Let's not mince words here: most business writing is tedious, pompous and bereft of the tiniest sliver of personality. It's near impossible for customers to cut through the "innovative solutions" and "passion for customer service," and find out who can actually give them what they need.
For the business owner who's willing to do something different, though, it represents a major - and inexpensive - competitive advantage.
May I Have Your Attention, Please? lays out 12 simple principles that allow business owners - even those with no writing experience - to attract and enchant their dream customers. With clear and concise explanations of what works and why, and examples of the best and worst text out there, you'll have all the tools you need to turn readers into buyers into raving fans. Give your writing skills an instant upgrade
In this short book, you'll learn: Simple techniques to turn your dull-as-dishwater business marketing into "can't resist" copy - even if you don't think of yourself as a "good writer." How to make price irrelevant and be the only choice for your ideal customer - by changing nothing except your copywriting. The business writing "rules" you should revel in breaking. Why copying your competitors is a dangerous waste of time... and what to do instead (without spending hours searching for ideas). The easily avoidable mistakes that are turning your customers off - even if they don't know it. A simple framework to help you blast through writer's block and know exactly what to say in any piece of writing. How to "read your customers' minds," and get them looking for reasons to buy from you. Who is this book for? Business owners looking to breathe more life into their website, content marketing or sales materials. Employees who want to gain a new skill and have more impact in their work. Anyone who has something great to offer - but is struggling to get the message across.
This short book is an excellent guide on how to write online and how to present your business to readers. If you've hemmed and hawed about what you'll write or felt a vague sense of dissatisfaction with your website, pick this book up and read it. And make sure you sing up for the business writing bootcamp, because those emails will help you implement what the author is sharing in the book. I have this found book to be invaluable. It's helping me with my rebranding and its a must have for any business owner.
Clear and interesting. Most of it is common sense, but sometimes you need to hear that. I'm not sure I learned how to write persuasive copy, but it's given me an idea of what is needed. Now, I need to practise.
Great short&sweet guidance on how to write attention grasping copyright and how to stand out in overfilled market.
“If you “help businesses build better solutions,” or you ”help businesses succeed,” or you ”offer integrated solutions,” or you “craft experiences,” or you ”engage with businesses and customers,” or you ”drive innovation,” or you ”advocate an entrepreneurial environment,” or you ”deliver measurable results,” or you ”create organisational efficiencies,” or you “solve business challenges,” or you ”help businesses concentrate on what they do best,” or you offer ”bespoke” or ”tailored” service, or you ”focus on customer engagement”… please stop. No one has a clue what you actually do- and there’s a chance you don’t either.”
A great guide to marketing and advert copywriting.
This book is essential if you’re not a writer but are writing anything for your personal brand the public will see. That being said, I am a copywriter and I found it useful as a brush-up on things I’ve forgotten and a nudge toward some tactics I haven’t been using. It’s full of straightforward steps to make your words awesome and creative. And not sloppy. Totally a worthwhile read.
You can tell a how to book is useful, when halfway through you put it down to go and implement what it says. Which is exactly what I did. I dashed off to rewrite my 'about' page on my website then came back and finished the book. All in one morning!
Very informative. Best of all, it's a short read. Mish was direct to the point. She didn't have to include so many anecdotes to prove her points. Definitely a good book to learn from if you do marketing of any kind. Highly recommended!
I love how Mish did not give the reader a hard time, but dropped timely gems every step of the way. Trust me, reading this book will UP your writing game for a lifetime. Thanks for this masterpiece.
Going through this book I learnt a lot. There are some brilliant examples and great resources and the writing style throughout the book was fun and informative.
I struggle often with finding those captivating words and phrases for my website, social media posts and blogs, so I am a huge fan of awesome copy. I love to digest how authors framed a concept that grabbed my attention. Anytime a solopreneur, an entrepreneur or a company puts a lot of effort into their copy, I have huge respect for them. This is no easy task! In a world of true distraction, developing a method for grabbing a reader's attention is a skill we should all seek to acquire.
I enjoyed the perspective of this author in learning to write like a human and not a robot. In these pages, the author reminds the reader how important it is to know what is unique about your company and who your ideal client is so you can speak to them in a natural, human way. She has a chapter on being human in her book, that's how important the topic is!
If you are still writing boring copy - or if you find that people are simply not spending enough time on your website or on your blog - you could probably use the wonderful advice laid out in the pages of this book.
Wow! Excellent book on writing with the purpose of engaging with potential customers and selling to them. You would think it's easy, but it's really not; just because you know how to write, doesn't mean you know how to write well (as I had originally thought!)
The author gives fantastic tips on how to pinpoint the essentials of the company/product and represent this in a fun and interesting way to ensure a good deal for all. She also includes many examples of good copy and bad copy and how both can be improved and throws in some grammar tips too for good measure. I love how the book is very concise too. It's came along at the right time as I'm starting a career in copywriting!
A (9.1 out of 10 Stars). A quick and dirty look at how to do Business writing using common sense and conversational english. Very good practical advice with many real world examples of both the good and the bad.
Too short, too elementary - it's in Kindle Unlimited so I can't really complain but it's basically just a warm transfer to the author's copywriting business. Can't blame her for trying, but I wouldn't recommend it.
