Sterling Shore #8

Identical Disaster

Rate this book
JAX

My life was simple... until Bo Brendon crashed into my lap. Shy girls aren't my thing, yet somehow, she's under my skin and in my head. It's a f*cking nightmare. Yet it's a nightmare I don't want to give up.

BOLIVIA (BO)

Jax Marshall was an accident. A really sexy, smart, incredibly smooth, hot... accident. He's the kind of guy you shouldn't fall in love with, because he could crush you with barely any effort. Especially someone like me. Either it will be the best thing to ever happen to me, or it will be the disaster that leaves me in ruins.

I guess I'll find out.

I didn't enjoy this one as much as I've enjoyed other books in the series, but I still liked and appreciated it for what it was. It had a bit of a slow roll start and middle, but really improved after that.

I thought the climax moment was arguable a little weak, but I still appreciated the angst it spurred. Overall, I really liked Bo and Jax together and there was some decent grovel toward the end, so there's that. I mean, I could always go for more, but it was decent enough.

I've already started the next one. Bella and Ethan have SO much potential for greatness.

(Bolivia) Bo -

I let him pull me up, and I don’t protest when he laces our fingers together.
“Your dad says there’s a private cove somewhere around here. Feel like a little fun?” he asks, bouncing his eyebrows suggestively.
Pretty sure my feet turn into lead, because they stop moving, and I fall. Face first. Into the sand.
Told you I suck at life.
“Shit!” Jax says around a laugh, losing his grip on my hand as I slowly raise up, seeing sand on the ends of my eyelashes and tasting the grit of it on my lips.
“You okay, babygirl?” Dad calls from down the beach. I turn to see the asshole grinning at me knowingly.
Some fathers want to pinch off a guy’s head off for screwing their daughters. My dad made jokes like he would, but then he tells Jax about the sex cove. That’s what Bora has always called it.
My dad is the kind of dad who is loving the hell out of the fact I’m pretending to be the reckless, sexy Bora, when… Hell, I can’t even remember the last time I had sex.
Jax hauls me back to my feet and back to my current situation, and I glare daggers at my smiling father.
“You okay?” Jax asks, still chuckling while wiping some of the sand off my face.
“I can’t swim,” I blurt out randomly.
“Yes you can,” he says, confused. “We swam at my gym’s pool… Remember? It was the one and only time you’ve come to the gym.”
He arches a brow, and I clear my throat. “I mean I can’t swim today.”
See? I suck at being deceptive. And improv is so not my strong suit.
“Why?” he asks slowly, looking at me like the sand has somehow made me lose IQ points.
“Because… Sharks!”
Yeah… Said that too loudly.
Mrs. Marshall starts screaming, “Where?! Sharks! Where?”
Freaking eh.

I struggled to finish this which is not the norm for CM Owens.

Neither of the main characters were very interesting, and the story and main twist dragged.

Bo. She honestly made this story for me. She had funny moments, sweet moments, and very insightful moments...
I suck at lying. I suck at pretending to be Bora. I suck at life right now.
I’m unable to stop myself from falling for him, and he doesn’t even want to think about a future.
I hate the fact people mistake my “nice” demeanor as being weak.
I really enjoyed the beginning and watching the two of them come together. I was glad that Jax wasn't brushing off all the discrepancies, and even though he thought he sounded crazy he knew something was wrong and was entertaining the possibilities (however unlikely).

The one thing that didn't really work for me? Jax. I didn't dislike him but I didn't love him either. He seemed a little one dimensional and he had a quick temper which caused him to say nasty things, but for some reason that didn't really flow with his personality for me. I don't know how to explain it other than I just wasn't feeling it, which made the "dark" moment a little tough to swallow because it felt forced. I did love how Bo reacted to it though and as always this author knows how to grip your emotions and leave you drained. I was crying for a good part of the last bit. I felt so bad for Bo, for not only Jax's crap but also her family's past treatment. So I thought the aftermath and ending was handled very well. There was just that disconnect to the hero for me.

It was a nice addition to the series and I can't wait for more :)

Also loved this...

Fun premise with the twin swap. It lagged in the middle. Way too much time spent on backstories of random side characters. The big fight/break up seemed like a bit of an over reaction from everyone. I thought the end was cute though. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Bottom line? It was cute. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Captivating!!! Hilarious!!! BookSmacked!!!

I am still recovering a week later from this book. C.M. Owens continues to put out Amazing reads. This book is a great mixture of comedy and angst which to me is a prize winning formula for a deliciously fantastic book.

Identical Disaster is the 8th book in the Sterling Shore Series by C.M. Owens. However this book can be read as a standalone and has a dual POV.

The main characters are Boliva (Bo) and Jax. What happens when a favor leads to a unexpected series of misfortunate events, well hilarity and trouble ensues.

This book will have you hooked from the get go and you will have no choice but to find out what happens and how it all pans out.

Along the way you will meet some piss yourself laughing characters and they will forever alter how you look at certain things. (no spoilers here so I will leave it at that, but trust me when I tell you some things will never be the same.)

Jax is swoon worthy as is expected when reading a C.M. Owens book. She is brilliant when it comes to writing male leads that will make you clutch your heart and sigh out loud. Jax is no different.

Bolivia (Bo), this may be one of the best female leads so far from this series. I found myself instantly connected to her. CM takes you on a journey of discovery with this character. Bo was sweet, she is a pushover and through out this book you watch Bo discover who she is and what she wants in life.

This book takes you through an emotional journey. I laughed, I cried, I cheered out loud, I had moments where I felt a physical pain in my chest.

This book is a must read. A must re-read. I didn't put it down, I read it in one sitting. And days later I picked it up and went through the journey all over again.

CM continues to write brilliant thought provoking, laugh your ass off books that will leave you panting for more. She is truly an author that is worth reading, again and again and again

Note: I was provided with an ARC in exchange for an honest review. And in my honest opinion you must must get this book

There have been so many times throughout this series where I have changed my mind about who my favourite is, I have to say Jax and Bo have knocked them all down a peg! These two definitely steal the top spot on my list.

I loved Bo instantly in this book, we didn't see too much of her previously so I wasn't that sure what to expect. Bo was a pushover, she let people walk over the top of her especially her twin sister. I really felt for her at times, no one really cared about her feelings and it hurt me to read about the pain she felt.

Jax was your typical no strings attached relationship kind of guy, he wasn't looking for a relationship and that's why he was with Bora in the first place. Even though there were a few times Jax annoyed me I loved him instantly, he was just so loveable even when he was being a jerk!

I hated Cody, he was a douche nozzle and I couldn't stand him in the slightest. Even when he was wrong he wouldn't admit it and I hated the things he did.

I felt like I was living this story right alongside Bo and Jax, I felt the emotions they did and was hanging on their every word.

C.M Owens writing style really appeals to me and I love her characters. I was hoping Maverick would be next but I'm glad it's Bella and Ethan although after reading the little bit in the back of this book I'm now not so patiently waiting to read their story.

Bo, Bolivia, finds breaking up with her twin sisters boyfriends draining. Bo though feels that the soon to be ex's need closure, instead of just dumped without a word. Her newest breakup target is Jax Marshall. When Bo sees Jax, she can't help but wonder why her sister is dumping the magnificent specimen of man, she doesn't expect to be rushed on a vacation she knew nothing about with his family. Now Bo has to pretend to be her identical twin and survive the vacation with the amorous man without giving herself away.

Jax really didn't plan on spending more time with Bo, but he knows his mom hates her and it ill be fun to see the two get on one anothers nerves during a vacation he doesn't want to take. However, this Bo is completely opposite. She is sweet, vulnerable, and shy. Jax is scratching his head at why the sudden change in personality and when he figures it out he has a decision to make, does he want to pursue this chemistry between them or walk away?

This is a tie for my favorite in the series. I loved this book. Bo is sweet and when Jax tries to put on his moves with her, it is hilarious. Jax has a few moments that are laugh out loud funny as well. Great book, first I read in series and I went back and picked up more. Thrilled to find a new to me author with a ton of books to read.

Bloody Fantastic!!!!
Yet again C.M.Owens has given us an amazing story with so much to offer. Every one of her books are thoroughly enjoyable!
Identical Disaster offers a refreshingly different storyline with hilarious moments along the way. For so much of the story I just couldn't keep a smile off my face.
Bo and Jax's story starts with a hilarious lie that makes you laugh out loud with the characters, watching it play out. All of her characters have something great to offer.
As with all her books, C.M. Owens makes you feel like part of the family, every time I read her stories I feel like I'm coming home and I love it!
A must read!!!!!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I am HUGE fan of C. M. Owens so it isn't a surprise that I squeal when I know she has a new release. I can never wait to see what sexy couple in steamy compromising positions she will write about next. I also wonder what new inside joke will develop that only fans of the Sterling Shore series will understand and break into hysterics over. I never finish one of C. M. Owens books without a new book boyfriend, sore abs from laughing, and in an amorous mood. Bo and Jax fulfilled all of those and so much more. I knew when Jax was previously introduced that I wanted to get to know the hot trainer on a more personal level and Bo piqued my interest and made me want to dive deeper into her reclusive ways. Identical Disaster takes us on a hilarious, sexy ride with speedos, assless chaps, and a need for a an off the charts hot vacation of our own.

Jaxon Marshall is more than just a trainer to the elite Sterling Shore residents. We get to know him more intimately during Identical Disaster and see him in a whole new, sometimes funny, and often hot way. He has little time for romance with running his own gym and is now fulfilling a family obligation by vacationing in Hawaii. Dragging along his new girlfriend that the family dislikes is a good way to show everyone that he is in charge of his own personal life. Or at least that is what he thinks. I loved seeing inside his head and his heart. The situations that he got himself into were hilarious too. Bo and Jax are the perfect match! They are sure to leave your heart pounding and body heaving with laughter.

Bo, who is Ruby's roommate from Triple Dare, likes to fade into the background. She has always let her sister Bora take the spotlight and has often cleaned up many of her messes. But while cleaning up one of those messes, she finds herself on vacation and acting unlike herself. I loved seeing Bo come out of her shell and find her own self worth. It was empowering to see a female character become stronger as the story went on.

C. M. Owens once again proves once again that there is no character too small or insignificant to have their own story. I fall more in love with her characters from Sterling Shore with every book. I love their inappropriate jokes, witty comebacks, and outrageous antics. There is always plenty of steam and heart and each story line is unique. I highly recommend for a romance that will lighten your mood, make you fall head over heels, and leave you hot and bothered.

3.5 stars.

An almost 4 star read but unfortunately I could not get over the identical twin ordeal.

Bo and Bora are identical with the slight difference in height and huge difference in personalities.

Bora and Jax are just f buddies but Bora got bored after just 2 weeks. She gets her identical twin Bo to dump Jax for her...but this turns into Bo going on a trip with Jax with his family to Hawaii. For almost a week he thinks he is with Bora and Bo just plays into it. For a "shy" girl she sure had no problem with being cuddly and kisses on the cheek with Jax. She was REALLY into playing the part of her twin with Jax despite her being "shy". *eyeroll*

There was the visible difference in how Jax was with Bo than Bora. Bora was vapid and meant nothing to him other than a good time. No emotions, no deep connection, just sex. It was the same thing with every other woman. But with Bo from the get go he was different. That almost made it okay for me but the whole identical thing made it highly weird.

Too close for comfort and I'm generally not a fan of the hero having been with heroines sister trope anyway. Especially if said sister is your mirror image...too weird for me.

Couldn't do it

I love the sterling shore series, but out of all the hard to swallow obstacles this one was a hurtle that I couldn't jump. Our hero had had a previous relationship with our heroines sister. A relationship that was FRESH. The fact alone that he had been with a family member alone was a deal breaker, but this was her twin, and they started out with him thinking she's her sister. Now that said, this was not a bad book, it was also funny as well as a well written. It's just a hard thing to swallow for me personally. I just want to get that out there for anyone who can't handle that, and may be an, impulsive buyer who doesn't read samples first. Especially when you have a writer/series that is almost a guarantee of a good read like C.M. OWENS and her series. If the whole been with your sister a week before you, and thought you were your sister in the beginning thing doesn't bother you, then read on sister.

Book Review - Identical Disaster

I can always count on CM to write a story that gives me all the feels and a whirlwind of emotions.

I was lucky enough to receive ID during the Midwest blizzard as an ARC for an honest review. A snow day with Jax and Bo, not to shabby. As for their story this one was different from the rest, mainly because Jax and Bo aren't a key part in the "group" setting, they are friends of friends and therefore didn't know each other. I really enjoyed this component, AND not to mention the whole TWIN aspect. I thought CM did the twin story justice. I really didn't want to hate Bora, Bo or Jax for essentially being entwined and it didn't happen. There was a smooth transition with sweet, hysterical, and touching moments.

The first 30% had me laughing so hard at times I needed to set the book down and just enjoy what I was reading, take a breath and continue. But as always all good things must come to an end, but CM you're sneaky and I seriously never saw THAT hiccup in the road. I could have just slapped Jax, but what Bo gains in the interim is worth the heartache.

Now, since these two are on the outskirts of the circle (making their way in) we didn't see alot of the other couples as we do in previous books, but IMO this was very necessary since we had little to go on and background of our couple. Don't worry we still get a peek at a couple pranks, triple dares, and auto correct text messages gone horribly, hysterically wrong.

I always feel redundant when writing a Sterling Shore review "it was great" "i loved it" "blah blah blah" but really it WAS great, I DID love it, and I CAN'T wait for the next one :)

oh and PS - Vince Jaggons, I can't even.

Identical Disater is book 8 in the Sterling Shore Series. It can be read as a stand-alone but, I HIGHLY recommend you read the other 7 books as well!!!

Boliva (Bo) Brendon is the definition of a "pushover." She lets everyone take advantage of her and doesn't know how to just tell someone "no." Especially when it comes to her identical sister, Bora. So when Bora asks Bo to break up with another one of her boyfriends yet again, of course she says yes. Bo has done it so many times before, it should be a pretty easy task. Except this time she is not expecting the seriously sexy man she comes face to face with at his door.

Jaxon Marshall is your typical "I just want to have fun, no strings" type of guy, and because of this he has no clue that Bora has an identical twin sister. He thinks it is Bora who shows up at his house and they are suppose to be leaving for Hawaii with his family for 3 weeks in a couple of hours.

Being Bo and not wanting to let Jax down, she decides to just play the part of her sister and go on the vacation with him. From that moment on, you are thrown on one of the craziest roller-coaster rides of your life!

Anyone who knows me, knows C.M. Owens is absolutely one of my favorite authors ever!!!! She is #1 on my author bucket list to meet one day!! She has a talent for writing the craziest shit I have ever read but, can also make you really feel deep down in your soul. Identical Disaster just added even more fun, crazy, sexiness to the Sterling Shore Series. I felt really connected with Bo and her issue of trying to please everyone. I loved the growth she had throughout the book, and would have to say she is probably my favorite out of the heroines in this series. Jax was kind of a douche at times but, that is usually how all the men are in Sterling Shore. But of course I fell in love with him too.

C.M. Owens does it again <3

This book was another amazing story, and a 5 star read all the way. It had it all from laughter to tears and love to sorrow. I read it in one day and I must say that this is up there with my favorite Owens' books <3
C.M. is so amazingly talented and she just has a way with words...

“You’re going to have so many thoughts that contradict each other,” Ruby proceeds to tell me. “One second you’ll want to scream. The next, you’ll want to do a happy dance. One second you’ll think you’re done, and the next you’ll never want to let him go. That’s love, Bo. It’s a fucking merry-go-round that leaves you dizzy and disoriented. You’re going to want to scream and get pissed, because it’s worth it in the end. You’ll want to forget you’re even pissed when he does something stupid that makes you smile. And you’ll want to pull your hair out during all the times in between. It’ll rock your world and leave you questioning your sanity. But it’s the best feeling ever when you embrace the crazy.”

I just love this series more with every new book that comes out. This story was really enjoyable.

It is so smart to do a book about the lesser known characters every once in a while, their books just come out awesome every time.

Never thought I would like Jax so much. His and Bo's story is one of my new favorites... I say that with every new book that comes out though...

Can't wait for Ethan and Bella's story!

I read this many years ago but it has always stuck with me.

I love twins switching places books but this one might be my favorite. This is in the middle of the series so there are many past characters that make appearances. I still think it can be read as a standalone though because there’s enough of a description of each person you kind of get the gist of who they are.

So after rereading this I realized I only remembered like the first 30% of the book. I completely forgot about how much more there was to this story. So it was almost like reading it for the first time all over again. I loved it.

It makes me want to read the whole series I just wish they were audiobooks. I would devour this series if it had a couple of great narrators.

It’s dual POV, which I love in switching twins books. It’s fun to know what’s going on in both of the characters heads.

Bo, short for Bolivia, has a twin sister. Her identical twin sister is named Bora. Bo is about as opposite in personality from her sister as you can get. Bora jumps from man to man, and when she’s done she ghosts them. Bo usually is the one to end the relationship for Bora so the man at least knows what’s going on. Otherwise they keep trying to get in touch with Bora. Except this time when Bora asks her to break up with the man she’s been seeing Bo hesitates. Jax is probably the best looking man she’s ever seen. He also seems happy that Bora showed up just in time to leave for his family vacation he invited her on.

Bo is too nice and she can’t break up with this man when he seems relieved she showed up. He’s affectionate and sweet and she ends up packing a bag and getting on a plane. She decides she will make her sister come and switch places with her and fulfill her obligation to this man and his family. But Bora is selfish and she’s already moved on Jax is in the past. So Bo is stuck playing her sister. She decided to just be herself though because she’s not such a great actress.

Jax can tell right away that Bo is different, and it takes him a little while to figure it out, but I love that moment in this trope. The moment the truth is acknowledged or revealed or figured out. Then as they come to terms with it. That’s always a turning point in the book and honestly it happens somewhat early in this book given all that happens afterward.

The rest of the book is Jax learning who Bo is. And the woman is practically a saint. She is so good and sweet and she is someone he never would have gone out with had it not been for these strange circumstances. But because he is thrown together with her he finds himself more attracted to her than he has ever been to anyone else before. He starts getting jealous and possessive, and he hates being separated from her. But he also wonders what will happen when the vacation is over. They are both extremely busy in their careers and neither of them really have time for a relationship.

I love that the book doesn’t end when the vacation is over. It doesn’t just say, they lived HEA when they went home. No, we get to experience them navigating that aspect of their lives. We get to see them trying to make it work outside of being together 24/7 for 3 weeks. I loved every minute of it. I didn’t want to stop reading.

Identical Disaster

Jax: is a private person who doesn’t have time for a relationship, hates clingy girls, shy girls and quiet girls.

Bo: is an identical twin who is always looking out for others forgoing her own wants or needs to make others happy and feel wanted and appreciated.
Bo is everything Jax would normally walk away from but he cannot work out why she draws him in so much.

Identical Disaster was an amazing read, dealing with yet another break up request from her twin sister Bora – Bo sets out to break it off with Jax but what she finds when he opens his door makes her double think the task she is sent to complete. Jax has no idea that Bo is Bora’s twin when they go away on a family vacation to Hawaii, disaster strikes within the first few days and life is about to get interesting (and hilarious).
There were so many funny scenes in this book that had me snorting with laughter,
#My meat shooting moment
#My crutch would melt the Arctic – poor little penguins
# you have…….a spank room
#Tampon bouquet
#It’s you’re fake period anniversary!
#Bo is phenomenal
But this book is also so much more than a funny, laugh out loud book. It is also story about someone who is always letting people and family walk all over her, talk over the top of her and not acknowledge what she thinks or what she has to say.
Bo gets to breaking point in her life where she cannot take it anymore after a betrayal she never saw coming, she snaps and breaks but what she becomes on the other side is a new and improved Bo. Someone family and friends no longer take for granted and walk over.

This is CM Owens writing at its finest. Whenever this lady puts pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) she produces nothing less than 5 stars.

This book is full of laugh out loud, side splitting, belly ache laughter; throw in plenty of hot and steamy sex scenes, a few argh moments and a glimpse of our favourite Sterling Shore residents, and you get one of the best books of the Sterling Shore series to date.

For me this book was definitely on the lighter side of life. I love how this author can take any idea or situation and turn it into something that will have you laughing so hard you cry and then scowling at your kindle because of some stupid move by one of the drool worthy leading men, and yes it is always the men that cause the problems!

This is Jax and Bo’s story. I loved Bo, although she seems quiet and shy, she is definitely a woman not to be messed with. Jax, well what can I say about Jax, he comes across as confident and maybe a little detached emotionally, but as the story progresses you finally see the true man. There were a few moments where I just wanted to hug the characters, and not just Bo and Jax. The book has such a great line up of supporting characters that really helped to make this story an amazing 5 star read.

8th book in the series done, bring on number 9.
