How many Catholic souls have been lost over these past fifty years? How many have walked away from the Catholic faith either for a false religion or for no religion at all? And why does practically no one in the Church ever speak in these terms anymore?
The Church has lost Her self-understanding; Catholics no longer understand who they are, what their role in history is, or what is their proper relationship to God. This has come about as the result of a devastating demolition of Catholic life, where Catholics cohabit, contracept, divorce, and abort at the same rate as non-Catholics, and in some cases at even higher rates.
Today's bishops are in a state of what one Canadian bishop has called "managing the decline." And there appears to be no end in sight to the decline. The culture has turned against Catholic morality and will soon turn completely against the Church itself. Litigation, legislation, and other forms of organized attacks will soon force Catholics to choose between apostasy and martyrdom.
This book is meant to help Catholics understand the nature of the crisis and the failure of leadership that has brought it about, and awaken Catholics to the serious need to get our spiritual lives in order if we wish to gain Heaven.
Overall, the book was decent. The issues Voris presents in the book are indeed problematic. I hope many Roman Catholic bishops and priests will get a chance to read this book.
The only major gripe is that he has no bibliography, footnotes, or even endnotes to go to check his sources. It was the only reason I could only give his book four stars instead of five.
I’m a catholic from Poland and for me, living in the country where bishops and priests in general try to be faithful revelations about US church and scandals and distortions are really hearth breaking. But reading “Militant” reminded me that no country, no man or woman can say they are not involved or won’t have to encounter such problems. We all already are encountering them! Micheal Vorris perfectly shows why we all need to stand up, fight this spiritual and moral battle and grow to be what we are expected to be. Militant is not a book which tries to be polite and non-offensive for anyone. It is a wake up call, especially for laity. And a really good one. One star taken for some misconceptions about women (in relation to women’s movement and it’s ideas) and lack of annotations for non-US reader. But in overall I’d love to see “Militant” translated into my language and to be popularized. It’s definitely a must read for every Catholic all over the world.
Everything that is said in this book is very true, however I feel that this book comes across as very preachy and hard to read. I feel it comes from a place of anger. I feel that if I gave this book to a person thinking of becoming Catholic they might reconsider becoming Catholic because it is a very deep and dense read. I agree with everything that is said in the book from the soul destroying bishops to the lack of talk on moral issues and hell but I believe in meeting people where they are at and gradually help them build their faith. The book comes across as scary and gives me a feeling that there is no hope when I know there is hope and forgiveness for people who are willing to change, through the sacrament of confession.
Michael Voris isn't everyone's favorite man, and he's fine with that. This book handles some uncomfortable truths about being Catholic in today's society, and does so directly with little concern with how you feel about hearing it.
If you believe in the eternal truths taught by the Church, shouldn't you do all you can to teach those truths to those around you, especially when it means the difference of eternal happiness and damnation? Shouldn't you be more concerned with the souls of those near to you than whether you're liked?
Michael Voris does, and he's hated for it. He'd have it no other way. God love you.
Outstanding because it clarified the situation of the Catholic Church. I enjoyed reading 📚 about the history and what led up to where the church is at today. I learned about the causes and reasoning behind the church of nice. Fascinating book.
Incredibly blunt and truthful and a lot to digest. Will be reading it a second or more times. Michael Voris really gives a one/two punch to every Catholic out there stuck in the "Church of Nice."
What that all Catholics read and would heed this book's message. The Lord calls us to pick up our cross and follow him. The way is narrow, but we have been given the Grace to tread it, though it be strewn with barbs. May we all be saved.
