Kaffe Fassett's Quilts in Italy: 20 Designs from Rowan for Patchwork and Quilting

Rate this book
Che bella! Kaffe’s inspiration for the 20 new quilts in this book was drawn from the exquisite, richly colored villages of Cinque Terre on the Italian Riviera. The region, with its terracotta walls and handsome black and white churches set off by jewel-like glimpses of the Mediterranean, is beautifully reflected in the colors and patterns created by Kaffe and his team of designers. The glorious array of designs featured in Kaffe Fassett's Quilts in Italy are all made using classic as well as new fabrics from the Kaffe Fassett Fabric Collection―subtle or bold, simple or complex, all of the designs come together with emblematic Kaffe Fassett flair. Choose from the delicious ice-cream colors and traditional piecing of Kaffe’s own Lacy Log Cabin, the bold and contrasting colors and forms of Scaffold, the almost dizzying complexity of Chiaroscuro, with its four-in-one style piecing, and many more eye-catching designs. In addition to the gallery of quilts , the book provides detailed information on how to make each featured quilt, along with general practical patchwork and quilting information and a visual summary of Kaffe’s latest fabrics.

Besides seeing this designer's vibrant, beautiful fabrics used in lovely quilts designed by himself and other designers, I enjoyed his excitement about using his fabrics to make new quilts using vintage block patterns.

Great instructions, patterns, and templates are provided.

I borrowed this book from our local public library.

Oh so beautiful! I can't possibly put colors together the way this guy does, but I am having fun getting reacquainted with my fabric stash from the attic.

I checked out this book from my local library and am so glad I did. It contains one of my top two favorite quilt designs in his collections (not actually by him): “Losing My Marbles.” But then, I prefer bright colors and modern designs; I do not care for traditional quilt designs or traditional fabric prints in muted colors. I also like “Scaffold”, though its design is completely different (a diagonal grid of sashing; see book cover). All of Fassett’s fabrics are gorgeous of course, as are the landscapes photographed.

Since my very early days of quilting I have been entranced with Kaffe Fassett's intense color palette, creative quilt designs, and scrappy technique. From this book I made several of the Wagon Wheels blocks which I incorporated into a postage stamp quilt. Easy to follow instructions and good templates.

Travel, color, fabric...porn, it's all addictive color joy! This one's a beaut! Joyful, this book is just plain joyful. You can enjoy these books even if you don't sew...but look enough and you will want to! I love that there are almost always at least 1-2 quilts that are simple to do, it's the colors and the placement that make them stunners (you can do this!).

I love the colours he and his friends use to create his fabrics!! His quilts may be on the simple side but they also how off the wonderful prints. It's wonderful to see someone not afraid of colour!! Inspiring!!
