"Burned" by LJ Charles is the moving tale of an emotionally scarred man in his seventies wanting to commemorate a special day that happened fifty years ago with a tattoo. He had no idea that he and the artist had shared a past that had affected them both profoundly.

This is Fred's story; if you are a fan of the later Everly Gray books, you will know who Fred is. For those of you who do not already follow Everly, Fred is a super secret operative who handled and protected Everly's parents and later Everly. In this touching tale that revolves around a tattoo we learn about the darkest pain in Fred's past but we also meet an intriguing young woman who has questions. How they help one another creates a beautiful story. I understand that this story is the lead in for a new series, I am exciting to discover more about where this goes.

A Look At The Past

I gave this short story a five because it gives Fred/Andrew a life outside of the secret stuff and you get to see what makes him tick and you also get to see the pain he has held onto through his life.

Sadie is part of the past that Andrew does not want to remember. She brings out everything he has decided to put down so far that it burns.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in learning more about Fred.

This is Fred's story and it is a good one. If you read the series, you know Fred. If you don't it stands alone. It was a quick read and added a level of humanity to very complex character,
