Pass Judgment: Inside the Seattle Seahawks' Super Bowl XLIX Season and the Play That Dashed a Dream

Rate this book
One yard from a second straight championship, the Seattle Seahawks made one of the biggest mistakes in sports history, throwing an interception to lose Super Bowl XLIX to the New England Patriots. Instead of hiding from national ridicule, Coach Pete Carroll embraced the pain and used it as an opportunity to teach his ultra-competitive team about the quality he inspires the most in persistence. Pass Judgment is a poignant portrait of grit, an inside look at the Seahawks' taxing 2014 journey to the Super Bowl, the bond it restored, the heartache of losing and the arduous process to recover. How do you live with the worst error of your life? This is the story of how a proud team, led by a relentless coach, digested failure.Jerry Brewer is a sports columnist for The Washington Post. Before joining The Post in June 2015, he worked for The Seattle Times, where he wrote opinions about the entire Seattle sports scene for nearly nine years and chronicled the Seahawks' rise to NFL prominence under Pete Carroll. Before Seattle, he worked at The Courier-Journal in Louisville, Ky., The Orlando Sentinel and The Philadelphia Inquirer. He has received awards for his work from numerous journalism organizations, including the American Association of Sunday and Features Editors, Associated Press Sports Editors, Society of Professional Journalists, Best of the West and National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association. He lives in Arlington, Va., with his wife, Karen, and sons, Miles and Austin.Cover design by Adil Dara

I never know what to expect from Kindle Singles. They are always good for a quick read, but sometimes the quality will not always be good. Not the case with this book on not only the fateful play of Super Bowl XLIX,but also contains good information on the Seattle Seahawks and the head coach Pete Carroll. A lot of information contained in just 51 pages.

Excellent insight into both the Seahawks' Super Bowl-winning season and the heartbreaking following year. Jerry Brewer gives great details that the average fan like me didn't know going on behind the scenes of the team.

Go Hawks

Good read about the Seahawks. Even a few years later this book helps me understand why the Seahawks do what they do.

Interesting freebie!

This was an interesting freebie and insight into the capitulation that was the former Seahawks. I didn’t feel like i learnt anything particularly new but the in-depth team information was useful!

I enjoyed this quick read!

I like the format of this book, quick and to the point. Not only is the story fascinating, but I found some nuggets of valuable life lessons. The story is every bit as much about resilience as it is about Seattle's memorable loss. I hope to read more books like this from the author and from others .

Easy read, but nothing new here.

Jerry Brewer, certainly a good writer, gives a recap in Pass Judgment that an avid Seahawks fan will recognize just from having followed team articles during the Carroll era. It's an easy read that you can have done in 90 minutes or less, but it won't tell you anything you didn't already know if you follow the team closely, a description that likely matches most who are interested in this book.

Very honest description of the season with excellent behind the scenes information. One gets a clearer sense of the players and coaches. Enjoyable read for anyone with a good interest in professional football. Being a Patriots' fan did not hurt.

Sad, but true. Pete is always building toward the future. This book gives more insight into the mind of Pete.
