The plot thickens, and so does the depravity…

Again, Celia Aaron treats us to more mind games in this sick tournament of the rich and powerful. Only this time around, it’s felt more deeply because she cleverly makes you form connections and choose your loyalties before ripping your heart into a million little pieces. More questions are put forward, more twists are given to this tale, more secrets are revealed and it all culminates in one heart-stopping cliff-hanger ending.

Even though Stella has already lived through one terrible experience after another, and knows exactly what waits for her next, her strength and determination is unwavering. Even though she now belongs to Lucius, her mind and body still yearns for Sin. We get to see a more tender side to Sin whose control seems to be slipping more and more as the story unfolds which only makes it harder to equate his heinous actions and words with his emotions. Why is he SO desperate to break Stella and win the tournament?

With the mystery growing ever deeper with the help of secondary characters and new players in this complicated game, the author did an amazing job of creating a multi-layered romance and just a really engrossing dark thriller.

The whole book is ensconced in a cloud of danger and the action is brilliantly written. We get a glimpse of how deep the sickness of this depraved group of people actually goes and how far reaching the power of The Sovereign is. Though their actual acts of depravity are quite disturbing, it is the constant anticipation of these acts that played on my emotions the most.

I read Magnate before bed and I had to read on of her erotic shorts (and eat some cheese) afterward just so I could get myself to a better, happier place before closing my eyes. So be warned that this book is explicit and disturbing and contains elements violence, slavery, rape and BDSM but this is also an exceptional story and one of my favorites of the year.

The Vinemont brothers are back, fighting over the beautiful Stella, the girl who plays such a huge role in the Acquisition trials. They will do anything to win, even risk the girl who's taking their emotions by storm.

I could not put Magnate down, nothing could stop me from reading this book in one sitting. Stella and her fierce determination carry over from Counsellor, but in this book we learn even more about her past, her personal darkness, and what she's willing to do to get away from the Vinemont brothers, especially Sinclair. I loved reading Stella's perspective, just like before, she has such intense inner dialogue, fighting with herself over her desire to both be away from Sinclair Vinemont and to be in his arms at any given chance. Her emotions run wild in this book and I think that made it all the more interesting for me. What blew Magnate out of the water for me though, was reading how much Sinclair and Lucias have changed. I expected much of the same from both of them, but the impending winter trial and the reality of the Acquisition rules really brought out a lot of changes from both. The tender side we see in both characters, as they interact with family and come to term with their feelings, is such a huge difference from Magnate and I was ready to eat out of Sinclair's hand if he offered.

The darkness and mystery in this book continue to be just as heavy as they were in the previous novel, if not more. The Acquisition is explained in even greater detail and as a reader your head will become so jumbled with just how sick the wealthy Louisiana families are. I found myself seeing good in people I shouldn't, choosing sides, and trying to figure out an end that was so unpredictable. The romance in this book is especially dark and heavy, I struggled with the feelings I wanted to blossom between characters, because I knew the trials brought depravity, fear, and danger with them. It is all incredibly explicit and if you're like me you'll be asking yourself why you like it all so much. I was so engaged by all the relationship dynamics between the characters and I found myself eating up the stories about the past and present trials.

I definitely found the second installment of the Acquisition series to be much more developed than the first, Counsellor. Not only were the main characters far more developed, but the secondary characters didn't feel like background noise anymore. There was a lot of development to the plot and I found myself really enjoy the suspense and anticipation. Intrigue will have you starting this book, the dark suspense and romance will keep you reading. Magnate is not a standalone novel and should be read after the completion of Counsellor, book three in the series is due this April.

"Seven rules to see you through. Seven rules to live by . Seven rules to make it hurt. Seven rules to kill by."

I LOVED THIS BOOK! A slow, torturous release of secrets and devastation. I enjoyed this ride, please don't make me get off.

This is the second book in The Acquisition Series, go read Counsellor if you haven't yet. There's dark themes, unsavory characters, and a plot that will have you biting your nails. I'm completely addicted now, I need to know what happens, like I need my next breath. A secret society of prominent families, only one can rule, there's too much to lose, even if it costs your soul. I know, I know, I can't tell you much more. You have to dig in, because it's going to blow your mind.

Let me tell you, Stella is not your average cry baby, oh, poor me heroine, nope. She's a fighter, a breath of fresh air. She's fighting with all she's got, but Sin has reached in and grabbed her heart while at the same time he breaks it. I said this with the first book, I love the push and pull between them. Love me. Hate me. Break me. I almost forgot to mention the side characters. Sin has two brothers that are to die for. That's all I'm saying, but I wanted Stella to almost become as deviant as them, I just wanted some revenge.

“You will never break me. Never.” The venom in my voice surprised me. I realized then how much I meant it. How much I intended to fight. There would be no more sinking to the bottom of the pool. No more toying with death over drinks and dancing. I intended to walk across the room, wrap my arms around death’s neck and pull him down to me. Kiss him like there was no tomorrow and dare him to do a thing about it."

Let's talk about the plot. OMG!!!!This is the stuff I live for. There's a scene that kinda reminded me of a twisted Hunger Games. I love that shit. The darker the better for me. I was laughing uncontrollably, I could not turn the pages fast enough. The story is a slow release, you won't get all the answers right away, I was okay with that. Every little bit of information I got had me sweating just a tad. It's a slow burn till the end. AND THEN BAMN!!!!! WHAT DO I DO NOW?? This author has put me in a choke hold, I can't breathe until I get the next book.

Gather around all my dark friends, you have to read this. I'm telling you, you will love it.

NOTE: Read THE COUNSELLOR first. There are characters returning in this segment that you need to know about. I know how some of you like to do things out of order. I wouldn't do that if I were you.

Dark and tortured is the only way I can describe my own brain function when reading the second book in the Acquisition Series. I cannot even describe the numerous emotions that came over me as I read each page. Is it even possible to fall head over heels in love with Sin and hate him by the middle? And of course by then end of the book, you are thrown right back into his arms like the things he has said and done never existed.

It is hard to explain my turmoil without giving up the goods and I REFUSE to spoil it. FIRST, you have got to read The Counsellor before reading this to understand the Vinemonts and their (clears throat) interesting family. But let's be clear, as much as I love Mr. Sinclair "SIN" Vinemont, Celia decides to bring his lovely brothers deeper into the mix making me love them just as much. (Won't say too much there, you'll have to read my lovelies).

In this book, Celia goes deeper into the next phase of the Acquisition, allowing the reader to understand these interesting people who are involved with this kind of (eehh-hemm) kink. You begin to love Stella (my f*cking hero) more and more as she develops into a stronger and more determined woman. With odds still not going in her favor, she continues to fight and fight hard. But yes, in a dark erotic story such as this, Celia hits you with some unexpected "Damn it man" moments, that will make you throw your device (I did. My poor phone.) A great writer will always pull you closer and closer until you are diving over the cliff and that is what Celia does. She has done it with every single book she has written and yes I have read them all.

Hold on to your damn hats because the end of this will have your mouth saying; "Whhhaaaaaaa?" Yes it will. The writing is flawless, the fluidity of the story was unwavering, and I'm telling you, this series needs to be placed on HBO, Showtime, Cinemax---one of them damn high-priced channels (Mini-series) because I have never read something so dark and delicious.

This was an early birthday present for me from Celia and I surely appreciated it! This read was amazing and I can't wait for The next chapter coming sometime in the Spring, if I'm not mistaken. Please follow Celia on Twitter, Instagram, and Face Book to keep up with her hot works and giveaways. Her books are available on Amazon and the Kindle App.

See you soon, Mr. Vinemont :)

To say I was left gagging for this book after reading Counsellor is an understatement. I read this book in one sitting, stayed up until 12:30 on a school night and read it in 3 and a half hours and my heart was racing the entire time!!

From the start there is drama, suspense and tension, I was hooked straight away. Stella is living with Lucias at the beginning but the thought of the Christmas Acquisiton trial weighs heavily on her. Which isn't suprising because even I was dreading to hear what the trial would entail. You're basically made to think it's disgusting and sick and to be honest, you'd not be wrong to think that because that is the case! The baddies in this book are disgusting people who have no morals what so ever. This book shocks even more than the last but you gain even more understanding of why the Vinemonts are in this situation and it really just highlights how amazingly strong Stella is!

I loved how you watch Sin's feelings evolve, as hard as he fights it, I can really feel his relationship with Stella progress and I'm hoping so much that he redeems his actions in the end! I really do want him to turn it around, I'm crossing all my fingers!! He's kind of hard not to crush on!!

Celia's writing is brilliant, she provides perfect amounts of description but is great at getting to the point. The sex scenes are perfection! Hot, dirty, sexy and delicious! It's great that one minute you're pulling repulsed faces at the thought of what the trial holds and the next you're crossing your legs while a boy does something swoon worthy!

The cliffhanger is a corker!! I was like 'WHAT!!??!?' and then I was like 'NOOOOOOO!!!' and then I was all up in Celia's grill like 'HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME?!!', then I moved past it and recalled how epic the book was and continued to recall its epicness for days after.

This book was just completely nail biting, the dark bits are darker, the sexy bits are sexier, I was tense the whole time, I couldn't sleep right after I finished it, and it was playing through my head the whole day after!! It consumed me!! I just LOVED it, I'm completely hooked. I can't wait for Sovereign, I NEED to know how it ends!

Revelations.

Now this second book I much preferred, I am now warming more to sin after some of his actions in magnate, especially with the big cliffhanger at the end of book one. We now understand why the trials for sovereign are so important to him and he will do anything to win, the stakes are that high. but then he has to spoil it with his stupid big gob and say something super mean to Stella , Yeh Yeh Mr multiple personality disorder stop giving me whiplash. Lucius is strange still can not decide about him he's seems a lot colder than sin Teddy well he's adorable a real sweetie and a lovely friend to our poor acquisition. Dylan the stepbrother grrrrr total douche can I throw things at him like hard , he made me want to commit bloody violence. I am now looking forward to the next installment to this series I have a feeling little Stella is gonna kick some butt, I hope the whole high society gets there just dessert's bunch of privileged overindulged scum bags the lot of them, and I for one will be chuckling gleefully when it happens.

Oh my lordy!

I have to thank my Goodreads friend Candace for introducing me to this series, it is amazing. I sat up all night reading this book and was a little disappointed that it ended on a cliffhanger. Ugh!

This story goes more in depth about the reason Sinclair Vinemont, employed Stella as his acquisition. It also opens up into the lives of the other two brothers, Teddy and Lucius.

Teddy is the youngest, sweet and innocent to everything around him, it was obvious that his brother protected him from the hidden secret that haunted their family. Lucius is confident and arrogant and has lust-filled eyes for Stella. He convinces her to switch hands and be his acquisition and she does. Sinclair(sexy beautiful man), is not only jealous of Stella making the choice, but it also worried. His brother Lucius has no clue what he is up against and Sin doesn't wany any of his brothers tangled up in what is about to happen.

“I was weak. You made me weak. From the first moment I saw you, you were a fucking poison.”

Magnate started two weeks after Stella made a decision to choose Lucius, where Counsellor left off. And seriously, I was already in despair reading all that. I understand where Stella stands, the betrayal she felt, the desolation, the hot and cold treatment with Sin and above all, the want to survive.

Sinclair Vinemont. I hate and love him at the same time. The small amount of tenderness and compassion he shows, the warmth. It’s like I wanted them, catch them away before the go away. But they were like a figment of imagination, one moment there, the next second it was gone. Still there’s something about a man being possessive and the ‘mine’ thing that gets to me.
“I need you to come back to me.”

Stella Rousseau. She is trying to be vindictive but the piece of hope sometimes slips in and breaks away the wall she is trying to build and destroys her heart into broken pieces. But I admire Stella for being brave, showing compassion, and the strength she have within.

Although the build up to the Christmas trial was too long for my liking, because the anticipation is killing me, and damn if my heart wasn’t beating too fast for my liking, all I’ve seen of it and felt for it was depravity. It makes me want to be hateful of that higher echelon society and all that’s a part of it. With all of them rotten to the core.

I somehow kind of hated that I didn’t know the seven rules and why Sin is so adamant to take a great matter of importance to the tradition. Or why he was so closed off and seems desperate to just take the burden of running in the Acquisition. I wish I knew because the suspense is killing me.

But, as they always say, curiosity killed the cat. My heart was left broken into a million pieces.

Is it Sovereign’s release day yet?

I was panting, caught up in a man who was no better than the devil I’d given my heart to.

Well, holy shit...

**** 4 Very Fucked Up Seductive Lip Bites ****

description

I don't really like reviewing serials like this per book, so I'm doing this ONE little review and that's all folks.

description

This is a series of 3.5 books (Sinclair is where to begin). These books all end in cliffhangers (with the exception of the last book, obvs... duh) and they must be read as one long story. That being said... string them all together, and we're talking some serious reading time.

description

Some might ask, "That's one long ass story, Angie! Will I be engaged the whole time? Or, will I end up being bored with the story?"

Well, Some (Some... that's your name for right now if you asked this question mentally, or hell, out loud... not judging, I talk to myself out loud on the regular), I can tell you I was not once bored with this story. Holy shit... not once! I read this series straight through with zero... Z-E-R-O time between books. My house be damned, my poor family fending for themselves because

"THIS LADY CANNOT BE BOTHERED! CAN'T YOU SEE THAT STELLA, SIN, AND THE REST OF THE FICTIONAL CHARACTERS IN THIS FICTIONAL FUCKED UP WORLD ARE DEALING WITH SOME SERIOUS SHIT GOING DOWN RIGHT NOW! MORE SERIOUS THAN YOUR NEED FOR FOOD AND CLEAN CLOTHES! DAMN, PRIORITIES PEOPLE... PRIORITIES!"

Okay... it wasn't like that, but it was a few days of headaches from my eyes being glued to a Kindle and not much else.

description

Now... this story is dark, depraved, super edgy, screwed the freak up and will mostly not work for the masses. So many triggers... so many! If you worry at all about triggers in a book, I can PROMISE you, this book isn't for you. Fully read the disclaimer in the book blurb and understand what you'll be getting into. It's super dark. Like, "Oh shit, I'm stuck in this underground mine by my lonesome and my only flashlight just went out" kind of dark. If you have read and liked Pepper Winters Indebted series, this series might just be for you.

Overall I like it, though some scene really bothers me but it didn't let me stop reading it, I like the mystery behind this "Acquisition" thing. Stella I can consider her a bad-ass woman for the things done to her and still continue to be strong. As for Sin I like him when he's sweet to Stella but then again obligation comes first. Looking forward to book 3 come this April.
