Susan Slade's life was about as good as it gets. The only child of middle-aged parents, she grew up secure in their love. A young woman now, she's surrounded by friends and a wonderful man who wants to marry her. Her picture-perfect life begins to unravel with the deaths of her parents just months apart. Her pain deepens as she begins to settle their estate and discovers a bundle of documents--documents that shake Susan's faith in all she thought was real. Thus begins an agonizing search for her true identity that takes Susan to the N.C. coast and into the arms of another man. The suspense is never-ending as she defies forces intent on blocking her search and follows a trail of buried secrets that uncover forbidden liasons and dark, deadly scandals in her ancestry.
This is another book of Dixie Land's that you won't be able to put down once you start reading it and you can't stop until you get to the last page. Susan has a perfect life with loving parents and a wonderful man she thinks she loves. Her parents are both killed and when she is settling their estate she finds papers that shock her. She needs to investigate to find the answers and this leads her to another town. There she finds a new family and a man she loves. When she is looking for those answers there is a lot of danger to her from people who don't want her to know the truth. This book is full of suspense and it keeps you guessing as to what will happen next. I highly recommend it. Norma Hammer, Clinton, IA
