Never in his life had he had such a visceral reaction to a woman. Something about Kathleen Callahan called to him, compelled him to know more.
We met Eli Slater in the previous book and he was very sexy especially with his love for his daughters and how he tried to do the right thing, putting a stop to his father and older brother’s evil empire. And in this book he was even sexier, working so hard for the last year to turn their family name into something good, something his daughters would be proud of someday. I loved his immediate reaction to Kathleen and how persistent he was to make her his!! And the way he took care of her, trying to make her life easier, just made me love him even more.
Why did this one man, with his strength, tenacity, and elegance, threaten her equilibrium?
Kathleen Callahan is a security specialist, who started training very young when her father, who was a renowned thief taught her all his skills. But Kathleen uses her knowledge to protect others and the fact that she couldn’t protect her sister who she basically raised herself devastates her. Determined to get justice for her sister she accepts a job from Grey Justice, working in his shadowy division of the Grey Justice Group. Kathleen has learned to keep herself detached from others, to never again risk caring for anyone, but wealthy businessman Eli Slater threatens her perfect composure. And accepting his job offer of keeping his daughters safe, makes it even harder to resist his charm and the feelings he makes her feel. I really liked Kathleen, how tough and vulnerable she was. And even though I sometimes did get frustrated with her continuous pushing away of Eli, I could understand why she felt that way.
She was attracted to him and fighting it with every breath she took. It had been years since he’d wooed a woman. He was so out of practice he found himself wishing that caveman-style wooing was still an acceptable practice, because his body was urging him to forgo the social niceties.
I love instant attractions and Eli’s reaction when he saw Kathleen for the first time was awesome! It was so romantic how determined he was to pursue her, to get her to give him a chance. Their romance was sweet and sexy and I loved watching Eli break through Kathleen’s walls, forcing her to take a chance on him.
Christy Reece always writes such emotion in her books and this book was very sad, especially in the beginning and what happened with Kathleen’s sister. The story was gripping and suspenseful, with Eli and Kathleen trying to keep his daughters safe and trying to figure out who was threatening him and working together with Grey to find the person who was suddenly killing certain people and finding out why before it was too late. I also really liked the secondary characters and Jonah, Eli’s brother, who is now so bitter and angry after being wrongly imprisoned and his fiancé killed on orders from his father, is definitely a character I would like to know more about.
Their relationship, complicated and tumultuous, had lasted longer than many marriages. He had alternated between hatred and adoration for most of that time. No one but the two of them knew the truth of how they began. And no one would understand nor, he figured, comprehend their strange relationship. It had worked for them, though. Or at least, it once had.
Grey Justice and Irelyn Raine continues to fascinate me. After she walked out on him in the previous book I had wondered what was going to happen next and I must say with every little bit revealed about their past, I just get more intrigued. Their relationships is so explosive, full of so many emotions – anger, hate, pain, lust and love and I really need to read their story!!!
I’m really loving this series and in typical Christy Reece fashion she’s written another captivating and sexy book full of suspense, intrigue and a terrific romance. Highly recommended to all RS fans.
