A 30-PAGE STANDALONE NOVELETTE SET IN THE HEARTBLAZE WORLD
Ash, a high school senior from a broken home, performs an act of kindness that forces her into hiding. Now she’s living in the woods, training dogs to guard livestock. She soon discovers that she’s not alone in the forest. A dark, malignant beast is preying on her beloved animals. As Ash edges toward despair, a mysterious stranger appears…
Magnus, a werewolf from the nearby town of Corby, claims he is hunting the beast, but he knows more that he’s saying. His connection to Ash, and his desire for her, take her by surprise.
Their forbidden attraction captures the attention of Corby’s dangerous Gray Wolves, a council of elder shifters determined to keep humans and werewolves apart. If necessary, they won’t hesitate to eliminate Ash, if the beast doesn’t get her first.
To survive, Ash must balance the needs of her heart with the necessities of survival. If she fails, she’ll meet a gruesome end in a forest without pity.
This is a werewolf story that depicts both human and animal deaths. It is not appropriate for children.

Shay Roberts, a USA Today bestselling fantasy author, has a reputation for writing page-turning novels with captivating characters.
Shay began writing as a child, scribbling stories on the walls of the family home. In ink. As you can imagine, they were poorly received. But when the young author moved to pencil and paper, a career was born.
The medieval world is a frequent setting for the writer’s works. Passionate about Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA), Shay founded the Academy of Arms, a nonprofit medieval martial arts school in Los Angeles. As an instructor, the author developed expertise in various dueling weapons, including the longsword and pollaxe, and later discovered these skills are counterproductive in office situations.
Shay is also an instrument-rated pilot with a diverse educational background, including an MA in Screenwriting, a BS in Biology, and a BA in English. This is another way of saying Shay never wanted to leave college and join the “real world.”
When not slaving over a new novel, the author plays open-world RPGs and explores the latest tech gadgets. Shay enjoys a healthy lifestyle that includes cooking, working out, fermenting vegetables, and brewing kombucha. The writer’s cherry-ginger kombucha has been particularly well-received.
The author finds Pomskies and Russian Blues to be the most adorable of all creatures and will duel anyone who says otherwise. As an animal lover, there is always a place in Shay’s books for another furry friend.
Currently, the author spends much of the year in Portugal, embracing the culture and learning the language. É muito difícil! With its rich history, picturesque landscapes, and friendly people, Portugal is the perfect place for writing spellbinding novels. Be advised, if you ever want to visit this lovely country, you are required to love futebol and swear allegiance to Ronaldo.
An interesting concept and solid beginning are let down by the length of this very short novelette. I like short. I love short. But it has to be right for the story. This story really needs more development. It needs at least 20 more pages. But instead of that we get insta-love and a free SUV. There is enough good in this story that I'm curious about the author but the abruptness of the ending makes me hesitate.
So sweet novella, with a lovely heroine Ash who is a unique and different character and Magnus the fierce Alpha werewolf!!! I loved it, i wanted more....i didn't realize when i finished it, i was so drawn by the story not only that but it has a big twist...
The author created a wonderful story and the thing i loved most about the heroine was her innocent, pure vibe and her love about animals it was so touching. I definitely recommend this novella you'll certainly love it and i'm hoping to see these in another story, i'd love to she how their attraction will evolve.
This short story was quite good. Much better than I was expecting. Normally I'm not a big fan of short stories, but now and then I find an Author who seems to really know how to write, a good shot story, Shay Roberts is one of them. This is about a young girl, her life and struggles.
Pretty good read. Definitely a one-sitter and good for an anytime read. Basics are there, although it doesn't go too in-depth, some background, emotions, a little action, and a hopeful ending. This one kinda leaves you hangin' though. Interesting and has me more curious to read more in the series than potty-dance anxious. Have fun
A smart, self-reliant heroine takes center stage in this novelette, and the story that unfolds is engaging and refreshingly free of cliches and over-used tropes. While self-contained, the story leaves you wanting more. Much more! Bring back Ash!
I love this book the story was breathtaking. The only sad part was getting to the end and realizing this amazing book ended. I would very much recommend this book to anyone.
A competent hunter Ash Kinley knows what to look for when patrolling her land on the outer limits of Corby. Training up her seven month old pup Cerberus, Ash hopes to sell him to get the money to buy and train (for sale) a full litter just like him, to start up a small business because she's good with animals. Its Cerbie that first alerts her to the kill and it's prone form lying in the neighbouring property.
Noting the full size deer, the kill will supply a season of dried meat if she can recover it and it hasn't been dead for too long. An alcoholic mother she left sitting by her father's dead body, killed by the dogs he continually beat as he did her, life is one of sparcity and filled with nightmares. Knowing the Police would kill the dogs, Ash fled her home in Pennsylvania, loving the animals more than she did her parents. A past Ash tries to ignore but in sleep is unable to do so. Little did she realise that bringing back the deer would irrevocably change her life forever.
The predator sneaks in and kills, leaving behind a WH scratched into the floor of her barn. The following actions she must take result in a meeting with Magnus, a guy easy on the eye from the neighbouring Corby. It's Magnus who alerts Ash to her town coined name Wolfheart, for her way with animals and her strong attitude to life; and this book's namesake. Her quick mind makes the connection before Magnus realises his error: WH - WolfHeart.
As Ash gets information out of him over a meal and a few beers, we learn this is the same Magnus, brother to Anders, who Stefan spoke with about the Demon of Corby who'd possessed Anders. Once again the few degrees of separation in storylines is revealed; Vampire Rising again provides the characters. And thus its through the Wolfheart story that we come to learn the events behind Magnus' wounding at his brother's hands and the battle of the demon of Corby.
Ash’s life is hard. She separates herself from parents who don’t care for her and starts a new life on a small farm in Corby with her dogs. When something kills some of her livestock, she prepares to fend off the beast but then she meets Magnus. Just as her attraction for him builds she finds that he may just be the beast that savaged her animals. This is an unusual paranormal story, and it teaches us a little about the town of Corby and the paranormal world that Roberts has created. The characters are strong even for such a small word count and it definitely got me interested enough to read more of Roberts’ work.
Language: PG13 (23 swears, 0 "f"); Mature Content: PG13; Violence: PG13 Since its publication, this novelette has been expanded into a full-length novel, and I wonder if I might like that version better. I felt like there wasn't enough time in these pages to get to know the characters, their motivations, their connections. This short story just wasn't very satisfying. The mature content rating is for alcohol abuse and nudity; the violence rating is for child abuse, battle, and death.
I purchased this story today and read it right away. I'm really hoping the author is planning more WOLFHEART STORIES. I'm not normally crazy over YA stories but hey the heroine is eighteen close enough. The story sucked me right in. It felt like i was right there. I WANT MORE.
Intriguing for such a short novella. I would have liked a little more content to develop the conflict between the parties, but it was gripping for the short 30 pages it is. I enjoyed the flashbacks and trying to figure out how she ended up where she was - but it was a bit creepy at times in some of the scenes because you had so little to go off of.
I loved this book. The writing was easy to follow, I understood the characters and their places in the book. Ash was a late blooming werewolf who loved and trained dogs. She left home after an incident with her father at the age of 17. She had to assist the town of Corby to maintain their wolf forms. This is not written as most shifter stories are and that made it fun to read.
A quick novel to read; read it in a half hour. Loved it! I liked Ash Kinley because she's a strong lead with a love for dogs, and I'm intrigued by Magnus's character too. I'll definitely be looking into the other novels, and I'll definitely tell my werewolf- and dog-loving friends about this! Perhaps they'll read it too?
I gave this book a rating of 5 because I loved it. I liked how at the right moment she remembers something special . I recommend this book to anyone that loves werewolves.
Interesting, realistic main character. It jumps right into tension. A couple spots felt a little rushed, like the author was trying to get under a wordcount. Not quite as emotionally invested in the relationship of the main characters. Excellent short, will read more.
I didn't love this book. I got it for free and figured I'd give it a read. The plot wasn't bad. The romance is honestly what ruined it for me. It is a short story that has been turned into a full length book from what I understand. I don't see myself reading any of the other books.
