Jennifer Ann seems to be developing to an author with surprises. Opening a new book of her ist starting to remind me of reading a Colleen Hoover book.
Not so much the content or the writing style – but more the fact that you KNOW that you will be surprised as the book in a series will not follow a certain plot style that you might have expected.
I vividly remember reading “Brooklyn Rockstar” the first book in the “Kendalls” series and if you asked me afterwards I would have a clear idea on how the next book in that series was supposed to “be”.
Also I remembered thinking that the author must have had several ideas on plots for the book and she seemed eager to bring content into her novel. Maybe even to much – others would have written 2 novels with far less content that she used up for only one (hey and I do NOT mean that in a negative way) – also there was an idea I very personally developed on what I wanted to read about “Charlie”
So to say I was surprised when I opened “Midwest Fighter” would not even sum up half of what I felt. This Kendall family is really a unique bunch of people and I would not even dare to come up with an idea on how the next book will develop.
Ms. Ann came up with an interesting way of spinning a story around this family that is not tiring to the readers as some novels of this kind are. The Kendalls remain fresh – as their stories are all very different and unique – mostly due to the fact of the very different places that they encounter their love.
It is not the family relationship that carries the story – this relationship is more a loose line to connect the stories.
The weight of the story is carried by events in the story that are heavy and raw.
James is so much more that the short idea of him the reader got in the first novel and Sharlo is much deeper that I would have imagined at that time too.
If this is the style the next books in that series will continue – I am sure I just found a new favorite author. BUT I truly hope she also spins something out of the first novel – there were some strings that would have deserved more lines.

I absolutely loved this book. This is going to be another hit for Jennifer. The story is just amazing and the characters are easy to love. I've loved Sharlo since Brooklyn Rockstar and we just got a glimpse of James in that one but ladies he won't disappoint.
So if you've read Brooklyn Rockstar which I highly recommend because that's Charlie and Evelyn's story you already know this but if not I'll tell you. Sharlo is Evelyn's best friend and James is Evelyn's older overprotective brother. They meet in the first book but you don't get a chance to really feel the chemistry of these two until you get to Midwest Fighter. So this book starts out with a tragedy in the Kendall family. Sharlo and James cross paths again and their passion explodes. That's all I'm going to say because a lot happens that you don't expect.
There's so much to love in this book. The characters are the number one thing. Sharlo is so sassy and she cracks me up throughout the whole book. There's emotion, passion, tension, angst, heartbreak, action everything you could ever want in a book. James and his broody self but with Sharlo he's like a big teddy bear. Ladies you are going to fall head over heels in love with this man. I love that the whole family is in this book more. We get a little bit of Sofia and Nolan together and let me tell you I seriously can't wait to get their book. The story will draw you in and keep you on the edge of your seat. The sex scenes will make you need a cold shower. This is one hot hot couple. There's alternating povs from the main 2 characters and a few from others. I believe I have a new couple to go on my list of favorite couples. Amazing job Jennifer!!

You just have to love yourself some Sharlo, she is hilarious. And you also always love yourself a broody sentimental tough guy, and we have that with James, poor baby, he just wants to be there for everyone, and he neglect himself. Thankfully, he ends up meeting and having Sharlo, because lord if he ended up with that tart as Sharlo called her Ivy, that would have just been sad, he definitely deserved someone better. It was also heartbreaking for him to have to find his father, my heart went out to him, and also to hear the burden that he held onto for so many years with what Sofi went thru and he felt responsible for, was just sad. But, my friends he got a second chance a chance for happiness, and he got it. And I am excruciatingly happy for him.

5 blown away, absolutely well deserved stars
Okay, so this is the first book i've read by Jennifer Ann. *Hangs head* i will be reading the first book in this series, obviously i've been missing out.
It was AMAZING, i LOVED this story and oh my shit ALL THE DAMN FEELS. Seriously parts of this book had me wanting to cry my eyes out, sometimes in sadness others with pure fucking happy tears.
I absolutely adore James and Sharlo. They meet again after pure tragedy strikes the Kendall family, James is Evelyns older brother and Sharlo is her best friend. When they arrive back at Evelyns family home and Sharlo sets eyes on the hot as fucker fighter the passion between them explodes. I won't give to much away because there is so much to this story i DID NOT FUCKING EXPECT!!!
I can't explain how much i love every character in this book, there is so much love and so many feels inside these pages i had to take a few minutes every now and then to take a breath and just reflect on what i'd read. I was nearly sobbing by the end of the first chapter and as i read on that wasnt the only time my eyes leaked a little. Sharlo is so damn sassy and i love that shes a fiesty little brit and James HOLY FUCK how intense is he!!! Yet with little butterfly he is a completely different man. This book was emotional to say the least, i felt so much. I laughed and cried, i got pissed and then there was that one unexpected chapter that BLEW ME THE FUCK AWAY!!! i couldn't get a grip on my emotions reading it, a situation so similar happened in my life and it hit home and boy did i cry not only for the characters but for the fact it felt like i was experiencing that part of my life all over again. *Shit, im crying again*
This story was gripping, i devoured every word. I really didn't want it to end, i felt like i was living inside those pages with those characters. If you want a soulful, funny but emotional read this is the book for you. Im so excited to go back and read the first book.
Jennifer Ann has taken the alphabet and transferred it into something beautiful. I have fallen head over heels with this story, with James and Sharlo. That ending couldn't have been any more bloody perfect. Im so happy i took a chance on a new author, shes turned out to be one of my favourites.

Jennifer Ann once again nails it out of the park and gets five amazing stars for Midwest Fighter! Just when I think I her writing can't get any better, she one ups her previous novel. Midwest Fighter is no exception! Midwest Fighter is an emotional ride that you will want to buckle up and hold on tight for, as it's a beautiful, fun, heart breaking and downright tragic love story at times.
Midwest Fighter is the second book in the Kendall family series but could be read as a stand alone, however, I strongly recommend that if you are planning to read Brooklyn Rockstar you probably want to read it first, as Midwest Fighter will give away what happens in Brooklyn Rockstar. That being said, I like how Jennifer Ann incorporates some of the events from Brooklyn Rockstar into Midwest Fighter and the fact that we get "updates" on Evelyn and Charlie. It feels as though Midwest Fighter is an extension of Brooklyn Rockstar with just as much emotional turmoil if not more! There was one surprise after another in this novel, just when I thought I knew where it was going there would be another shocking event that would take place. You can't help but wonder how much one person can handle before they break for good.
Midwest Fighter is the story of James, Evelyn's brother, and Sharlo, Evelyn's best friend. James is a hot head by all standards and when an event changes his entire world as he knows it, his anger becomes even worse. The only person who seems to be able to have any positive effect on James is Sharlo. Sharlo is a sweet, kind, fun lady who wants to help James any way that she is able. There appears to be quite the chemistry between the two. As James and Sharlo's story unfolds they are met with one deeply emotional event after another. You have to wonder how much they can with stand before breaking. Just when you think they will both get their happily ever after there is one more tragic event that they must go through. Will they both make it out or will this be the final event that tears them apart for good?
Jennifer Ann also gives us a look into why Evelyn's sister, Sofia, is how she is and what it is that made her into the woman she is today. I can't wait to read the next book to get the full story on Sofia.

Star Rating: 5 blown away stars!
First I’ll start of by saying that this series was a first for me by this author but holy hell was I blown away with Evelyn and Charlie’s story and now James and Sharlo!
James Kendall, a tortured guy with a past that has consumed who is he and anger swells inside him because of it. Once tragedy hits the Kendall family he is forced yet again to deal with blinding hurt. Until a certain blonde comes to his aide and calms the anger within. Can she keep the emotions and anger at bay and tame it? the farm boy with a fighting streak will grab you and pull hard.
Sharlo Rockford, rich best friend to Evelyn and a starlite in NYC but she isn’t a normal snobby rich girl that flaunts it in your face. Down to earth is what makes Sharlo so different and when someone knocks on her door looking for someone else her world was rocked. Coming to the aide of her best friend when she is hurting the most proves to be a task when she sees the man who once knocked on her door. This brit girl will have you wanting a brit for a best friend.
This story was gripping to say in the least, I hurt so much when I read the first chapter and I had tears falling instantly but that would’nt be the only time I would shed tears and holy effing hell was I blown away when that one chapter shattered everything, literally! ( no spoilers ) I had to stop and wipe my face because I just simply I couldn’t see. I felt the hurt and pain through Sharlo and James :’(
If you truly want a soulful, heart gripping story then this is the one to read. Although I would recommend read Brooklyn Rockstar first so that everything is understandable with everyone involved. I can’t wait to read more about Nolan, he was very intriguing and I agree with my new favorite Brit that he needs to find someone to fill his time with besides the bar.
I need Manhattan Millionaire soon!

Knock out!!
Jennifer Ann …OMG what a book!
I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, I have had the teasers over the last few weeks and they really have piqued my interest but you know the score, sometime the book doesn’t live up to the hype.
Not this time…this time the hype was way off the mark…this book kicked serious ass!!
But it was more than just a knock out it was beautiful, this was love in all its guises, it was both heart-breaking and tragic but hopeful and hysterical. It brought seriousness when necessary but allowed the characters their opportunity to smile.
I haven’t read the first book but this more than stood up on its own, although I have book one lined up read to go later!
I found the story very emotional. It was jam packed with so many twists and turns it was almost impossible, no scrub that it was impossible to get a handle on which way this very talented author was going to take the characters next, they had more angst and upheaval than I thought either of them were ever going to be able to handle.
I liked James, he might have had a temper that could almost get the better of him at times but Sharlo was more than a match for his fluctuating temperament. Sharlo was funny, she made me smile and I adored the way that she only wanted what was best for James but they were complete opposites, so while I hoped that this was a case of opposites attracting but I couldn’t help worry that they had a long way to go to find a happy middle ground.
I read each page wondering what they were going to be hit with next. It has been a while since I read a couple that have had to endure so much, they seemed to be constantly in the firing line.
I might not have been in full on sob mode through this book but it was certainly more emotional than I thought it was going to be, I sniffled and snivelled my way through more pages than I care to admit.

OMG! I loved this story! This book had everything and more I could possibly want in a book; amazing story of highs and lows, hot and steamy sex, angst and heartache. Everything! I could not put this done and read it in one day. I got no frickin' housework done today!
I must admit, it was a little confusing at first having not read the first book in this series but it didn’t take long to catch up. The author was brilliant at catching you up with events that happened in book one. In fact she was so good, I found myself going to Amazon to add the first book to my tbr list.
James Kendall is the brother of Sharlo’s best friend Evelyn. Sharlo’s instant attraction must start in book 1, although it steams up when they meet up again under heartbreaking circumstances. JD and Evelyn's father is murdered bringing all the siblings back for the funeral. JD is a fighting in a sparing ring when Sharlo comes back into his life and wham bam, it hits them again. They can't fight the attraction anymore and give in to a hot, steamy night of sex which then starts an on/off relationship with complications along the way. His moodiness and her life in a different state puts a strain on their romance. When someone threatens Sharlo the story becomes nail bitingly good.
I really loved every moment with this couple! It was so good! I cried and laughed with them. I can't wait to read more from this author! This book is a must, MUST read for all! If I could have given it more than 5 stars I so would!!

James Kendall - I love you!!
I knew from the very instant I finished Charlie and Evelyn's story that I would be waiting on pins and needles for James and Sharlo. Jennifer Ann can spin a story like no other. I was sooo in love with Charlie it was unreal. I wasn't far behind with James. From the first (very emotionally charged) chapter I was hooked in, loving every minute, every word of the book.
Characters - Sharlo, the feisty Brit. She is Evelyn's best friend. She grew up wealthy but with really crappy parents. Shes the caretaker, the one who makes everything right for everyone else. Happy go lucky Sharlo. Oh, how I loved her.
James is Evelyn's older brother and he is WAY protective of her and to that end Sharlo. He had some issues in book one with Charlie but got over them in the end when he realized how much Charlie loved Evelyn. James is absolutely everything I look for in a male character. Becoming a skilled fighter is the only thing that keeps James centered. What he didn't expect was to get knocked down by his friend and a guy that was half his size. When James's mother died he decided that he was going to stay and help his father and uncle Orin on the farm. What he didn't expect was going home to his dog going crazy. When James gets really upset he uses his fists as his escape. When Evelyn, Sharlo and Charlie go back to Minnesota to check on James and for the funeral.
James is a fighter, he is the protector of the family. He can't get stop get Sharlo out of his head. Sharlo is Evelyn's best friend, she has a no no-nonsense attitude. Evelyn is James's sister, she is the youngest, married to Charlie. Charlie is married to Evelyn, James's brother in law. Hunter is James's brother, kept James in the Loop about the investigation while he was away. Manny is a boxer, Charlie's friend. Training James. Asher is James's friend, is obsessed with Tattoos, fighter.
This is the second book in the Kendall Family. This book is very well written and the characters were very well developed. I loved that I found it very hard for me to put this book down. I also loved that I felt very connected to the characters. I can't wait to read more books by Jennifer Ann.

Hunter is James's brother, kept James in the Loop about the investigation while he was away. Manny is a boxer, Charlie's friend. Training James. Asher is James's friend, is obsessed with Tattoos, fighter.
This is the second book in the Kendall Family. This book is very well written and the characters were very well developed. I loved that I found it very hard for me to put this book down. I also loved that I felt very connected to the characters. I can't wait to read more books by Jennifer Ann.

This is the first time for me reading this author which was a wonderful discovery for me. I do like to mix up my reading in romance with some that center around fighters once in awhile so the storyline on this one caught my eye. It will have good balance of elements with the characters having strength enough to carry it through. Romance, heat that burns with drama that has intrigue that sets you to wondering. James seems to good to be single but it seems many do not know how to approach his beast inside. Sharlo seems to have the courage but they both keep their distance since they first met until there is no denying their attraction that has turned into a need that has to be fed. Once they do we are taken in their intense ride that has ups and downs but many go arounds especially in bed. But trouble is lurking behind her that causes hurt but by then you have been lost in their world. love how it is tied up leaving you satisfied.

Midwest Fighter is a total KO for Jennifer Ann!
James and Sharlo are the perfect match, while being complete opposites on the emotional spectrum. She is happy and funny and confident and he is Moody and Angry and just a bit unsure of himself. She brings out the best in him and only James can give her what she wants and needs from a lover.
I belly laughed at Sharlo and her craziness and I cried for James. This book checked off all of my needs for a hot romance! I am a huge fan of series writing and Jennifer Ann does a great job weaving characters in and out of her stories. Which means that if the size of the Kendall Family means anything, we should be reading about them for a while yet! And I can't wait!!!!!

This is the second book in the Kendall family series and I absolutely loved it! The chemistry between James and Sharlo is sizzling. Super Hot & Super Sexy!! James and Sharlo have to fight through some tragic events along the way. Can they make it work? 5 STARS!!!! This is Jennifer Ann 's best work yet!!

This really was a sweet romance between James and Sharlo. Given the seriousness of what they were going through it's hard to believe it could be sweet but it was perfect, even when they weren't. I loved reading Midwest Fighter

Loved this book and the characters. James and Sharlo have a very strong chemistry . James has a lot of hurt and angering him but Sharlo brings out the good in him but it takes time and work on both parts. really enjoyed it.

I enjoyed this story filled with pain, love and lots of inner strength. When James meets his sister’s best friend, the attraction was instant. He knows he should not want Sharlo, they live such different lives. Two people with a strong connection but so many reasons they should not be together. I enjoyed reading their story as they both fought for what they wanted. They had a tough journey and how it ended up was a story I enjoyed reading.

James has knocked my knickers off that's for sure. This book made my heart sad and laugh almost at the same time. Sharlo is a British riot! I want to be her! This book has a lot of drama and laughs. We get to see some more of Charlie and Evelyn and the rest of the crew. it was just really good. Can't wait to get to the next story!

Midwest Fighter is book 2 in the Kendall Family series. In this book we meet James and Sharlo. They had an instant connection when they met. This is a story filled with angst, romance and laughter. James know he wants Sharlo from the first moment they meet but Sharlo is a lil hesitant. She feels the overwhelming attraction but she didn't have a great views on relationships based on her parents marriage. After James goes through a tragedy only Sharlo can help him out. He's used to being the one that protects everyone it's hard for him to be the one receiving protection. Sharlo sis going through her own traumatizing situation. Will they be able to finally give in and admit their undeniable attraction? Can they get over traumas? This was a 5 star read. I can't wait to read the next book!

This is the second book I have read by this author and have to say that I really enjoy her writing style and the stories that she creates around these awesome characters. I was sucked in from the first chapter and taken on a roller coaster ride of loss, lust, love, deceit, second chances and more. I felt like I was part of the story in a sense. I felt myself going through the emotions that the characters were dealing with. Jennifer Ann has blown me away again and I look forward to reading more of her work.
James Kendall is reeling from the loss of his father and the one person who can bring him down from all that anger and hurt, is the one person that he should not want. His sister's best friend, Sharlo. She is everything he has ever wanted, but out of his league. When one night of her comfort leads to something more, he cannot stop thinking of her. "Midwest Fighter" features an angry beast of a Hero and the feisty strong-willed Heroine who can calm him yet enjoy his inner beast at her whim. The Hero, James Kendall, is the caretaker and protector of his family, he bears their burdens and secrets making sure everyone is safe and supported at the expense of his own dreams. The only outlet for his frustration, bitterness, and growing anger, is through boxing - fighting the demons dwelling within him. Sharlo Rockford, is the Heroine, a brash, gutsy, self-sufficient Brit who has no qualms about speaking her mind and taking care of herself. Her best friend has recently married the love of her life and Sharlo sees their devotion everyday and she can't help but want that for herself. But coming from not the best parental role models: a father who was intensely dedicated to his work and a mother more devoted to her younger men and drugs - Sharlo doesn't think True Love is in the cards for her. The closest thing Sharlo's felt to a real and extreme attraction to someone is to James, the brother of her best friend, Ev, but that's a dangerous road to disaster if the relationship fails.; But she cannot forget the tingle that James makes her feel in her lady bits even though it's been quite some time since she's seen him. Jennifer Ann outdoes herself with the story-line, characters, and Romance in "Midwest Fighter" - it's enthralling, moving, poignant, sexy, intense and touching. The main characters are frustratingly giving, almost to the point of wanting to slap upside the head with your e-reader - but they get their acts together quickly only to get hit with life altering events that keep derailing them. This second installment in Jennifer Ann's Kendalls series is, to me, incredibly enjoyable! I adored James and Sharlo, the way she can calm his rage and the sweet romantic he is for her is fan - freaking - tastic!!!

First I’ll start of by saying that this series was a first for me by this author but holy hell was I blown away with Evelyn and Charlie’s story and now James and Sharlo!
James Kendall, a tortured guy with a past that has consumed who is he and anger swells inside him because of it. Once tragedy hits the Kendall family he is forced yet again to deal with blinding hurt. Until a certain blonde comes to his aide and calms the anger within. Can she keep the emotions and anger at bay and tame it? the farm boy with a fighting streak will grab you and pull hard.
Sharlo Rockford, rich best friend to Evelyn and a starlite in NYC but she isn’t a normal snobby rich girl that flaunts it in your face. Down to earth is what makes Sharlo so different and when someone knocks on her door looking for someone else her world was rocked. Coming to the aide of her best friend when she is hurting the most proves to be a task when she sees the man who once knocked on her door. This brit girl will have you wanting a brit for a best friend.
This story was gripping to say in the least, I hurt so much when I read the first chapter and I had tears falling instantly but that would’nt be the only time I would shed tears and holy effing hell was I blown away when that one chapter shattered everything, literally! ( no spoilers ) I had to stop and wipe my face because I just simply I couldn’t see. I felt the hurt and pain through Sharlo and James :’(
If you truly want a soulful, heart gripping story then this is the one to read. Although I would recommend read Brooklyn Rockstar first so that everything is understandable with everyone involved. I can’t wait to read more about Nolan, he was very intriguing and I agree with my new favorite Brit that he needs to find someone to fill his time with besides the bar.

Great book!
This book had me chuckling all along. Sharlo has the best attitude and is sharp as a tack! Put her together with James, a brooding protector of people he loves, and BAM, chemistry kicks in.
