An Unlikely Couple Struggles to Reconcile the Burdens of Their Past Dani Prescott came to the children's hospital to spy on Brett Somers--so how did she end up on a date with him? But the crash had killed her mother as well, so Dani can't believe the story Brett's trying to sell to the media. Vowing to find a way to discredit the privileged--and maddeningly handsome--Brett, Dani has been following him and taking photos, hoping to find something she can use against him. But when she catches his eye instead, she quickly finds herself offering up a fake name and agreeing to a date. Brett knows this mystery girl is hiding something--but he's got his own secrets to keep. What will happen when he discovers who she really is? Will Dani and Brett look beyond their own heartaches to discover a love that could heal their deepest pain? Fresh, flirty, and fast-paced, "When Love Arrives" is an engaging story that will have readers falling in love with the characters as they navigate the tricky waters between romance and revenge.

I’m a big fan of redemption stories. When an author can take a formerly unlikable character from a previous novel and bring them to an understanding of God’s grace and love, I am impressed. And that is what this author has done with the character of Brett. If you read the first book in the Misty Willow series, Where She Belongs, you will recognize Brett as an all around slime ball. If you haven’t read book one, I think that When Love Arrives could be read as a stand alone. But I think Brett’s journey is even more impressive if you start at the beginning of the series.
The author was able to elicit a lot of emotion from me as I read this book. I really enjoyed watching Brett’s slow and steady transformation into the man that God wanted him to be by the end of the novel. The heroine of the book had plenty of transforming to do, too! I liked Dani a lot and really felt for her and the situation she found herself in. She had some decisions to make regarding the truth and she struggled with doing what was right instead of letting fear control her.
I loved all of the characters in this story and enjoyed watching as all of the pieces slowly fell into place. After I hit the halfway point in this book, I couldn’t put it down and stayed up way too late reading in order to finish it!
I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Brett Somers is trying to change his life. He's not the man that he used to be. When he meets Dani Prescott outside of the children's hospital, he has no idea that she's trying to gather information that could discredit him. As an upcoming young professional, Brett mentioned in an interview that he blamed the pilot for the crash that killed his parents. He didn't know that Dani's mother was the pilot and that she was killed as well. Dani's determined to find something that will discredit Brett. But she's hiding something too. When their secrets come to light, can there be both forgiveness and love with new beginnings?
I didn't care for Brett in the first book, but I wanted to see how he would change when given his own story. I'm glad to see that he has changed. I loved his interactions with Dani. I also loved how determined he was to truly show he had changed. I loved how Dani was able to find where she actually belonged.
Book three in the series will be about Brett's sister Amy. I'm really looking forward to reading her story.
I received this book for free from the publisher for the purpose of reviewing. My thoughts and opinions are my own.

Brett's cavalier lifestyle begins to not offer the contentment it once did. After a couple of sobering events, he begins to self analyze and make positive changes.
The female main character, Dani, had a difficult childhood and is filled with bitterness toward Brett and his money and what appears to be an easy life.
I thoroughly enjoyed getting up to date with AJ, Shelbey, Meghan, Jonah and Amy. There were several sweet interactions between Brett and Dani and the ending was Hallmark Movie worthy. The beginning of the book started off unrealistically with Dani and Brett in each other's living spaces with no others present. With as much dislike as Dani had for Brett, it doesn't seem she'd feel safe being in a locked room or apartment with him. That part of the story (which happened in Chapter One or Two) didn't ring true for me. Beyond that the story was realistic and enjoyable.
Thus far, the first in the series is my favorite. I look forward to Amy's story in book three.
My gratitude to Rel of Relz Reviews and publisher Revell for a complimentary copy of this novel. I was not required to post a review and the opinions expressed are my own.
3.5 stars I was a bit conflicted as to what to rate this one, because, though I really identified with Brett's struggle to change his life (doing it under his own power instead of God's, at first, was quite painful to watch!) from spoiled playboy to decent citizen. As far as personal preference goes, it got a little too detailed in parts—not something I object to morally; it's tastefully done—but I simply don't enjoy spending a lot of time in vapid, drunken company, and a number of scenes in the book show what Brett's life once was. He also struggles to control feelings of fleshly attraction. On the plus side, I really liked that it mentioned that he was miserable because he was going against God's plan for him, that he was never going to be fully happy/peaceful until he surrendered his own wants to be important and ahead in life and learned to focus on the things that really mattered.
Ahh, after reading a few not so good books, I needed this! Such a sweet light read, but with deeper truths and meanings woven throughout the story. I loved the characters. They were intriguing and in one way or another, you could relate to them. And the fact that one of the main characters wrote a WWII short story, loves old WWII-era movies and quoted "Fiddler on the Roof" was just awesome. It made me want to just sit and be able to talk with Dani for a day. ;)
It would have been a 5-star, but there were a few things that lowered my rating. First, the physical aspect. PEOPLE CAN I HAVE A MODERN STORY WHERE THEY SAVE THEIR FIRST KISS FOR MARRIAGE?! The whole physical thing didn't sit well with me. I'm really getting tired of reading books where that's all guys (and girls) notice, and the couple doesn't even consider the spiritual side of the relationship. Also, Brett's past life is in shambles. Because of the things it mentioned he did, I wouldn't recommend the book for anyone under 16.
Yet, there was a beautiful glorious moment. That moment when the Gospel light shone through, and instead of continuing to try and be in control, the character turned their life over to Christ. The gospel was presented beautifully, and it was so amazing to see God's power work in even the darkest life.
So yes. I enjoyed it and there are many, many good things about it. However, I would caution anyone who reads it just because of the physical attraction and the before-commitment kiss.

This was my first book by the author and I have to say: I’m disappointed. Overall it was just disappointing, but what really annoyed me were all the sexual comments. Majority of them just came across as degrading to women and made me shake my head. It was ridiculous and unneeded. The author kept trying to portray Brett as a in-the-process-of-reforming cad who is now disgusted with how he “used to be” and yet he still is constantly mentioning a woman’s looks or how the “old-Brett” would react to a woman throwing herself at him; but I didn’t see/read him thinking that those thoughts were wrong. He still ogles over Dani’s slender ankles and mentions a woman “displaying her gorgeous cleavage”. Had the back-cover given more info on the characters, I wouldn’t have even tried this book. I also don’t know who in their right mind would agree to go on a date with someone they’re staking/trying to get dirt on. Dani & Brett have to be one of the very few couples I’ve read about that I can’t see making it as a married couple.

Be prepared for a tummy-flipping, heart-dropping emotional roller coaster of a read. Honestly, I was so anxious about Dani's deception that I squirmed my way through this story. Oy. I kept ranting at her, begging her, cajoling her -- 'Just talk to him!' I pleaded but did she? Nope. Sigh. I made need counseling after this one.
But for all the angst this is a stunning redemption story. If you read Where She Belongs (the first book in the Misty Willow series) you will be familiar with Brett. Shudder. I was not a fan in book one. He was.a self-serving slimeball. I'm just telling it like it is. But God gets a hold of his heart and he starts on a transformation that is truly miraculous. It's this Brett we meet in When Love Arrives. The guy who is struggling to put his past behind him and face the future with honor and hope. And there is nothing so romantical as a 'reformed rake.'
The funny thing about Dani is that I would almost be cheering her on if she'd started her smear Brett Somers campaign a year ago. (I know that's awful of me to admit!) But not this new and improved Brett. Dani has her reasons -- though that's not an excuse. But hurting, damaged people don't always act rationally and she's suddenly caught up in a personal dilemma of her own. Gah! I was tied up in knots right to the end! If you enjoy an emotional read, then When Love Arrives is definitely the book for you.
When Love Arrives was a story that was easy to read...I could set it aside for a while and yet remember exactly what was going on when I picked it back up. I liked the characters quite a bit. Dani was a great heroine and Brett, while not a character that I liked originally, grew on me as the story progressed.
The romance was nice and I found the ending to be sweet. I was surprised by the way that Dani's secret was revealed - not how I was expecting!
All in all, When Love Arrives was a good read. I didn't read book one and don't feel like I missed out on much.

I am a sucker for redeemable characters and this story delivered. After meeting Brett in book one of this series, I was sure I wouldn’t like his story. Am I glad to be wrong. I loved the way that Brett grew into such a better person, reminding me that we can have circumstances that shape us in negative ways, but we can rise above them with the right people motivating us.
Dani also struggle with her past and sometimes I had difficulty with her insecurities, but I rooted for these two wounded souls to find love with each other.
This story had a surprisingly unhurried feel to it, considering how much was going on. It’s probably best to read the previous book in this series, Where She Belongs, prior to picking this one up, as Brett’s story really begins there. But even if you don’t, you will find the pieces are filled in as the story progresses (but no info dumps, thank goodness!)
One of the main benefits of having read the previous novel in the series will be in understanding Brett Somers’ character. At the beginning of the series, he’s not exactly the kind of guy you take home to meet your parents. Rather, he’s the kind of guy who kisses his secretary, takes her home, gives her her own credit card, and starts the countdown until it’s out with the old, in with the new. But his past caught up with him in the previous book, and he’s begun to realise how shallow that life is. He’s a leopard who is changing his spots, one spot at a time, but who is also reaping the harvest he has sown - like being kept from seeing the eight-year-old boy he recently learned is his son.
Dani Prescott is nothing like the women Brett usually goes for. She’s not blond, she’s not tall and leggy, she doesn’t put her ‘assets’ out there to try and entice him. That’s why he figures she’s safe for a spontaneous ‘non’-date when he sees her taking photographs outside the children’s hospital. But somehow he finds himself spending more and more time with her, introducing her to AJ and Shelby, and just . . . being. It’s refreshing. She’s refreshing.
Except, of course, the whole reason he met Dani is because she has been following him, hoping to find something she can use to humiliate him after he blamed her mother for the plane crash that killed his parents.
At the beginning of the novel, I found myself more sympathetic towards Brett than I was Dani; partly because I had read the previous novel in the series and could see the way in which Brett was slowly transforming, but also because I didn’t like the way Dani clung so tenaciously to her need to humiliate Brett. It seemed a bit juvenile to me, and began to feel a little forced as well. But the plot soon developed beyond this, not only as Dani’s friendship grew with Brett, AJ, and Shelby, but also as she began to explore the opportunity their foundation and the Underground Railway Museum offered her. The bigger question then became: How could she now tell them the truth about who she was and why she had hidden it for so long?
The mother of Brett’s son is also a point of view character in this novel, and I loved the way in which this story line, and the plot involving Dani, showed the transformation taking place in Brett. And while I was initially tense about just how much angst would be created by Dani’s agenda, the drama felt natural rather than overblown, and it actually made for a pretty sweet ending by Brett!
There were a couple of times when the characters' tendency to be introspective slowed the story down just a little, and I would have liked to get a better sense of where Dani was spiritually, but on the whole this was an enjoyable read. And considering what happens with Brett's sister, Amy, in this book, I am eagerly awaiting her story next!
I received a complimentary copy of this novel from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.
When Love Arrives is a fantastic story of the moving and sometimes tumultuous journey through anger and guilt to friendship and then love. I really enjoyed this book. I wasn't sure at the start, grew addicted in the middle and by the end I was gingerly turning the pages hoping, begging for one more chapter and that, please, don't let it be over.
This is the second book in the Misty Willows series. It would be best to read these in series order. I enjoyed When Love Arrives more than I did the first book, Where She Belongs, but it is worth reading the first book first, not only because it is a great story in its own right but because it perfectly sets up this story to follow on.
Dani Prescott is stalking the man that ruined her mother's reputation. She is determined to have her revenge, but she certainly doesn't expect to get caught by the man in the focus of her camera lens - nor to be asked on a date by him. Brett Somers has a past he is starting to wrestle with and a future that seems undetermined. The brunette taking photos outside the hospital catches his eye. She is unlike the many girls he has wined and dined before, so he's not sure why he asked her out. Both Brett and Dani are hiding things from the other. They agree that their relationship will never be anything more than a casual friendship.
What an interesting storyline. I don't think I've ever read a book before that had me disliking one of the main characters so much at the start and liking him so much at the end. The story is told in alternating chapters from Brett and Dani's point of view. It's interesting reading this story from Brett's perspective. We first met Brett Somers in Where She Belongs. I didn't like him all that much then and I didn't like him in the first half of this story. But, gradually, we start to get a glimpse of the hurt and disappointment underneath Brett's self-pleasing and controlling exterior. I could understand why Dani is both drawn to Brett and repulsed.
Watching Brett change over the course of the book is a pleasure. And it is absolutely gleeful to see womanising, aloof, untouchable, snobby, I-only-like-leggy-blondes Brett fall for Dani. Dani is a strong (in a gentle, terrified kind of way) and likeable character. Down on her luck, searching for answers, sure no one like Brett could ever like a girl like her and not sure why she would want him to. Brett isn't instantly attracted to Dani but is drawn to her and he can't seem to justify why. It was hilarious and yet I wanted to slap him at some of his less-than-upstanding thoughts about Dani. But again, it served to very clearly show a change in his character. No perfect, unrealistic gentleman here. But Brett managed to wheedle his way into my heart. Much like Dani does to his. Imperfectly perfect.
I can't wait for the next book in this Misty Willow's series. Amy's story promises to be equally wonderful - just the short teaser at the end of this book has me eagerly anticipating it's release. This whole series is highly recommended and a pleasant surprise.
The publishers provided a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Johnnie Alexander has done it again with a story few romance lovers will be able to resist. Dani and Brett have every reason to hate each other. Dani's mother killed Brett's family through pilot error and worse, Brett knows it and blames her. Dani will never forgive Brett for saying so in a speech and sh'e out to ruin his life -- and what better way than to date the man?
Both Brett and Dani were real, hurting characters and I felt sorry for both of them. Brett especially is lovable with his less than stellar past and his desire to fix it and make it right. Dani is an innocent, but she is conniving and manipulating even while being nice at the same time. I did like her, but I wanted to tell her to stop lying to him and to own up to her mistakes, her identity, her goals. Some of the stuff wasn't even lie worthy.
Neither Brett or Dani were Christians at the beginning of the book though they both believe God exists but doesn't care. Something even saved people struggle with from time to time. There is some drinking, mentions of wanting to drink, and of course, wanting sex (not that it happened, because it didn't, this is clean) but there is no sexual tension between the characters.
I loved the way there were two or three other stories going on at the same time in this book. AJ and Shelby as well as her two children and their upcoming marriage and the house Shelby lives in, Amy and her issues, and of course, Megan, Aaron, and Jonah. A totally sweet romance that is a bit slow but engaging. I grew to love these characters.
You won't want to miss WHEN LOVE ARRIVES by Johnnie Alexander.
I was given a copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
A hunky rich guy who knows too well how to "seduce&destroy" the ever-willing females. A naive goody-two-shoes girl who aims to serve him a dish of revenge because of him tarring her mother's good name for being the pilot driving his parents on their last journey, ending in the crash. Can the said jerk be a reformed guy? Can a sweet, good girl enter his heart? Yah, in the movies, maybe. But...in this novel this setup truly works.
I was expecting something else - a sugar-coated, ill-written novel, I confess. And boy was I wrong! Ms Alexander did a splendid job with this redemption story, or better a redemption series of Misty Willow (where this book is a second one of the trilogy). The characters are confronted with very deep issues: Brett has been a true womanizer, Dani was deeply hurt by her unstable bringing-up; Meghan both suffered and tried to use the situation for her own good; Amy has issues and even Aj&Shelby from the previous novel were given their own portion of problems. The characters's issues are real, relatable and serious. There is no sugar-coating. But there is grace. As much as you see their brokenness, you can palatably feel a Hand doing the heavy lifting of their burdens for them to help them to heal. And this is a true gem of writing - because to see the realistic, believable healing is a rare bird. Here, I was sold.
Dani lost her mother in an airplane crash years ago. In the time since she's suffered at the hands of her step-father and grieved her mother. So when she finds a youtube video of a guy blaming her mother for the plane crash she is livid. Brett Somers also lost his parents in that crash and has led an wild life since then. He's a wealthy bachelor who hasn't exactly led a good life. But he recently became a Christian and is working to turn his life around. Dani meets him when stalking him outside a hospital. Brett thinks Dani is a cute girl he just happened to run into. What happens next is the story of their mix-ups and the family that stood by them through it all.
Somehow I missed that this was the 2nd book in a series I'd started earlier. So I know it can be read as a stand-alone. Although I enjoyed the first book and would recommend reading it first to get the whole story. The characters were well developed and the author did a great job of creating chemistry and tension between them. I liked how she inserted the elements of faith and showed how it can turn a life around. The book deals with forgiveness, faith, and family. I enjoyed reading it and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys Christian fiction, clean romance, and family stories.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All thoughts expressed are my own.
The second in Alexander's delightful Misty Willow series, this story continued to surprise and delight. A sweet romance with depth, it is an excellent afternoon on the porch read.
The story follows a young woman, Dani, who is determined to get even with rich playboy Brett for the hateful thing she said about her mother on tv. She doesn't belive her mother was at fault in any way for the accident that took her and Brett's parent's lives. It has become so tiring to see selfish, rich people like Brett getting away with anything they please just because they have money. Any dirt she can use to humiliate him, will be used.
So how exactly did she wind up becoming his date?
Brett's a screwup, and he freely admits it. He's never had any problem using a woman then tossing her to the curb. But when one of his biggest past screwups comes back to bit him hard, he takes it as a call to turn his life around. His plans to take a dating sabattical are becoming increasingly difficult to stick too, no thanks to a mysterious little photographer he stumbles over in a parking lot, who he bonds with over their shared love of old movies. She seems innocent enough, but he still can't fully shake the feeling that she's hiding something from him.
With her nemesis showing himself to be nothing at all like she believed, Dani must make the choice to go through with her revenge, or leave it be. She might be starting to be attracted to the man, whether she wants to be or not. But if her secret is ever revealed, it will be more than just him who is hurt.
Okay, honestly, this story was a very difficult one for me to get through. I can't even quite tell you why. Although I admittedly am not the biggest fan of contemporary novels, it usually doesn't take me this much pushing to get to the end. I read it in fits and starts, unable to stick with it for too long. Although the characters were solid and well rounded, and the plot was all right, something still felt a bit lacking. It's not a bad read by any means, it just wasn't my cup of tea.
**I received a free copy of this book from Bethany House in exchange for an honest review. I was in no way required to leave a good review. I promise this is my genuine opinion of the book.**
Safety Rating:
Romance: A quick kiss, some flirting. it is mentioned more than once about Brett's past with women, along with the women his colleagues are with, and there are subtle hints of what they do behind the scenes, but most is left to the imagination. There are a few vague mentions of a woman's figure, and a group of guys who get together to talk about the latest conquests, giving some mild innuendo. Language: clean Drinking/Drugs: the men's group mentioned above went for drinks once. No drunkenness. Blood/Violence: nothing
The storyline of When Love Arrives by Johnnie Alexander takes place in a town named Misty Willows. This book is the second in the Misty Willows series, and I had not yet read Where She Belongs, which is the first book, but based on some of the reviews I read, it would have been helpful to know the characters a little better before reading this book. Given the time, I would probably gone back and read Where She Belongs first.
Dani Prescott lost her mother in a plane crash. It's the same plane crash that killed Brett Somers' parents. Why is that important? Because Brett is publicly blaming Dani's mother for the crash and ruining her reputation. Dani is hurt and wants to clear her mother's name so she sets out to get revenge against Brett. The story is told in alternating chapters from Brett and Dani's point of view. It's interesting reading this story from Brett's perspective.
Brett is a handsome and rich "ladies' man" who is egotistical and pursues younger, blond, long-legged women. Dani accidently meets Brett in the parking lot of the hospital and he pursues her despite the fact that she doesn't meet his standard criteria. Unbeknownst to Brett, Dani is actually seeking revenge. Brett and Dani soon realize they have so many things in common and Dani starts to feel guilty about her original plan to bring Brett down.
As Dani and Brett develop their friendship, readers get the sense of the changes Brett is making in his life, and his true desire to become a better person due to the fact that he has learned he has a son.
Dani gets help from Brett and his family and her luck begins to change when she secures a new job and a new home surrounded by a great family. As we all know, a relationship built on lies is sure to fail, and Dani's secret plans come to light. These two have a lot to work out and it well worth reading to see where it does.
The story is hard to put down and I loved seeing the changes in both of them. I felt that the author did a great job providing a very believable drama that included faith issues that readers will be able to identify with. Seeing how the characters had to reach the "rock bottom" in their lives before they were able to reach out for help from God proved to be a real struggle in the lives of so many people today. The author certainly has a gift for bringing a story to life and making the reader feel like they are right in the midst of it.
The great news is that coming in Summer of 2017 there will be another book to this series - the third - and at the end of this book there was a little "teaser" for anyone interested. I hope I make time to go back and read the first book so that by the time the third is released I'll be up to speed on everyone's backgrounds!
I was provided with a complimentary copy of this book from Revell a division of Baker Publishing Group for my honest review and was not required to give a positive review.
I do not like giving bad reviews. Honestly. I absolutely hate it. It is the worst part about doing book reviews. But, I have to give my honest opinion on every book I read.
First things first, the overall plot was confusing. If I hadn’t read the back cover of the book, I would have been even more confused than I am now. Why is she stalking Brett? Because of any interview? What? Why? How? And honestly, if you were seriously stalking/following someone to get revenge, you would not go on a date with him–not in a million years.
The characters weren’t that impressive to me either. Dani and Brett’s story was just kinda…dull. In the synopsis above, it says ‘fresh, flirty, and fast-paced.’ I think it is quite the opposite. I mean, I have never struggled with reading an ‘inspiration/romance’ novel–absolutely never. But, this book I seriously struggled with.
I have to give a few high fives to the cover, though. I took one glance at it and loved it. The only thing I would change is the girl’s shoes, from a distance, they looked like huge white tennis shoes–not that appealing in a cover. But four stars to this cover. I might even use it if I ever take pictures for a couple.
So, unfortunately, I have to give this book 2 stars. Definitely not a favorite of mine. You might be wondering, “If you really don’t like it, why aren’t you giving it one star?” Well, that is because I am not a mean person at all. I actually feel bad when giving books not so good ratings. Because whoever the author is took a lot of time to write and edit and work on their books. So, unless I absolutely hate the book, I will never give any book one star.
Alexander has given us a story of God's grace and second chances. The novel opens with Dani Prescott is stalking Brett Somers. His parents died in an airplane crash in which Dani's mother, the pilot, also died. He had said some pretty harsh things about the pilot, claiming the fatal accident was all her fault. Dani is out to cause him the same amount of hurt he has caused her.
Brett sees her across a street and the two meet. He is immediately attracted to her and they start spending time together. She might believe he is a nice man and a budding romance seems in the future.
One aspect of the novel I found a little disconcerting was reading so much about Brett's previous self. He is a wealthy man and has bedded many women. He even belongs to group of men who get together to compare their conquering behavior. Brett has been shocked to find out he has a son and that seems to set him on a more moral course. There is a time, later in the book, when he is presented with the forgiving and saving grace of God. I just felt there was too much about his philandering past included in the story.
Dani is a deceptive character. She keeps her real motive for being in the city to herself, lying to Brett. She keeps thinking she needs to tell him the truth but never does. I didn't have much respect for her character because of that.
I found the plot a bit confusing. I have not read the first book in the series and it seems what happened in it is essential to know to understand this novel. I would recommend you read the first in the series before this one.
I like to learn something when I read a novel and there was a little about the underground railroad in this one. I wish there had been more.
Those who enjoy a somewhat predictable romance and won't be bothered by the many references to Brett's unsavory past may like this one.
I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher for the purpose of an independent and honest review.
When Love Arrives by Johnnie Alexander is a sweet and well played sequel to Where She Belongs, book 1 of the Misty Willow series. Though, I surmise one can read When Love Arrives as a standalone, but it really needs to be read as part of series, in continuity. Lucky for me, I've read book 1 and I also happened to have loved it. Really, those girls, Tabby and Elizabeth are a-dorable! And I'm thrilled to see their appearance in When Love Arrives, along with their sidekick lab, Lila. The other characters that you've met in book 1, Shelby, AJ, Amy, Meghan will all be relevant in this book.
In When Love Arrives, we see the changed Brett Somers trying to follow God, put his sinful ways behind him. In come Dani, trying to find the worst in him in an attempt to humiliate him as a form of revenge. But how did she end up "hanging out" with him and subsequently falling for him? His Somers charm is legendary, or is it his confidence or his dimpled smile or his strikingly good looks? Or could it just be his true nature that Dani's falling for? Yet, what will happen if Brett finds out who she really is? Brett, the redeemed bad boy from Where She Belongs had me wanting to slap him several times in the last book. In When Love Arrives, I just want to tell him all will be well.
Truly a sweet story of how you might have one plan, but God's plan will always be better. A quick read that continues on the tale within Misty Willow, where generations can grow.
This is a review for When Love Arrives by Johnnie Alexander. Danny has been following Brad's because he blames her mother for the plane crash that killed his parents. He conducted a TV interview publicly blaming her. So she wants to publicly humiliate him. It backfires just a tad bit when he sees her and he ends up asking her out. This is a Christian book however his past he was definitely not a Christian. Brett had a serious cavalier attitude toward women. There were references to him playing ‘the game’ which was how he treated women. I had a hard time liking him at first especially when he was still going to the Monday meetings. The author did a great job of opening the book giving us a different side of him to get our impression of him started out on the right foot. He is trying to change his ways and be a Christian. The interactions between him and Danny are platonic. This was one of those boos where you knew her deception was going to end up coming out and you were dreading how it was going to play out and how he would react. It was about typical. It was a decent story. I received this book from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review.

An easy going, unhurried story, 'When Love Arrives' was just the book to read, when you want a lift. Despite both Dani & Brett coming from two very different worlds, they have a past that binds them. Dani is seeking to tear down the pedestal Brett has self made for himself. Full of anger and hurt she has one goal in mind. But then they meet by accident, and he gives her little choice but to become friends. I loved the contrast of their background. Some may call it a Cinderella story, however, Dani is not looking for it, in fact all her natural instincts are telling her to walk away. The differences in her values and personality shine brightly to Brett. She is like no other woman he has met before. Unpredictable and plenty of little surprises along the way, you'll be glad you picked this up. Slight hints at the influence Gods love can have on healing frustrations and anger. There's plenty lessons on forgiveness too. This is the second book in the Misty Hollow series, and I kind of wished I'd read the first one already, however, you don't feel like you've missed any important details, as the author does a thorough job at explaining all the history, and family connections.
Fun read, thanks to Netgalley & Revell for the ARC. This is my honest review.
What would you do if you sought revenge only to discover the person you wanted to hurt was not at all what you first thought?
When Love Arrives brings two very different people with two very different worlds together. Inevitably sparks will fly, but whether they are healing or destructive is another matter.
I might feel Brett was too good to be true if it weren’t for his tainted past. Dani is bitter — understandably so. Both characters have growing and healing to do, and as in reality, sometimes that’s a bumpy road to travel. I love the redemptive themes throughout the story. So many of us can relate, even if the circumstances are different.
I loved the interaction between the characters, and often didn’t want to put the story down. (Unfortunately, it was a busy week!)
When Love Arrives is the second book in the series. While it was an amazing story on its own, I do wish I had read the first one first. Not only would I have understood things at the beginning a little easier, but as good as this one is, I want to read the whole series!
(This review was first published on my blog -- sarahruut.com. I received a complimentary copy of this novel. The thoughts expressed here are entirely my own.)
Johnnie Alexander is a new to me author, so I was looking forward to reading When Love Arrives. To be completely honest, it took a while for me to get interested in this book. At first, I truly didn't care for Dani and felt she was too anxious to get try to make Bret look bad. She seemed bitter to me. I liked Brett almost immediately. I liked him more after he opened up to Dani about his past. Their instant attraction to each other added a surprise element to the story and introduced other characters. Bret turned out to be totally different from what she had believed and Dani didn't have the physical attributes that he was usually attracted to. They both had redeeming qualities as the book continues and I did begin to like them much better than I thought I would. Although, I personally had a difficult time connecting to the characters I found the storyline interesting. I hadn't read the first book in the series and to be fair to the author, that may have been part of the reason I didn't immediately become engaged with the characters. I received a copy of the book from the publisher and have given my honest opinion.
My heartstrings got a workout from a few of the characters in When Love Arrives!! Readers can expect healing, forgiveness, and restoration in an engaging and entertaining story.
Dani Prescott is a hurting and lonely young woman. She finds herself in quite a pickle when Brett notices her and then wants to spend time with her.
Brett Somers is at the point in his life when the scales are falling from his eyes. For the first time, he is beginning to regret his selfish lifestyle and the pain he has caused.
Dani’s impulsive vengeful intentions towards Brett don’t soothe the ache in her heart the way spending time with him does. I’ve marked my calendar for book 3’s release and look forward to Amy’s story with great anticipation.
I requested the opportunity to read and review this title through Net Galley and Revell Reads. The opinions expressed are my own.
Brett Somers may be the quintessential reformed rogue, but Johnnie Alexander gives his story depth as well as charm. Dani Prescott’s character plays nicely off of Brett’s personality, though her motivations did seem somewhat overly reactionary. Still, their interactions are full of flirtation and sparks and heart and all the elements that define great romance. Along with a multi-layered plot and warm supporting characters, the author’s mastery of setting helps the reader feel part of the story. The theme of redemption from regret is well-written, and the underlying subplot related to Brett’s sister sets a poignant stage for the next Misty Willow book.
(I was paid to write a review for RT Book Reviews. All views expressed are nevertheless only my honest opinion.)
Romance, Christian elements, clean This was more of a 3.5 for me. This is a book in a series, but can be read as a stand alone. The story was a little complex. There was some definite attraction between Dani and Brett, that was a gradual attraction, that led to honest, genuine emotions, and feelings. Dani and Brett both have secrets that gradually come out, and they also fight the attraction for various reasons. Brett is definitely a fallen character, that is seeking to redeem his past mistakes, and come to understand and seek God's forgiveness too. This isn't an overwhelming theme in the book, but an underlying motivation for him. Individual forgiveness, built on the willingness to forgive others was a definite theme in this book. Dani's insecurities, her anger and upset, the walls she has built, gradually wear down as she gets to know Brett and sees his underlying motivations behind what he is doing now (as opposed to the past). Brett's past mistakes, haunt him, and he tries to reason his way out of them along with figuring out how he can deserve happiness after all of the selfish mistakes of his past. There are some big misunderstandings, secrets exposed, misunderstandings, but the most important part is the two hearts gradually opening up to trust and love one another and build a future together. Their genuine, honest hearts and emotions were lovely to read as they both sought to forgive, seek forgiveness, and learn to love. Lovely read. I loved reading both characters points of view, seeing their 'hearts', thoughts, and emotions as they gradually fell. I think the main detraction were there were 3 story threads running though this, Dani and Brett were the main one, but I was a bit confused to find the other 2 stories mixed in. Figured it out, but it was a bit of a confusion for me as I initially read the other two stories. Still a nice read. Beautiful cover! I received a copy from NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.
When Love Arrives is the continuation of the story that was started in Where She Belongs. This time the focus of the story shifts from AJ and Shelby to Brett and Dani. Dani Prescott is a new character and from the very beginning she's one that I wanted the best for.
Dani is torn by her past and has a plan to set the record straight. Her target is Brett. He is pretty much enemy number one but the more she gets to know him personally the harder it is to keep her anger and need for revenge at the forefront of her mind.
Brett has his own set of obstacles that he needs to overcome. I won't do a spoiler but if you read Where She Belongs you already know what weighs heavy on his heart. After meeting Dani by chance he tells himself he's just not interested but he is continually pulled towards this intriguing woman.
Just as the first book had a bit of mystery as well as romance so does this one. It was interesting to watch things unfold and come to a head. When all was said and done I was satisfied to know a bit more about the ongoing storyline and I am eagerly anticipating the next book to allow us to venture a bit farther down the path with these characters.
I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.
Take a moral degenerate looking to reform, a rudderless young woman who is attempting to stalk him, have them meet and begin dating. What comes out of this, from Johnnie Alexander, is a story that holds the readers attention. Prior characters are woven through the story, and the next book is set up well without giving anything away.
I was not necessarily convinced by the love or the pairing, but enjoyed the writing and watching the story unfold. Dani Prescott, as the would-be stalker turned love interest, came across as quite immature and an unlikely love interest for Brett. Brett, in turn, though doing a bit of a "pretty woman" transformation on Dani, didn't seem all that convinced himself for most of the story.
If you enjoy a reforming rake storyline in a contemporary setting, with an unexpected but adorable subplot, then this is a great choice. While I still don't care for Brett's sister Amy, I find myself wanting to read her story. Somehow, the author manages to make me want to read the stories of characters I don't like. Not an easy feat.
I voluntarily received a finished copy for review through the Revell Reads blogger program. All opinions expressed are my own.
Who does Brett Somers think he is? Dani Prescott is sick of him lying. Brett has told anyone that listened that it was her mother's fault that his parents died in a plane crash. Dani Prescott also has lost her mother because of this crash. Dani realized that she is the only one that can fix this and show that it was not her mother's fault. What else can she do? He has seen her taking pictures and has asked her out. She cannot tell him that she was actually spying on him so she says okay. Brett really is intrigued by her. But what is going to happen when he finds out who her mother was? Is this the start of something else? I give this book a 4/5. I was given this book by Revell Publishing Company and these are my opinions.
