Danielle "Danny" Felts knew that she wasn't like all the other girls and wanted something different for her life. Danny decided to join the army posing as a young man and happen to meet Kate Adams at a dance. They instantly connect, however, they face many obstacles.
This is the first book I've read by Kim Pritekel but the second time I've read this book and I enjoyed it just as much as the first time. This author made me feel different emotions throughout Danny and Kate's journey and that's a plus in my book.
I thought that the two main characters had believable chemistry and enjoyed their romance both in the past and the present. It wasn't always dandy and roses which I appreciated.
Pritekel was able to write a good supporting cast as well. Allison, Kate's daughter Megan, Mike, Carol, etc, were all interesting to read and added to the story. Oh how I hated George's character with a passion (for several good reasons too!).
Although I liked the book a lot and would recommend to fellow readers, I must warn others that Zero Ward has a lot of flashbacks and it is not always in sequence so it's important to pay attention to the date.
Zero Ward is a truly wonderful 5 star story, it would make a awesome audiobook! First published in 2016 this book is one to add to your reading list if you missed it. It is historical setting from the 1940's to 1970's. Danny joins the Navy as a man for WWII. Life is a series of events that is told by mixing a look back at previous years with how current life is progressing. I highly recommend this book for insomniacs and anyone waiting hours.. Once you start reading you won't want to put it down. The story has that certain spark that takes it over the top. Highly Recommend !
Reading this book took me back to a time in my life. I joined the US Navy and boot camped in Orlando, Florida and then I went to Hospital Corps School in Great Lakes Military Base . This base has closed now and Kim took me back to that time in my life with just one sentence!
