She was his price...
They paid it...
But no one told her!

Olivia Cooper chose a bad time to become a space marine in the newly formed Space Force: Just when Earth had been defeated in their first encounter with the deadly, but beautiful Ethereal aliens...

Earth desperately needs help against the aggressive aliens, and help seems to be at hand when the alien General Ator'aq and his Braxians offer their assistance. But even if Ator'aq is sensationally handsome and powerful, he and his men also seem like primitive barbarian warriors. Can they really win against the sophisticated Ethereals?

And Ator'aq won't fight for free. His price: An Earth female who can be the mother to his heirs. Spirited Olivia fits his tastes perfectly, and the leaders of Space Force agree to give him the curvy and feisty space marine in exchange for his help against the lethal enemy. But they don't bother to tell Olivia about the deal...

But Olivia has secrets of her own, and the fact that she's a specially trained operative for Military Intelligence is only one of them. When the horrific Ethereals strike again and kidnap her little sister, she has to make a choice: Ator'aq or Space Force?

I really don't have time for awful books with Viking-like aliens who sound like American teens in high school, boring plot, annoying main and side characters and dialogue that gives you brain freeze. And, according to those who've read the whole book, there's very little romance if any at all and one boring sex scene. Yup, it's time to quit.

The story itself was really good but the writing needs lots of work.

Quick Rundown: Space Marine Chick ends up impressing new ally General Alien Dude (who lacks any physical alien qualities besides strength) so much that she is made his official liaison in a pre-war state with another alien race (who actually are alien like) that have been plaguing many universes out there including Alien Dude's race. The shared goal is to annihilate this evil alien race before they destroy all of the universes. A surprisingly interesting plot takes hold of the reader in the place of good dialogue and any real romance.

Characterization: This was hit or miss. I got a sense of who the Chick was through her actions and feelings though they weren't always appropriate- her lack of response to an abduction being one of them. The Dude was a bit of a mystery but that made sense since this was from the Chick's perspective. Unfortunately, all of the secondary characters and the big bad were very poorly written. They added no flavor and their dialogue was atrociously awful. The romance was written but it really wasn't felt. The sexy times (one) was unnatural and stilted.

Plot: This was very interesting and the only reason I continued to read. I wanted to know what was going to happen and the battles were very well done. The epilogue really didn't make sense. I highly doubt that the Chick would have been able to take on the positions allotted her. To say more would be spoilers.

Writing: Yep, this is a big problem here. It started out okay but then the dialogue just got worse and worse. And many times what was being said was contradictory. Example: Dude- "This is our day. I will say no more. We share this day and this victory. Let us go and pluck it! Victory for Brax!" and then he says a few more things. Things like this happened a lot especially around the 70% mark at which point I was rolling my eyes every other paragraph.

Overall: It's a shame that the writing took so much away from this book considering the plot was so good. But, it was a free read on Kindle Unlimited so worth a try.

This book is described as an alien romance, really you could have fooled me, at 60% in there's nothing but military tactics about the war against earths enemy the Etherals. The Braxians have volunteered to aid earth, their leader's price is to be given Olivia a space Marine.

This could be described as slow as in waiting for the romance to begin, it's too bogged down with military details and was not my cup of tea at all. DNF

This was just an okay book for me (not a bad book, just not what I enjoy reading). I would not classify it as a romance, but more a sci-fi with a relationship thrown in as a very little after thought over half way thru the book. The writing style was very stilted with short abrupt sentences and there was more internal narrative then conversations between characters.

Charming

This SciFi romance had some interesting science fiction. The romance was short but ends happily.
There were a few times my eyes rolled and a couple times where I was disappointed with small details--ie fencing us completely different from sword fighting.

This is a great story. It's got quite a lot of story building for a shorter novel. Olivia is a true warrior with a lot of tricks up her sleeve. She's ambitious and honorable. Ator'aq is a king but he's humble and wise. Together they are unstoppable. It's was so fun to read.

I liked it, but...

it had a ridiculously oversimplified storyline. For a sci fi adventure book there wasn’t a lot of “adventure” in it. I did feel that there was a lot of new twists on the sci fi side of this story. So in that I found it gave a sense of discovery.

The female lead was okay. Everything was sort of handed to her. I’m not a fan of that. I prefer when they have to really hustle for everything. That’s more relatable. She was also kind of dumb because she was always “Okay” with everything. It didn’t give the urgency I felt the conflict deserved.

The male lead of course, was written as a gorgeous intelligent fighting hunk of man meat that can do no wrong. Typical, lol. But considering what he lost I felt he should be more brooding((y)??).

Anyway, I still liked it. Just giving you a heads up that it is not a book to go into thinking logically. It’s a silly read that could have been a tiny bit shorter since it was dragged out to make a full book when it didn’t need it.

I liked the story, but there was a massive mistake in it.

DON'T READ MORE IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW WHAT THAT IS...

Earlier when Ator'aq was talking about losing his family, he mentioned his parents and quite a few siblings. Later, he was confused when the alien said that making Olivia pregnant would tear her apart with the birth of a baby. Obviously, if he had his mother around when he was growing up, and also had siblings, he would know this was ridiculous. Does anyone proofread these books ahead of time? Anyway, it was a good story with good action, so it still got 3 stars. It would have been more, though, without the massive error.

Not the best read from this author. Which was a shame I really enjoy her cave man aliens and fire planet aliens series.

This had actually very limited alien and even less chemistry between the hero and heroin. I actually found the hero rather annoying with his ‘vagueness’ over his tactics and previous encounters with the baddies... now I know your not gonna give all you strategy plans away but COME ON!! Which was a shame. The actual evil alien invasion plot line was quite good but the rest of the story lacked the sparkles that the other books have.

Best book ever!!!

Best book ever by this author. Not once were there pages and pages of the characters' inner, random thoughts. It started off with a bang or rather the harsh putting down of an alien by a woman soldier. Completely appealed to the femme fatale in me. Nothing better than a kicka$$ woman. Olivia took being pimped out by the government a little too quietly. The male lead walked away a little too easily but hey, nothing's perfect. Brilliant job, Calista.

Olivia and the King

Again, Author Calista Skye, has the most vivid and articulate way of description it makes you feel as if you are actually engaged in a battle with the Ethereals yourself. I LOVED this book and I have to say, I'm on a Calista Skye binge at the moment! Why stop now? This story had romance, intrigue and space battles galore and a HEA worth smiling about.

Strange & wonderful.

This story is not unique, girl soldier meets alien barbarian. They fall in love, save the world & make babies. Ok, so maybe it is unique. The way these characters just come together so naturally is quite unique. I loved this story & cant wait to read more in this world view.

A fun adventure.

I was pulled in to this story and read it start to finish in one evening. There is a lot of suspense, action and romance. Dive in, the characters are strong and you will love their story.

The characters were strong and the story well written. The author gave plenty of detail of the whys and when’s. I’d like to read more about this setting.

An amazing story you won't want to miss!

Ator'aq and Olivia are an awesome couple and a powerful team. They will undoubtedly make a awesome King and Queen to their people and adding an unexpected baby should liven things up!

Not really sure how I feel about this book . It was weird. I do know I didn't like the alien always smirking. So iffy on the series.

A good ride

Not the usual smut-fest. A good story keeps you engaged and waiting for them the characters to give into desire. Definitely worth the read if you like Star Trek.

I think the two highlights and my comments are good examples of my rating. She really lost me once the ‘heroine’ left with the ‘hero’ right after battle. Saying more would constitute a spoiler.

Overall Rating: 4 Rockin’ ★★★★

As I read Given to the Alien, a science fiction romance by Calista Skye, I was pleasantly surprised with the overall plot and intricately complex world she created for the reader. We delved into a future world, where a space colony on the moon has been obliterated by the Ethereals. There is also a space station orbiting earth as its first defense against intruders. This is Olivia and Ator’aq’s out of this world journey to finding peace, happiness and of course, love!

Space Force Marine Olivia Cooper is sassy, resourceful and a soldier at heart. She knows what her objective is and doesn’t fluctuate in her actions. She is straight forward, honest and with a full-curvy body she knows men desire her. What she doesn’t expect is the instant lure of alien General Ator’aq. Her partner is being assaulted by a Braxian alien on her watch, so Olivia carefully calculates the steps needed to help and ends up catching the general’s eye.

General Ator’aq and his Braxian soldiers arrive in time to help defend Earth from the Ethereals but there is doubt from Earth’s government that the primitive weapons he uses will help them win. When he meets Olivia he is intrigued by her ingenuity and wants to know more about her.

I recommend that you become ensnared in the sci-fi world Ms. Skye’s imagination has created. You will not want to stop reading her story until finish every word.

Enjoyable Military Sci-fi Romance

I loved the descriptions, the world building, the action, emotions, all the confidence of the characters and the devilish devious Ator'aq. I loved the fact that the heroine (Olivia) was not the helpless little human girl. One may not be perfect; but still has to depend on themselves and be always ready for any circumstance.

The Ethereals are a different type of bad guys. The way they are described intrigued me. Beautiful, yet voracious human abductors. I was curious about the A.I. Curious as if it'll have its own story. Liked how the AI made predictions based on statistics and current events. Well, that's the impression I got.

This was more of a military sci-fi romance than a sex novel. I found the sex scenes passionate. Well, that thing of staring into each other's eyes was pure cheese to me. Reason why I was looking forward to reading this novel was based on the poor reviews. It was as I expected: a novel nicely written and not solely based on the sex. Loved the sci-fi aspect of it.

I had read the first book, "Fire Planet Warrior's Captive". Continued with "Given to the Alien", and in few minutes I'll be moving onto "Alien Invader's Baby" which is the third book.

Good

I was pleasantly surprised by "Given to the Alien." I was expecting the simple (and common) alien erotica often found on KU, but if you take out the romance, you'd get a pretty decent sci-fi of Star-Trek quality. I liked it. I will even go as far as saying I enjoyed it.

You get hot barbarian highlander aliens coming to the rescue of Earth from the fairy-like Eatherals who feast on live victims. I guess you could say they are cannibalistic beings beast on the destruction of all life but their own, which is a psychotic because if they destroy their food source..... well, you can see where I'm going with that.

Anyway, it's a good read, not too much sex, though it is a touch crass, but not OVERLY so.

I really liked this. I thought it was greatly written and told for it being a stand alone book. This is the first book I've read by Calista Skye, and I didn't find a problem with it. The sister was annoying, really annoying. She was the one character that I felt like was forced to be in the story, loved Devon. Gar'ox was hilarious. This one was focused more on the relationship of the characters which was nice. I liked them, I wasn't annoyed by them except for the sister. I could have done without her.

First time I've read anything from this author, pleasantly surprised :)

No spoilers, but I hope this is going to be a new series. I would love to know more about the swords, and the AI and why it wanted to be released after the battle. Enjoyed this well written book, especially because no cliff hangers. Characters well written, good plot. Once I started reading, I couldn't stop until I finished. Can't wait for more from this author

Enjoyed this one!

I was impressed by this book because it didn't seem too appealing initially. It took me a while to warm up to some of the characters but it was well worth it. I eventually became very engrossed and couldn't wait to find out what happened next. The plot was interesting and the antagonists were easy to hate. The romance was decent but the plot was what really won me over. I would recommend this book.

Really good

I like this genre but am frequently disappointed in the quality of writing I see. Not so with this one. This one is a jewel. It has strong, well developed H & h, good supporting characters and nice world building. All of this goodness is wrapped around an interesting story with a little hot romance. Keep me reading straight through till the last page. Gonna keep my eye on this author.
